Fire and smoke billow across sky: Video shows aftermath of US strike on Iran's Isfahan ammunition depot
Aftermath of reported US-Israeli strike

Videos circulating on social media appear to show the aftermath of a reported US or Israeli strike on a facility believed to house an Iranian missile base in Baharestan city, located in the Islamic Republic’s Isfahan province. The footages show massive plumes of smoke billowing into the sky, along with visible fireballs. It was not immediately clear whether these were fresh strikes or if the complex had been targeted during Tuesday evening’s attacks. On Tuesday, the United States and Israel struck steel complexes in central and southwestern Iran, causing damage to production units, according to Iranian media. “Initial assessments indicate massive attacks, with significant damage and destruction to production units” at the complex of Mobarakeh Steel Company—one of Iran’s largest—in the central province of Isfahan, the Fars news agency reported, citing a company statement. The statement added that the attacks also hit one of the company’s subsidiaries, Sefid Dasht Steel, located in the southwestern province of Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari. The facility “sustained damage and losses.” The Isfahan unit had also been targeted on Friday, along with Khuzestan Steel factories in southwestern Iran.Steel is a strategically vital material, essential for both industrial and military production, including the development of missiles, drones, and ships.Iran has been at war with the United States and Israel since February 28, when strikes killed the country’s then–Supreme Leader, Ali Khamenei, triggering a conflict that has since spread across the Middle East. He has been succeeded by his son, Mojtaba Khamenei. However, Mojtaba’s whereabouts remain unknown, and he is believed to be recovering from war-related injuries.(With AFP inputs)

Sanjiv Goenka–Rishabh Pant exchange goes viral after LSG loss, sparks fresh IPL storm
Sanjiv Goenka and Rishabh Pant (X)

Lucknow Super Giants found themselves under early pressure in IPL 2026 after a disappointing six-wicket defeat to Delhi Capitals at home, a result that not only exposed batting concerns but also sparked conversation off the field. LSG struggled to get going with the bat, folding for just 141 in their opening game. The top order failed to deliver, with captain Rishabh Pant scoring 7, Aiden Markram managing 11, and Nicholas Pooran contributing only 8. While the bowlers made early inroads, Delhi turned the chase around through a composed unbeaten 70 from Sameer Rizvi and a steady 39 not out from Tristan Stubbs, sealing the game with 2.5 overs to spare. However, it was what followed after the match that drew just as much attention. LSG owner Sanjiv Goenka was seen in an on-field conversation with Pant, with head coach Justin Langer also part of the discussion. While no audio was available, the visuals suggested an intense exchange, and the clip quickly gained traction across social media. The moment inevitably brought back memories of a similar incident involving Goenka and former LSG captain KL Rahul during the 2024 season. That episode, widely viewed as a public fallout after a defeat, had drawn criticism at the time, and comparisons resurfaced following the latest visuals. Despite the speculation, Goenka struck a measured tone in his public response. Taking to X after the game, he backed his side and urged patience.

“This is a long season, and moments like these are part of building something meaningful. I have full confidence in our captain and the team to respond with strength. To our fans, thank you for your support at Ekana today, we will come back stronger. The story of @LucknowIPL this season is far from written,” he wrote. On the tactical front, Pant’s decision to promote himself to the top of the order also became a talking point. Having largely operated in the middle order in recent seasons, the move did not pay off in the opener. Pant was run out for 7 at the non-striker’s end after Mukesh Kumar got a fingertip deflection onto a powerful straight drive from Mitchell Marsh. When asked if he would continue opening alongside Markram and Marsh, Pant kept his options open. “It’s a 50-50 call,” he said after the match. With questions emerging around team balance, batting roles, and the early loss, LSG now face a crucial phase as they look to settle into the season and respond strongly in the games ahead.

Sensex rallies 1,187 points on Middle East peace hopes

Sensex rallies 1,187 points on Middle East peace hopes

MUMBAI: Peace hopes in West Asia led to a global rally since late Tuesday that spilled over to the Indian market on Wednesday and boosted investor sentiment on Dalal Street. As a result, stocks rallied smartly with the sensex closing 1,187 points (1.7%) up at 73,134 points. The day’s rally in the stock market was also boosted by some strengthening of the rupee against the dollar while crude prices in global markets showed a softening trend. The day’s four-digit points gain in sensex came despite foreign funds continuing to take money out of Indian stocks. At close of trading, net outflow by foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) from equities was Rs 8,331 crore, BSE data showed. In comparison, domestic funds were net buyers at Rs 7,172 crore.Since Tuesday ( a trading holiday), there were indications that the US may step back from its aggressive stance in the war against Iran. This raised hopes among investors globally that the current geopolitical uncertainty, including one of the worst energy crises that the world has faced, could soon start to taper off. As a result, crude prices started coming down, while rupee, combined with RBI’s decisions to rein-in speculative trades, started strengthening. All these helped the day’s rally, market players said. The day’s upward move added about Rs 9.6 lakh crore to investors’ wealth with BSE’s market capitalisation now at Rs 422 lakh crore, official data showed. With the US market showing northward movement, market players expect another session of gains for Indian stocks on Friday, provided no negative news hits the ticker overnight.

