When he was in the 90s, UAE wicketkeeper Saleh Amin tried to unsettle him by saying, “Come on boys. 90’s curse. 90’s curse.”“Tere saath selfie loon?” replied Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, as quoted by Hindistan Times. He was later dismissed by left-arm spinner Uddish Suri in the 32nd over, but India were already in a strong position thanks to his score.

Zubeen's manager, fest organiser among 4 to face murder trial
A 12,000-page chargesheet has been filed in the Zubeen Garg death case, with four individuals, including a woman, accused of murder. The investigation into the incident off Singapore’s St John’s Island on September 19 has established motive and conspiracy. The Assam Chief Minister expressed confidence in securing a conviction and plans for a fast-track court.

GUWAHATI: Four of the seven arrested suspects linked to cultural icon Zubeen Garg‘s death, including the lone woman in the group, have been charged with murder and another with culpable homicide not amounting to murder in a 12,000-page chargesheet filed Friday by the special investigation team (SIT) probing what happened off Singapore’s St John’s Island on Sept 19.North East India Festival organiser Shyamkanu Mahanta, at whose invitation Zubeen travelled to Singapore, the singer-composer-actor’s manager Siddharth Sharma, band member Shekhar Jyoti Goswami and female singer Amritprava Mahanta will face trial for murder (BNS Sec 103), common intention (Sec 3), and criminal conspiracy (Sec 61).Motive established in Zubeen case: Assam CM Himanta

Assam CM Calls Zubeen Garg’s Death ‘Plain Murder’, Drops Explosive Revelation

Zubeen’s cousin and suspended Assam Police Service officer Sandipan Garg has been charged with culpable homcide not amounting to murder (Sec 105), while PSOs Nandeswar Bora and Paresh Baishya will be tried for criminal breach of trust (Sec 316) and criminal conspiracy. While other details of the chargesheet received by the Kamrup district CJM’s court weren’t immediately available, CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said its submission within the stipulated timeframe of three months reflected the state govt’s commitment to ensuring justice for Zubeen.“We gave the people of Assam our word. As promised, we have filed a chargesheet under Section 103 (murder) and 11 other sections of BNS,” he said. “Motive and criminal conspiracy have been established and examined by the advocate general and our director of prosecution. Everyone is convinced the prosecution will be able to get a conviction.”The BJP-led govt plans to petition the chief justice of Gauhati high court to set up a fast-track court for the trial. Sarma said a special public prosecutor would be appointed once the case moves from the CJM’s court to a sessions judge. “These are legal steps that we have to meticulously follow,” he told reporters. The chargesheet includes the SIT’s reconstruction of events leading to Zubeen’s death, available evidence, statements of the suspects and the testimonies of 300-odd witnesses.Sarma said the SIT, led by special DGP MP Gupta, had put in “hard labour” to build what he said was a watertight case against the suspects. “Although we have received documents from Singapore, we have built the case with independent findings. Even if court says that no Singapore document is admissible, we have filed a chargesheet with sufficient documentation to prove the charges. Now, it is over to the court. It will definitely give justice.Shekhar Jyoti and Amritprava are in a sub-jail in Dima Hasao district’s Haflong while the rest are in Baksa district jail.Barring Shyamkanu and the two PSOs, the suspects were on the yacht that took Zubeen to the island for sightseeing and swimming. SIT has recorded the statements of 10 Assamese residents of Singapore who accompanied the group on that trip.

Speaking to Filmygyan, Rakesh said, “Iss saal Dhurandhar itni badi hit hai, aur abhi toh bas shuruaat hai. Yeh toh aadhi film hai, aadhi toh baaki hai. Lekin woh limelight mein hai hi nahi. Woh kisi ko interview nahi de raha, baat nahi kar raha. Woh apne ghar jaake baith gaya hai. He is with his family. He is not like, ‘Oh, maine yeh kar diya, woh kar diya…’ He is not busy brandishing the pomp and show; he’s not doing that (This year, Dhurandhar is such a big hit, and this is just the beginning. This is only half the story; the other half is yet to come. But he isn’t in the limelight at all. He isn’t giving interviews or talking to anyone. He has simply gone home and is spending time with his family. He’s not like, ‘Oh, I did this, I did that…’).”After Dhurandhar released, Aditya Dhar and his wife, actress Yami Gautam, visited the sacred Naina Devi Temple in Himachal Pradesh. They were joined by Yami’s mother, Anjali Gautam, and other family members. The family performed traditional rituals during the visit before returning to Mumbai.

