BAREILLY: Shailendra Gangwar, the owner of Bareilly Cafe in Uttar Pradesh, says his business has virtually come to a halt after a group of right-wing activists allegedly barged into a private birthday celebration at his establishment, assaulted guests and raised slogans accusing those present of “love jihad”.“Since that incident, I have had no business. People are afraid to come to my cafe,” Gangwar told TOI, adding that the disruption has left him facing financial losses and reputational damage.

The incident took place on Saturday evening when a 20-year-old first-year nursing student was celebrating her birthday at the cafe with a small group of friends. According to police and victim accounts, around 25 men, including a self-proclaimed cow vigilante, entered the cafe without permission, objected to the presence of two Muslim students at the gathering and began attacking some of the male guests.Videos widely shared on social media show men assaulting those present inside the cafe, while slogans are heard in the background. One of the guests sustained fractures during the attack, the student said.“The allegations of ‘love jihad’ are completely baseless,” the nursing student, who is from neighbouring Budaun district and stays in a hostel in Bareilly, said. “They gate-crashed our private party and started beating my friends.”Initially, police fined the two Muslim students and a cafe staff member for alleged “breach of peace”, drawing criticism online. Following public outrage on social media, the police registered a case against those accused of carrying out the assault.Bareilly city superintendent of police Manush Pareek said officers had identified several individuals seen attacking people inside the cafe. An FIR has been registered under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including house trespass, voluntarily causing hurt, criminal intimidation and rioting.

Between April and August, the vessel underwent refitting at a shipyard in Longhai. The ship has been docked at the Shanghai shipyard since August 2025, where the final stage of the container ship’s transformation into an arsenal ship is believed to have taken place.At present, the Zhongda 79 still retains its civilian status as it hasn’t been listed as a part of the auxiliary fleet by the PLAN.

“What ultimately ended this marriage was the involvement of a third party, whose intention was to marry my husband,” she added, describing it as the final blow to an already fragile relationship.

Sannia also claimed to possess “documentary evidence” supporting her accusations, while alleging she has faced threats aimed at keeping her silent. She stated that she is prepared to pursue legal action if necessary.

NEW DELHI: The ICC on Monday rated the pitch used for the fourth Ashes Test between Australia and England at the Melbourne Cricket Ground as unsatisfactory, handing the venue one demerit point after match referee Jeff Crowe ruled that it was “too much in favour of the bowlers”.The Test, which England won by four wickets, was completed inside two days, with as many as 20 wickets falling on the opening day alone.

“The pitch at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, the venue for the fourth Ashes Test, has been deemed ‘Unsatisfactory’ with the venue handed one demerit point under the ICC Pitch and Outfield Monitoring Process,” the ICC said in a statement.Under ICC regulations, accumulation of six demerit points can result in a venue being banned from hosting international matches for a period of 12 months.Explaining his assessment, Crowe highlighted the excessive assistance provided to bowlers throughout the match.“The MCG pitch was too much in favour of the bowlers. With 20 wickets falling on the first day, 16 on the second day and no batter even reaching a half-century, the pitch was ‘Unsatisfactory’ as per the guidelines and the venue gets one demerit point,” he stated.The surface came in for strong criticism from several quarters, with England captain Ben Stokes saying it was not great for the game, while Cricket Australia termed it bad for business.In total, 36 wickets fell across just 142 overs, with no batter managing to score a half-century in the match.Despite England registering their first Test win in Australia since 2011, Australia had already retained the Ashes after winning the first three Tests to secure an unassailable 3–0 lead in the series.The fifth and final Test will be played in Sydney, starting January 4.

Instead, there’s a growing trend towards homes in the Rs 2-3 crore range, while affordable housing supply continues to shrink.“Banks are not inherently set up to cater to the micro-level assessment required for affordable housing. They are expected to enter via co-lending partnerships rather than direct exposure,” the after-conference report stated. Housing Finance Companies would have to expand their presence in Tier 3 and 4 cities to remain competitive.Meanwhile, as public sector banks and large banks dominated the salaried customer market with pre-approved offers, experts quoted by ANI, suggested focusing on proprietorship and partnership firms. They noted that while salaried cash flows are predictable but offer lower yields, non-salaried cash flows are more complex to assess but provide higher yields and face less competition from traditional banks.“By targeting these premium customers, the company avoids putting in more efforts to disburse individual loans,” the report added, explaining how lenders are adapting to the changing market landscape.

The Ajit Pawar-led NCP has announced that it will contest the Pimpri-Chinchwad and Pune local body elections together with the NCP (Sharad Pawar faction).Announcing the tie-up, Maharashtra deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar said the alliance is restricted to the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) elections, stressing that it is a local arrangement.“For the sake of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation elections, the ‘clock’ and the ‘tutari’ (trumpet) have united. The parivar has come together,” deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar said while announcing the alliance.“We are the ones who work for development. We will edge out those who tried to put this municipal corporation in debt,” he added.Claiming the upcoming polls to be the “fight of the workers”, NCP(SP) MLA Rohit Pawar said that the decision was taken listening to the views of party workers.“After speaking with all the party workers, Supriya Sule herself also interacted with the workers from Pune. Subsequently, discussions were held with workers from Pimpri-Chinchwad. This is a fight of the workers and their election. Therefore, after listening to their views and understanding their concerns, it was decided that both NCP factions will contest the polls together in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad. On the Multi Commodity Exchange (MCX), silver futures for March delivery surged by Rs 14,387, or 6%, to touch a lifetime high of Rs 2,54,174 per kilogram. However, just within an hour of hitting the record, the white metal dropped to an intraday low of Rs 2,33,120 per kg as investors rushed to lock in gains.Silver has seen sustained buying interest, mirroring firm trends in international markets. Over the past week alone, silver prices have jumped by Rs 31,348, marking a gain of 15.04 per cent on the commodities bourse. The white metal has also delivered exceptional returns so far this calendar year. Gold prices, meanwhile, remained close to record levels in the domestic futures market. On the MCX, gold futures for February delivery edged up by Rs 357, or 0.26 per cent, to trade at Rs 1,40,230 per 10 grams. The yellow metal had touched an all-time high of Rs 1,40,465 per 10 grams on Friday. In overseas markets, gold futures opened higher but later gave up early gains, slipping to $4,536.80 per ounce.
