Former Pakistan captain Rashid Latif has softened his earlier stance on calling for a boycott of the upcoming T20 World Cup, admitting that the moment for such a move has passed. While ruling out a full withdrawal, the former wicketkeeper-batsman floated a different form of protest, suggesting Pakistan could take part in the tournament but decline to play fixtures against India. He stressed, however, that any such call would have to come from the Pakistani government rather than the cricket board. “If the government says we won’t play against India, the ICC will have to accept it,” Latif said. “If they don’t, that’s where the real confrontation begins.” Asked what would happen if India and Pakistan met in the final, Latif replied, “nahi khelenge’ (we won’t play)”.

Latif, who had earlier urged Pakistan to boycott the World Cup to challenge what he described as India’s influence over global cricket administration, said on Wednesday that the opportunity slipped away when the Pakistan Cricket Board did not act immediately after Bangladesh were excluded from the event. “The time for a strike has passed,” Latif said on the YouTube channel CaughtBehind. “Every decision has a timing. When the iron is hot, that’s when you strike. That time was last week during the ICC meeting.” Bangladesh were replaced by Scotland after 14 votes went against their participation, with the ICC citing logistical and contractual issues. Pakistan backed Bangladesh in the vote but eventually went along with the final decision. “We showed our support. We voted for them. That chapter is over,” Latif said. “If we boycott now, it won’t have the same impact.” Pakistan chairman Mohsin Naqvi had hinted earlier this week that the board could consider a principled stand similar to Bangladesh’s, but no formal announcement followed. The T20 World Cup will go ahead with Pakistan participating under a hybrid model, with matches involving India scheduled at neutral venues until 2027.

Brent tops $71/barrel, approaches Aug high

London: Brent oil futures prices jumped on Thursday, hitting a near six-month high on rising concerns about a possible US military attack on Iran, Opec‘s fourth-largest producer with output of 3.2 million barrels per day.“The immediate concern … is the collateral damage done if Iran takes a swing at its neighbours or possibly even more tellingly, it closes the Strait of Hormuz to the 20 million barrels per day of oil that navigates it,” said PVM analyst John Evans.Brent crude futures were up $2.6, or 3.8%, to $71 a barrel, reaching its highest level since Aug 1. Rupee nears 92/$, RBI helps cap fall

Rupee nears 92/$, RBI helps cap fall

Mumbai: The rupee ended Thursday at 91.96 to the dollar, down 18 paise from its previous close of 91.78, after slipping to a record low near the 92 level before recovering marginally on dollar sales by public sector banks on behalf of RBI. The dollar index edged up about 0.12% to around 96.27, adding to pressure on the local currency amid strong dollar demand linked to derivative maturities and corporate hedging.Traders said RBI intervention in the foreign exchange market helped cap losses beyond the psychologically important 92 mark. However, the rupee’s weakness spilled over into the govt bond market, where RBI had undertaken measures to infuse liquidity to keep yields down. However, dollar sales by RBI ended up draining some of the liquidity. Expectations of further depreciation also weighed on the interest rate swap market, pushing short-term swap rates higher despite relatively benign domestic macro indicators.According to Jateen Trivedi of LKP Securities, rupee traded flat to weak as markets remained cautious ahead of the Union Budget on Feb 1. He said elevated bullion prices increased the import bill, and continued FII selling in equities has added pressure.

Top 5 players to successfully defend lowest runs in final over of WPL matches ft. Sophie Devine

In the high-octane world of the Women’s Premier League (WPL), the final six deliveries often transform from a mere formality into a psychological battlefield. While T20 cricket is increasingly dominated by explosive power-hitters, the league has witnessed a handful of bowlers who have mastered the art of the death-over choke.

Defending a double-digit score is a challenge, but successfully guarding a single-digit target requires nerves of steel and tactical genius. From the inaugural seasons to the high-stakes thrillers of 2026, certain players have etched their names in WPL history by pulling off the unthinkable.

