Companies see AI as a growth engine: Accenture CEO

Accenture CEO Julie Sweet highlights need for AI access for SMEs to drive inclusive global growth

New Delhi: Julie Sweet is CEO of Accenture, the world’s largest IT consulting and services company, with revenue of $70 billion. After a 10-year legal career, Sweet joined Accenture as general counsel in 2010 and was appointed CEO in 2019. In her first interaction with the media in India, where Accenture employs 3.5 lakh people, Sweet spoke about AI’s transformational capabilities, how LLMs are becoming the new malls, and AI’s impact on talent.Companies building AI tech are making big investments. How is business adoption of AI?Demand is significant and shifting. Our latest quarterly survey of C-suites across 20 countries found that the biggest value for AI is driving growth. This is a shift from the discussion about productivity and efficiency. For clients, it is the old maxim: You cannot cut your way to growth, and the bigger opportunity is to drive growth. For example, LLMs are going to become a new mall. This is an entirely new channel and very different from what it was in search of. All the main model providers and big tech ecosystems are creating the technology now (to buy on LLMs). To show up in these models and engage a customer, businesses must have different kinds of content and enable the ability to buy. That is like making the impossible possible. Small and medium-sized businesses around the world now suddenly have a marketplace they did not have before. AI’s productivity improvements are great, but more importantly, that is giving companies more capacity to invest in AI for growth and create new products.

‘India Well Positioned To Lead The World In AI’: OpenAI CEO Sam Altman At AI Impact Summit

Equity investors seem wary of the impact of AI tools on IT services. How do you see this?AI is very early in terms of technology. So, there is a fair amount of uncertainty about how AI develops and what the impacts are. The only certainty is that companies need to adopt it and they need help. There are all these debates around models, chips, and energy. What no one is debating is that adoption is the biggest barrier, and that is where Accenture can help, with its industry expertise, functional expertise, and ability to execute at scale. We did the biggest reinventions over the last several years; we have the largest AI workforce and experience of any of our peers in terms of actual execution. So, we are focused on this big opportunity. As AI becomes more autonomous, who is accountable – the board, the CEO, or the developer?Humans remain in the lead. Governance does not change because technology evolves. Companies have boards and CEOs who are responsible for everything that happens. Leaders manage far more technology today than a decade ago, yet accountability has not shifted. But responsibility ultimately rests with the board and CEO.Accenture is stopping AI-specific revenue disclosures. How should investors track progress? When ChatGPT surged, there was uncertainty about its business impact. In 2023, we reported $100 million in advanced AI sales to demonstrate leadership and transparency-rapid growth, but from a small base. None of our peers broke out pure advanced AI revenues the way we did. At the time, most of the work was proof-of-concept, so it was easy to isolate. We reported only advanced AI, not the classical AI we delivered for years. Now it is integrated into large transformations, making separation less meaningful. That reflects market maturity. Ultimately, investors judge us on top-line growth and bottom-line results. AI’s value lies in driving enterprise-wide impact, not sitting in a silo.Close to half of your 7.8 lakh employees are in India. Give us a sense of the role your India employees are playing. In India, we will hire more people this year than last. At the same time, how we onboard and train talent is changing dramatically. Graduates today arrive far more AI-native than those who entered the workforce 5 years ago. Entry-level employees are critical because they bring new ways of working and thinking. Everyone at Accenture is being trained in agentic AI, and India has one of the largest AI workforces in the world, tightly integrated with our hubs in the US, Europe, and Japan. India is not just a delivery centre – it is central to our AI capability build-out.What is your advice for youngsters and universities, given how AI is changing job roles? You have to walk in with AI fluency. That was not true 3 years ago. So, it is absolutely critical that universities work with the private sector to truly understand the skills employers need now and make sure that their youth have those skills.

