undefined undefined/undefined in undefined Overs | AUS vs ENG Live Score, 2nd Ashes Test Day 2: Joe Root, Jofra Archer aim to frustrate Australia further at the Gabba

AUS vs ENG Live Score, 2nd Ashes Test Day 2: Joe Root finally broke one of Test cricket’s most scrutinised barriers, smashing his maiden century in Australia to lift England from disaster to respectability on Day 1 of the second Ashes Test at the Gabba. Arriving at 5/2 after Mitchell Starc tore through the top order, Root responded with an authoritative unbeaten 135 that guided England to 325/9 at stumps.

On his fourth Ashes tour, the 34-year-old silenced critics who argued he could not join cricket’s elite without a hundred Down Under. Zak Crawley supported him with a gritty 76 in a 117-run stand, later calling Root “the best player I’ve ever played with or against.”

But the day also belonged to Mitchell Starc, who claimed 6-71 and overtook Pakistan legend Wasim Akram to become the most prolific left-arm fast bowler in Test history with 418 wickets. Starc humbly responded, “Wasim’s still the pinnacle,” even after breaking the record. His two early strikes — Ben Duckett for a golden duck and Ollie Pope bowled — gave Australia a dream start under lights.

Late fireworks came from No. 11 Jofra Archer, who smashed 32 off 26 balls, including two towering sixes, to set a new England 10th-wicket partnership record at the Gabba with Root.

In a shock move, Australia dropped off-spinner Nathan Lyon for seamer Michael Neser, marking their first home Test without a frontline spinner in almost 14 years. England’s tempered approach after their collapse in Perth helped them survive the evening session, leaving the contest delicately poised.

No intelligence background: Israel names Roman Gofman as new Mossad director – Who is he?

No intelligence background: Israel names Roman Gofman as new Mossad director - Who is he?

Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Thursday appointed his military secretary, major general Roman Gofman, a senior officer with no intelligence background, as the next director of the Mossad.Netanyahu’s office said Gofman will take over from current Mossad chief David Barnea, whose five-year term ends in June 2026.“Gofman is a highly distinguished officer,” stated Netanyahu’s office, as cited by the Times of Israel. “His appointment as the prime minister’s military secretary in the midst of the war… proved that he possesses exceptional professional capabilities, from his rapid entry into the role to his immediate and significant involvement in the seven arenas of the war.”After naming David Zini, a military figure from Israel’s religious Zionist movement, to lead the Shin Bet domestic security agency, Netanyahu has once again chosen someone aligned with his nationalist outlook to head one of Israel’s key security institutions.“The prime minister believes that Maj Gen Gofman is the most qualified and suitable candidate to serve as Mossad director and wishes him great success in this important role,” the PMO added. Netanyahu said Gofman, who has never served in the Mossad, has nonetheless worked closely with the agency and other defence bodies in his role as military secretary.

Who is Roman Gofman?

Born in Belarus in 1976, Gofman moved to Israel at the age of 14 and joined the army’s armoured corps in 1995, beginning a long military career. Although he does not wear a yarmulke like practising religious Jews, Gofman studied at the Ely yeshiva, a Jewish religious school in a West Bank settlement known for its right-wing religious Zionist leanings, as cited by AFP.In 2020, Gofman was appointed commander of the 210th “Bashan” Regional Division, which oversees Israel’s border with Syria. During his tenure, he authorised an arrangement in which intelligence officers provided classified information to Israeli teenager Ori Elmakayes for an unsanctioned social media influence campaign, a move that later drew significant criticism, as reported by the Times of Israel. At the onset of the Gaza war following Hamas’s October 7, 2023, attacks, he was serving as commander of the national infantry training centre. He was seriously wounded that day in clashes with Hamas militants in the southern city of Sderot, near the Gaza border.Gofman later joined the prime minister’s office in April 2024.Gofman is regarded as close to Netanyahu, having served as his military secretary for nearly two years. In that role, he travelled on the prime minister’s behalf for various assignments and supervised the execution of Netanyahu’s directives within the IDF.The Mossad, regarded as one of the world’s leading intelligence agencies, was not implicated in the intelligence failures surrounding the October 7 attacks, as the Palestinian territories have traditionally been outside its remit. In contrast, the heads of the Shin Bet and Aman (military intelligence) resigned after accepting responsibility for the security lapse.

