WATCH: Dewald Brevis leaves Virat Kohli shell-shocked with a stunning catch to dismiss Ruturaj Gaikwad – IND vs SA,1st ODI

South Africa’s young sensation Dewald Brevis grabbed headlines in the ODI series opener against India in Ranchi on Sunday with a breathtaking one-handed catch.

Dewald Brevis stuns Ranchi crowd with unreal one-handed catch to dismiss Ruturaj Gaikwad

Fielding at point in the 23rd over, the 22-year-old leaped full-stretch to his right to dismiss Ruturaj Gaikwad for 8 off 14 balls, producing a Jonty Rhodes-esque piece of brilliance that left the entire JSCA Stadium gasping.

The dismissal came off seamer Ottniel Baartman, who induced a chipped drive from Gaikwad – promoted to No. 4 after opening batter Rohit Sharma’s gritty 57. The ball seemed destined to race past point when Brevis launched into an acrobatic dive, extending his right arm horizontally to snatch it cleanly mid-air.

Here’s the video:

The moment was made even more dramatic by Virat Kohli’s reaction, as the India star stood at the non-striker’s end with wide eyes and a stunned smile, applauding the catch instantly.

Replays showed Brevis completing the catch without the ball brushing the turf, tumbling safely inside the rope as the South Africans erupted in celebration. Kohli shook his head in disbelief – a rare display of awe from one of the game’s greats – before acknowledging the brilliance with applause.

The wicket arrived at a critical juncture. India had built momentum through a century stand between Rohit and Kohli, recovering from early pressure to reach 150/2. But Gaikwad’s departure triggered a mini-slide, as India soon slipped to 214/4, allowing South Africa to claw back control on a Ranchi pitch offering occasional seam movement.

Fans compare Brevis to Jony Rhodes and AB de Villiers after viral catch

It did not take long for Brevis’ effort to explode across social media, with fans dubbing it “a bird or a plane?” for the sheer aerial execution. Comparisons poured in, from Jonty Rhodes’ legendary point-fielding to AB de Villiers’ gravity-defying dives, elevating the moment to one of the most memorable catches in recent matches.

Robots are scaring Chinese government, and the ‘reason’ is these 150-plus companies

Robots are scaring Chinese government, and the 'reason' is these 150-plus companies

Chinese government has a new ‘scare’ and it is the country’s humanoid robotics industry. China’s burgeoning humanoid robotics sector, recently anointed a key economic catalyst by the Communist Party, is said to be attracting such an intense wave of investment that it is beginning to make Beijing uneasy. According to a report in Bloomberg, China’s powerful economic-planning agency has warned of the risks of a bubble forming in the country’s humanoid robotics industry, issuing a rare official expression of concern about a pivotal sphere of technology. The warning comes from China’s National Development and Reform Commission, which sets economic strategy and shifts in policy. The agency has called attention to the proliferation of remarkably similar robots from more than 150 companies in the same field. Agency spokeswoman Li Chao told Bloomberg that it is important for the country to prevent this flood of humanoid robots from overwhelming the market and squeezing out real research and development initiatives. “Frontier industries have long grappled with the challenge of balancing the speed of growth against the risk of bubbles — an issue now confronting the humanoid robot sector as well,” Li added. The Chinese government’s call for increased vigilance reflects growing anxiety over potential over-investment, an issue that has plagued past Chinese tech booms like bike-sharing and semiconductors, often resulting in market shakeups and consolidation. The development and funding frenzy has skyrocketed following Unitree Robotics’ viral performance during the Spring Festival Gala earlier this year, where its dancing droids captivated a nationwide audience. This surge in interest aligns with the ruling Communist Party’s new guidelines, which designated the humanoid robotics industry as one of six critical new economic growth drivers for China’s development plan through 2030.Investor enthusiasm is palpable. The Bloomberg report notes that the Solactive China Humanoid Robotics Index—which tracks the shares of robot-related companies—is up nearly 30% this year. Industry leader UBTech Robotics Corp., a potential beneficiary of any market consolidation, saw its shares gain more than 4% on Friday. Citigroup Inc. has projected the market could swell to $7 trillion by 2050, though widespread adoption of these robots in homes and factories is still considered years away. In 2023, China reportedly installed over 290,000 industrial robots, more than the rest of the world combined, with robot density reaching 470 robots per 10,000 workers, surpassing Japan and Germany for the first time. The sector’s profile has been further elevated by key government endorsements. Unitree founder Wang Xingxing secured a front-row seat at a seminal meeting in February with President Xi Jinping and other prominent tech leaders, including Jack Ma. Since then, droids from fast-growing startups such as AgiBot and Galbot have become social media sensations, showcasing capabilities like running marathons, kickboxing, and making coffee. The government’s plan, according to the official, is two-fold: accelerating research and development of core technologies while simultaneously supporting the construction of essential training and testing infrastructure. Furthermore, Beijing intends to “promote the consolidation and sharing of technology and industrial resources in the sector across the nation,” in a bid to hasten the real-world application of humanoid robots.

IND vs SA: Fans go gaga after Virat Kohli silences critics as he lights up Ranchi with his 52nd ODI hundred

It was the kind of evening Ranchi had been waiting for, a full stadium a high-stakes ODI, and Virat Kohli walking out early with India under mild pressure. The 37-year-old stepped in during the fourth over after Yashasvi Jaiswal’s early departure, immediately taking charge with a crisp boundary to third man. His bat flowed with the ease of old, stitching a commanding 136-run stand with Rohit Sharma that steadied India’s innings beautifully.