Sanjay Bangar names three key players crucial to India’s T20 World Cup 2026 campaign

As the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 enters its high-stakes Super Eight stage, the defending champions, India, find themselves in a formidable Group 1. With a flawless 4-0 record in the group stages, the Men in Blue are set to navigate a challenging path alongside South Africa, Zimbabwe, and the West Indies. The journey begins with a marquee clash against the Proteas in Ahmedabad on Sunday, February 22. Following this, India will lock horns with the “Chevrons” of Zimbabwe in Chennai on February 26, before concluding the phase against the West Indies in Kolkata on March 1.

Sanjay Bangar reveals three vital stars for India in ongoing T20 World Cup 2026

Speaking on the popular Star Sports show ‘Follow the Blues,’ former India all-rounder and batting coach Sanjay Bangar identified three players who will be the linchpins of India’s success in the knockout race. Leading his list is the explosive Ishan Kishan. Bangar noted that with Abhishek Sharma struggling for rhythm at the top, the responsibility of providing lightning-fast starts has shifted entirely to Kishan.

From here on, three players who are going to be extremely critical… are going to be men in form, and that’s where I feel Ishan Kishan, the way he has been batting… the onus now falls on him to give those explosive starts,” Bangar remarked.

The statistics back this claim; Kishan has already amassed 176 runs in four innings at a staggering strike rate of 202.29.

Bangar’s second pick is the ever-reliable Suryakumar Yadav, who has anchored the middle order with 162 runs and an innate ability to read match situations. Finally, Bangar emphasized that while spin is a hot topic, Jasprit Bumrah remains the ultimate trump card. Despite having only four wickets so far, his elite economy rate of 6.00 ensures he remains the captain’s go-to man when the match is on the line.

Player number two is Suryakumar Yadav. He has scored runs in most of the games on a consistent basis, understanding the situation of the game. The third player is going to be Jasprit Bumrah. Everybody is talking about the spin aspect of this Indian team, but I believe that Jasprit Bumrah is going to hold the key when the match is on the line as far as bowling is concerned,” he added.

India’s group of death scenario in Super eight group 1

India’s path to the semi-finals is anything but easy, as Group 1 features a collection of table-toppers and giant-killers. Unlike typical draws, this group assembles teams that have shown dominant form. South Africa enter the fray as last year’s runners-up, eager to avenge their 2024 final loss. Meanwhile, the West Indies remain a perennial threat in the shortest format, especially with the power-hitters they possess.

The inclusion of Zimbabwe adds a layer of unpredictability. The African nation secured their spot after a dramatic qualification run that saw perennial heavyweights Australia knocked out. With every team in Group 1 capable of beating the other on their day, India cannot afford a single slip-up. The tactical battle will likely revolve around how India’s in form trio handles the varied challenges of Ahmedabad’s ambience, Chennai’s turn, and the iconic atmosphere of Eden Gardens.

Trump accuses SCOTUS of being swayed by foreign interests after legal setback; attacks US companies and attorneys with India ties

FULL RANT: Trump Explodes After Supreme Court ‘Humiliation’, Slaps New 10% Tariff In Shock Revenge

TOI correspondent from Washington: In an extraordinary and unprecedented attack on a storied 236-year old institution that predates the arrival in America of his forbears by almost a century, President Donald Trump has accused the US Supreme Court of being swayed by foreign interests after it struck down his “liberation day” tariffs in a 6-3 opinion. At a White House news conference and in social media posts that followed the legal and political setback, Trump deployed choice invective against the apex court, calling its majority “lapdogs for the radical left” and “fools” who were “unpatriotic and disloyal to our Constitution.” He alleged that the court had been influenced by outside global forces, while lashing out against the plaintiffs, among them Chicago-based toy seller Learning Resources, which imports educational toys, STEM kits, and classroom supplies from India.

FULL RANT: Trump Explodes After Supreme Court ‘Humiliation’, Slaps New 10% Tariff In Shock Revenge

“I know the people that brought the lawsuit….they’re major sleazebags… they’re un-American slime balls who want to see our country fail,” he raged.

