Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel is closely monitoring escalating unrest in Iran and that he wishes peace and prosperity for the people of Iran. Describing the ongoing situation as “yoke of tyranny”, he said that Israel and the world respect the courage of protestors.In a video released by his office of the weekly cabinet meeting, Netanyahu said, “We all hope that the Persian nation will soon be freed from the yoke of tyranny, and when that day comes, Israel and Iran will once again be loyal partners in building a future of prosperity and peace for both peoples.”“Israel is closely monitoring events in Iran,” he further added, “The people of Israel and the entire world are in awe of the tremendous courage of Iran’s citizens.”

Foreign Minister Gideon Saar also echoes the Israeli PM’s statement in a video he later shared on X. He said, “We also see the people of Iran. And frankly, we wish them much success. We support their struggle for freedom. We think they deserve freedom, we think they deserve a better future.”He further went on to express that Israel has had a “huge problem” with the Iranian regime and accused Iran of being an exporter of terrorism and radicalism.“We don’t have any hostility with the people of Iran. We have a huge problem, which is not only our problem, it’s a regional and international problem with the Iranian regime, which is the number one exporter of terrorism, radicalism. We have just heard what the Americans had described about their deed in Venezuela. VARANASI: Senior Congress leader and MP Jairam Ramesh on Sunday condemned the police’s brutal lathi charge on NSUI’s “Save MGNREGA” protest in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s constituency Varanasi. In a post in X, Ramesh criticised the BJP government, calling it “trouble-engine government” rattled by peaceful, democratic protests.

Ramesh wrote, “In Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s parliamentary constituency of Banaras, students, under the leadership of NSUI’s national president and my young colleague Varun Chaudhary, took out a ‘Save MGNREGA’ campaign march. This was a completely peaceful and democratic demonstration carried out under constitutional rights, but the Yogi-Modi trouble-engine government is so rattled by questions that it unleashed a brutal lathi charge through the police.“The post was accompanied by a video purportedly showing police personnel manhandling National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) national president Varun Choudhary during the march.The allegations came amid Congress’s ongoing nationwide protests against the enactment of the Viksit Bharat-Guarantee for Rozgar and Ajeevika Mission (Gramin) Act (VB-G RAM G Act), which replaces the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA).Earlier in the day, Congress workers staged a protest under the banner ‘MGNREGA Bachao Sangram’ at Townhall Park in Varanasi. Uttar Pradesh Congress president Ajay Rai, along with party workers, held a symbolic fast near the statues of Mahatma Gandhi and Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar.Speaking to ANI, Rai said, “We are on a fast. Mumbai: A man died after he was knocked down by a speeding dumper in Mulund (W) on Saturday, police said. The incident occurred at 1 pm in a busy lane at Mulund Colony when Suresh Rajput (37) was crossing the road. Police arrested the dumper driver, Brijesh Yadav (26), who fled after abandoning the vehicle, fearing mob fury.“Yadav was arrested later after he fled away from the spot. He has been booked under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections for causing death due to negligence, rash driving, and under the Motor Vehicles Act. He was not drunk at the time of incident and was later released on bail as it is a bailable offence,” said a police officer of the Mulund police station.Rajput died about three hours after he met his elder brother Vijay (50), before leaving in search of work. Vijay, employed as a bodyguard, told TOI, “The incident has shaken our bedridden mother (68). My brother does whatever job he gets. I was at my workplace when I received a call from my friend alerting that my brother has met with an accident. I rushed to the hospital only to learn that he died before admission at the hospital.”BJP MLA Mihir Kotecha demanded the suspension of BMC deputy chief engineer Navnath Gadge, holding him responsible for the incident. Kotecha claimed Rajput was killed on the spot and said it was the third such incident in the past few months. He said he raised the issue in the Legislative Assembly and the govt issued directions, but they were not followed.“Ghadge is responsible for the incident, for repeated accidents involving dumpers in the area. Earlier incidents include a dumper overturning in the first week of Dec and the death of a girl in Amar Nagar, Mulund, four months ago after being hit by a dumper,” said Kotecha.Kotecha further said he earlier raised the issue, warning against the movement of overloaded dumpers through densely populated residential areas of Mulund. “There is an alternative route available, but instead of developing it, 300 to 400 dumpers pass through Mulund Colony every day, posing a serious risk to residents. The govt had directed that dumper movement should not be allowed through this stretch and that work should begin only after an alternative road was developed,” he said.
