MS Dhoni not to play all IPL 2026 matches? Massive update emerges from CSK camp | Cricket News

MS Dhoni not to play all IPL 2026 matches? Massive update emerges from CSK camp

NEW DELHI: As the IPL 2026 season approaches, the big question around MS Dhoni’s future has come up once again: will the Chennai Super Kings legend play every match this season? Dhoni, who will turn 45 later this year, is set to be available for CSK, but it looks unlikely that he will feature in all games.

Jay Shah: Kapil Dev deserves more credit for 1983 World Cup triumph

A top CSK source confirmed his availability. “We can confirm this much that he is coming to Chennai and had confirmed his availability for the season,” the source told PTI. However, the same source added, “Whether he will play all games or not is something we can’t say at the moment.”With the arrival of Sanju Samson, CSK now have multiple wicketkeeping options, which could reduce Dhoni’s workload. Samson is expected to keep wickets in matches where Dhoni sits out, while other keepers like Urvil Patel and young recruit Kartik Sharma are also in the squad. In recent seasons, Dhoni’s role with the bat has been limited due to the Impact Player rule, and he has mostly played as a finisher in specific situations. Managing his fitness will also be important, as he has dealt with knee and back issues in recent years, and the physical demands of wicketkeeping can be tough with packed schedules. However, Dhoni is likely to play most of CSK’s home matches at Chepauk, where his presence still excites fans like no other. His bond with the Chennai crowd remains strong, and every time he walks onto the field, it sends the stadium into a frenzy.

Mar‑a‑Lago gunman Austin Tucker Martin was a painter, obsessed with drawing scenes from local golf courses

A 21‑year‑old North Carolina man who was shot and killed early on Sunday while attempting to enter the secure perimeter of US President Donald Trump’s Mar‑a‑Lago estate was known among friends and on social media for creating dark, moody watercolours and sketches of golf courses, according to the New York Post. The man was identified by authorities as Austin Tucker Martin, who lived in Cameron, North Carolina and had been reported missing by his family days before the incident. US Secret Service agents and a Palm Beach County sheriff’s deputy shot him after he breached the inner security perimeter at Mar‑a‑Lago on Sunday morning.Law enforcement officers say Martin drove into the secure area near the north gate at about 1.30 am local time, carrying a shotgun and a fuel can. Officers ordered him to drop the items. When he lowered the fuel can but then raised the shotgun in a threatening position, agents and the deputy opened fire, killing him at the scene. Trump and first lady Melania Trump were not at the estate at the time, as they were in Washington.

Black and white sketches of golf courses

Source: Facebook

Martin’s social media accounts showed artwork that focused on golf courses in the Sandhills region of North Carolina, including Quail Ridge Golf Course, roughly 15‑20 miles north of his home, according to reporting on his online posts. The sketches and watercolours were often in bleak tones and largely monochrome, suggesting a deep interest in the landscapes of the courses rather than social or personal pictures.Donald Trump is a keen golf player and often plays at golf courses he owns in the US and abroad. The POTUS has said golf is his main form of exercise and has been photographed on the greens many times.Martin’s social media posts showed mostly his artwork and not much else, and investigators have not said that his interest in art had anything to do with what he did at Mar‑a‑Lago or explained why he tried to enter the secure area.Officials found a box for the firearm in Martin’s vehicle and believe he may have obtained the weapon during his journey south from North Carolina. The FBI is now leading the inquiry into the incident, as confirmed by director Kash Patel.

Mexico’s most wanted drug lord El Mencho killed in army raid; highways blocked, flights cancelled in cartel retaliation – top developments

Mexico’s most wanted drug lord El Mencho killed in army raid; highways blocked, flights cancelled in cartel retaliation – top developments

Mexico’s most wanted drug lord, Nemesio Rubén Oseguera Cervantes, better known as “El Mencho”, was killed in a military operation that unleashed coordinated violence across several states, paralysed transport networks and prompted security advisories from the United States and Canada. The Mexican army said the 59-year-old leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel was wounded during a clash with soldiers in Tapalpa, Jalisco, and died while being flown to Mexico City. The operation marks one of the most consequential blows to organised crime in Mexico since the arrests of Joaquín Guzmán, known as “El Chapo”, and Ismael Zambada García, co-founders of the Sinaloa cartel. Within hours of the announcement, cartel gunmen set vehicles ablaze, blocked highways and clashed with security forces in what authorities described as retaliatory violence spreading across at least five states.