,

The US President also appeared to be referring to Neal Katyal, an Indian-American attorney who argued the case before the SC representing Learning Resources and other plaintiffs, and who has been a thorn for Trump’s MAGA dispensation. The case also involved another Indian-American attorney, Pratik Shah, who was the lead counsel for Learning Resources and hand2mind, two educational toy companies that challenged the presidential authority under IEEPA. The Supreme Court consolidated all the cases, and Katyal, who was originally the attorney for Liberty Justice Center, a legal organisation that fronted for five other plaintiffs affected by the tariffs, won the right to make the arguments after a coin toss. A small family-owned business, Learning Resources imports Do-It-Yourself science kits, Montessori-style wooden toys and sensory tools, and yoga balls like BubblePlush from Indian companies such as Funskool and Lighthouse Learning. According to company executives, they went up against the administration after having to pony up $14 million in tariff payments in 2025, nearly driving them to bankruptcy. Both Learning Resources and Katyal said statements following the judicial win that the case was about Presidential powers to impose tariffs, not about any one president. “It has always been about separation of powers, and not the politics of the moment. I’m gratified to see our Supreme Court, which has been the bedrock of our government for 250 years, protect our most fundamental values,” Katyal said.“You know, one of the great things about the American system is what just happened today. I was able to go to court, the son of immigrants, and say, on behalf of American small businesses, hey, this President is acting illegally. It was a really intense oral argument, and at the end of it, they voted, and we won. That is something so extraordinary about this country, that allows us to say, you might be the most powerful man in the world, but you still can’t break the Constitution. I mean that to me, is what today is about,” Katyal added. But Trump was unsparing in his vituperative attacks on the Supreme Court, even unloading on the three conservative justices who joined the three liberals in the 6-3 opinion. “I think it’s an embarrassment to their families, if you want to know the truth—the two of them,” he said, getting personal while referring to Justice Neil Gorsuch and Justice Amy Comey Barrett, both of whom he nominated to the SC during his first term. The third, Chief Justice John Roberts, is a George W Bush Jr pick. Trump was at a meeting of US governors on Friday morning when an aide passed him a note about the SC ruling. According to several reports, the President went ballistic, raging about “the f***ing courts,” and ending the meeting quickly to formulate his response. He appeared in the White House briefing room a couple hours later, still visibly furious. Asked if the six justices who voted to undo his tariffs would be welcome at Tuesday’s State of the Union address, Trump responded, “They’re barely invited. Honestly, I couldn’t care less if they come.”The SC ruling marks a significant legal and political setback for Trump, who had imposed sweeping tariffs under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA), citing national security and economic sovereignty. In its opinion, the court held that the president had exceeded the authority granted under the statute, reinforcing Congress’s primacy over trade and taxation powers under the Constitution. The alignment between the three liberal and three conservative justices underscored the institutional nature of the ruling, which turned on statutory interpretation and constitutional structure rather than partisan ideology.Legal scholars across the ideological spectrum noted that the ruling reaffirms the constitutional separation of powers at a time of expanding executive action. Whether the decision curtails future efforts to unilaterally reshape US. trade policy remains to be seen, but the immediate fallout has injected tension into a relationship between the White House and the nation’s highest court which the President believed he could bend to his will.

AI Impact Summit declaration secures support of 86 nations, two global bodies: Ashwini Vaishnaw

AI Impact Summit declaration secures support of 86 nations, two global bodies: Ashwini Vaishnaw

Eighty-six countries and two international organisations have signed the AI Impact Summit declaration, signalling broad global support for shared principles on responsible and inclusive artificial intelligence, IT minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said on Saturday. The declaration was adopted at the conclusion of the India AI Impact Summit held in New Delhi, with signatories including the US, UK, Canada, China, Denmark and Germany, the minister said.

