Infosys-Anthropic pact reignites question: Turning AI risk into opportunity for Indian IT?

Infosys-Anthropic pact reignites question: Turning AI risk into opportunity for Indian IT?

Shares of Infosys surged as much as 5 per cent to Rs 1,430.95 on the BSE on Tuesday after the IT major announced a strategic collaboration with Anthropic, offering relief to investors worried about the disruptive impact of artificial intelligence on traditional software services. The stock rally marks a sharp reversal for Infosys, which had been under pressure amid fears that generative AI could render conventional IT outsourcing and software services obsolete.

Claude models to be integrated with Topaz AI platform

Under the partnership, Anthropic’s Claude models, including Claude Code, will be paired with Infosys’s proprietary Topaz AI platform. The collaboration will focus on sectors such as telecommunications, financial services, manufacturing and software development.“There’s a big gap between an AI model that works in a demo and one that works in a regulated industry — and if you want to close that gap, you need domain expertise,” said Dario Amodei, CEO and co-founder of Anthropic, as quoted by ET.“Infosys has exactly that kind of expertise across important industries: telecom, financial services, and manufacturing,” he added, reported ET.Infosys CEO Salil Parekh said the company sees AI unlocking six new service lines: AI strategy and engineering, agentic legacy modernisation, data readiness, process reimagination, physical AI and AI trust.“AI is not just transforming business — it is redefining the way industries operate and innovate,” Parekh said, as per ET.The company estimates a $300–$400 billion market opportunity by 2030 and is positioning itself to capture a share of that emerging demand.

Focus on agentic AI and legacy modernisation

At the core of the collaboration is agentic AI — systems capable of independently executing multi-step tasks such as processing insurance claims, generating and testing code, or running compliance reviews, rather than merely responding to prompts.Using tools such as the Claude Agent SDK, Infosys plans to build AI agents that can operate persistently across complex enterprise workflows.Legacy modernisation, historically a major revenue stream for Indian IT firms, will also be a key focus area. The two companies aim to combine their platforms to accelerate migration away from aging infrastructure. The partnership will begin with a dedicated Anthropic Center of Excellence focused on the telecom sector, before expanding to financial services, manufacturing and other verticals.

Analysts see relief, but flag open questions

Market participants viewed the development as a positive signal for the Indian IT sector, which has faced sustained concerns over AI-led disruption.“This development is encouraging, as it suggests that next-generation AI applications are unlikely to disrupt Indian IT companies’ business models to the extent initially feared,” said Vinod Nair, head of research at Geojit Investments, as quoted by ET.“Instead, these solutions are expected to be incorporated into both existing and new projects, which should help ease concerns around long-term business sustainability,” he added. However, Nair cautioned that uncertainties remain around deal sizes, pricing evolution and the net margin impact once employee cost efficiencies are balanced against productivity gains. He described the sector’s outlook for FY27-28 as “muted compared with the strong performance of the past two to three years,” though subdued valuations may present re-entry opportunities for long-term investors.Sumit Pokharna of Kotak Securities called the collaboration “definitely a step in the right direction and the need of the hour.”“They need governance, transparency, compliance, reliability, and security,” he said, referring to regulated industries’ AI adoption requirements, effectively underscoring the value proposition Infosys is now pitching, reported ET.

Repositioning Indian IT in the AI era

The broader significance of the announcement extends beyond a single partnership. Indian IT firms have spent nearly two years defending against investor concerns that generative AI could compress headcount, shrink project scopes and erode the labour-arbitrage model that powered sector growth. The Infosys-Anthropic deal represents a deliberate attempt to reposition Indian IT not as a casualty of the AI wave, but as a crucial intermediary between cutting-edge AI models and the compliance-heavy, operationally complex reality of global enterprises.Whether this strategic pivot translates into sustained deal flow, improved pricing power and stronger margins will depend on execution. For now, however, the market appears willing to give Infosys the benefit of the doubt, as reflected in Tuesday’s sharp rally.(Disclaimer: Recommendations and views on the stock market, other asset classes or personal finance management tips given by experts are their own. Agriculture ministry launches Bharat-VISTAAR, a multilingual AI tool for digital fam advisories | India News

Agriculture ministry launches Bharat-VISTAAR, a multilingual AI tool for digital fam advisories

