South Korean man’s murder: ‘Wanted to leave flat, he said he would kill me,’ says woman who stabbed boyfriend in Noida | Noida News

NOIDA: Drinks, shopping and dinner at a Korean restaurant — Saturday began on a romantic note for Lum Jianna and her South Korean live-in partner Duck Hea Yuh. It, however, did not end well.Hours later, Yuh (47) lay dead at Govt Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS), stabbed by 22-year-old Jianna after an altercation over his drinking habits.

Noida Headlines Today — The Biggest Updates You Need to Know.

According to police, Jianna, arrested for the alleged murder, has told interrogators that she attacked Yuh after he allegedly threatened to kill her when she said she would leave the flat that they shared at ATS Pious Hideways in Sector 150 if did not mend his drinking habits.Yuh, who worked with a logistics company in Greater Noida for the past 10 years, continued to drink after they returned home around 11pm. The spat between the two began when Yuh refused to go off to sleep even at 3am.“Jianna told us she was frustrated with Yuh’s excessive drinking. When he continued to drink till early morning, Jianna told him she would leave the flat if he did not change his ways. The woman alleged Yuh became aggressive, picked up a knife from the dining table and threatened to kill her if she tried to leave,” the officer said.A heated argument followed. As it snowballed into a physical fight, Jianna allegedly picked up the knife and stabbed him repeatedly in the chest. As Yuh slumped to the ground, Jianna panicked and rushed downstairs, according to cops.“She claimed she asked people for help, but could not express herself properly. So, she called two of Yuh’s colleagues — a driver and an accountant — and took Yuh to GIMS along with them,” the officer said.By the time they reached GIMS, Yuh had died. “When his girlfriend came to know about his death, she quietly left the hospital without informing anyone,” the officer said. On Sunday morning, police received information about Yuh’s death from the hospital.According to police sources, Jianna accused Yuh of thrashing her almost every day, often over “trivial matters”. Yuh’s colleagues, police said, also corroborated there were earlier instances of the two fighting and Jianna leaving the Sector 150 flat.“She said she did not intend to kill him. Jianna first claimed Yuh slipped and accidentally fell on the knife. But the wounds clearly indicated a stabbing rather than a fall. Later, she admitted to the murder,” the officer said.Yuh, who was from Cheongju-si in South Korea, had met Jianna of Bishnupur in Manipur two years ago at a party in Gurgaon. They entered into a live-in relationship soon after. As Jianna was unemployed, Yuh apparently paid her a monthly amount. A FIR was filed against Jianna under Section 103(1) (murder) of the BNS at Knowledge Park station. She was produced before a court on Monday, and remanded in judicial custody.According to cops, an autopsy was conducted in the presence of South Korean embassy officials after Yuh’s family members refused to come. The body was also handed over to the embassy for further proceedings.“We have initiated an investigation into the sequence of events that led to the murder,” the officer said.

‘He’s number 1’: Dale Steyn expresses anger over pacer’s exclusion from South Africa’s T20 World Cup 2026 squad

As the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 approaches, South Africa have officially unveiled their 15-member squad, aiming to finally secure their first global title. Led by Aiden Markram, the selection features a heavy emphasis on raw pace, but the inclusion of stars like Kagiso Rabada and Anrich Nortje has been overshadowed by a major selection controversy.

South African legend Dale Steyn has publicly voiced his frustration over the exclusion of a certain in-form pacer, leading to a heated debate across social media. While the Proteas have opted for high-velocity options, the absence of one of the most consistent performers in the domestic circuit has left fans and experts questioning the team’s balance. This decision is particularly shocking given the bowler’s record-breaking run in the ongoing SA20 season.

Dale Steyn fumes over pacer’s omission from South Africa’s T20 World Cup 2026 squad

On January 6, 2026, Steyn took to X (formerly Twitter) to express his disbelief at the snub of Ottneil Baartman, a player he mentored as a bowling coach for three seasons at Sunrisers Eastern Cape. Steyn argued that Baartman has evolved into “one of SA’s best white-ball bowlers” and that his omission is impossible to justify given his current form. “He’s the highest wicket-taker in SA20, won the league twice and made a final… That’s a comp that has 4 international players plus all the Proteas! He’s number 1,” Steyn tweeted. The legendary pacer emphasized that while Baartman is delivering “top quality” performances against the world’s best batters, he will unfairly be “sitting home” during the marquee tournament in India and Sri Lanka.

