Amitabh Bachchan's granddaughter Navya Naveli Nanda on not joining films despite Bachchan legacy: 'There was no pressure ever'

Despite being born into the illustrious Bachchan family, Navya Naveli Nanda says she never felt any pressure to step into the world of acting. In a recent conversation with Variety India, Navya addressed the long-standing curiosity around whether she was ever expected to carry forward the cinematic legacy of her grandparents, Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan.“No, I don’t think there was any pressure, and I think that my family has always been very supportive of everyone having their own independent choices, especially when it comes to their careers. So, there was no pressure ever to join a certain side or a certain legacy of the family,” she said.Navya revealed that her interests were always inclined towards entrepreneurship. “I think for me, growing up, it was always seeing my dad (entrepreneur Nikhil Nanda) work and seeing my dadi (paternal grandmother) and my bua (aunt) and my mom (author-philanthropist Shweta Bachchan Nanda) start businesses of their own. So, I think that’s really what inspired and excited me as a kid. I was always very clear from a very young age that that was really the side that I would kind of choose and lean in to in my own career.

Pursuing management at IIM Ahmedabad

Navya Naveli Nanda, entrepreneur and granddaughter of Amitabh Bachchan, is currently pursuing a two-year Blended Post Graduate Programme (BPGP) in Management at Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad as part of the Class of 2026. She enrolled in the hybrid (online and on-campus) programme to deepen her business knowledge, describing it as a demanding, rigorous yet rewarding experience.

“Achievement is not a large number”

Navya, who works in the development sector and co-hosts a podcast with her mother Shweta Bachchan Nanda and grandmother Jaya Bachchan, also reflected on what success truly means to her. “I think this is probably a question that we all grapple with, which is, you know, what does success really mean or what does achievement really mean? I work in the development sector, and for me, achievement or success is not a large number. It’s about impacting one person’s life as deeply as you can, and the work that we do really tries to focus more on that rather than thousands and thousands of people. It’s really about how you can change one person’s life through what you’re doing, and for me, that is an achievement. If I’m able to do that even daily I think I would say I’m being successful.”

Nuclear talks: ‘Iran not willing to acknowledge Trump’s red lines’, says JD Vance; Tehran claims ‘guiding principles’ agreed

Nuclear talks: 'Iran not willing to acknowledge Trump's red lines', says JD Vance; Tehran claims 'guiding principles' agreed

Iran has not accepted all of the “red lines” outlined by US President Donald Trump for a diplomatic resolution, Vice President JD Vance said on Tuesday following the second round of talks in Switzerland’s Geneva. Vance suggested that the United States remains open to diplomacy, even after Trump warned that military action could be considered if Iran’s clerical leadership fails to address key concerns, starting with its nuclear program. “In some ways, it went well; they agreed to meet again,” Vance told Fox News. “But in other ways, it was clear that the president has established certain red lines that the Iranians are not yet prepared to recognize or work through,” he added. “We will continue to pursue diplomatic efforts. However, the president reserves the right to determine when diplomacy has run its course. We hope it doesn’t come to that, but if it does, the decision will be the president’s,” Vance said.Meanwhile, Iranian foreign minister Abbas Araghchi, who participated in the talks with US special envoy Steve Witkoff and Trump’s son-in-law Jared Kushner in Geneva, said Tehran and Washington had reached agreement on “guiding principles” for a potential deal aimed at preventing conflict. “Ultimately, we were able to reach broad agreement on a set of guiding principles, based on which we will move forward and begin working on the text of a potential agreement,” Araghchi told Iranian state television after the talks, describing them as “more constructive” than the first round held earlier this month. He also cautioned, however, that it “would take time to narrow” the differences between the two countries. Mediated by Oman, the talks were intended to avert possible US military intervention against Iran’s nuclear program, coming weeks after the cleric-run Islamic Republic reportedly killed thousands while suppressing mass protests. For years, Tehran has sought relief from sweeping US sanctions, including restrictions preventing other countries from buying Iranian oil.(With AFP inputs)

‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’: Bertie Carvel on Baelor Targaryen’s DEATH: ‘Was delighted to find that heroism can still exist in Westeros’ |