Ranchi roared every time he unfurled his signature straight drives, leaning cover drives, and perfectly timed punches through the gaps. The landmark moment arrived when Kohli smashed Marco Jansen for the boundary to bring up a century that oozed authority. By the time he reached his 52nd ODI century, Kohli had not only entertained the crowd, he had reminded the world that the ‘Run Machine’ is still built for long, relentless innings.

IND vs SA: Virat Kohli shuts down criticism as he lights up Ranchi with a record extending 52nd hundred

Kohli’s latest hundred wasn’t just another addition to his glowing record, it was a defining chapter in an already monumental career.
His 52nd ODI century extended his lead as the only batter in history to cross the 50-century barrier in the format, underlining an era of unmatched consistency. This knock also marked his sixth ODI ton against South Africa, placing him level with Quinton de Kock and AB de Villiers for the most centuries in India–SA ODIs.

Earlier in the match, with just his 32nd run, Kohli surpassed Jacques Kallis to become the second-highest run-scorer in India-South Africa ODI history. The achievement gains even more weight considering Kallis’ staggering average of over 61 against India, a benchmark Kohli coolly stepped past. Only Sachin Tendulkar now sits above him in these contests, with 2,001 runs, setting up a chase Kohli could very well challenge with his current rhythm. This Ranchi century also pushed Kohli to 83 international centuries overall, the second-most in world cricket. With 30 Test hundreds, a T20I ton, and his unparalleled ODI dominance, Kohli continues to redefine longevity and excellence in the modern game.

The innings also showcased his unmatched ability to read bowlers early and adapt instantly, a skill that has kept him ahead for more than a decade. The celebration, a quiet raise of the bat, eyes lifted to the sky, summed up a man fully aware of his place in cricket history.
For India, this knock wasn’t just runs on the board; it was reassurance that their greatest chaser and most complete ODI batter remains at his absolute best. And for the cricketing world, it was yet another reminder that when Kohli decides to take control, only the record books can keep up.

India’s complete control in Ranchi built around Kohli’s masterclass against South Africa

India’s innings began with early urgency as Yashasvi Jaiswal struck a few crisp boundaries, but his dismissal in the fourth over brought Virat Kohli to the crease far earlier than ideal. What followed was a defining shift in momentum. Kohli immediately signaled intent with a fluent third-man boundary, settling into a beautifully balanced mix of strike rotation and signature shot-making. Rohit matched him stroke for stroke, ensuring that India capitalized on the fielding restrictions as the pair added 136 runs off just 82 balls, completely flattening South Africa’s early plans. Rohit’s half-century freed Kohli to play the long, commanding role, and even after Rohit fell for 57, the innings retained its flow due to Kohli’s unbroken rhythm.

Ruturaj Gaikwad and Washington Sundar fell in quick successions, suggesting a potential slowdown, but Kohli absorbed pressure with his unmatched ODI composure. He reached his fifty with a towering maximum off Corbin Bosch and managed the innings like a seasoned architect, maneuvering spin, neutralizing pace, and ensuring the run rate remained intact. His hundred, completed off 102 balls, reflected both control and acceleration, with 11 boundaries and 7 sixes highlighting his perfect balance of precision and aggression. KL Rahul supported him calmly, contributing to a steady finishing phase that took India to 349/8 in 50 overs.

Mumbai: Over 1 lakh animal lovers from Mumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, and other cities and towns across India simultaneously sent speed post letters to the Supreme Court in an urgent, coordinated appeal to save the stray dogs from “cruel and unscientific relocations” to shelters. The signed letters sent to the apex court on Saturday morning from GPOs and various post offices contained a copy of a draft appeal prepared by a group of animal activists urging the judges to revert the Nov 7 order to relocate stray dogs to shelters, since there side of interventionists has not been heard yet, and also it is unscientific and cruel to send healthy, vaccinated dogs to caged shelters. “We are thankful to the over 1 lakh citizens who ensured that they reach their respective GPOs from Anantnag in J&K to Kanyakumari in the south of India to send this urgent appeal to the SC to save our stray dogs. We will continue to legally fight for the street dogs in our democratic set-up for animal welfare,” said Ambika Shukla of People for Animals (PFA).From Mumbai, celebrities such as actor and entertainer Cyrus Broacha also sent a speed post to SC. The animal rights activists reiterated that healthy, vaccinated and sterilized dogs should be allowed to freely live in their areas, and not confined in shelters — also there aren’t enough shelters to put all the stray dogs in. Hence it can lead to diseases and deaths for stray dogs in they are cruelly relocated. On Saturday evening, over 300 animal feeders and activists of Pasujeeva – The Soulful Love Foundation, held a peaceful demonstration at Versova in suburban Mumbai on the stray dogs issue, while stressing that proper sterilization, vaccination and care is the only humane way to control canine numbers and keep them healthy.Earlier, the students and teachers of IIT-Bombay campus at Powai campus had started an e-drive to urge the authorities that they want to co-exist with the dogs, and not send them to any obscure or non-existent shelter. The Marmik Animal Welfare Foundation founder, Manasi Dikshit, who also sent a letter to the SC, said: “There are no proper animal shelters for dogs within BMC area, so where will the authorities take all our street dogs? It is impractical to relocate them.
