Amazon wants 80% of its developers to use AI for coding at least once a week, but there’s one condition

Amazon wants 80% of its developers to use AI for coding at least once a week, but there's one condition

Amazon is pushing hard to make AI-assisted coding an everyday habit across the company. The target is clear—80 per cent of developers should be using AI for coding tasks at least once a week, according to the Financial Times. But the company isn’t leaving the choice of tool up to its engineers. It wants them on Kiro, its in-house AI coding assistant that launched in July 2025, and it’s actively discouraging everything else.An internal memo viewed by Reuters last November laid it out plainly: “We do not plan to support additional third-party AI development tools.” The memo, signed by two senior VPs—Peter DeSantis of AWS utility computing and Dave Treadwell of eCommerce Foundation—named Kiro as Amazon’s “recommended AI-native development tool.” OpenAI‘s Codex was flagged as “Do Not Use” after a six-month review. Anthropic’s Claude Code briefly got the same tag before the designation was reversed.A spokesperson told Business Insider that about 70 per cent of Amazon’s software engineers used Kiro at least once in January. The company wants to push that number higher—and fast.

Engineers aren’t thrilled—1,500 of them backed Claude Code instead

Not everyone is on board. Around 1,500 Amazon employees endorsed the formal adoption of Claude Code in an internal forum discussion, Business Insider reported. Many argued it was simply the better tool. “A tool that can’t keep pace with rivals offers no real innovation,” one employee wrote, adding that Kiro’s “only survival mechanism becomes forced adoption rather than genuine value.”The frustration is sharpest among AWS sales engineers who are tasked with selling Claude Code to customers through Amazon’s Bedrock platform—while being barred from using it for their own production work. “Customers will ask why they should trust or use a tool that we did not approve for internal use,” one of them wrote. Amazon maintains there’s no outright ban on Claude Code but says it applies “stricter requirements” for production tools. What makes this especially complicated is that Amazon has invested $8 billion in Anthropic, the company behind Claude Code, and signed a $38 billion cloud computing deal with OpenAI, whose Codex tool it also restricts internally.

Jassy’s bigger play: $200 billion in AI spending, 30,000 fewer jobs

The Kiro push is one piece of a much larger AI transformation under CEO Andy Jassy. He has told staff that AI-driven efficiency gains will shrink Amazon’s corporate workforce over time, and the numbers back that up. The company has cut 30,000 corporate roles since October 2025—the biggest reduction in its history—while committing a record $200 billion in capital expenditure this year, most of it directed at AI infrastructure and data centres, the Financial Times reported.Even as Amazon bets everything on its own AI tools, some of its own engineers aren’t convinced. Several told the Financial Times they preferred Anthropic’s Claude over Amazon’s Nova models for coding. One AWS engineer put it bluntly to FT: “I didn’t even know we had a model.”

'To people like him, woman nothing more than body': Congress MP Jothimani flays BJP leader Senthil Nathan for 'derogatory' remarks
Congress MP Jothimani, left, and Karur BJP District President V V Senthil Nathan