NEW DELHI: Days after its announcement in the Budget, the agriculture ministry on Tuesday launched AI-enabled ‘Bharat-VISTAAR’ (Virtually Integrated System to Access Agricultural Resources) that will help farmers in farm-level decision-making by receiving date-driven customised digital advisory.Launched at a time when India is hosting the AI Impact Summit, Bharat-VISTAAR is a multilingual AI tool that will integrate the AgriStack portals and the Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) package on farm practices with AI systems. Its use is expected to enhance farm productivity, enable better decisions for farmers and reduce risk by providing customised advisory support related to weather, market prices, pests and diseases, soil health, crop management, and information on major central govt schemes.Calling Bharat-VISTAAR a platform of “ask and get direct answers”, agriculture minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said farmers will neither have to make rounds of offices nor struggle with digital applications.“They will now just have to dial 155261 by picking up a mobile phone and ask any farm-related question. They will get immediate answer in one’s local language about which medicine (pesticide/insecticide) to apply, when to sow and what rates (of selling price of crops) are available in the markets of Jaipur, Jodhpur, Udaipur, Delhi or Mumbai,” Chouhan said while launching the first phase of Bharat-VISTAAR.The scheme, which is devised as an “AI-based digital security shield”, has initially been started in Hindi and English languages. Farmers will eventually be able to interact in 11 languages under the system in future.Chouhan said a farmer identity card was also being created under the system that would contain all information about the farmer. “Preparations are underway to connect the entire agricultural system with the Bharat VISTAAR scheme,” he added.Currently, a couple of central schemes such as ‘Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana’ and ‘Soil Health Card’ have been included in this scheme. Information about all major central schemes for farmers will be available through it in due course. The minister on the occasion also unveiled AI Hackathon focused on farmers and ‘Agri Kosh AI Strategy Roadmap’, emphasising innovative solutions for agricultural challenges.

Elderly parents need to show inability to maintain themselves to claim relief under upkeep law, says Bombay high court | Mumbai News

Mumbai: For a senior citizen to claim relief under the law meant for the welfare of the elderly, it is essential for him to make out a case of inability to maintain himself out of his earnings and earnings from his property, the Bombay high court recently held. The HC set aside a tribunal’s February 2024 order that had directed two sons to vacate a house where they resided, after the father, residing elsewhere, wanted them out, citing provisions of the socio-beneficial legislation. “Every case of conflict between a senior citizen and his offspring would not be covered by the remedial jurisdiction of the act,” said Justice Somasekhar Sundaresan, saying it was necessary to demonstrate the inability to maintain oneself and for tribunals to have a holistic reading of three provisions of the Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007.The HC, however, said it did not comment on case merits and gave the father liberty to apply afresh before the tribunal with empirical evidence to demonstrate his case and the sons, entitled to their response and evidence of whether the act’s jurisdiction is available to him.“The objective of directing a relative to vacate the premises to enable maintaining the emotional needs and peace expected in normal life would presuppose the family living under one roof, with the need to remove the relative to enable the senior citizen’s peace,” Justice Sundaresan said, adding, “A situation where the parties have been in conflict for long and one desires the other to be removed from a property where they do not reside jointly… is not a matter that would fall within the ambit and scope of remedial intervention under the Act.”The sons, from their father’s late first wife, reside in a Malad slum unit. The retired pension-drawing father had remarried and resided elsewhere but claimed the sons were drawing rent, not residing in Malad. The maintenance tribunal held father disentitled to maintenance. The act entitles a senior citizen to maintain himself from property earnings, was the father’s case. The HC held Section 4 entitles a senior citizen to claim protection on inability to maintain oneself from earnings and property and obliges adult children to maintain parents. Both elements don’t operate in a vaccum, HC said.