Actor Bertie Carvel has opened up about portraying Prince Baelor “Breakspear” Targaryen and the pivotal moment in episode 4 and 5, when the prince volunteers to fight for Ser Duncan the Tall in ‘A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms’.Carvel, in a round table attended by ETimes, said the scene immediately stood out to him when he first read the script, describing Baelor’s arrival on the field as the moment that “lit me up.” As a fan of the franchise, he explained, “If you’ve loved Game of Thrones, as I did, you’re expecting a world of kind of cynicism in which everybody ends up dead. You’re continually being wrong-footed about where protagonism sits.
It feels like our world in which you shouldn’t attach too greatly to your heroes, because the world is unstable, it’s unpredictable, and they might get hit by a truck.”

Bertie on Baelor’s EPIC entry scene

However, Carvel said this new series offers a different emotional register within the same universe. “In this corner of Westeros, I was delighted to find that heroism can still exist in a world of hard-bitten cynicism. There is still such a thing as goodness and champions, and that is a story I want to see today.”

For Carvel, Baelor’s decision to step in and fight for Ser Duncan The Tall and “do the right thing” resonated deeply. He recalled reading about his character’s epic entry while on his way to Belfast. He said, “I want to believe that in this darkening world, there is still such a thing as goodness, and there is still a space for heroism and truth. And so the moment where Baylor turns up and does the right thing really answered something I needed, and I cheered, and I wept, and I wanted that for an audience. And I think when I’m so thrilled that when I watched that episode, the familiar (Game of Thrones) theme tune comes in.”

How ‘A Kinght of the Seven Kingdoms’ is different from ‘Game of Thrones’

He also praised the adaptation’s faithfulness to the tone of the source material, particularly its quieter, more patient storytelling style. Describing the show as operating “in a different key,” Carvel said “One of the things I love about it is it’s kind of quietude. It’s so unlike it, very recognisably that that same world, such a different gaze, isn’t there?
So the kind of Game of Thrones, regets in a different register. It’s in a different key. And it feels quiet, but the patient and surprising and charming, and yeah, it’s a really, it’s like watching two cousins somehow. You see this family, this dynasty, and you think you see a cousin, but it’s different.”

Bertie on Prine Baelor’s death

Addressing the subject of his character’s shocking death, Carvel quipped, “Once your dead, you’re dead. I don’t have to think about episode six. It’s great.”However, he went on to reflect about his charater’s heroism and unexplored depth in the series. He shared, “I think he carries a sadness with him in the language of chivalry, you would call it, tristesse. And a bit like that in Silverbat gorilla, there’s a deep sadness somehow in their eyes. I wanted him to have depth, to want the audience to lean in and think there’s more.”Sharing his thoughts on the kind of King Baelor may have become had he survived, he shares, “I think, what must it be to grow up? Knowing you’re going to rule, but no world?
It’s a huge responsibility if you take that one seriously. He is not a cruel being, he is a noble being. But I wanted him to have a danger about him, an animal. To be a prince in that world is to take nothing for granted.”A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms‘, episode 5 titled ‘In the Name of the Mother’, became the highest-rated ‘Game of Thrones’ episode of all time with the episode reaching a 9.8/10 on IMDb. The episode sees Baelor, dying in Dunk’s arms as his body collapses from a head wound sustained from his own brother, Maekar’s mace. The series finale will hit screens next Sunday.

Morkel discloses family matters ahead of India vs South Africa 2026 T20 WC match

The Morkel family is in a great dilemma as India will take on South Africa in the Round of Eight of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2026. Both India and South Africa went through the group stage to confirm their seats on the next flight.

When India and South Africa square off on February 22 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, Mariana Morkel, mother of Albie Morkel and Morne Morkel, will be in a state of being indecisive as Albie is with South Africa and Morne is with India.

International stats of Albie Morkel and Morne Morkel

Ahead of South Africa’s Group D clash against the UAE at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Albie Morkel, who played one Test, 58 ODIs, and 50 T20Is and is now with the national side for the 2026 T20 World Cup as a consultant coach, stated that their mother will be more worried than anyone during the upcoming India vs South Africa match.