‘Must Be Democratised’: Vaishnaw Flags ‘AI Divide’, Hails Investments At India AI Impact Summit

Speaking to reporters, Vaishnaw said participating nations have formalised principles centred on “welfare of all, and happiness of all”.“Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s human-centric AI vision been accepted by the world. Democratising Artificial Intelligence resources so AI facilities, services and technology can reach everyone in society has been accepted by all,” he said, PTI quoted. The minister added that the framework emphasises balancing economic growth with broader societal goals.“Not just economic growth, even social harmony has to be kept in mind. Safety and trust are at the centre, they have been brought among the main points,” Vaishnaw said, adding that efforts are focused on building a secure, trustworthy and robust AI ecosystem. He noted that innovation and development of human capital were among the other key areas identified for cooperation.“For all these areas, all countries have agreed to work together. Almost all countries that participated, including the US, the UK, Canada, China, Denmark, Egypt, Indonesia, and Germany… everyone has participated,” the minister said. The AI Impact Summit secured investment commitments exceeding $250 billion in infrastructure, which Vaishnaw on Friday described as a “grand success”.Participation at the event crossed five lakh visitors, reflecting strong domestic and global engagement with India’s artificial intelligence initiatives, he had said earlier. The summit brought together global policymakers, industry leaders and technology experts, positioning India as an important player in discussions on international AI governance and infrastructure development.“More than five lakh visitors participated in the exhibition, learnt a lot, and interacted with many experts from around the world. We had practically every major AI player in the world participating in large numbers. We had so many startups getting the opportunity to showcase their work. Overall, the quality of the discussion was phenomenal,” Vaishnaw said.He added that participation across ministerial dialogues, leaders’ plenaries and the inaugural sessions reflected high-quality engagement throughout the summit.Investment pledges crossed $250 billion in infrastructure-related capital and about $20 billion in venture capital and deep-tech investments, underscoring global confidence in India’s role in the emerging AI ecosystem. The summit also saw participation from global technology leaders including Google CEO Sundar Pichai, OpenAI chief Sam Altman, Microsoft vice-chair Brad Smith and Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, with discussions covering AI opportunities and risks, artificial general intelligence, governance frameworks and the future of jobs.

Perplexity seems to have joined Anthropic in ‘trolling’ Sam Altman; says No to …

Perplexity seems to have joined Anthropic in 'trolling' Sam Altman; says No to …

Perplexity may have joined Anthropic in ‘trolling’ Sam Altman’s OpenAI after the ChatGPT maker announced plans to test advertisements in the chatbot. Perplexity has reportedly confirmed that it will not introduce ads into chatbot responses. This way, the AI startup is distancing itself from OpenAI’s emerging ad-based monetisation strategy and aligning itself more closely with Anthropic’s approach to AI products. Speaking at a recent roundtable with reporters, Perplexity executives said that the AI search startup plans to rely on subscription and enterprise revenue rather than advertising, a move that appears to align with Anthropic’s recent criticism of ads in conversational AI tools.Earlier this month, Anthropic added fuel to a growing debate within the AI industry by publicly mocking OpenAI’s shift toward ads in ChatGPT through a series of Super Bowl commercials. In these ads, the company highlighted how advertising could change chatbot interactions. In one of the 30-second spots, Anthropic shows a routine fitness question being interrupted mid-response by an unsolicited promotion for shoe insoles. In another, when a user asks a chatbot how to communicate better with their mother, an ad for a mature dating service appears that connectssensitive cubs with roaring cougars.”While OpenAI has begun testing ads for US users of its free and $8-a-month ChatGPT Go tier, Perplexity is simultaneously expanding its enterprise sales push, targeting organisations and professional users instead of ad-supported growth.