Steyn’s endorsement centered on Baartman’s unique ability to execute pinpoint yorkers and variations that set him apart from the ‘raw speed’ bowlers favored by the selectors. He pointed out that Baartman’s tactical execution makes him virtually unplayable in the death overs, a phase where the Proteas have historically struggled. Steyn’s post sparked a massive reaction from the cricketing community, with many agreeing that the selection panel, led by Patrick Moroney, may have prioritized reputation over recent statistical dominance. By labeling Baartman the country’s best, Steyn has put immense pressure on the chosen pace attack to justify their inclusion when the tournament kicks off next month.

Unrivaled domestic dominance for the excluded pacer

The numbers certainly support Steyn’s outrage, as Baartman has officially become the leading wicket-taker in SA20 history during the 2025-26 season. Now playing for the Paarl Royals, Baartman has already claimed 11 wickets in just four matches at a remarkable average of 12.27, recently surpassing Marco Jansen to take the top spot with 52 career wickets in the competition. His international record is equally impressive; since his T20I debut in May 2024, the 32-year-old has taken 22 wickets in 17 matches at an average of 21.59. Despite being a key part of the squad that reached the World Cup final 2024, he has featured in only 11 of South Africa’s last 29 matches, a trend that has now culminated in a total exclusion from the 2026 global showpiece.

India–US trade row: Donald Trump claims PM Modi ‘not that happy’ with steep tariffs; flags delays in Apache helicopter delivery

India–US trade row: Donald Trump claims PM Modi ‘not that happy’ with steep tariffs; flags delays in Apache helicopter delivery

US President Donald Trump has said Prime Minister Narendra Modi is “not that happy” with him because of the tariffs Washington has imposed on India over its purchases of Russian oil, linking trade pressure directly to New Delhi’s energy ties with Moscow.Speaking at the House GOP Member Retreat, Trump referred to his interactions with the Indian leader while discussing US defence sales and tariffs. He claimed India had raised concerns over delays in receiving US military hardware and said the issue was now being addressed. “India ordered 68 Apaches,” Trump said, adding that India had told him it had been waiting for five years for the helicopters, as per PTI.During his remarks, Trump said he shared a good relationship with Modi but acknowledged the strain caused by tariffs. “He’s not that happy with me because, you know, they’re paying a lot of tariffs now because they’re not doing the oil, but they are — they’ve now reduced it very substantially, as you know, from Russia,” Trump said, according to PTI.Trump has imposed a 50 per cent tariff on India, which includes a 25 per cent levy linked specifically to India’s purchases of Russian oil, PTI reported. He also used the platform to defend his tariff policy more broadly, claiming the US was benefiting financially from the measures. The comments come amid repeated warnings from Trump to New Delhi over its continued oil trade with Russia. Earlier, Trump said the US could raise tariffs further if India does not “help on the Russian oil issue,” directly tying the threat to the Russia–Ukraine war.He has accused India of strengthening Moscow by buying discounted Russian crude and has cited this as the reason for sharply higher duties on Indian goods.Trump has also portrayed the tariff pressure as a tool to influence India’s behaviour, saying New Delhi knew he was unhappy and wanted to keep trade relations on track. At the same time, he has sought to position himself as a potential mediator in the Russia–Ukraine conflict, holding talks with both Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, though without any concrete breakthrough.India, for its part, has previously rejected Trump’s claim that PM Modi had assured him New Delhi would stop buying Russian oil, clarifying that no such conversation took place.

Europe sees red over Greenland as Trump aide asserts it belongs to US

Europe sees red over Greenland as Trump aide asserts it belongs to US

TOI correspondent from Washington: Hours after top Trump aide Stephen Miller audaciously asserted US “right” over Greenland, leaders of eight European nations on Tuesday stood up for Denmark and its self-governing constituent, bringing the 75-year old transatlantic alliance to a crossroad.“Greenland belongs to its people. It is for Denmark and Greenland, and them only, to decide on matters concerning Denmark and Greenland,” leaders of France, Germany, Italy, Poland, Spain, Denmark and the U.K said in a rare joint statement, pushing back at the US position.

‘End Of NATO’: Denmark ‘SURRENDERS’ Greenland To U.S. As PM Admits Trump Serious About Takeover?