What happened in Tapalpa

According to Mexico’s Secretariat of National Defence, security forces from multiple federal branches carried out the operation in the town of Tapalpa in western Jalisco. The army said Oseguera was wounded in a firefight and later died during an air transfer to Mexico City.Officials stated that six suspected cartel gunmen were killed during the operation, while three soldiers were wounded and taken to hospital in the capital. Two suspects were arrested. Authorities also seized a cache of weapons, including rocket launchers capable of taking down aircraft and destroying armoured vehicles. An AP report cited a federal official who confirmed that the killing occurred during a military operation in Jalisco. The official spoke on condition of anonymity as they were not authorised to comment publicly. The United States had offered a reward of up to 15 million dollars for information leading to Oseguera’s arrest. In February, the Trump administration designated the cartel as a foreign terrorist organisation.

US and Canada issue travel advisories

Following the unrest, the US State Department urged American citizens in several regions to take shelter. In a statement posted on social media, it said: “Mexico: Due to ongoing security operations and related road blockages and criminal activity, U.S. citizens in the following locations should shelter in place until further notice: Jalisco State (including Puerto Vallarta, Chapala, and Guadalajara), Tamaulipas State (including Reynosa and other municipalities), areas of Michoacan State, Guerrero State, and Nuevo Leon State. The advisory recommended avoiding areas around law enforcement activity, minimising unnecessary movements, monitoring local media, following instructions from authorities and contacting emergency services by dialling 911 if required.Canada’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it was closely monitoring the “serious and rapidly evolving security situation” in Jalisco, particularly in Guadalajara and Puerto Vallarta. Canadian citizens were advised to adhere to shelter-in-place orders in affected areas.

Wave of retaliatory violence

Soon after news of the raid emerged, gunmen blocked more than 20 roads in western Jalisco using burning cars and trucks. The unrest spread beyond Tapalpa to Guadalajara and the tourist hub of Puerto Vallarta, and later to neighbouring states including Michoacan and Guanajuato. In Guanajuato, authorities reported fires at pharmacies and convenience stores. “No injuries have been reported, but there has been property damage,” the state’s Security and Peace Secretariat said, adding that a joint operation involving the army, National Guard and municipal police had been deployed.Residents described scenes of panic. Maria Medina, who works at a gas station that was set on fire, said armed men ordered people to leave. “I thought they were going to kidnap us. I ran to a taco stand to take cover with the people there,” she told AFP.Jalisco Governor Pablo Lemus Navarro urged residents to remain indoors and said public transport services would be suspended “until the situation is under control.” He warned that the violence had spread to at least five states and advised people to avoid travelling on highways. In Guadalajara, streets were largely deserted as shops, pharmacies and petrol stations shut their doors.

Sporting events and public life disrupted

The security situation forced authorities to cancel public events and sporting fixtures. Jalisco, which is scheduled to host four matches of the 2026 World Cup this summer, suspended all large gatherings on Sunday and cancelled in-person classes on Monday.Multiple football matches were also postponed, including fixtures from the Clausura tournament of Mexico’s Liga MX, women’s league games and an international friendly between Mexico and Iceland.Airlines were affected as well. US and Canadian carriers cancelled dozens of flights to Mexico amid concerns over the violence. Air Canada suspended flights to Puerto Vallarta, a popular resort destination on the Pacific coast.

International reaction and political pressure

US Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau welcomed the killing and described Oseguera as “one of the bloodiest and most ruthless drug kingpins.”“This is a great development for Mexico, the US, Latin America, and the world,” he added. The raid comes amid renewed pressure from US President Donald Trump on Mexico to curb the flow of drugs, especially fentanyl, into the United States. Trump has repeatedly threatened tariffs on Mexican exports, arguing that Mexico has not done enough to combat trafficking. The US Justice Department charged Oseguera in 2022 with leading efforts to manufacture and distribute fentanyl for importation into the United States. An indictment alleged that his organisation operated in several Mexican states, including Jalisco, Colima and Veracruz, with a broader national presence.