What Perplexity is focusing on instead of ads

According to a Business Insider report, Perplexity is expanding its sales strategy and is now focusing on large organisations and professional users, such as finance professionals, CEOs, and doctors. The company currently has five people on its enterprise sales team but plans to increase hiring in this area. This approach pits Perplexity against companies such as Glean, which enable employees to search internal files and data using AI.The report further adds that executives said Perplexity will prioritise revenue and customer retention over metrics such as the number of questions answered. While the company did not disclose detailed financial figures, it said revenue grew 4.7 times last year, reaching $200 million in annual recurring revenue (ARR) by October 2025. Perplexity also said it will continue offering a free tier, though with certain limits. The move comes amid scepticism in Silicon Valley. At an AI conference last year, investors informally voted Perplexity as the company they would most likely bet against, citing concerns around the broader AI market. Still, Perplexity said it has been “busy building” rather than focusing on hype, with executives arguing that ads within AI responses can affect user trust. The move represents a shift for the company, which was among the early AI firms to experiment with advertising. In 2024, Perplexity CEO Aravind Srinivas said on a podcast that he expected ads to eventually become the company’s main monetisation model. “I think with advertising we could be really, really profitable,” Srinivas said in 2024.

Colaba footballers protest conversion of mud maidan to turf | Mumbai News

Colaba footballers protest conversion of mud maidan to turf

MUMBAI: Scores of football players and their coaches from Colaba-Cuffe Parade on Friday protested against the conversion of a mud layered recreational ground (RG) into artificial turf “against the wishes of the local public”.“Friday morning, the Colaba Back Garden (Sabina Chandrashekhar ground) Bachao Samiti arrived at this maidan which is located beside Cooperage,” said fishermen’s union leader Devendra Tandel, who is a member of the Samiti. The group forced the contractor to halt the “excavation work” that was in progress. The contractor complained to Colaba police which summoned the footballers for an explanation.“We pointed to clause 11 in the BMC’s permission letter which says no construction can be carried out at this site,” said Jitendra ‘Raju’ Tandel of the Samiti. “Construction of turf will reduce the size of the playing area, thereby shrinking the size of each team from 11 a side to six a side. Turf also causes grievous injuries as compared to a fall in the mud. Who will foot our hospital bills?”The Samiti alleged that state assembly speaker MLA Rahul Narwekar, his brother Makrand, a three-term local BJP corporator, and Rachna Narwekar were driving the project. However, Makrand Narwekar told TOI that the objection was “intentional” and “only by a specific set of people”. “They are making this a political issue when actually it is meant to benefit the entire locality. We also can bring hundreds of residents who are genuinely interested in having a facility as such. Astroturf access in most areas is paid, while this will be totally free of cost. The BMC will not be charging anyone for using it,” said Narwekar.Civic officials said that all permissions were in place. “We have all papers to indicate that nothing were done unlawfully,” said an officer.Meanwhile Shiv Sena (UBT) MLA Aaditya Thackeray wrote to Sarah Thomas, chairperson of Garden Sports & Recreation Society, which is implementing the project, to reconsider the move, saying, “A few years ago there was a proposal to construct a swimming pool in this garden… which we scrapped after considering opposition from local citizens. I have now learnt of the proposal to lay astroturf on the ground. Several residents have reached out to me to express opposition, and they feel it should continue to remain a mud ground. The present surface allows children to play freely…” Another footballer Saurabh Meher said, “No players or residents were consulted. Turf will alter the natural mud maidan which has spawned national level footballers. It is our only access to proper practice for big matches. We have complained to BMC’s A ward saying that construction violates the mandate of beautification.”

Gokul raises price of buffalo milk by Rs 2 per litre | Mumbai News

Image Used For Representative Purpose Only

MUMBAI: Gokul Dairy has increased the price of full cream milk (buffalo milk) by Rs 2 per litre, from Rs 74 to Rs 76 from today Feb 21.Cow milk and other variants remain unchanged at present, though a subsequent hike is not ruled out.Gokul Dairy’s managing director Yogesh Godbole told TOI, “The increase was necessitated by extreme shortage of green fodder [for milch animals] in the state. We have witnessed almost 10% drop in fodder availability in one month. Also, we have helped farmers by increasing the procurement price by Rs 3 per litre for buffalo milk (in one-rupee increments since Sept 2025) and Rs 2 for cow milk. However, we are not raising the sale price of cow milk as yet. We will determine the future course of action later. We are absorbing losses since five months, but after a certain limit, it is not sustainable.” Godbole said there was immense competition in the cow milk sector. “We did not intend to hike rates this month but the fodder situation landed upon us. Otherwise we were protecting the consumer so far. Climate change resulted in an early monsoon in May 2025 itself so we lost much of the fodder season.”