NEW DELHI: Congress MP Jothimani on Tuesday slammed alleged remarks by Karur BJP district president V V Senthil Nathan against her, saying he views her as “just as woman, a body, a sexual object. The Karur Town Police have registered a case against Senthil Nathan over the remarks, which were allegedly made during a protest held on February 10 in front of the Head Post Office in Karur by the BJP women’s wing. The demonstration was organised to condemn what party leaders described as injustices against women under the “lawless DMK regime,” and was attended by BJP state secretary Amar Prasad Reddy, former MP Karvendhan and more than 300 party workers.According to police, during his speech, “District President Nathan allegedly made indecent and derogatory remarks about Karur Member of Parliament Jothi Mani, in a manner said to be insulting to womanhood and intended to disturb public peace,” as quoted by ANI.Based on a complaint lodged by Karur District Congress President Ramesh, the Karur Town Police have registered a case against BJP District President Senthil Nathan under five sections of the law, police said.Calling Senthil Nathan’s remarks a reflection of what BJP and RSS have taught him, Jothimani told ANI, “These are very disgusting and obscene remarks against me. It is the worst form of abuse. No woman should have to go through something like this. I was shocked.”“According to this person’s worldview, my knowledge, merit, hard work, commitment, and ideology are nothing. I am just a woman, a body, a sexual object. This is what the RSS and BJP taught him. His statements reflect his party’s ideologies and thought processes. This has been used as a weapon against all those women who speak their mind fearlessly, who speak truth to power, and refuse to be silent,” she added.Congress MP Manickam Tagore also issued a statement on X condemning the remarks and demanding action against the BJP functionary. “This is not an isolated outburst — it reflects the toxic RSS-BJP mindset that normalises misogyny and personal attacks on women in public life. When such language is repeatedly used by party functionaries — from the State President yesterday to the District President today in “New India “— the silence of Prime Minister @NarendraModi becomes telling.”

Ishan Kishan 2.0: The method behind the mayhem | Cricket News

Ishan Kishan 2.0: The method behind the mayhem

Meaningful return to domestic cricket benefitted southpaw after axe from India set-up in 2023The Times of India in Colombo: With a day to go for the clash against India, the entire discussion around the Pakistani contingent at the Premadasa Stadium was around the fitness of Abhishek Sharma. They forgot a name in the process — Ishan Kishan.Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW!While Abhishek has been the crazy diamond of this Indian top-order, Kishan returned from a two-year international exile looking like a rocket-launcher that is ready to destroy anything in its vicinity.

T20 World Cup: India humiliate Pakistan again

The cobwebs of the mind that had affected Ishan when he was dropped and later axed from the contracts list, seem to have been cleared. Ishan looks hungry and fearless, but there’s a method in his approach that is making the wicketkeeper-batter stand out. Those who know Ishan closely indicate that it has a lot to do with channelizing his thoughts in the right direction, and that has made a lot of difference. First off, he has gone back to playing First Class cricket and wants to play Test cricket for India again. He played most of the matches for Jharkhand in this Ranji season, which helped him get the basics of his game right once more. That was followed by his conquests in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy and the Vijay Hazare Trophy, which brought him right back into contention. It helped Ishan’s cause that Shubman Gill’s T20 form dropped and Sanju Samson became very patchy with the bat. It’s not that Ishan wasn’t a serious threat with the bat in his ‘first innings’. Let’s not forget, he had scored a superb 82 against Pakistan in the 2023 Asia Cup in SSC after a top-order wobble in a game that was eventually washed out. He was there in India’s ODI World Cup side as well, but once he was dropped from the playing XI, things went south for him very fast.

Ishan Kishan

Sunday’s 40-ball 77 wasn’t just a case of one good day in the office, a lot of thought and hard work had gone into it. The chief difference between the two Ishans — the one of 2023 and the current 2.0 version — is that he is more judicious in his approach. “I did work a lot on my off-side game, so that I could have them bowl to my area of strengths. Premadasa is a big ground and there was intent to hit the gaps and try to take two runs,” Ishan explained how meticulous his planning was.Captain Surya Kumar Yadav, too, was all praise for the dynamic southpaw. “He has been batting the same way in the last few games and domestic cricket. At 0-1, someone needed to take responsibility and he did that amazingly,” the skipper said.

Poll

What do you think is the key factor behind Ishan Kishan's recent success?

