‘We’ve been here before’: Cautious Carey flags 2023 lesson as Australia head to Adelaide 2-0 up in Ashes | Cricket News

'We’ve been here before': Cautious Carey flags 2023 lesson as Australia head to Adelaide 2-0 up in Ashes

Australian wicketkeeper-batter Alex Carey said England’s mid-series break in Noosa could help them, but cautioned Australia against relaxing despite the 2-0 lead in the Ashes. Carey said memories of the 2023 Ashes in England, when Australia were unable to win the series after leading 2-0, would keep his side alert.England reached Noosa, a resort town on the Queensland coast, on Tuesday for a four-night break. They are scheduled to train three times in Adelaide before the third Test.“I think it’d be a nice holiday. It’s a pretty big series, with lots of time between games. For the Australian cricket team, we get to go home for a few days and be with families, so touring parties have got to find time to fill in those little windows,” news agency ANI reported Carey as saying, citing ESPNcricinfo.“We know England are a very good team. We also understand we were in a position like this a couple of years ago in England. We weren’t able to win that series, but we were good enough to retain the Ashes. We’re really excited for the opportunity we’ve got, but we understand we’ve got to keep playing good cricket,” he added.Carey said it was England’s call how they used the break and felt stepping away from the game could help players reset. He said the Ashes demands balance and players cannot stay focused on cricket every day.“I’m not sure you need to do it [but] it’s totally up to the touring groups to find ways to take your mind off cricket for a little bit. The Ashes is very hotly contested. You don’t want to be thinking of cricket every single day of the tour. If you do have a little break, it’s probably not a bad time to refresh the batteries,” Carey said.England’s attacking batting approach did not work in the first two Tests. They suffered a two-day defeat in Perth in the opening Test, with Travis Head playing a key role. In the second Test, Joe Root scored a century, while Zak Crawley and captain Ben Stokes spent time at the crease. After conceding a 177-run first-innings lead with a total of 511, England could not recover. Apart from a 96-run partnership between Stokes and Will Jacks, they were bowled out for 241 in the third innings, leaving Australia a target of 65, which they chased comfortably.Australia have also received a boost ahead of the third Test, with captain Pat Cummins set to return in Adelaide after recovering from a back injury. The 32-year-old has not played international cricket since the third Test against West Indies in July.Australia lead the five-match series 2-0. The third Ashes Test will be played in Adelaide from December 17.

India’s first hydrogen-powered train: What’s special about it? Top 5 things to know

India’s first hydrogen-powered train: What’s special about it? Top 5 things to know

In a major move towards greener transportation, Indian Railways has completed the manufacturing of its first hydrogen-powered train on a pilot basis, following specifications laid out by the Research, Design & Standards Organisation (RDSO).“This project involved designing from first stages, prototype manufacturing and first-time development of hydrogen traction technology in Indian Railways,” said Union minister for railways, information & broadcasting Ashwini Vaishnaw in a reply in Parliament. He added that the project marks a significant step in adopting next-generation fuel technology for sustainable rail transport in India.

Here are five key things to know about the hydrogen-powered train:

  • Hydrogen supply: A dedicated hydrogen plant has been set up at Jind, where hydrogen is produced using the electrolysis process, a key component of green hydrogen generation.
  • Made in India: Designed and developed entirely in India, the train reflects Indian Railways’ commitment to Atmanirbhar Bharat.
  • World-class scale: It is currently the world’s longest hydrogen train on a Broad Gauge platform, comprising 10 coaches, and also the most powerful at 2,400 kW.
  • Powerful configuration: The train-set includes two Driving Power Cars (DPCs) of 1,200 kW each, totaling 2,400 kW, along with eight passenger coaches.
  • Zero emissions: The hydrogen-powered train emits no CO2, with water vapor being its only by-product.

Since the hydrogen train and its supporting infrastructure are currently developed on a pilot basis, direct cost comparisons with conventional diesel or electric trains are not yet feasible.Nonetheless, the project demonstrates Indian Railways’ commitment to alternative energy-powered train travel and a cleaner, greener future for India’s transportation sector.

The Indianapolis Colts have shocked the NFL by pulling 44-year-old Philip Rivers out of retirement after Daniel Jones went down with a season-ending Achilles injury. With the playoff race tightening and stability at quarterback slipping away, the Colts turned to a trusted veteran who already proved he can win in Indianapolis. Suddenly, Rivers is back in the building and potentially days away from returning to action. The biggest question heading into Week 15 is whether the former Pro Bowler will suit up against the Seattle Seahawks. Making a comeback at this stage of the season is rare, but the Colts’ situation might demand it. With a playoff berth still within reach, Indianapolis is evaluating just how quickly Rivers can get up to game speed.