475-year-old Vasai cathedral wins UNESCO Award for conservation | Mumbai News

475-year-old Vasai cathedral wins UNESCO Award for conservation

MUMBAI: A community-funded effort to restore a 475-year-old Cathedral in Vasai has reaped a rich reward. The conservation project of Our Lady of Grace Cathedral in Papdy village received the prestigious Award of Merit at the 2025 UNESCO Asia-Pacific Awards for Cultural Heritage Conservation announced in Bangkok Friday. China and Japan won top honours. The stone structure, built without cement, has weathered centuries of wear and tear to emerge stronger and immensely beautiful. The cost of the restoration was approximately Rs 4.5 crore, and the local population contributed with an open heart. The UNESCO citation read, “The conservation of the Our Lady of Grace Cathedral, a tangible testament to the establishment of Catholicism in Maharashtra, is noteworthy for reviving a sixteenth-century structure that embodies the architectural legacy of the Portuguese colonial architecture in India. Of particular significance is the thoughtful restoration of the cathedral’s interior… The skilled use of traditional craftsmanship, especially in the hand-carved renewal of liturgical elements, successfully reinstated the interior as a living place of worship and communal devotion. Despite a modest budget, the project was realised through the parish community’s sustained engagement and donation network…”Conservation architect Ainsley Lewis executed the project. He told TOI, “Working with a community is always a challenge. This engagement required negotiation with all stakeholders. Every large structural intervention to the tiniest detail had to be explained. We would often back it up with philosophies of conservation. The outcome of this process was truly, a fulfilling experience.”Using appropriate technique and material, Lewis restored the roof, facade, corridors, colonnade and interiors. Years of well-meaning but erroneous repair had to be undone. The Cathedral’s former priest Fr John Furgose said work lasted from 2023-24. He said, “The Mangalore tiled roof was leaking, and the entire structure including bell tower was in a state of disrepair. The Cathedral is built of stone, using mud, since there were no bricks or cement at the time. (Former) Archbishop Felix Machado took keen interest in restoring it and I launched the task.”Parishioner Jerry D’Cunha, himself an architect, networked with Lewis. “We are very happy and proud that the Cathedral has won this recognition. Now hopefully more people will visit Vasai looking to explore this UNESCO award winning site,” D’Cunha laughed. The year 2025 was the silver jubilee of the awards. The highest Award of Distinction went to the Iwami Ginzan Library Conservation Project in Oda, Japan, and the Sihang Warehouse Conservation Project in Shanghai, China. The seven-member international jury also recognised outstanding projects across Malaysia, Nepal and Vanuatu. The winners were selected from 90 entries across 16 countries, a record number of applications. They were chosen based on understanding of place, technical achievement, and sustainability and impact.

Lula calls India ‘digital superpower’, backs stronger strategic ties

President Lula described the meeting as a partnership between two major global powers of the Global South and highlighted the strategic importance of India–Brazil relations.“My dear friend Modi, it is a reason of happiness for me to return to this country for the sixth time. The meeting between India and Brazil is a meeting of superlatives. We are not just the two biggest democracies of the Global South. This is a meeting of a digital superpower with a renewable energy superpower,” Lula said.He said both countries share common positions on global governance and multilateral cooperation.“A turbulent global scenario requires our countries to strengthen and deepen our strategic dialogue. India and Brazil are crucial voices at the UN, the WTO and G20,” he said.Lula came to India on a state visit accompanied by a large delegation, including top Brazilian business leaders, who are expected to participate in a business forum aimed at expanding commercial partnerships.Earlier in the day, he was accorded a ceremonial welcome at Rashtrapati Bhavan and held delegation-level talks with PM Modi at Hyderabad House. He also paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Rajghat. The visit follows PM Modi’s trip to Brasilia in July 2025, the first visit by an Indian prime minister to Brazil in over five decades, and reflects growing momentum in bilateral ties as both countries seek to strengthen trade, technology and strategic cooperation.

