NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi accused the Mamata Banerjee government in poll-bound West Bengal of “misrule”, moments after Maharashtra civic poll results showed big victory for Mahayuti.“I look forward to being among the people of Malda and neighbouring areas during the BJP rally tomorrow. X, formerly Twitter, has suffered a major outage. The massive downtime on Friday (January 16) marks the second time in just three days that Elon Musk-owned social media platform has been knocked offline, rendering thousands of users unable to access posts, photos and videos. According to performance monitoring service Downdetector.com, a huge part of the user base claims issues with the app and website, while others blame server problems. The problems began surfacing at around 8.30 pm with complaints reaching their peak at around 8:45 pm. Incident reports on Downdetector exceeded 74,000 globally while roughly 6,200 originated from India. Members of The Times of India tech team were unable to load new posts and were frequently stuck on a ‘black page’ on both the website and mobile devices. Some were greeted with “Something went wrong. Try reloading”, message.
When it comes to user complaints, 56% of global users reported problems in accessing the app while 39% of affected users struggled with accessing the website. Roughly 10% said they experienced server connection failures and problem related to feed/ timeline, as per Downdetector. X has not issued any public statement regarding the cause of the problems.The January 16 outage is latest in a series of technical faults, following similar widespread disruptions on January 13, in November last year, in October due to Cloudflare, and in July and August, preventing thousands from using the service.This is a developing story…

India’s foreign exchange reserves rose by $392 million to $687.19 billion in the week ended January 9, data released by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) showed on Friday, PTI reported.The increase comes after a sharp decline in the previous reporting week, when the overall reserves had fallen by $9.809 billion to $686.80 billion.According to the RBI, foreign currency assets (FCAs) — the largest component of the reserves — declined by $1.124 billion to $550.866 billion during the week.The central bank clarified that FCAs, when expressed in dollar terms, include the impact of appreciation or depreciation of non-US currencies such as the euro, pound sterling and Japanese yen held in the reserves.Gold reserves, however, provided strong support to the overall kitty, rising by $1.568 billion to $112.83 billion during the reporting period.Special Drawing Rights (SDRs) with the International Monetary Fund declined by $39 million to $18.739 billion, the RBI data showed.India’s reserve position with the IMF also slipped marginally, falling by $13 million to $4.758 billion in the week under review.
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang wants his engineers to spend exactly zero percent of their time writing code. In a recent appearance on the No Priors AI podcast, Huang revealed that every engineer at the $3 trillion chipmaker now uses Cursor, an AI coding assistant, throughout their workday. His goal? Free them entirely from what he calls ‘syntax’ so they can focus on finding and solving problems that haven’t been cracked yet.“Nothing would give me more joy than if none of our engineers were coding at all,” Huang said. “And they were just purely solving undiscovered problems.”This isn’t just philosophical musing. Huang has been pushing a framework he calls ‘Purpose vs Task’ across multiple interviews in recent months, including a viral appearance on The Joe Rogan Experience. The idea is simple: coding is the task, but discovering and solving novel problems is the purpose. AI should handle the former so humans can concentrate on the latter.
Huang points to radiology as proof this approach creates jobs rather than eliminates them. Years ago, AI pioneer Geoffrey Hinton predicted radiologists would be obsolete within five years because computers could scan images faster than humans. Instead, radiologist numbers have grown. The reason, Huang argues, is that reading scans was always just a task—the real purpose is diagnosing disease and improving patient outcomes. When AI took over the grunt work, demand for the human expertise behind it actually expanded.At Nvidia’s recent all-hands meeting, Huang reportedly pushed back hard against managers who were telling teams to dial back AI usage. “Are you insane?” he said, according to Business Insider. Michael Truell, CEO of Cursor itself—the $29 billion startup whose AI tool Nvidia has embraced—recently cautioned against ‘vibe coding,’ where developers let AI build software without reviewing the output. “If you close your eyes and don’t look at the code and have AIs build things with shaky foundations, things start to kind of crumble,” Truell told Fortune’s Brainstorm AI conference.Even Andrej Karpathy, the former Tesla AI director who coined the term ‘vibe coding,’ admitted his recent Nanochat project was “basically entirely hand-written” because AI agents “just didn’t work well enough.” He recently warned fellow programmers: “I’ve never felt this much behind. The profession is being dramatically refactored.”For now, Huang’s betting big that humans who focus on purpose rather than tasks will come out ahead. Whether that bet pays off for the millions of developers who actually write code for a living remains the undiscovered problem.

While assessing Australia’s prospects for the tournament, Chopra pointed out that injuries could prove to be the biggest stumbling block for the reigning T20 giants. Speaking on his YouTube channel, he underlined how a significant portion of the Australian core has struggled with fitness issues in recent times.
Chopra noted that fast bowlers Cummins and Josh Hazlewood have both endured injury setbacks, with Hazlewood missing extended action and Cummins featuring sparingly in the 2025–26 Ashes. The concerns don’t stop there. Cameron Green, Maxwell, and even skipper Marsh have all had their careers punctuated by injury layoffs.
“The biggest weakness I see is that too many players are injury-prone. Josh Hazlewood, Pat Cummins, Cameron Green and Glenn Maxwell are being spoken about. There are too many people. Marsh is himself so injury-prone,” said Chopra on his YouTube channel.
According to Chopra, the issue isn’t about talent or skill but availability. He stressed that Australia are “walking on eggshells,” as one untimely injury could upset team balance and planning. In a tournament as intense as the T20 World Cup, where momentum and continuity matter, frequent changes forced by injuries could be costly.
Chopra further explained that injuries are an uncontrollable factor, making this weakness even more concerning. Unlike form or tactics, fitness issues can strike without warning, leaving teams scrambling for replacements at crucial stages.
“They are walking on eggshells. They are just one injury away from getting everything wrong. So you can definitely call it one of this team’s weaknesses because no one can control injuries,” he observed.

Despite flagging this vulnerability, expectations remain sky-high from Marsh-led unit. NEW DELHI: Indian wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul visited the Mahakaleshwar Temple in Ujjain ahead of the third and final ODI against New Zealand. He went there to seek the blessings of Lord Shiva before the series decider at the Holkar Stadium in Indore on Sunday.During his visit, Rahul offered prayers at the Mahakal Temple, which is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva. He also performed ritual worship of Nandi. The visit was calm and devotional, away from the pressure of international cricket.
This was not Rahul’s first visit to the temple. He has been there several times in the past.Before the start of IPL 2024, Rahul visited the temple with his parents after attending the Bhasma Aarti. He prayed for success in the tournament. He had also visited the Mahakal Temple with his wife Athiya Shetty before the Indore Test in 2023.On the field, Rahul is in excellent form in the ongoing ODI series against New Zealand. The 33-year-old played a brilliant knock in the second match of the series. He scored a magnificent hundred and remained unbeaten on 112. His innings included 11 fours and one six. He looked confident and in control throughout his stay at the crease.
However, Rahul’s effort was not enough to secure a win for India. New Zealand chased down the target successfully and won the match by seven wickets. Daryl Mitchell scored a century and guided his team to victory.
