A video surfaced, showing him lying injured at the scene. No arrests had been made till late Sunday. Rs 158-crore loan fraud: Mumbai police file chargesheet against developer for cheating Motilal Oswal Finance Ltd | Mumbai News

Mumbai: Dadar police have chargesheeted a developer for allegedly cheating Motilal Oswal Finance Ltd by selling mortgaged property kept as collateral against a housing project loan of Rs 158 crore acquired nearly a decade ago. While police chargesheeted the director of Karm Infrastructure, Ramakant Jadhav, they have given clean chit to his partner Ketan Patel. In December 2025, police submitted the 500-page chargesheet before the Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate, 5th Court, Sewri, and also sought permission to file a supplementary chargesheet once the absconding accused is arrested. The case dates back to 2014 when Jadhav approached Motilal Oswal Finance, seeking financial assistance for their proposed housing project, Karma Panchayat. Motilal Oswal Finance sanctioned a loan of Rs 158.73 crore, which was disbursed into the company’s bank accounts. To secure the loan, Jadhav mortgaged three properties as collateral — a 4.9-hectare plot at Shilottar in Thane district’s Shahapur valued at Rs 4 crore, a 37,820 sq m plot in Mohili village in Thane’s Kalyan taluka, and one plot in Palghar. All original documents were deposited with Motilal Oswal Finance and a registered guarantee deed, dated Feb 19, 2018, was executed by Jadhav to ensure repayment. The fraud came to light when Motilal Oswal Finance started recovery proceedings after the borrowers defaulted on loan repayments.During a title verification, it was discovered that the 4.9-hectare land parcel at Shilottar had been illegally sold on March 26, 2021, to two buyers — Subhash Bhaskar Dagkher and Ramnath Karbhari Awhad — for Rs 58 lakh.During investigation, police said they obtained documentary evidence from the deputy registrar’s office which confirmed that both the sale and purchase deeds were executed in accordance with the Registration Act. But, it verified that Jadhav allegedly sold the property already pledged to Motilal Oswal Finance.During the probe, Dadar police attempted to serve notices under Section 41(1)(a) of the Criminal Procedure Code at Jadhav’s office and residence addresses in Thane and Dadar. However, the office was shut and the residence demolished, and the accused was untraceable.Further verification through the Naupada police station confirmed that Jadhav’s office had been shut for months and his residence no longer existed. Consequently, Jadhav was declared absconding, and a proclamation under Section 82 of the Criminal Procedure Code and a non-bailable warrant under Section 70 Criminal Procedure Code were issued.

Dharamshala case accused denies ragging; also claims prof named in FIR is innocent

KULLU: One of the three accused women students in the alleged ragging and sexual harassment case at Dharamshala Govt college, in which their 19-year-old classmate died last month on December 26, denied all charges. In a video posted on social media, she claimed that neither of them was involved in ragging nor had witnessed any such harassment occurring in the college.“We were all classmates in BA first year. How is it possible that we ragged our own classmate? Also, we all belong to the Scheduled Caste community and can’t possibly harass someone who belongs to the same caste as we do. I am so puzzled and can’t understand why such allegations were made against me,” the student stated in the video. “We were told by a student that a third-year student ragged her. But that was it, and there was no proof. We knew nothing more than that,” she added. The student further alleged that the deceased was scared of her father, as he was “very strict”. In the video, she also supported the accused associate professor, saying he was innocent and had never made the victim feel uncomfortable. The teachers of the college also came out in support of the associate professor, who was suspended Saturday, two days after a police case was registered against him and the three women students. In a statement, the teachers claimed that the accused professor had an “unblemished record and impeccable integrity” and, as far as “the casteist allegations are concerned, the teacher himself belongs to the OBC category and the claims seem to be far from the truth.Acting on the complaint filed by the deceased student’s father, police registered a case against the accused associate professor and three women students under BNS Sections 75 (sexual harassment), 115(2) (causing hurt), and 3(5) (common intention), and Section 3 of Himachal Pradesh Educational Institution (Prohibition of) Ragging Act 2009.

Population norms stall Tvm Metro DPR submission | Thiruvananthapuram News

T’puram: Submission of revised detailed project report (DPR) for the ambitious Thiruvananthapuram Metro Rail project hit a fresh roadblock, as the implementing agency, Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL), said it cannot proceed until there is clarity on the national population criteria required for metro approval. The project, intended to transform urban mobility in the capital city, was under preparation for several years. The original alignment extending from Pappanamcode to Enchakkal via key hubs such as Medical College, Kazhakkoottam and Akkulam was finalized by state govt, with 27 stations planned along the roughly 31-km route. This includes important points like Technopark, the airport, Thampanoor bus stand, railway station and Secretariat.

Thiruvananthapuram Headlines Today — Key Stories You Shouldn’t Miss.