Recurrent miscarriages: A medical expert gives a perspective | India News

Recurrent miscarriages: A medical expert gives a perspective

Recurrent miscarriages can be deeply distressing for couples trying to conceive, often leaving them searching for answers and hope. “While many couples experience the emotional pain of repeated pregnancy loss, the underlying cause is not the same in every case. Recurrent miscarriages can result from a variety of factors, and treatment must be tailored to the specific cause,” says Dr Sreevani Kotha, Director and Head, 9M Fertility by Ankura Hospital. She further adds that recurrent pregnancy loss is when a woman experiences two or more consecutive pregnancy losses before 20 weeks of gestation.

What causes recurrent miscarriage?

There can be several reasons for recurrent miscarriage, and the underlying cause is not the same in every case. One of the most common causes is an abnormal number of chromosomes in the developing fetus. When this occurs, the body recognizes that the pregnancy is not developing normally and may terminate it spontaneously. “Although chromosomal abnormalities are more frequently associated with advanced maternal age, they can also occur in younger women,” says Dr Sreevani. In some cases, the uterus may not be conducive to healthy implantation. Structural abnormalities, including fibroids and polyps, can be responsible in such situations. Endocrine problems such as thyroid disorders and diabetes can also lead to spontaneous pregnancy loss. “In a specific autoimmune condition called antiphospholipid syndrome, the body produces antibodies that increase the risk of blood clot formation. This can interfere with the placenta and affect the developing pregnancy,” Dr Sreevani adds, citing another cause.Apart from the above medical issues, environmental factors can also have a significant impact on pregnancy. Smoking, alcohol consumption, excess body weight, and high levels of stress are known to contribute to recurrent pregnancy loss. “In modern times, the effect of environmental factors on pregnancy has increased multifold. These factors don’t just influence recurrent pregnancy loss but also affect the overall fertility rates,” explains Dr Sreevani.

How to recognise the signs of pregnancy loss

Signs such as vaginal bleeding, severe abdominal pain or cramping, persistent back pain, passage of tissue, or a sudden decrease in pregnancy symptoms may indicate a possible pregnancy loss and require immediate medical consultation. Women experiencing dizziness or weakness should also seek prompt evaluation.

Treatment options for recurrent pregnancy loss

“Treatment of recurrent pregnancy loss depends on identifying and addressing the underlying cause. A thorough assessment is carried out with an individualized approach, which may include blood tests for hormonal and autoimmune disorders, genetic testing, and imaging studies such as ultrasound to evaluate the uterus,” says Dr Sreevani. Management may include correcting uterine abnormalities through surgery, treating hormonal imbalances, managing chronic medical conditions, or using medications in cases of autoimmune disorders. Lifestyle modifications such as maintaining a healthy weight, avoiding smoking and alcohol, and managing stress are equally important. “In selected individual cases where conventional measures are not sufficient, advanced assisted reproductive treatments may prove helpful for couples in achieving a successful pregnancy,” assures Dr Sreevani. Recurrent pregnancy loss can be emotionally distressing, but it is not uncommon. Modern medical science has evolved multifold, and scenarios that appeared difficult a decade ago can often be effectively managed today. By staying aware and seeking timely care, couples can attain positive outcomes,” concludes Dr Sreevani.Disclaimer: The views and opinions expressed in the story are independent professional judgment of the experts and we do not take any responsibility for the accuracy of their views.