Philip Rivers’ week 15 status: Will the Colts start the 44-year-old QB in Seattle?

Rivers completed a private workout shortly after the Colts’ Week 14 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars, and the front office liked what they saw. Impressed by his conditioning and familiarity with the system, the team signed him to the practice squad on Tuesday. Now, all attention turns toward how ready he is to take the field and whether he could start as soon as Sunday. As the team ramps up preparations for the Seahawks, the Colts continue to monitor everything from Rivers’ timing to his ability to re-adjust to NFL tempo. While nothing has been finalized, Indianapolis has made it clear they won’t hesitate to activate him if he proves capable of running the offense.Adding to the nostalgia of his return, Rivers will also reclaim his old jersey number. With Daniel Jones on injured reserve, the veteran quarterback will once again wear No. 17, the number he’s proudly represented throughout his entire career.Rivers’ history with Indianapolis gives him a strong head start. During his 2020 season with the Colts, he delivered steady and efficient play, completing 68% of his passes for 4,169 yards, 24 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions. That performance propelled the team to an 11-5 finish and a playoff berth, ending in a narrow Wild Card loss to the Buffalo Bills before Rivers announced his retirement. Now, nearly five years later, Indianapolis is hoping his leadership and precision can once again bring stability at the most crucial point of the season. Whether he starts in Week 15 or soon after, Rivers’ comeback adds a dramatic twist to the Colts’ playoff push, and all eyes will be on Seattle to see if the veteran’s return becomes reality this Sunday. Also Read: Philip Rivers returns to NFL at 44 to join Indianapolis Colts amid quarterback shortage, reveals NFL insider

‘End of my career’, ‘biometrics done, what to do now’: Panic spreads as US defers H-1B visa appointments in India

Visa applicants in India Tuesday received messages that their appointment at the consular office this week has been rescheduled. The rescheduled dates are mostly in March 2026 as the immigration office buys time for social media vetting of applicants — the new rule that kicks in from December 15, 2025 where all social media accounts of applicants will be scrutinized to check if the individual made any negative posts about the US. Panic spread as the US Embassy in India also confirmed that appointment dates are being rescheduled. “If you have received an email advising that your visa appointment has been rescheduled, Mission India looks forward to assisting you on your new appointment date. Arriving on your previously scheduled appointment date will result in your being denied admittance to the Consulate,” the message said.Social media users said the clarification from the embassy was vague as applicants are left in a lurch, as they don’t know what to do until March, and whether their companies in the US will allow them to remain in India till March.

Visa appointment getting rescheduled to 2026 will make careers end, Redditors panic.

‘Stuck in India, end of my career’

A Redditor said the appointment rescheduling will end the career as the US employer would not allow to work remotely. “I am stuck in India, have biometrics this week. I used all my leaves to come for stamping. My employer cannot allow me to work remotely. This is the end of my career, worked so hard to get a job and build my life so far, everything is gone with one single decision. I dont know what to do since it is moved to May 2025, and I will certainly lose my job. This is the end of all my hardwork and dreams,” the person wrote.

‘Canceled right after I completed biometrics today’

One user said the visa appointment in Chennai consulated scheduled on December 18 got canceled right after their biometrics Tuesday. “This is new uncharted territory for everyone. I think you and everyone else should reach out to your employer and their immigration firms, solicit their advice and come back to this group with the advice provided by the lawyers. Only after a good sample set of advice received from various employers and lawyers, will we able to make sense of what the next steps can be,” one wrote. Some applicants said they came to India for that appointment and now they don’t know what to do as they can’t stay in India until their rescheduled date in 2026.

Goa nightclub fire: On Goa govt request, MEA mulls revoking passports of Luthra brothers; net tightens | India News

Goa nightclub fire: On Goa govt request, MEA mulls revoking passports of Luthra brothers; net tightens

