MUMBAI: Nearly a week after two bullets were fired at two separate flats of an Andheri-based housing society, Oshiwara Police arrested actor Kamaal R Khan in the case on Saturday. Police recovered a German-made pistol and 21 rounds from the actor’s bungalow in Versova.The motive is still being probed. Police said Khan was checking the pistol believing that one round was left behind in it. However, Khan’s lawyer, Nagesh Mishra, told mediapersons that the actor has not made any admission before the police.

The bullets were found inside the apartments of writer Neeraj Mishra and model Prateek Baid on the second and fourth floor of Nalanda society in Lokhandwala on Jan 18. Impact marks were found on a plywood cabinet and walls. Nobody was injured. After the police were informed, they studied CCTV footage but nobody was found entering or leaving the society. The guard said he hadn’t heard sounds of gunfire. Police then took the help of forensic experts to find out what type of firearm did the bullets belong to. They then found out the firing range of such a weapon and checked which of the residents from the area had registered similar weapons. The police team, supervised by additional commissioner Paramjeet Dahiya and DCP Dikshitkumar Gedam, and comprising senior inspector Sanjay Chavan and inspector Sachin Patil, took Khan into custody after confirming that the bullets came from his 7.65 mm Mauser. Police said Khan has a prior crime record. Around 1pm on Saturday, Khan was produced before a magistrate court in Bandra and remanded to police custody till Jan 27. Adv Mishra argued that Khan had no intention of firing. “The actor is not acquainted with either of the people (in whose houses the bullets were found). He has a licensed pistol that he has kept at home for self-defence,” said advocate Mishra. The lawyer added that the range of a pistol is 20 metres but the bullets were found 400 metres away. Between Khan’s bungalow and Nalanda society, there are mangroves, roads and an under-construction structure. Advocate Mishra has also claimed that the actor was not served a notice as required under Bhartiya Nagrik Suraksha Sanhita, nor were the grounds of arrest disclosed to him.

Sohail Khan and Seema Jajdeh got married in 1998 and the duo left everyone shocked as they announced divorce in 2022. They have two children, Nirvaan and Yohaan. As we grew older, we grew in different directions. Our thoughts changed. Eventually, we realised we were better friends than husband and wife. It was better to separate than to fight every day. We didn’t want to spoil the environment at home. Khit-pit se acha hai we separated. We separated amicably, but only as husband and wife. Till date, we are a family. He is the father of my children, and that can never change.”Further revealing how she went into depression after divorce, Seema said, “No woman fantasises about or manifests divorce. I did go into depression. And my kids must have too. It took us several years to reach this conclusion. We were waiting for the right time, especially for our children.” She further added how Salman and the entire family stood by her and their decision. Seema shared, “Not just Salman Khan, the entire family was extremely supportive. In fact, Salman once told me, ‘You guys may separate or not, but you will always remain the mother of these kids.’ That stayed with me.”She further added, “The family has stood by me in so many moments. Even when Sohail and I used to fight, they often took my side. They still help me with the kids. Yohan is a teenager now, and if I ever need help dealing with him, I can go to Sohail’s sister or brother without any hesitation. They are always there. I may be divorced, but my children are half Khan and half Sajdeh – so through them, this will always be my family.”Seema revealed that when she married into their family, it was like a Sooraj Barjatya family. “When I married into this family, I genuinely felt like I had walked onto the set of Hum Saath Saath Hain. They are always together. They never made me feel unwelcome. I recently ran into Sohail’s mother, I still call her my mother-in-law, and she told me, ‘Why don’t you come and visit us? It’s been so long. Please keep coming’,” she said. Meanwhile, she went through a tough time even after divorce as she was just not used to handling things by herself. “I was scared of being lonely. I didn’t know anything about mobile bills, banking or finances. Earlier, my father handled these things and after marriage, Sohail did. Suddenly, I had to learn about life insurance, medical insurance, everything. As a single woman, I now have to focus more on my business, pay my own bills and take care of my kids. Divorce taught me time management as we both get equal time with our kids,” she said, further recalling an incident, “I fell in London and had to undergo surgery. That’s when I realised people claim medical insurance in these situations. Every day is a learning experience for a single woman.”Talking about not having any bad blood with Sohail, she concluded, “There was a time when I was angry at Sohail and he was angry at me. But at the end of the day, I have spent 25 years of my life with him. We have children together. He will always be the father and I will always be the mother. That connects you for life. A relationship involves two people. Both are responsible for making it work, or not. We never took this decision lightly. We largely took it keeping our children in mind. We were kids when we got married, and it wasn’t anyone’s fault.”

Former Bangladesh Cricket Board general secretary Suyed Ashraful Haque has criticised the decision taken by the Bangladesh government and the BCB to pull out of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, calling it an unnecessary and damaging move. Speaking to ANI on Saturday, Haque said it was wrong to refuse participation in a global tournament over “security concerns” that, in his view, were linked to a Bangladeshi player being dropped from an IPL side. He said Bangladesh “has overplayed its hand in this matter” and warned that such decisions hurt the progress of the country’s cricket.

