IND vs NZ: Pitch Report for 3rd T20I, Barsapara Cricket Stadium Stats and Records

India enter the third encounter in Guwahati with a commanding 2-0 lead in the five-match series. After a high-scoring 48-run blitz in Nagpur and a clinical seven-wicket victory in Raipur, the Men in Blue are one win away from sealing the trophy. For Mitchell Santner’s New Zealand, this is a must-win “do or die” battle to keep the series alive before heading to Visakhapatnam.

With the T20 World Cup 2026 starting next month, India is using this series as a final dress rehearsal. The emergence of Abhishek Sharma as a powerhouse at the top and the return of Ishan Kishan have bolstered an already formidable batting lineup led by Suryakumar Yadav.

IND vs NZ 3rd T20I: Probable Playing XI

India: Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson (wk), Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav (c), Hardik Pandya, Rinku Singh, Axar Patel (vc), Varun Chakravarthy, Kuldeep Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh.

New Zealand: Finn Allen, Devon Conway (wk), Rachin Ravindra, Daryl Mitchell, Glenn Phillips, Mark Chapman, Mitchell Santner (c), Michael Bracewell, Kristian Clarke, Ish Sodhi, Kyle Jamieson.

Barsapara Cricket Stadium Pitch Report

The pitch at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium is a traditional batting paradise, characterized by its flat surface and hard, red soil that offers true bounce and carry. While the initial few overs might provide seamers with some swing due to the evening moisture and light grass cover, the track quickly settles into a “belter,” rewarding stroke-play and aggressive intent. Short boundaries and a lightning-fast outfield further tilt the scales in favour of a high-scoring encounter. However, the most decisive factor will be the significant evening dew, which makes the ball slippery and difficult for spinners to grip, often making chasing the preferred tactical choice.

BlackRock CEO ends WEF 2026 with a quote from Elon Musk: It is better to be an optimist and wrong, than being …

The five-day annual meeting of the World Economic Forum (WEF) ended on Friday, January 23. As many as 64 heads of state or government attended the event at Davos, Switzerland. The 56th Annual Meeting of the World Economic Forum convened leaders from government, business, civil society and academia under the theme “A Spirit of Dialogue”, against the most complex geopolitical backdrop in decades. In the closing remarks, Larry Fink, Interim Co-Chair, World Economic Forum, and CEO, BlackRock, quoted Tesla CEO Elon Musk. “It’s better for your quality of life to be an optimist who’s wrong than a pessimist who’s right,” said Fink, quoting Musk. Elon Musk marked his debut at WEF 2026 with a critique of US solar tariffs and aggressive targets for Tesla, including humanoid robot sales next year, as well as flagging European approval for self-driving tech within weeks. After years of describing the World Economic Forum’s annual meeting as elitist, unaccountable and disconnected from ordinary people, the world’s richest man was interviewed by Larry Fink. The BlackRock CEO expressed his admiration for Musk at the start of the wide-ranging discussion, which covered the future of robots and AI, the economic benefits of reusable rockets and Musk’s childhood fascination with science fiction. As per WEF 2026 release, the event was attended by close to 3,000 leaders from across regions, sectors and generations from 130 countries, including a record 400 top political leaders, a majority of G7 leaders, close to 830 of the world’s top CEOs and chairs, and almost 80 leading unicorns and technology pioneers. “This is a moment of uncertainty, but also possibility; not a moment to retreat, but a moment to engage,” WEF President and CEO Borge Brende said at the closing session.“This year, Davos has reached a new level. Not only was it the intended platform for dialogue, but it also marked turning points and drove decisions,” WEF’s Interim Co-Chair and Roche Holding Vice Chairman Andre Hoffmann said.