In stunning remarks on CNN on Tuesday, White House Deputy Chief of Staff and Trump immigration czar Stephen Miller questioned Denmark’s right to Greenland, while asserting that it is the formal position of the Trump administration that the long-recognized Danish realm should be part of the United States.“By what right does Denmark assert control over Greenland? What is the basis of their territorial claim? The United States is the power of Nato . For the US to secure the Arctic region, to protect and defend Nato and Nato interests, obviously Greenland should be part of the United States,” Miller said. The Trump aide repeatedly rebuffed the host’s question if he could take the military option off the table, scoffing at Greenland’s 30,000 population and asserting “We wouldn’t need military action…nobody is gonna fight the US militarily over the future of Greenland.”Indeed, the European statement, while pushing back at US claims, was not exactly muscular, preferring to remind Washington of mutual Nato obligations to defend the Arctic. It said that security in the Arctic must be achieved collectively with Nato allies, including the United States, by upholding the principles of the UN Charter, including sovereignty, territorial integrity and the inviolability of border, adding “These are universal principles, and we will not stop defending them.“Nato has made clear that the Arctic region is a priority and European allies are stepping up. We and many other allies have increased our presence, activities and investments, to keep the Arctic safe and to deter adversaries. The Kingdom of Denmark—including Greenland—is part of Nato ,” the statement said.Individually, European leaders have made stronger statements. Denmark’s Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen has said any US invasion of Greenland would spell an end to Nato , and Germany’s foreign minister Johann Wadephul has warned that the United States will be at war with Europe if it grabs Greenland, asserting Nato members will have an obligation to defend Denmark if it was attacked by the US. “Greenland is part of the Kingdom of Denmark. And since Denmark is a member of Nato , Greenland will, in principle, also be subject to Nato defence,” he said. Greenland, a Danish colony from 1721 until 1953, is now an autonomous constituent country within the Kingdom of Denmark, locked in a relationship known as the Rigsfællesskab or “Unity of the Realm.”While it is largely self-governing, Denmark controls Foreign Affair, Defense & National Security, and Monetary Policy. No administration before Trump’s had challenged this arrangement. Miller faced questions on the Trump White House position on Greenland after his wife, also a former White House staffer, posted on social media map of Greenland draped in US colors with the word “Soon” – soon after the US infiltration into Venezuela and its abduction of President Nicolas Maduro. The answers were a cold, chilling assertion of US “right” over Greenland that seemed to answer the question now raging across global capitals: Who’s next?

‘Silly to underestimate them’: New Zealand skipper backs Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli for 2027 ODI World Cup | Cricket News

'Silly to underestimate them': New Zealand skipper backs Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli for 2027 ODI World Cup

New Zealand captain Michael Bracewell has played down any talk of India’s senior stars being on the wane, stressing that Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma remain forces to be reckoned with in ODI cricket. Ahead of the upcoming series, Bracewell said it would be “silly to underestimate” the experienced duo and expressed confidence that both will still be central figures at next year’s ODI World Cup. Kohli and Rohit, now active only in the ODI format for India, are set to return to action in the three-match series starting Sunday in Vadodara, followed by games in Rajkot on January 14 and Indore on January 18. With Mitchell Santner, Tom Latham and Rachin Ravindra unavailable, Bracewell will lead the New Zealand side on the tour.

India can survive without Virat and Rohit, not without Bumrah

“I’d like to see them play in the World Cup. They’re obviously still playing very good cricket so there’s no reason to stop,” Bracewell said while speaking to the media on the sidelines of the New Zealand Cricket Golf Day at the Willingdon Sports Club. “They’re both playing beautifully, so why not? Their records speak for themselves, both individually and as a team. They’ve been involved in some great Indian sides and led that side with the bat. You’d be silly to underestimate them, that’s for sure,” Bracewell added. Addressing the absence of senior players such as Santner, Bracewell admitted the challenge of filling key roles. “Whenever you’re missing players of say, Mitch Santner’s calibre, you’re always going to be struggling to replace them. You’re never going to be able to replace a guy like that. But if everyone mucks in and does their bit, then hopefully we can all work together and achieve great things on this tour.” Despite the T20 World Cup being just over a month away, Bracewell stressed the relevance of the ODI series. “You have to be where your feet are and take care of what’s in front of you. We’ve obviously got an important one-day series coming up against India,” Bracewell said, highlighting the value of extended time in Indian conditions.