While Ishan was quite superb in the way he batted, there were areas where Pakistan got it wrong with him. Ishan has always been good against left-arm pacers, yet skipper Salman Ali Agha decided to bowl a woefully out-of-form Shaheen Afridi in the second over after dismissing Abhishek with spin in the first over. In his show, Indian spin legend R Ashwin pointed out how it was crucial for Pakistan to use another spinner from the other end.“Somebody like a Saim Ayub could easily have been introduced in the second over against the two left-handers (Ishan and Tilak Varma). Instead they bowled Afridi, who didn’t do anything to bother Ishan,” Ashwin said.It was just the release Ishan was look-ing for as he used the pace of the bowler to hit a couple of big hits and bring the pressure down. Ishan took a heavy toll of Shadab Khan and Abrar Ahmed, who did bowl to him in the Powerplay.Pakistan coach Mike Hesson had an explanation for that, acknowledging that “Ishan is fearless”. “He’s able to score on both sides of the ground, he isn’t just committed to the leg-side. We know he’s incredibly strong there, but he can reverse. So if you’ve got spin, especially in the Powerplay, it can be a challenge. In the form that he is in, Ishan applied a lot of pressure on our spinners and probably took them away from the basics,” Hesson said. The highlight of the match was the 87-run partnership off 46 balls that Ishan shared with Tilak, who is also known to be a destructive southpaw. But the two decided to take contrasting approaches on Sunday. While Ishan took 39 balls in that partnership and scored 76, Tilak contributed only 11 off seven. The Mumbai Indians left-hander explained later how they worked things out. “The ball was coming a little better in Powerplay and the intent that Ishan showed was great. Even I felt like going for the shots, but decided otherwise because of his form. I told him, ‘Bhai tera lag raha hain (Bro, you are striking it well), so you keep hitting, I will take care of the other end and put the ball in the gaps’,” Tilak, who was Man of the Match in the Asia Cup final not too long ago, said. It’s the collective effort that has been the cornerstone of India’s success in recent times in T20 cricket. At some point, Abhishek too will be back in his elements and with Ishan doing what he is, it will need a massive upset to stop the Indian juggernaut in this World Cup.

Fatima Sana’s all-round show helps Pakistan beat South Africa in 3rd WT20I to avoid series whitewash

Pakistan Women signed off the T20I leg of their 2026 tour of South Africa with a spirited 53-run victory over South Africa Women in the third and final match at Diamond Oval. After losing the first two games, the visitors produced a clinical all-round performance to avoid a series whitewash, riding on a stunning display from Fatima Sana, who was deservedly named a

Despite the defeat, South Africa had already sealed the three-match T20I series 2-1, having won the opening contest by five wickets and the second by six wickets. However, Pakistan’s emphatic response in the final game gave them valuable momentum heading into the ODI leg.

Fatima Sana powers Pakistan to competitive total

After winning the toss and opting to bat, Pakistan Women endured a shaky start. Openers Muneeba Ali and Gull Feroza were dismissed without scoring, leaving the visitors in early trouble. Ayesha Zafar (19 off 21) and Sidra Ameen (26 off 25) attempted to stabilise the innings, but South Africa’s disciplined bowling kept the scoring rate in check.

The innings turned dramatically in the latter half thanks to a counter-attacking knock from Sana. Walking in under pressure, she smashed 47 runs off just 30 deliveries, striking four boundaries and two towering sixes. Her aggressive stroke play shifted the momentum and propelled Pakistan to a respectable 144/7 in 20 overs.

Among the South African bowlers, Nonkululeko Mlaba delivered a tidy spell of 1 for 22 in four overs, while Ayabonga Khaka also chipped in with a wicket. Although Marizanne Kapp was economical, conceding just 11 runs in her three overs, the Proteas couldn’t contain Pakistan’s late surge.

Pakistan bowlers dismantle South Africa’s chase

Chasing 145, South Africa Women faltered from the outset. Tazmin Brits fell for a duck, and Dane van Niekerk was dismissed cheaply, putting the hosts on the back foot. While Nadine de Klerk (27 off 30) and Annerie Dercksen (30 off 38) attempted to rebuild the innings, the required rate kept climbing as Pakistan’s bowlers applied relentless pressure.