Navjot Kaur Sidhu targets Rahul Gandhi; flags issues in Punjab Congress: ‘You don’t deserve that chair’ | Coimbatore News

COIMBATORE: Former Congress leader Navjot Kaur Sidhu has launched a sharp attack on Rahul Gandhi, accusing the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha of being “disconnected from ground realities” and failing to act against alleged corruption within the Punjab Congress unit. Addressing the media in Coimbatore, Sidhu alleged that Gandhi’s inaction is damaging the party’s prospects in Punjab, according to news agency PTI. She claimed that members of his inner circle are engaged in selling election tickets while he remains unaware of developments on the ground. “Rahul Gandhi talks good. He talks sense. But what he does and what he says is very different. For the past eight months, I have been asking for a time to tell him that your people, your president or your person appointed in Punjab is not doing justice to Punjab. He’s killing Congress in Punjab. I’m just asking you for a seating to tell you that your party is being destroyed in Punjab. They have already sold the tickets,” said Sidhu. She further stated, “If you are not aware of what is happening beneath you, then I am sorry. You do not deserve that chair. You are responsible for what you are doing. We left everything for Punjab, and you promised us a deputy CM post with seven departments and me as an MP, but you gave us nothing. You gave us local bodies and tourism, and you wanted them to be run according to the CM. Why are you talking against corruption when your own people are corrupt? And you are liking those corrupt people around you. The people surrounding you are totally corrupt. You have no time for the honest people who want to come and tell you that this is going wrong, you are not going to win Punjab.” “Probably it is been gifted to him. He has not worked his way through the lower steps to actually be on the lower ground. I think it’s very important to be grounded. What’s happening at ground zero is very important for anyone. You have to be in touch with the ground reality to know. You can’t be living in a dream world,” said Sidhu. “We have been honest throughout our lives. We have just gained the confidence of the people of Punjab, of the people of India, by being honest and struggling financially because of that. You can point a finger at PM Modi. Try to touch him. Does he have a penny? Does he have a file against him? Try touching him personally. There is nothing against him,” Sidhu added.

WATCH: Sompal Kami plucks a one-handed blinder to dismiss Brandon McMullen in SCO vs NEP clash at T20 World Cup 2026

Even though both teams are already out of contention for the Super 8 stage, the Group C encounter between Scotland and Nepal at the iconic Wankhede Stadium has plenty of drama to offer. With pride at stake in the 33rd match of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026, both sides came out determined to finish their campaign on a positive note.

Nepal won the toss and chose to bowl first — a decision that seemed questionable in the early stages as Scotland’s openers came out all guns blazing.

Scotland’s flying start through George Munsey and Michael Jones

Scotland couldn’t have asked for a better start. George Munsey and Michael Jones stitched together a fluent 80-run partnership for the opening wicket, putting Nepal’s bowlers under immense pressure. Munsey looked aggressive from ball one, while Jones played the perfect supporting role before accelerating confidently.

The Nepal bowlers struggled initially to find their rhythm as Scotland raced ahead in the powerplay. At one stage, a total well beyond 190 looked firmly within reach. The momentum was completely in Scotland’s favour, and Nepal needed something extraordinary to claw their way back.

Sompal Kami takes a one-handed screamer to remove Brandon McMullen

That extraordinary moment arrived in the 16th over — courtesy of Nepal’s experienced all-rounder Sompal Kami. On the fourth ball of the over, Kami bowled a clever slower full delivery on middle stump to Brandon McMullen. McMullen, looking to push the scoring rate, chipped the ball back over the bowler’s head after committing early to the shot.

What happened next left the packed Wankhede crowd in absolute disbelief. In his followthrough, Kami instinctively stuck out his right hand and plucked a sensational one-handed catch out of thin air. The stadium erupted. For a few seconds, the noise was deafening McMullen stood stunned at the crease, struggling to process what had just unfolded. It was one of those catches that instantly becomes a tournament highlight — sharp reflexes, balance, and sheer athletic brilliance all rolled into one breathtaking moment.

Nepal’s spirited fightback restricts Scotland

Kami’s moment of magic triggered a shift in momentum. Nepal tightened the screws and picked up wickets at regular intervals. From cruising comfortably, Scotland suddenly found themselves rebuilding. Jones, however, stood tall amid the collapse. The right-hander top-scored with a brilliant 71 off just 45 deliveries, smashing eight fours and three sixes in an entertaining knock. His innings ensured Scotland posted a competitive total despite the middle-order wobble.

Eventually, Scotland finished at 170/7 in their 20 overs — a total that looked slightly below par considering their dominant start. Kami was the standout performer with the ball for Nepal. The all-rounder returned impressive figures of 3 for 25 in his four overs, combining control, clever variations, and that unforgettable catch to cap off a memorable outing.