Dhurandhar 2 – Revenge confirmed for 2026 release

The makers have officially announced a sequel titled Dhurandhar 2 – Revenge, set for release on March 19, 2026. The film is headed for a major box-office clash with Yash’s highly anticipated Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups.Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar continues to perform steadily overseas, earning Rs 44.08 crore internationally within four days. However, its global potential has taken a significant hit due to a complete ban across the Gulf. WTC points table 2025-27 [Updated]: New Zealand jumps past India and Pakistan after taking 1-0 lead against West Indies

New Zealand surged to third in WTC 2025-27 standings after dominating West Indies in second Test. The Black Caps’ nine-wicket victory at Wellington’s Basin Reserve propelled them past India and Pakistan, tying Sri Lanka at 66.67% points percentage.

New Zealand’s dominance seal an unassailable lead over West Indies

New Zealand claimed a commanding 1-0 lead in the three-match series against West Indies following the second Test’s emphatic win on December 14, 2025. West Indies batted first and folded for 205, with Shai Hope top-scoring on 47, before New Zealand declared at 278 for nine, powered by half-centuries from Devon Conway (60) and Mitchell Hay (61). In the decisive second innings, West Indies crumbled to 128 all out, as seamer Jacob Duffy claimed player-of-the-match honours with a fiery 5-38 spell at an economy of 2.19, while Michael Rae chipped in with three wickets. Chasing just 56, Conway (28*) and Kane Williamson (16*) steered New Zealand home effortlessly, losing only skipper Tom Latham early.

The first Test at Christchurch ended in a gritty draw, highlighted by West Indies’ Justin Greaves‘ heroic 202 in the fourth innings to rescue his side from defeat. New Zealand’s bowlers, led by Duffy’s heroics, exposed West Indies’ batting frailties on a Basin Reserve pitch offering seam movement, marking a stark turnaround from the opener’s shared spoils.

Consider bringing back Sunali's husband, 3 others from Bangladesh: Supreme Court
‘Examine On Humanitarian Grounds’

NEW DELHI: After ascertaining repatriation of a pregnant Sunali Khatun along with her eight-year-old son to India, Supreme Court on Friday asked the Union govt to consider on humanitarian grounds the pleas for bringing back four others, including her husband, who were deported to Bangladesh in June this year.A bench of CJI Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and Vipul M Pancholi was informed by West Bengal’s counsel Kapil Sibal and counsel Sanjay Hegde, who appeared for Sunali’s father Bhodu Sekh, that she is back in India and residing with her father. When the bench asked whether adequate healthcare facilities are being extended to her, the state govt said it is providing her with required medical facilities given her advanced stage of pregnancy. Both Sibal & Hegde requested the court & solicitor general Tushar Mehta to consider bringing back the four others, who were deported along with Sunali to Bangladesh, and claimed that they have every document to prove that they were Indian citizens.Mehta said govt will need time to verify documents. The bench said, “If govt thinks on humanitarian grounds they can be brought back, it can do so. That will be without prejudice to govt’s legal arguments in the case.”The SG drew attention to a report on Friday on Sunali and said publication of such reports was meant to create a narrative, which amounts to influencing public opinion. The CJI-led bench said criticising orders of the court & publishing court proceedings in a case is perfectly fine, but attempting to peddle a narrative through a newspaper publication timed to the date of hearing is avoidable.“There should be no running commentary when a matter is sub-judice. Healthy criticism of a judgment is welcome. But publishing opinions on a sub-judice matter… the author and publisher need to be responsible. We judges are totally immune to what is published in newspapers which we go through only in the evening,” the CJI said.Sibal said, “Globally, comments are made on sub-judice matters in newspapers. It is not a sacrilege if motive is not attributed to the judge.” The CJI said, “Problem arises when distorted and half-baked truth is published. It creates a misapprehension in the minds of people.” Hegde said, “We need to develop thick skin for all these things.” The bench posted the matter for further hearing on Jan 6, when it would consider the plea for repatriation of the other four.