NEW DLEHI: The external affairs ministry on Wednesday received a request from the Goa government seeking to revoke the passports of Gaurav and Saurabh Luthra, and the request is currently under examination, reported PTI citing sources. The move comes amid an expanding probe into the nightclub blaze in North Goa that killed 25 people last week. Earlier on Tuesday Interpol issued a blue corner notice against the brothers, who are believed to be hiding in Phuket, Thailand. According to the police investigation, the Luthra brothers booked tickets for a Phuket-bound flight at 1.17am on December 7, even as firefighters battled the massive fire at Birch by Romeo Lane in Arpora. They reportedly flew out by 5.30am on IndiGo flight 6E-1073. Goa DGP Alok Kumar described their departure as “a clear attempt to evade investigation.”Despite leaving India, the brothers have approached a Delhi court for four weeks’ transit anticipatory bail, arguing they travelled to Thailand for work and not to escape. Their plea, filed in a Rohini court on Wednesday, stated: “We want to come back,” while maintaining they were not involved in daily operations of the nightclub.A beach shack run by the brothers is also slated for demolition. Shortly after their departure, Look Out Circulars were issued, and a Goa police team reached Delhi with an arrest warrant, but the duo was untraceable. Immigration authorities later confirmed they had already left the country. Their anticipatory bail plea will be heard on Thursday after the court declined interim relief.Meanwhile, Goa police have arrested four staff members of the nightclub – chief general manager Rajiv Modak, gate manager Priyanshu Thakur, bar manager Rajveer Singhania and general manager Vivek Singh – who have been remanded to six days’ custody. Three suspended state government officials have also been summoned as the investigation continues.

5 players Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) can target in the IPL 2026 auction

IPL 2026 auction is expected to trigger another round of squad reshaping as franchises look to plug tactical gaps ahead of a fresh title push. For Sunrisers Hyderabad, whose last two seasons have exposed issues in death bowling and middle-overs control despite a powerful top order, this auction is a chance to rebuild their attack around younger, multi-dimensional talents. With a decent purse and several slots to fill, SRH can afford to be bold in targeting impact players who address specific shortcomings rather than just adding depth.

5 players that Sunrisers Hyderabad can go for in IPL 2026 mini auction

1. Cameron Green

Cameron Green is the kind of multi-dimensional overseas signing who can change the structure of SRH’s XI overnight. A powerful top-order batter capable of operating at No. 3 or No. 4, Green brings a proven record of high strike-rate run scoring in the IPL along with the ability to bowl two to three overs of heavy seam-up pace. His presence would give SRH flexibility to keep an aggressive opener-heavy approach while still having a stabilizing middle-order presence who can also finish innings. With the ball, he can be used as a matchup option against right-handers or as a sixth bowler, which is vital for a side that has often looked one-dimensional once their frontline attack goes off the boil.

2. Matheesha Pathirana

Matheesha Pathirana directly answers SRH’s most visible problem in recent seasons: death-overs leakage. The Sri Lankan quick has already built a reputation as one of the best end-overs specialists in the league, using his slingy action, accurate yorkers and sharp slower balls to suffocate batting sides in overs 16–20. For a team that has repeatedly conceded big finishes despite starting well with the ball, Pathirana offers not just wickets at the back end but also psychological control over chasing teams who know they must take risks against him. Slotting him into the attack would allow SRH to plan their pace resources around a designated closer, easing pressure on the rest of the seam unit.

3. Ravi Bishnoi

Ravi Bishnoi would give SRH something they have missed badly: a genuine attacking Indian wrist-spinner who can control and strike in the middle overs. Bishnoi has built his T20 reputation on aggressive lines, sharp googlies and the ability to keep batters guessing while maintaining a respectable economy in phases where teams usually accelerate. SRH’s spin attack has often lacked bite, forcing them to over-bowl pacers on flat decks and leaving them exposed when conditions do not help seam. By bringing in Bishnoi, they get a middle-overs enforcer who can target opposition anchors, break partnerships and create scoreboard pressure that complements their fast-bowling plans.

4. Akash Deep

Akash Deep is an ideal domestic pace option for SRH to reinforce the powerplay and early middle overs. He has already shown in the IPL that he can swing the new ball, hit good hard lengths and pick wickets up front, which are traits SRH have sometimes missed outside their frontline stars. A reliable Indian seamer also gives the franchise crucial squad balance, ensuring they do not have to burn an overseas slot on a support pacer. With the right backing, Akash can become SRH’s go-to Indian quick who shares the new ball, allowing the team to rotate their premium overseas bowlers according to conditions and opposition.

5. Auqib Nabi

Auqib Nabi represents a smart, future-facing investment from the domestic circuit. The Jammu & Kashmir pacer has consistently impressed with his ability to hit the right lengths, generate movement and sustain pressure in both red- and white-ball cricket. For SRH, Nabi offers a low-cost, high-upside option who can initially be groomed as a squad seamer and gradually eased into first-choice contention. His skill set suits Indian conditions: he can swing it early, bowl disciplined spells through the middle and adapt to different roles as he gains experience. For a franchise that needs to build a stronger Indian pace core for the long term, Nabi fits the profile of a shrewd auction pick.