Top stocks to buy today: Stock recommendations for December 5, 2025 – check list

Top stocks to buy today: Stock recommendations for December 5, 2025 - check list
Top stocks to buy (AI image)

Stock market recommendations: According to Bajaj Broking Research, the top stock picks for December 5, 2025 are Max Healthcare, and Tata Power. Here’s its view on Nifty and Bank Nifty:Index View: NIFTYBenchmark indices spent the previous week oscillating within a defined consolidation band, digesting their recent up move. The Nifty registered a fresh lifetime peak of 26,325 during Monday’s trade. However, lost momentum at elevated levels amid bouts of profit-taking, triggered in part by renewed pressure on the Indian rupee, which depreciated to a record low against the US dollar. Persistent foreign portfolio outflows (FPI selling) further exacerbated currency weakness, injecting a note of caution into risk sentiment. In the near term, market trajectory is likely to be dictated by currency stabilization dynamics, especially whether the rupee can find a durable floor. Additionally, investors will be closely tracking the RBI’s upcoming monetary policy statement for cues on the central bank’s stance regarding inflation management, liquidity calibration, and potential interventions to support the rupee. On the global front, the US FOMC policy outcome will remain a critical macro catalyst, shaping expectations around global rate differentials and capital flows. Moreover, clarity on evolving India–US trade negotiations could influence sector-specific outlooks, particularly in export-linked and tariff-sensitive industries. A key observation on the Nifty daily chart is that the entire up-move over the past two months has remained well within a rising channel, indicating sustained buying interest at higher levels and reinforcing an overall positive bias.We believe the current 3-4 sessions breather should be used to accumulate quality stocks in a staggered manner for the next leg of up move towards 26,500 and then towards 26,800 in the coming weeks being the measuring implication of the recent range breakout and the upper band of the last two months rising channel.Nifty has key support in the range of 25700-25900 being the confluence of the 50-day EMA, the bullish gap from November 12 and the lower band of the rising channel of the last two months. Holding above the support area will keep the overall bias positive and only a breakdown below the support area will signal a pause in the current positive trend. NIFTY BANKBank Nifty traded in a range, digesting its last four weeks strong gains. Earlier during the week, it formed a fresh all-time high of 26114. However, profit booking at higher levels saw the index traded in a range ahead of the RBI monetary policy outcome. We expect the index to consolidate and form a base in the range of 58500-60100 in the coming sessions. A follow through strength above Monday’s high (60114) will open further upside towards 60,400 and then towards 61,000 levels in the coming weeks. The entire up move of the last 2 months is well channelled signaling sustained demand at elevated levels. Key support is placed at 58,300-58,600 levels being the confluence of the last two weeks lows and recent breakout area. Holding above the support area will keep the short-term bias positive.

Stock Recommendations:

Max HealthcareBuy in the range of ₹ 1070-1090

Target Return Time Period
₹ 1190 10% 6 Months

The stock is forming base at the 52 week EMA and the 61.8% retracement of the previous major up move (940-1314).We believe the current decline is approaching price and time wise maturity and the stock is likely to resume up move and head towards 1190 levels being the confluence of the high of November and key retracement area. The daily stochastic has approached extreme oversold territory and we expect the stock to resume its positive momentum in the coming weeks.Tata PowerBuy in the range of 381-386

Target Return Time Period
₹ 430 12% 6 Months

Tata Power continues to trade sideways on the daily timeframe, oscillating within a well-defined range of ₹380–₹420. The stock is currently forming a rectangle pattern, with consistent buying support emerging near the ₹380 zone.Historically, the counter has shown a tendency to rebound from these lower levels and head towards the upper end of the range, which lies near ₹420.Given the prevailing price structure and renewed momentum, the stock appears poised to extend its upward trajectory, first towards the upper band of ₹420, and potentially up to ₹430, which aligns with the 127.2% Fibonacci extension of the previous swing.(Disclaimer: Recommendations and views on the stock market, other asset classes or personal finance management tips given by experts are their own. Super Cup: FC Goa a win away from Asia | Goa News

David Timor celebrates with his FC Goa teammates after doubling the lead against Mumbai at Fatorda