Female elephant found dead in Katarniaghat | India News

Female elephant found dead in Katarniaghat

Bahraich: A female elephant was found dead under suspicious circumstances in the core zone of Katarniaghat Wildlife Division.Shockingly, the carcass reportedly lay decomposing for nearly a week in a dense forest area before being discovered, raising questions over forest monitoring and patrolling systems. The incident came to light late Tuesday night after a strong foul smell spread in nearby areas, alerting locals. The forest officials conducted a post-mortem and sent viscera samples to IVRI, Bareilly, for detailed examination to ascertain the exact cause of death.According to officials, the carcass was found about 2 km inside the forest near a stream in the Bichhiya beat area. The discovery was made by a patrolling team during night rounds.Following the information shared by forest range officer Ashish Gaur, senior officials including chief conservator of forests H Raja Mohan, divisional forest officer (DFO) Apoorva Dixit, and other team members rushed to the spot.A three-member veterinary team, led by Dr Talha and Dr Deepak, conducted the post-mortem. After preserving the viscera, the carcass was buried at the site using a JCB machine in the presence of forest officials. Authorities estimated the age of the elephant to be around 20 to 25 years.Officials said that the exact cause of death could not be determined during the post-mortem and would be known only after the viscera report.DFO Apoorva Dixit said the death appears to be natural at first glance, but other possibilities cannot be ruled out until the report is received.Villagers from nearby areas indicated that the carcass had been lying there for a long time. They also pointed out that elephant herds have been active in the region recently, and aggressive behaviour among tuskers raises the possibility of intra-herd conflict leading to the death. In recent years, several elephant deaths have been reported in the region.

Ashok Kharat: Rape accused Nashik ‘godman’ Ashok Kharat’s wife on the run, son detained; fresh land fraud case filed | Nashik News

Authorities are intensifying their probe into self-styled godman Ashok Kharat, detaining his son for questioning and searching for his wife.

NASHIK/SHIRDI: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing multiple cases against self-styled godman Ashok Kharat on Tuesday detained his son in Nashik for questioning and launched a search for his wife Kalpana, who remains untraceable, as reported by news agency PTI.Kharat, currently in police custody, is expected to be produced before a local court after his remand ends on Wednesday.

Officials said the SIT reached Kharat’s residence in Karmayogi Nagar and detained his son, Harshvardhan, who was later taken to the Maharashtra Police Academy for questioning. The move comes as the probe widens, with police stating that more than 100 complaints have been received against Kharat and at least 10 FIRs — including multiple cases of sexual exploitation and cheating — have been registered at Sarkarwada police station in Nashik. In a significant development, Shirdi police in Ahilyanagar district have registered a fresh case of cheating, criminal breach of trust and illegal money lending against Kharat, his wife Kalpana, and three others for allegedly usurping a four-acre land parcel in Nighoj, valued at around Rs 10 crore. The case is based on a complaint filed by Raosaheb Gondkar, a 55-year-old resident of Rahata. According to police, Gondkar had approached Kharat in August 2023 seeking a loan of Rs 5.52 crore to clear existing debts. As part of the agreement, he was required to execute a sale deed of his land as security, along with a memorandum of understanding and an agreement to sell, which allowed him to repurchase the property by August 2024 for Rs 6.07 crore. The complainant stated that he initially paid Rs 51 lakh as advance towards the repurchase and was required to repay the remaining amount with 2% interest. However, he alleged that over the following months he was pressured into making additional payments of Rs 90 lakh, Rs 25 lakh and Rs 50 lakh through intermediaries linked to Kharat.Investigators said that when Gondkar later attempted to settle the remaining dues and reclaim his land, Kharat allegedly stopped responding to calls and shut his Nashik-based office.Police have arrested two accused — Kiran Sonawane and Arvind Bawake — who were produced before a court and remanded to three days of police custody. Another accused, Ashok Prabhat Tambe, along with Kalpana, is absconding.According to the FIR, Sonawane, who was known to Gondkar, allegedly facilitated the loan arrangement and collected eight blank cheques from him. Using these, around Rs 1.65 crore was transferred to his account and routed to Kharat’s associates. Police said Sonawane and Gondkar had initially approached Kharat together as both were facing financial distress.Officials added that this is the 11th case registered against Kharat. At least seven cases involve allegations of sexual exploitation under the pretext of supernatural claims, while the remaining relate to cheating and financial fraud. The investigation is ongoing.