Tech leaders at WEF 2026

AI and emerging technologies are fundamentally transforming every industry sector and the global labour market, driving profound changes in skill requirements and entire professions across both advanced and emerging economies. CEOs across regions highlighted practical strategies for deploying AI on complex, mission-critical tasks and for driving long-term transformation, looking at actionable insights on how to redesign capabilities, decision-making and operating models to unlock AI’s full enterprise value.“I would advocate for the developing countries: build your infrastructure, get engaged in AI and recognize that AI is likely to close the technology divide,” said Jensen Huang, Chief Executive Officer, Nvidia.“Right now, the Zeitgeist is a little bit about the admiration for AI in its abstract form or as a technology,” said Satya Nadella, Chairman and CEO, Microsoft. “But, I think we as a global community have to get to a point where we’re using this to do something useful that changes the outcomes of people and communities and countries and industries.”“The capability overhang [of AI] is massive,” said Sarah Friar, Chief Financial Officer, Open AI OpCo. “Even if models [did not improve at all] from today, there is still so much productivity to be had just with what’s in people’s hands.”

New Zealand Under-19 9/2 in 5.5 Overs

India vs New Zealand Live Score, U19 World Cup 2026: Ayush Mhatre-led India registered a thrilling 18-run win over Bangladesh after the second innings was reduced to 29 overs due to rain in the seventh match of the ongoing ICC U19 World Cup 2026 on Saturday.

With this victory, India notched up their second consecutive win in the tournament. Earlier, the Mhatre-led side had defeated the USA in their opening fixture.

For his superb bowling performance, India’s Vihaan Malhotra was named Player of the Match.

Bangladesh began their chase on a poor note, losing opener Zawad Abrar for just five runs in the very first over. Abrar was dismissed by Deepesh Devendran.

MD Rifat Beg and Md Azizul Hakim Tamim then stabilised the innings as Bangladesh reached 30/1 in four overs. At the end of 10 overs, the score read 54/1.

On the fifth ball of the 12th over, Kanishk Chouhan removed Rifat Beg for a run-a-ball 37, which included four boundaries and a six. Rain interrupted play during the 18th over, and the match was reduced to a 29-over contest, with Bangladesh set a revised target of 165 via the DLS method.

After the resumption, Bangladesh crossed the 100-run mark in the 20th over. Vihaan Malhotra struck again, dismissing Kalam Siddiki Aleen for 15 on the second ball of the 22nd over.

Azizul Hakim Tamim brought up his fifty off 70 deliveries on the first ball of the 24th over. However, Malhotra removed Sheikh Paevez Jibon for seven on the fifth delivery of the same over, leaving Bangladesh at 125/4.

Khilan Patel then claimed the key wicket of Tamim for 51 in the very next over. Following his dismissal, Bangladesh collapsed, losing Samiun Basir Ratul (2), Farid Hasan Faysal (1), Al Fahad (0) and Md Rizan Hossan (15) in quick succession to slump to 146/9 in 28 overs.

Henil Patel dismissed the final batter, Iqbal Hossain Emon (2), as India sealed a thrilling 18-run victory in the rain-affected encounter.

Bangladesh were bowled out for 146 in 28.3 overs. For India, Vihaan Malhotra produced magical figures of 4/14 in four overs. Khilan Patel picked up two wickets, while Kanishk Chouhan, Henil Patel and Deepesh Devendran claimed one wicket each.

Earlier, half-centuries from opener Vaibhav Suryavanshi and Abhinav Kundu helped India post a competitive total of 238 against Bangladesh.

After Bangladesh won the toss and opted to field, a controversial moment unfolded when Indian captain Ayush Mhatre and Bangladesh vice-captain Zawad Abrar avoided the customary handshake, drawing attention amid the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2026 issues between the BCCI and BCB.

India suffered early setbacks, losing captain Mhatre for six and Vedant Trivedi for a golden duck in the third over bowled by Al Fahad. In the eighth over, Suryavanshi smashed 15 runs off Iqbal Hossain Emon as India reached 42/2.

The 14-year-old Suryavanshi brought up his fifty in just 30 deliveries during the 13th over. At 14 years and 296 days, he also became the youngest player to score a fifty-plus total at a Men’s U19 World Cup.

India reached 94/3 at the end of 20 overs. On the second ball of the 27th over, Iqbal Hossain Emon broke the crucial 62-run stand between Suryavanshi and Abhinav Kundu.