Margao: It wasn’t easy, and it surely wasn’t without its share of drama.FC Goa survived some nervy moments in the second half as they saw off the challenge of Mumbai City 2-1 to seal a place in the final of the Super Cup at the Nehru Stadium in Fatorda on Thursday.Goa will face East Bengal in Sunday’s title clash, with the winners booking a continental spot. It’s the same route that Manolo Marquez’s side took to the AFC Champions League Two playoffs last season. They will now be keen to retain their crown, and a place in Asia.Even before kick off, there was drama in the tunnel. The match was delayed by a few minutes after Goa’s Iker Guarrotxena was shown a straight red card during lineup. According to sources, the Spanish midfielder was asked to change his blue inner shorts since it did not match with the team’s white shorts. He went inside the dressing room, changed, but after rejoining the lineup, the referee showed him a red card, presumably over his choice of words during the disagreement. As per rules, “a player who is sent off after being named on the team list and before kick off, maybe replaced by a named substitute.”Guarrotxena was replaced in the starting 11 by Javier Siverio.Goa seemed distracted with what happened prior to kick off. They were disjointed on the field in the early minutes; Brison Fernandes even picked up a booking. But all that was forgotten as the defending champions scored the opener in the 21st minute through Brison’s half volley. David Timor made it 2-0 two minutes later with a powerful shot that bounced off the goalkeeper’s chest and wobbled into the goal.Whether it’s in the first half or closing minutes of the second, Goa are never comfortable with a 2-0 advantage against Mumbai. The wounds from 2024 when the visitors staged an unbelievable comeback in stoppage time at Fatorda were still fresh in everyone’s mind, so nobody was surprised when the hosts adopted a guarded approach. In fact, Mumbai captain Lallianzuala Chhangte missed a second-half penalty, and even though Brandon Fernandes pulled a goal back – a wonderful drive through inside the box — with more than half an hour left on the clock, Goa showed remarkable composure to ensure there were no more setbacks. In part, that credit should go to Hrithik Tiwari. The Goa goalkeeper needlessly conceded a penalty after clattering into Jorge Pereyra Diaz, but made amends stunning saves to deny Chhangte, Diaz, and Jorge Ortiz from distance.Goa had little to show in the second half and relied on a solid defensive performance from the centreback pairing of Pol Moreno and Ronney Wilson, who had to step in for injured captain Sandesh Jhingan. Timor had a good game too.

'You saved our eyes!': Matthew Hayden's daughter celebrates Joe Root century with hilarious jab
Joe Root and Grace Hayden

BRISBANE: Joe Root finally broke his long-awaited century jinx in Australia on Thursday, but the loudest sigh of relief didn’t come from England’s dressing room — it came from Matthew Hayden’s house. And more specifically, from his daughter, Grace.Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW!Root’s fluent 135 on Day 1 of the pink-ball Ashes Test at the Gabba not only ended 10 years of Australian heartbreak but also saved Hayden from fulfilling a bizarre promise. The former Australia opener had jokingly vowed to “walk naked around the MCG” if Root failed to score a hundred this series.

JP Duminy Interview_ Opens up on the art of finishing, why Tim David is special, coaching in ILT20

The moment Root reached three figures off Scott Boland, social media exploded — and Hayden’s daughter stole the spotlight with a cheeky Instagram story. Posting a selfie, Grace wrote: “Root, thank you, you’ve saved all our eyes.” The hilarious post instantly went viral, turning Root’s milestone into an internet spectacle.

Grace Hayden

Hayden himself quickly posted a congratulatory video shared by England Cricket on X, laughing at his own wager while praising Root’s perseverance.“Congratulations mate on a hundred here in Australia. Took you a while and there was no one that had more skin in the game than me, literally. I was backing you for a hundred in a good way. So congratulations, ten fifties and finally a hundred. You little ripper mate. Have a beauty and bloody enjoy it,” Hayden joked.A decade-long wait endsRoot’s ton was his first in Australia after 16 matches, 30 innings, and four Ashes tours. He brought calm to a tense English innings and climbed to 40 Test hundreds — just one behind Ricky Ponting (41) and trailing only Sachin Tendulkar (51) and Jacques Kallis (45).At stumps, England were 325/9, with Root unbeaten on 135 and Jofra Archer on 32.While Australia dropped regular captain Pat Cummins again and shockingly benched Nathan Lyon for Michael Neser, it was Root’s history-making innings — and Grace Hayden’s viral punchline — that ruled the day.For Root, it was a career milestone. For the Hayden household? It was a national emergency narrowly avoided.