Sadia Iqbal was the standout performer with the ball, claiming 3 wickets for 18 runs in 3.5 overs. Sana once again made her presence felt, picking up 2 for 12 in her three overs and breaking crucial partnerships. Zafar also contributed with a key wicket during her economical spell.

South Africa were eventually bowled out for just 91 in 16.5 overs, falling well short of the target and handing Pakistan a comprehensive 53-run victory.

While South Africa Women claimed the T20I series 2-1, Pakistan’s dominant win in the final match offers renewed confidence ahead of the 50-over format. The two sides will next meet in the first ODI at Mangaung Oval on Sunday, February 22.

EU Parliament does not want AI inside its premises and work devices of its staff, sends email saying: As these features…
European Parliament has disabled built-in AI features on work devices due to cybersecurity and data protection fears. Tools like writing assistants and summarizers were found to be sending data to cloud servers. Lawmakers are also advised to exercise caution with AI on personal devices. This follows previous bans on apps like TikTok.

The European Parliament has killed built-in AI features on work devices handed to lawmakers and staff. The reason? Cybersecurity and data protection concerns. The decision came through an internal email sent on Monday, first reported by Politico. The Parliament’s e-MEP tech support desk flagged a specific problem—some AI tools were quietly shipping data to cloud servers for tasks the device could handle on its own. “As these features continue to evolve and become available on more devices, the full extent of data shared with service providers is still being assessed. Until this is fully clarified, it is considered safer to keep such features disabled,” the email said. What got the axe? Writing assistants, summarizing tools, enhanced virtual assistants, and webpage summary features on tablets and phones, an EU official told Politico. Everyday stuff like email, calendar, and apps still works fine.

EU Parliament wants lawmakers to clean up their personal phones too

The email didn’t stop at work devices. It asked lawmakers to “consider applying similar precautions” on personal phones and tablets used for work. The advice was pointed—don’t feed work emails or internal documents to AI features that scan content. Stay wary of third-party AI apps. And don’t hand them broad access to your data.

TikTok ban, Microsoft pushback—the EU has done this before

This isn’t new territory for the European Parliament. It banned TikTok on staff devices back in 2023. In November 2025, a group of lawmakers even pushed to ditch Microsoft software for a European alternative, Politico had reported. The timing is worth noting though. While the Parliament locks down AI on its devices, European citizens are embracing these tools. Eurostat data from December 2025 shows 32.7% of EU residents aged 16-74 used generative AI tools in 2025. Denmark topped the chart at 48.4%.The Parliament refused to name which specific AI features were disabled or what operating systems the devices run.

Parenting Tips: Raising a prodigy, protecting a childhood: A mother’s honest take on parenting a young genius |

Most parents worry about homework, screen time, and whether their child is eating enough vegetables. But when you’re raising a child prodigy, the parenting playbook looks a little different. The milestones don’t arrive in the usual order. Questions get deeper, faster. Interests become intense, sometimes all-consuming. And suddenly, you’re not just packing school lunches, you’re navigating conversations about advanced math, astronomy, research papers, or ideas that many adults struggle to grasp. But here’s what people often miss. Raising such a child isn’t just about nurturing talent. It’s about protecting childhood as well.

Effective tips to improve your parenting skills

There’s a fine balance. On one hand, you don’t want to dim their curiosity or hold them back. When a child is genuinely excited about solving complex problems or exploring big ideas, that spark deserves space. But on the other hand, they’re still children. They need laughter, messy play, family movie nights, and the freedom to be silly. They need friends, even if finding the right ones isn’t always easy.Parenting a prodigy also means dealing with misunderstandings. Not everyone gets it. Some assume it’s all pressure and pushy parenting. Others think intelligence automatically makes life easier. It doesn’t. In many ways, it can make things more complicated socially and emotionally. The same was the sentiment shared by Nandini Kochhar, the mother of Aaryaveer Kochhar, who was named on the “world’s brightest” students list at the age of 9. The list was released by the US-based Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth (CTY), based on grade-level testing of over 15,300 gifted students across 76 countries. Aaryaveer scored in the 99th percentile in Maths. At such a young age, he had learned how percentages are applied in daily life, how to write and solve two-step equations and inequalities, how to measure scale drawings, and how to work with statistics and complex geometry. He also scored 144 on the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children, which indicates superior intellectual ability. The test measures cognitive ability across four parameters: Verbal Comprehension, Perceptual Reasoning, Working Memory, and Processing Speed. We sat down with Nandini to discuss what it’s like to raise a child prodigy and how she balances her child’s academic and social life.