Iqbal dismissed Suryavanshi for 72 off 67 deliveries, an innings that included six fours and three sixes. The knock also made him the seventh Indian batter to score 1,000 or more runs in Youth ODIs.

India continued to lose wickets as Iqbal removed Harvansh Pangalia for two in the 29th over, leaving India struggling at 123/5.

Kundu and Kanishk Chouhan then steadied the innings, taking India to 152/5 by the end of the 33rd over. However, Azizul Hakim Tamim broke their 54-run partnership by dismissing Chouhan for 28 off 26 balls, including four boundaries, in the 36th over.

Kundu brought up his fifty in 82 deliveries as India reached 184/6 in 37 overs. Rain again interrupted play after the 39th over, eventually reducing the match to 49 overs per side.

Following the resumption, Sheikh Paevez Jibon dismissed RS Ambrish for five as India crawled to 194/7 in 40 overs.

Al Fahad ended Kundu’s resistance on the final ball of the 47th over. The batter played a fighting knock of 80 off 112 deliveries, which included four boundaries and three sixes.

India were eventually bowled out for 238 in 48.4 overs, with Al Fahad claiming a superb five-wicket haul. He finished with figures of 5/38 in 9.2 overs.

Suspect Vijay Kumar with wife Meenu Dogra (Picture credit: Facebook/Meenu Dogra)

An Indian national was among four people killed in a shooting linked to an alleged family dispute in the US state of Georgia, authorities and the Indian consulate in Atlanta said. The incident took place in Lawrenceville city, where police responded to reports of “shots fired” at a residence. Four people were found inside the home with gunshot wounds and were pronounced dead at the scene.According to local reports, three children — aged seven, 10 and 12 — were inside the house when the shooting took place. The children hid in a closet to protect themselves, and the 12-year-old managed to call 911, enabling officers to reach the location within minutes. The children were not injured and have since been placed in the care of a family member.

Who is the suspect?

Police identified the suspect as Vijay Kumar, 51, a resident of Atlanta. He has been charged with four counts each of aggravated assault, felony murder and malice murder, along with one count of first-degree cruelty to children and two counts of third-degree cruelty to children. The victims were identified as Kumar’s wife, Meenu Dogra, 43, of Atlanta, and three relatives — Gourav Kumar, 33, Nidhi Chander, 37, and Harish Chander, 38 — all residents of Lawrenceville.

Investigators said an argument began between Kumar and Dogra at their home in Atlanta, after which they travelled with their 12-year-old child to a residence on Brook Ivy Court, where the other three victims lived with two children.“It is unknown at this time what the argument was about, why they came to the residence, or what led up to the incident,” Gwinnett County Police Corporal Angela Carter said.“It’s definitely a tragic situation — four people dying at the same time, especially with children in the home, is very, very tragic,” she added.

India Women name squad for the one-off Test against Australia; Pratika Rawal and Vaishnavi Sharma get maiden call-up

India Women are set for a high-stakes tour of Australia, with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) unveiling a 15-member Test squad that blends experience with fresh promise. The multi-format series, beginning on February 15, will feature three T20Is, three ODIs, and culminate in a one-off Test match at the WACA in Perth from March 6 to 9. With Australia being one of the toughest destinations to tour, the selection signals India’s intent to build depth while keeping an eye on the future of women’s Test cricket.

Led by Harmanpreet Kaur, with Smriti Mandhana as her deputy, the squad reflects continuity in leadership and a calculated gamble on emerging talent.

New faces set for potential Test debuts

The biggest talking point from the selection is the inclusion of Pratika Rawal, who has not featured in competitive cricket since her breakout run at the 2025 Women’s ODI World Cup. Rawal finished as the fourth-highest run-scorer in that tournament, amassing 308 runs in six innings. Her campaign was cut short by an ankle injury, forcing her to miss the knockout stages, but not before she made a strong impression with two fifty-plus scores, including one against Australia. Her opening partnership with Mandhana stood out as one of India’s biggest positives during the title-winning run.