On the other side, Morne Morkel, who played 86 Tests, 117 ODIs, and 44 T20Is for the Proteas, is working as the bowling coach of Team India.

Mother doesn’t to know who to support: Morkel

It was also asked of Albie if he would like to exchange some coaching thoughts with his brother Morne ahead of the highly anticipated clash. Taking no time, Albie said that they don’t talk to each other.

“No, we don’t talk to each other. I think my mother, she’s more worried than us. “She doesn’t know who to support, India or South Africa,” Albie Morkel said in the press conference on Tuesday.

Morkel expecting high class matches in the Round of Eight

In the press conference, Albie emphasized the real tournament will begin from the round of eight. In Group 1 of the stage, South Africa will play against India, West Indies, and Zimbabwe. He believes that all the scheduled matches they are going to play will be highly competitive, with extra pressure.

“I think the World Cup really starts now, even though we had a tough group. Now you face India, possibly Australia or Zimbabwe, and the West Indies in our group. So it’s really tough. It’s going to be all good games. Yes, there will be more pressure on those games because as you move later towards the playoffs,” he added.

He had faith over South Africa

Albie further claimed that he has enough faith in their batters and bowlers, who gained ample experience from exposures, whether in the Indian Premier League (IPL) or in international matches. They know how to handle pressure situations.

“But I feel we’ve got a very experienced group of bowlers, and batting is better, so guys that have been exposed to that, whether it’s an IPL or other leagues or in international cricket, are a little bit different. But guys that can handle that pressure—they actually will thrive in those circumstances where there’s a bit more pressure on the games—so I’m not too worried,” Albie Morkel briefed.

NEW DELHI: Tina Ambani, the wife of Anil Ambani of Reliance group, skipped her second date with the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Tuesday. Ajit Pawar plane’s black boxes damaged in fire: AAIB | India News

Ajit Pawar plane's black boxes damaged in fire: AAIB
Plane crash on Jan 28 near Baramati airport.

Mumbai: The two independent black boxes of the Learjet aircraft that crashed at Baramati airport, killing the then Maharashtra deputy CM Ajit Pawar, sustained fire damage, the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau said on Tuesday. The AAIB said specialised support from the manufacturer was sought to retrieve data from one of the recorders, the cockpit voice recorder. The Digital Flight Data Recorder (DFDR), manufactured by L3-Communications, was successfully downloaded at the AAIB Flight Recorder Laboratory, it said. The DFDR records technical parameters of the flight like aircraft speed, altitude and heading. “The Cockpit Voice Recorder (CVR), manufactured by Honeywell, is undergoing detailed technical examination. Assistance has been sought from accredited representative of the state of manufacture for specialised support in data retrieval,” it said. The CVR records conversation between the pilots, the radio communications with the air traffic controller and ambient noises in the cockpit. “Both recorders were exposed to intense heat for a prolonged period during the accident and sustained fire damage,” it said.On Jan 28, a Learjet-45 aircraft operated by charter company VSR Ventures crashed during approach and landing at Baramati airport, killing all five people on board. While the fire that broke out after the accident left major portions of the fuselage charred, pictures from the accident site showed the tail section of the aircraft intact.“Both the black boxes are installed in the tail section and that part of the aircraft was largely intact. In fact, cartons and other cargo stored in the tail section can be seen strewn around in the wreckage with hardly any fire damage. So how did the black boxes sustain so much fire damage?” asked Capt Amit Singh, an air safety expert. Black boxes like DFDR and CVR are placed in metal armour and insulation to survive the impact, high temperatures and pressure.Sena UBT MP Sanjay Raut said the damage to CVR was “mysterious” and “very serious”. The comments came in the backdrop of allegations by NCP (SP) MLA Rohit Pawar last week. He had hinted at possible conspiracy and sabotage in the crash. Among the allegations he levied against VSR Ventures was one about the CVR. Pawar said he learned from the company’s former employees that they regularly kept the CVR switched off on most flights. It is illegal to keep the CVR off.The wait now is for the preliminary report, which under investigation norms should be submitted to the International Civil Aviation Organisation within 30 days of an accident. The investigating state, India in this case, can decide whether to release the preliminary report to the public or keep it confidential.