Top 5 final over defenses in WPL

  1. Sophie Devine (GG) vs DC – 6 Runs (2026)

In what is widely regarded as the most clinical display of death bowling in WPL history, Sophie Devine defended a meager 6 runs against the Delhi Capitals at the DY Patil Stadium in January 2026. After smashing a brilliant 95 with the bat, Devine took the ball with DC needing just a run-a-ball. Displaying veteran composure, she utilized deceptive slower balls to dismiss a set Laura Wolvaardt and Jemimah Rodrigues, conceding only two runs and sealing a 4-run victory for the Gujarat Giants.

Proving that her previous heroics were no fluke, Devine repeated the feat just 16 days later in Vadodara. This time, she had 8 runs to play with. Facing a surging partnership between Niki Prasad and Sneh Rana, Devine leaned on her experience to dry up the boundaries. She trapped Rana LBW and forced a desperate Prasad into a mishit on the final ball, successfully defending the total and securing a 3-run win.

  1. Grace Harris (UPW) vs DC – 9 Runs (2024)

The Arun Jaitley Stadium witnessed pure chaos in 2024 when Grace Harris was tasked with defending 9 runs. The over started disastrously as Radha Yadav smashed a six on the first ball, leaving DC needing just 3 runs from 5 balls. However, Harris, who hadn’t bowled a single over earlier in the match, orchestrated a miracle. She claimed two wickets and initiated a run-out in the next four balls, sensationally winning the game for UP Warriorz by a single run.

  1. Sophie Molineux (RCB) vs UPW – 10 Runs (2024)

During RCB’s opening game of the 2024 season in Bengaluru, the pressure was immense. Sophie Molineux stepped up to defend 10 runs against the dangerous Deepti Sharma. Despite Deepti finding the boundary on the fifth ball to keep the game alive, Molineux’s ability to cram the batter for space on the final delivery ensured RCB escaped with a 2-run win, setting the tone for their eventual championship run.

  1. Asha Sobhana (RCB) vs MI – 11 Runs (2024)

In the 2024 Eliminator, uncapped veteran Asha Sobhana faced the ultimate test: defending 11 runs against the defending champions, Mumbai Indians. Bowling her flighted leg-spin against Amelia Kerr and Pooja Vastrakar, Sobhana showed remarkable temperament. She conceded only six runs and dismissed Vastrakar, unleashing her iconic “Cristiano Ronaldo” celebration as RCB marched into their first-ever final.

Errors detected: NHAI refunds toll in 18L cases | India News

Errors detected: NHAI refunds toll in 18L cases
In 35% Of Cases, Toll Debited Sans Vehicles At Plaza

New Delhi: NHAI has refunded toll charges in 17.7 lakh cases between Jan and Dec 2025 for incorrect deductions and in nearly 35% of these cases, the vehicles were not at the toll plaza when the user fee was debited from FASTag wallet.Considering that such transactions happen due to manual entry of vehicle details by toll operators because of some issue, the road transport ministry is mulling doing away with this option completely. In a written reply, Union road transport minister Nitin Gadkari informed the Lok Sabha Thursday that National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI), which provides the Central Clearing House (CCH) services of electronic toll collection, “has reported 17.6 lakh transactions where refunds were made due to incorrect user fee (toll) deductions from Jan-2025 to Dec-2025 out of a total of 464 crore FASTag transactions”. This is barely 0.03% of all FASTag transactions. An official said, “Though the number of faulty transactions is miniscule, this shouldn’t happen. A decision will be likely taken soon on stopping the practice of manually feeding vehicle registration numbers in the system to deduct toll. In such cases, there is a possibility of the toll attendants noting down wrong details. This becomes an unnecessary hassle for commuters.”The ministry said that with the implementation of FASTag, the average time taken to cross toll plaza has reduced to 40 seconds compared with the earlier 12.2 minutes per vehicle under the manual tolling system. In a separate written reply to a question on the total toll collection, the road transport ministry said in the past three quarters of the financial year 2025-26, Rs 50,195 crore was collected as user fee across the national highway and expressway network. During the entire last financial year, Rs 61,508 crore was collected as toll, the ministry further said.