Chennai bank heist twist: Suspended manager dons burqa, drops Rs 1.5cr gold she stole to dodge probe; gets caught again | Chennai News

CHENNAI: The burqa-clad woman who left behind a bag with 1.256kg of gold worth 1.5 crore at a private bank in Velachery on Dec 5 was actually returning what she had stolen from there, police said on Thursday.Police identified her as Padmapriya Srinivasan, 37, a manager at the branch who had been suspended for stealing valuables from lockers. In Nov, she had been arrested for stealing and selling 243.03grams of gold from a locker belonging to an NRI. Subsequently, another customer complained that a gold bar and jewellery had been stolen from her locker at the Velachery branch. Police said that when Padmapriya, who was out on bail, learned of the new investigation, she decided to return the loot to avoid trouble. But she ended up in the police’s hands again as they used CCTV camera footage to trace her to a hostel at Velachery. Around 2.30pm on Dec 5, a burqa-clad woman entered the bank on 100-Feet Road and introduced herself as ‘Fathima’. She made enquiries at the reception desk about a procedure, told the staff that she would return with her husband Muhammad, and exited leaving behind a bag containing the gold. The bank’s deputy vice-president, Ahamed Kadhari, filed a complaint on Dec 10 after the gold remained unclaimed. The bag recovered by police included a one-kg gold bar, a chain and necklace weighing 124.8grams, and two bangles weighing 31.8grams.Upon reviewing CCTV footage from different locations, police identified the woman as Padmapriya, the branch’s former manager and locker in-charge. The police recovered the stolen gold and released Padmapriya after questioning her. Further investigation is on to ascertain the full extent of the fraud.

Bombay high court approves BMC plea for Versova-Bhayander coastal road project impacting 45k mangroves, seeks yearly updates on compensatory afforestation | Mumbai News

Mumbai: The Bombay high court Friday granted permission to BMC for a proposed Coastal Road North—a 26.3 km Versova–Bhayander DP (Development Plan) Road project—that would require a maximum of 45,000-odd mangroves to be felled. The HC was hearing BMC’s plea for the court’s approval for the project since it impacts mangroves. Accepting as salutary a suggestion made by senior counsel Aspi Chinoy for BMC, a division bench of Chief Justice Shree Chandrashekhar and Justice Gautam Ankhad also said it would keep the plea pending for 10 years with the civic body having to file a yearly update on the compensatory tree plantations. The project seeks to provide a crucial link between Mumbai and Mira Bhayander. BMC said 45,675 out of the 60,000 existing mangrove trees on the project land may need to be felled, and three times that number would be required to be planted, apart from a statutory afforestation of 103 hectares proposed in Chandrapur district. The BMC told HC 102 hectares of forest land, largely mangroves, are affected, with the project inevitably impacting 10 hectares of mangroves equivalent to 9,000 actual trees, which would be cut for the actual road construction. In Sept 2024, the mangroves division conducted a site visit and found that the actual area of construction would need over 8 hectares and 4,459 mangrove trees to be permanently destroyed and another 4300 elsewhere but on remaining 68.5 hectares, while 36,925 mangroves would be destroyed they are prepared to be restored there via compensatory planting post the road construction. The proposed road would commence at Versova, run through western suburbs to Dahisar, and then end at Mira Bhayander. It is a continuation of the Coastal Road South, the Worli Bandra Sea Link, both operational, and the under-construction Bandra-Versova Sea Link. Following an earlier HC judgment in a public interest litigation aimed at mangrove conservation, for every project, even if public, that impacts mangroves, the court’s permission is required to be sought. While the conditions usually require afforestation or compensatory planting of trees, three times those cut, and placing the data on the authority’s website, senior counsel Chinoy, himself suggested that an “effective and salutary” solution would be for the HC to keep the matter pending for 10 years and seek a yearly update from the civic body on the trees planted. “This would be better than having data put up on a website which then may remain untracked... Keep the matter pending so that it is alive, under proper supervision… officers having to file reports in court may have a greater responsibility,” said Chinoy assisted by advocate Joel Carlos before the CJ-led bench which agreed. The HC order would be available next week. The HC said on the second Monday of each new year the report be placed by the BMC. To a query from additional govt pleader Prashant Kamble, the bench confirmed such reporting would begin from 2027.The ambitious project, the BMC informed the HC, would reduce the existing almost 2-hour road time between Versova and Mira Bhayandar to less than 20 minutes and reduce travel distance by 10km from 33.6km to 23.2km. The BMC executive engineers, including Jitendra Patil, a techno-legal executive appointed for the project, were present in court. The BMC had applied in Aug 2024 to the MCZMA for the green clearance on the basis of a rapid Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report prepared by the Centre of Envotech and Management Consultancy for the Versova-Bhayander DP Road. The free nod was received last year. On almost 19 hectares, no mangroves would be disturbed, the BMC said. The principal chief conservator of forest mangrove cells has marked 84 hectares of land in Palghar around Boisar, Dahanu and Vasai for mangrove compensation, and the proposal is to plant over 1.3 lakh mangroves, provide a chain link fence, and undertake maintenance for 10 years. The MCZMA, in its reply, said the project is outside any eco-sensitive zone, and the proposed alignment is not affected by any archaeological or heritage site.