Also in line for a potential Test debut is 20-year-old left-arm spinner Vaishnavi Sharma. Having broken into international cricket only in December last year, Vaishnavi has impressed the team management with her courage to flight the ball, even in the risk-heavy white-ball formats. Despite Australian conditions traditionally favouring pace over spin, India appear keen to invest in a spinner who is unafraid to attack.

Alongside Rawal and Vaishnavi, seamers Kranti Gaud and Sayali Satghare, as well as all-rounder Amanjot Kaur, add to a list of players who could gain valuable red-ball exposure on the tour.

Core lineup largely intact

While new faces add intrigue, the core of India’s batting remains largely unchanged from the side that last played a Test, against South Africa in June 2024. Experience will once again be central, with Mandhana, Jemimah Rodrigues, and Shafali Varma forming the backbone of the batting order.

Rodrigues, in particular, brings fond memories of Australia, having scored a match-defining century that knocked the hosts out of the ODI World Cup. Her familiarity with conditions, along with Harmanpreet and Mandhana’s extensive Women’s Big Bash League experience, will be crucial in countering Australia’s home advantage.

In the bowling department, Renuka Singh remains the only capped Test pacer, but she will be supported by a versatile pace group that offers variety and athleticism. Uma Chetry has been named as the backup wicketkeeper to Richa Ghosh across formats, with G Kamalini ruled out.

India squad for the one-off  Test against Australia

Harmanpreet Kaur (captain), Smriti Mandhana (vice-captain), Shafali Varma, Jemimah Rodrigues, Amanjot Kaur, Richa Ghosh (wk), Uma Chetry (wk), Pratika Rawal, Harleen Deol, Deepti Sharma, Renuka Singh, Sneh Rana, Kranti Gaud, Vaishnavi Sharma, Sayali Satghare

‘Didn’t violate Congress position’: Shashi Tharoor breaks silence amid rift buzz; defends stand on Operation Sindoor | India News

'Didn't violate Congress position': Shashi Tharoor breaks silence amid rift buzz; defends stand on Operation Sindoor
Shashi Tharoor (PTI photo)

NEW DELHI: Congress MP Shashi Tharoor on Saturday clarified that he has never violated the party line in Parliament, asserting that his only public disagreement in principle was over Operation Sindoor, when he led India’s delegation to countries in the Americas to present New Delhi’s position on counterterrorism and Pakistan’s role in terrorism.Responding to questions at the Kerala Literature Festival, Tharoor, as quoted by news agency PTI, said he had taken a strong stand on the issue and remained “unapologetic.”He said, “I have at no stage violated any of the Congress’ positions in Parliament; the only issue on which there has been public disagreement on principle is about Operation Sindoor where I did take a very strong stand, and I remain unapologetic about that.”His remarks come amid recent reports highlighting “Tharoor’s differences with the party leadership,” with speculation that he is upset over Congress leader Rahul Gandhi not adequately acknowledging him at a recent event in Kochi, as well as over alleged repeated attempts by state leaders to sideline him.The senior Congress leader skipped a key party meeting with the state leadership and the AICC high command on Friday ahead of the Kerala assembly polls. This was followed by reactions from party colleagues, including Sandeep Dixit, who said the Thiruvananthapuram MP was no longer “relevant” to the party.Explaining his position, Tharoor said that as an observer and writer, he had penned a newspaper column after the Pahalgam incident, arguing that the attack should not go unpunished and calling for a kinetic response. He said that while India remains focused on development, it should not be drawn into a prolonged conflict with Pakistan, and that any action should be limited to targeting terrorist camps.Tharoor added that he was surprised to see the government act in line with what he had suggested.Referring to Jawaharlal Nehru, Tharoor recalled the former prime minister’s famous question: “Who lives if India dies?”“When India is at stake—when its security and its place in the world are involved—India comes first,” he said.He added that while political parties may differ as part of the democratic process, national interest must always prevail over political differences. On the partyline differences, Tharoor also recalled the time when BJP came into power in 2014 and said, “It was even reported that the RSS ideologue Govindacharya was writing the draft of a new constitution. And yet the Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that the constitution was his holy book.”