Mumbai’s Worli emerges as India’s ultra-luxe hub: Premium apartments fetch up to Rs 1 lakh per sq ft; prices rival New York’s lower Manhattan | Mumbai News

MUMBAI: Worli is now home to 40% of India’s entire ultra-luxury apartment market, according to a report by Anarock Group released on Thursday.New data from Anarock and 360 One Wealth report, ‘The Pinnacle of Luxury: Worli’, reveals that 30-plus homes priced above Rs 40 crore each have sold in the last 24 months, totalling over Rs 5,500 crore.“Across the entire country – from Bengaluru’s sprawling tech corridors to Delhi’s power pockets – Worli accounts for nearly half of all transactions exceeding Rs 40 crore,” said Anuj Puri, chairman of ANAROCK Group. “2025 alone witnessed one of India’s costliest apartment transactions — two duplexes sold for Rs 700 crore. Over the past three years, Worli has seen over 20 residential deals individually priced above Rs 100 crore each closed.“Premium tower apartments in Worli now command Rs 65,000 to Rs 1 lakh per sq ft – pricing that positions it as India’s equivalent to New York’s Lower Manhattan, not merely in aspiration, but in hard economics,’’ said the report. There are nearly 4-5 million sq ft of premium residential and retail space currently under construction in Worli.“Residential dominance masks another reality in Worli — commercial office space commands Rs 180-375 per sq ft monthly rents with a razor-thin 8.1% vacancy rate. In India’s commercial real estate context, this is scarcity pricing which signals that institutional capital sees Worli not as a residentialonly play but as Mumbai’s emerging central business district,’’ said the report.Land transactions totalling over Rs 7,600 crore have already closed from 2023 onwards in and around Worli, with revenue potential exceeding more than Rs 36,000 crore. In residential alone, Rs 19,000 crore-Rs 21,000 crore worth of projects are midconstruction. At least 40 acres of real estate projects by top developers are in the pipeline, “denoting a land bank that can potentially generate tens of thousands of crores in future transaction value”, it said.

NEW DELHI: Out-of-favour India pacer Mohammed Shami delivered another strong performance in domestic cricket, taking 4 for 13 to help Bengal beat Services by seven wickets in a Group C match of the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in Hyderabad on Thursday. This was Bengal’s fourth win in five matches in the tournament. The team, led by Abhimanyu Easwaran, moved to the top of the points table with 16 points and is in a good position to reach the knockouts.

Ruturaj Gaikwad press conference: Reveals Gautam Gambhir message, No.4 and more

Easwaran, who is also trying to strengthen his case ahead of the IPL auction, scored 58 off 37 balls. Bengal chased 166 in 15.1 overs. Abhishek Porel, representing Delhi Capitals in the IPL, scored 56 off 29 balls. The pair added 93 runs for the second wicket in 8.2 overs, which set up the chase. The platform was created by Shami, who was named Player of the Match for his figures of 4/13 in 3.2 overs, and India pacer Akash Deep, who took 3/27. Services were bowled out for 165 in 18.2 overs. Shami picked two wickets in his first spell, dismissing openers Gaurav Kocchar (0) and Ravi Chauhan (26 off 9). Mukesh Kumar, on his return, gave away 53 runs in three overs. Writtick Chatterjee (2/32) and Akash Deep removed key middle-order batters before Shami ended the innings by taking the final wickets.

Poll

Should Mohammed Shami be included in the Indian squad for upcoming series?

Shami’s strong domestic performance comes when India’s pace-bowling options for the South Africa series are being discussed. Prasidh Krishna conceded 85 runs in the second ODI, even though he took two wickets, which led to debate about Shami’s absence. Harbhajan Singh also questioned the decision.“Where is Shami? I don’t know why Shami is not playing. I get it, you have Prasidh, he is a good bowler, but he still has a lot to learn. You had good bowlers, and you have slowly sidelined them. With Bumrah, this is a different bowling attack, and without Bumrah, it is entirely different attack altogether. We have to learn the art of winning games without Jasprit Bumrah,” Harbhajan said on his YouTube channel. Shami has not played for India since the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy, where he finished as India’s joint-highest wicket-taker with nine wickets.