However, KMRL managing director Loknath Behera told TOI that the revised DPR being prepared by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) will be submitted to state govt only after the agency receives definitive guidance on population criteria mandated by National Metro Rail Policy of 2017. Under that policy, a minimum urban population threshold, often cited as around 20 lakh, is generally expected for a conventional metro project to qualify for central approval, a benchmark that recently stalled similar proposals. “Before we formally submit the DPR, we must be absolutely clear about the population requirement so that the proposal meets all central norms,” Behera said, stressing that procedural compliance is crucial at this stage. Behera acknowledged that previous alignment from Neyyattinkara to Attingal satisfied minimum population criteria better than the current alignment, though he did not specify exact figures. Recent central govt decisions intensified these concerns. In Nov 2025, the Union govt returned the DPRs for the Coimbatore and Madurai Metro projects, explicitly citing non-compliance with population and ridership norms under the 2017 policy. Those cities, based on the 2011 Census, fell short of the minimum population required for metro sanction, prompting the Centre to suggest considering alternative systems like the Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS). According to latest demographic data, Thiruvananthapuram city’s population remains below the typical metro threshold, with 2011 Census figures showing around 16.8 lakh, and updated estimates placing the core urban population at just over 10.5 lakh. However, the broader metropolitan region is projected to have over 23 lakh residents, complicating the criteria assessment. Analysts and urban planners argue that failing to include the wider metropolitan catchment in DPR calculations could undermine the case for metro approval. They note that relying only on the municipal population, without adjacent growth corridors, does not accurately reflect commuter demand. Despite these challenges, state authorities remain optimistic. The chief minister already approved the first-phase alignment and preparatory works, such as flyover construction at Sreekaryam, Ulloor and Pattom, are under way.

ILT20 Final, Desert Vipers vs MI Emirates: Broadcast and Live Streaming details – When and watch in India, USA, UK and other countries

The stage is set for an exciting finale as Desert Vipers face MI Emirates in the ILT20 2025-26 final at the Dubai International Stadium on Sunday, January 4.

For the Desert Vipers, the occasion represents a golden opportunity to clinch their maiden ILT20 title after a dominant campaign. MI Emirates, meanwhile, are chasing their second championship, relying on big-match pedigree and late-season momentum to spoil the Vipers’ party.

Desert Vipers vs MI Emirates: Head-to-Head Record in ILT20

The rivalry between the two finalists has been evenly contested, but Desert Vipers hold a slender advantage. In nine previous meetings, the Vipers lead MI Emirates 5-4, including a commanding 45-run victory in Qualifier 1 on December 30.

That match was defined by a sensational unbeaten 120 from Andries Gous, which dismantled the MI Emirates bowling attack and underlined the Vipers’ batting depth. However, MI Emirates quickly responded to that setback by demolishing Abu Dhabi Knight Riders in Qualifier 2, led by a vintage all-round performance from Kieron Pollard.

Desert Vipers: Consistency, Balance and a shot at history

Under the leadership of Sam Curran, Desert Vipers have been the most consistent side of the season. They finished the league stage at the top of the table with eight wins from ten matches, securing direct qualification to Qualifier 1 and valuable rest ahead of the final.

The Vipers’’batting has been spearheaded by Phil Salt, who leads the team’s run charts with 255 runs. His aggressive starts have frequently set the tone for commanding totals. In the bowling department, Ajay Kumar has been the standout performer, claiming 16 wickets and consistently striking in the middle overs. The pace attack has been further strengthened by the presence of Naseem Shah, whose raw speed and movement make him a constant threat.

Despite their impressive run, memories of last season’s final defeat still linger.

MI Emirates: Kieron Pollard’s experience fuels title push

MI Emirates arrive at the final with a very different journey behind them. Their season began unevenly, managing just two wins from their first five matches. However, the side found rhythm at the perfect time, stringing together five consecutive victories to storm into the playoffs.

Captain Pollard has once again proven his value as a leader in crunch situations. Known for his success across leagues worldwide, Pollard believes experience in high-pressure matches could be decisive. “We’ve lost players but rallied; understanding what wins matters,” he stated after their Qualifier 2 triumph.

MI Emirates’ strength lies in their ability to absorb setbacks and respond with authority. While they stumbled against the Vipers in Qualifier 1, their emphatic rebound showcased the depth and resilience that make them dangerous opponents in a final.

BMC polls in Mumbai: Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray announces support for Independent Dinesh Jadhav against Kirti Somaiya’s son in Mulund ward | Mumbai News

Mumbai: Two days after BJP politician Kirit Somaiya expressed confidence that his son Neil would win the BMC polls a second time as there was no candidate from the main opposition parties against him from Mulund’s Ward No. 107, Shiv Sena (UBT) president Uddhav Thackeray on Sunday declared independent nominee Dinesh Jadhav as the party’s official candidate.Calling Jadhav a hard-core Sainik, Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut said he had filed his nomination as independent as a back-up.“During seat-sharing talks, our ally NCP (SP) had demanded Ward No. 107, saying they have good candidates. Reluctantly, we gave the seat to them…We all decided to stand behind the NCP (SP) candidate, but the ‘unopposed elected scam’ happened in Ward No. 107 too.” The nomination form of NCP (SP) candidate Bharat Vanani was rejected and he was disqualified. “Kirit Somaiya started dancing ‘unopposed, unopposed’ and saying ‘no one is contesting against my son’. But that’s not the case. Our hard-core Shiv Sainik, Dinesh Jadhav, had filled his nomination Ward No. 107. His nomination is valid. Uddhav Thackeray has issued a letter stating that Jadhav is the official Shiv Sena (UBT)-supported candidate from Ward No. 107,” Raut said. “Neil cannot be elected unopposed, he will have to fight with us.“Jadhav was not able to get the Shiv Sena (UBT)’s ‘flaming torch’ symbol. His symbol is a television set,” Raut added. Earlier in the day, Kirit said in a post on X: “It’s official. Election Commission final list of candidates for BMC ward 107 Mulund. Neil Kirit Somaiya – BJP. No candidates of Uddhav Thackeray UBT, Raj Thackeray MNS, Rahul Gandhi Congress, Sharad Pawar NCP.” In 2017, Neil had contested the BMC election from the adjacent Ward No. 108 and won.