KKR vs SRH, IPL 2026, Match Prediction: Who will win today’s game between Kolkata Knight Riders and Sunrisers Hyderabad?

The stage is set for a high-octane clash at the historic Eden Gardens as the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) host the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the 6th match of the IPL 2026. Both teams are searching for their first win of the season after stumbling in their opening fixtures.

The Kolkata Knight Riders enter this contest under the steady leadership of Ajinkya Rahane, though they are under immediate pressure to bounce back following an opening defeat to Mumbai Indians. The squad faces some early-season turbulence with the absence of Harshit Rana and Akash Deep—the latter being replaced by Saurabh Dubey—while the lethal slinger Matheesha Pathirana remains sidelined while awaiting an NOC from Sri Lanka Cricket. All eyes will be on record-signing Cameron Green, who is expected to feature primarily as a specialist batter for now, and the veteran spin duo of Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy. After struggling for rhythm in their first outing, the ‘Twin Towers’ of KKR’s spin attack will be desperate to find purchase on the familiar Eden Gardens surface and reclaim their status as the league’s most restrictive pair.

Meanwhile, the Sunrisers Hyderabad narrative centres on a homecoming for Pat Cummins, who returns to the ground where he spent many of his formative IPL years. However, his participation remains clouded by fitness concerns; should he be unable to lead, the explosive Ishan Kishan is tipped to step in as stand-in captain. Despite the leadership uncertainty, the Sunrisers boast arguably the most intimidating batting core in the competition, featuring the high-octane trio of Travis Head, Heinrich Klaasen, and Abhishek Sharma. With David Payne recently joining the ranks as an injury replacement for Jack Edwards, SRH look to unleash their signature brand of aggressive cricket and capitalize on a KKR bowling attack that is still searching for its final form.

KKR vs SRH, Head-to-Head Record in IPL

Matches played: 30 | KKR won: 20 | SRH won: 10 | No result/Tied: 0

Eden Gardens Pitch Report

The Eden Gardens surface has shed its old reputation as a spin sanctuary, evolving into a genuine batter’s paradise characterized by its dry, hard nature. While fast bowlers can expect some initial movement under the lights with the new ball, the track quickly flattens out, often becoming a graveyard for bowlers as the match progresses. Consequently, a first-innings total of 170 is no longer safe, with 200+ scores becoming the modern standard here. Given the clear skies and the inevitable arrival of heavy evening dew, the toss becomes crucial; captains will almost certainly look to chase to capitalize on the skidding ball and dampened outfield in the second half.

Supreme Court fines Centre for plea on CISF cop’s sacking case | India News

Supreme Court fines Centre for plea on CISF cop’s sacking case

NEW DELHI: The SC slammed the govt for clogging courts with needless appeals and imposed Rs 25,000 cost for challenging a well-reasoned Punjab and Haryana high court order that had quashed the Centre’s decision to terminate a CISF official who helped a couple elope . The official was removed from his job in 2010 on grounds of misconduct for being absent from duty and for conniving with the daughter of a CISF constable.

We keep shouting pendency, pendency. Who is the biggest litigant, SC asks govt

He had allegedly helped her elope and marry his friend at Arya Samaj Mandir. He had approached the HC, which directed his reinstatement with 25% back wages after which Centre filed an appeal in the apex court. At the outset of the hearing on Wednesday, a bench of Justices B V Nagarathna and Ujjal Bhuyan questioned govt for filing the appeal and said that Centre’s decision to terminate the job was disproportionate. The bench reminded that govts had been contributing to ever-increasing pendency by filing unnecessary cases like the present one and said it was a fit case to impose fine.“We keep shouting pendency, pendency. Who is the biggest litigant? The high court granted him relief. Instead of giving an opinion that you will not go to the Supreme Court, you still proceed against him. We fail to understand as to why the Union of India and others have approached this court to assail the HC order,” the bench told additional solicitor general S D Sanjay. The govt tried to impress upon the court that it was a case of gross indiscipline as the CISF official was involved in the elopement of a girl, but the apex court upheld the order of the HC which had held that the girl was an adult on the date of marriage and charge against the official did not stand.“Her statement has been recorded and reflects that she got married at her own volition and she was an adult on the date of her marriage. The said charge hence does not survive,” the HC had said.