When did you first notice your child’s talent?

We began noticing this extremely early in his life when we saw that he was reading three-letter words and doing simple math problems at the age of two.At just 11 years old, he’s already been identified as superior gifted, placing him in the top 0.2 percent worldwide. He’s also been accepted into two of the world’s most prestigious high-IQ societies, Mensa and Intertel, which is no small feat. He’s now been named a global ambassador for gifted children.

Raising a prodigy, protecting a childhood: A mother’s honest take on parenting a young genius

Has this influenced your child’s friendships or social life in any way?

Absolutely. Gifted children tend not to get along easily with their age group or with people who do not match their IQ levels. Socially, these children prefer to associate with people who possess similar intelligence and interests. Otherwise, they are quite happy in their own world and often choose to be alone. My son is extremely social and engages enthusiastically when he finds company that matches his wavelength, but this tends to be people like IIT professors, mathematicians, or astronomers, very rarely other children.

How do you help your child balance academics, and social life?

My primary role is to ensure he doesn’t feel pressured. Although my son is happiest while researching math or studying celestial bodies, I strive to make sure our home environment is fun, light, and most of all peaceful. Since he is self-driven, I don’t need to motivate his academic pursuits. So I invest my energy in planning fun activities, movie nights, outdoor adventures, game nights, and other things we all look forward to as a family.I also make sure that when he has a deadline for an out-of-school endeavour, I allow him to take a few days off from school. And when there is a school deadline, I ensure he pauses some of his other activities. Basically, my focus remains on keeping him happy and giving him a normal childhood despite achievements that are beyond his years.

What obstacles or struggles have you faced as parents of a young prodigy?

My main struggle comes from the fact that gifted children are sometimes not properly understood. There is a difference between an intelligent child, a child who scores good marks, and a child who is clinically gifted. People who are unaware or underqualified may not understand the world of a gifted child, their patterns or behaviours, and this can lead to challenges. However, we have been extremely fortunate. Most of the people around him have been supportive, understanding, and appreciative of his gifts. Both inside and outside school, he has educators and mentors who support and care for him deeply.

Raising a prodigy, protecting a childhood: A mother’s honest take on parenting a young genius

How do you help your child handle stress, competition pressure, or losses?

From the very beginning, for both my children, humility has been a major part of my upbringing. While I celebrate my son’s achievements with great enthusiasm, I also spend time ensuring nothing goes to his head. He must remain grounded and humble, acknowledging and appreciating others’ abilities and achievements as well. In this way, I feel he does not take losses to heart.I truly believe the key to managing a child’s stress and emotions, especially when they are competing internationally at a young age, is something as simple as a happy home and a close-knit family. No matter what he faces, knowing he has a mom, dad, and brother who loves him unconditionally, who will celebrate his wins and comfort him after a loss, makes all the difference. When he walks into a competition, test, or exam knowing there is zero performance pressure from his family, he performs freely and with a clear mind.

Which achievement made you feel proudest as a parent, and why?

Ironically, the achievement I am most proud of has nothing to do with his intelligence. It is his empathy and honesty. He is a good human being. He is the child who invites every classmate to his birthday party so no one feels left out. He includes the child who is being excluded. He gives up his own things for his little brother. He chooses his words carefully so he never hurts anyone’s feelings. That is what I am truly proud of.