Haque pointed out that the ICC replacing Bangladesh with Scotland was a normal and expected outcome. He said that when a team chooses not to take part, the ICC follows a standard process to bring in a replacement. “It was not right for Bangladesh to withdraw from the T20 World Cup just because a Bangladeshi player was not allowed to play in the IPL in India,” Haque told ANI. He added that comparisons between the IPL and the World Cup were misplaced. According to him, the IPL is a domestic competition, while an ICC event comes with far stricter and more comprehensive security arrangements. Haque said the decision to stay away from the tournament undermines the effort and hard work put into building Bangladeshi cricket over the years. “Bangladesh has overplayed its hand in this matter by choosing not to participate in the ICC T20 World Cup,” he said. On the Bangladesh government’s demand to shift the team’s matches to Sri Lanka, Haque said such a move was unrealistic. He stressed that ICC tournaments are planned well in advance and cannot be relocated at short notice. “Therefore, it couldn’t be transferred to Sri Lanka,” he said. Earlier on Saturday, the International Cricket Council confirmed that Scotland will replace Bangladesh in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 after the BCB refused to participate as per the published schedule. The 20-team tournament is set to be played from February 7 to March 8. The ICC said the decision came after it rejected the BCB’s request to move Bangladesh’s matches out of India, citing the absence of any credible or verifiable security threat to the Bangladesh team. Following a meeting on Wednesday, the ICC Business Corporation Board asked the BCB to confirm within 24 hours whether the team would take part in the tournament as scheduled. When no confirmation was received within the deadline, the ICC moved ahead in line with its governance and qualification processes to identify a replacement side. In a release, the ICC said the decision followed an extensive process to address the concerns raised by the BCB about playing in India. “Over a period of more than three weeks, the ICC engaged with the BCB through multiple rounds of dialogue conducted in a transparent and constructive manner,” the statement said, adding that discussions took place both via video conference and in person. The ICC said it reviewed the concerns put forward by the BCB, commissioned independent security assessments from internal and external experts, and shared detailed security and operational plans. These included federal and state-level arrangements, along with enhanced and escalating security protocols for the event. The assurances were reiterated at several stages, including during meetings involving the IBC Board. “The ICC’s assessments concluded that there was no credible or verifiable security threat to the Bangladesh national team, officials or supporters in India,” the release said. The governing body said it decided against changing the schedule after considering the wider impact of such a move. “The ICC also noted the importance of preserving the integrity and sanctity of the tournament schedule, safeguarding the interests of all participating teams and fans, and avoiding the establishment of precedents that could undermine the neutrality and fairness of ICC events,” the statement said. Scotland, who now take Bangladesh’s place, are the highest-ranked T20I side that did not originally qualify for the tournament. They are currently ranked 14th in the world, ahead of Namibia, the United Arab Emirates, Nepal, the United States, Canada, Oman and Italy.

NEW DELHI: Preeti Unhale, 51, completed 25 years with a donor heart on Jan 23, 2026, becoming India’s longest-living heart transplant survivor – a landmark considering that heart transplants were rare, donor awareness was limited and long-term survival remained uncertain when she underwent the procedure.Originally from MP, Unhale came to AIIMS in 2000 after exhausting treatment options at home and in Mumbai. She was diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy – a condition in which the heart muscle becomes weak and enlarged, reducing its ability to pump blood effectively and leading to heart failure. She was told a heart transplant was her only chance. At AIIMS, she met cardiothoracic surgeon Dr P Venugopal and cardiologist Dr K K Talwar. “For the first time, I heard the words, ‘You will be fine’,” she recalled. She stayed in Delhi for treatment – and has since lived here.

Dr Talwar told TOI that Unhale had arrived in an extremely critical condition. “She had married barely two and a half years earlier and came to us with hope after being refused everywhere else,” he said. With little clinical guidance available at the time, doctors evaluated her extensively before a donor heart became available.

“For end-stage heart failure, transplantation is the definitive answer. Survival is around 85% at five years. She has completed 25,” he said. The transplant, performed in Jan 2001 by using the heart of a brain-dead teenage donor, happened at a time when outcomes were uncertain. “There was no guidance then. Success rates were low, and there were hardly any survivors to talk to. People discouraged us, saying transplants don’t last long. But there was no other option,” Unhale said. “If you want life – and a good quality of life – you take that risk.” Her husband, an Indian Forest Service officer, sought a transfer to Delhi so that the family could stay close to AIIMS. “Family support was critical,” she said. Life after transplant meant lifelong discipline. Unhale takes daily immunosuppressants and has faced multiple rejection episodes, including a major one in 2006-07 when she had to be rushed to AIIMS late at night. Over the years, she developed kidney problems, steroid-related bone damage, vascular necrosis and facial paralysis – each managed with sustained medical care. “This survival isn’t mine alone,” she said. “It belongs to doctors, nurses, technicians and even sanitation staff. It takes a system to save one life,” she said. Preeti Unhale has counselled heart transplant patients across India, helping bridge the information gap she once faced. Her message is unequivocal: “If doctors advise a transplant, there is no other option. Donors are rare – if you get one, say yes immediately. Live fully, but with discipline. We have been given a second chance.”

NEW DELHI: Bangladesh cricket faced another turbulent moment on Saturday as a senior Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) official resigned on the same day the team was officially removed from the 2026 T20 World Cup. Ishtiaque Sadeque, a BCB director and chairman of the Game Development Committee, stepped down hours after the ICC confirmed Scotland as Bangladesh’s replacement for the tournament.

Sadeque cited personal and family reasons for his resignation. He said he could no longer give enough time to a role that demands full commitment. His exit comes at a sensitive time, with Bangladesh cricket already under heavy criticism following the World Cup controversy.“It is true that I am resigning. I believe that I am unable to dedicate the time required for such a large community like Game Development, where I am currently serving, because of my family and personal commitments. I cannot provide the effort necessary to accelerate Game Development. For this reason, I feel a personal sense of regret that I am not doing justice to this position. That is why I am resigning from here,” Ishtiaque told Cricbuzz.Sadeque was elected as a BCB director from the Dhaka Clubs category in October last year. He secured the highest number of votes in his category, which made his sudden resignation even more surprising.