The rise of CJNG

Formed in 2009, the Jalisco New Generation Cartel grew rapidly into one of Mexico’s most violent and powerful criminal organisations. According to US authorities, it was responsible for trafficking cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine and fentanyl into the United States.Oseguera, a former police officer, led the group as it expanded its territorial control and influence, frequently engaging in brazen confrontations with security forces. The US Drug Enforcement Administration described CJNG as among the “most powerful and ruthless criminal organisations” operating in Mexico.Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum called for calm following Sunday’s events and said the federal government was coordinating with state authorities to restore order. While the killing of El Mencho represents a milestone in Mexico’s fight against organised crime, the swift and violent backlash underlines the enduring capacity of cartels to disrupt public life and challenge the state. Security forces remain deployed across affected regions as authorities attempt to stabilise the situation.

Washington Sundar involved in fiery clash with David Miller: Watch

A heated moment between Washington Sundar and David Miller took place during the drinks break of South Africa’s innings at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Team India captain Suryakumar Yadav and the umpire stepped into the spot to cool down the moment.

On Sunday (February 22), India faced South Africa for their opening match of the Super 8 match of the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2026. Both of the teams qualified in this phase of the tournament as the group toppers of their respective groups.

Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh took three early wickets

Ahead of the match, Team India, the defending champion and the co-host of the 2026 T20 World Cup, was considered the favorite to win the match. Though, multiple cricket experts predicted that the Proteas had enough firepower to break India’s undisputed streak in the competition.

Winning the toss, South Africa went to bat first. In the initial stage of the first innings, Indian bowlers were at the top of their game, thanks to a brilliant spell by the pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah and Arshdeep Singh.

Both of the seamers quickly dismissed the top 3 batters of the South African lineup. While Bumrah clinched the scalps of Quinton de Kock and Ryan Rickelton, Singh took the wicket of South Africa captain Aiden Markram.

South Africa bounced back timely

With 3 batters down, Dewald Brevis, whose form was under scrutiny before the match, and experienced batter David Miller dragged the team into the contest. Brevis missed a well-deserved half-century only by 5 runs. The emerging batter registered 45 off 29 with 3 fours and three 6s. On the other end, Miller delivered a 63-run knock off 35 balls, followed by Tristan Stubbs’ unbeaten 44.

After the 14th over, during the drinks break of the innings, the situation got tense when the Indian spin bowling all-rounder Washington Sundar and Miller got involved in a heated conversation. Both cricketers were spotted throwing words at each other. The situation got settled after the interference made by Yadav and the umpire.

How did Washington Sundar and David Miller involve themselves in the situation?

But how did they find themselves in the situation? It is believed that Miller, who was in the non-striker’s end, was repeatedly going out of the crease, which might have forced Washington Sundar to throw some comments on the opposing batter. In reply, the batter also did not choose to hold back.

Washington Sundar got to play the crucial match against South Africa in place of the vice-captain, Axar Patel, who is another spin-bowling all-rounder in the squad.

Sundar’s inclusion did not prove effective enough for the Men in Blue, as he remained wicketless after delivering only 2 overs, leaking 17 runs at an economy rate of 8.5. Despite early setbacks, South Africa bounced back well and put a total of 187 runs in 20 overs.

5 bullets recovered from IIT-Bombay hostel bag; Bihar visitor held | Mumbai News

MUMBAI: Police arrested a college dropout from Bihar, Anand Chaudhary (23), from IIT-Bombay’s hostel premises on Feb 19 for possession of five live 7.65mm bullets that were found in a bag belonging to a friend who is a first-year IIT BTech student. “The friend was aware about the bullets worth Rs 3,500 in his bag. He did not object as it is considered normal in their hometown of Samastipur in Bihar,” said an officer, adding they suspect the IITian wanted to show off the ammunition to his roommates. The bullets were found on Feb 19 when IIT-B security personnel searched rooms in hostel number 1 for alcohol bottles after a fight broke out between two students, who were allegedly drunk. No weapon was found, said police.Police said Anand Chaudhary (23) arrived in Mumbai on February 12 to celebrate Valentine’s Day with his girlfriend, and requested his childhood friend to allow him to stay in the IIT-B hostel as a guest. He allegedly kept the bullets in his friend’s bag the same day. “On February 14, Chaudhary, his girlfriend, and the IITian went out for a movie and dinner. The friend then returned to the hostel alone,” said the police officer. In his police complaint, IIT-B security sub-inspector Amod Karanje said: “On February 19, around 1.30pm, Sham Golvinde of QRT team contacted our duty officer and informed that there was an altercation between some students on the ground floor of Hostel No. 1…over exchange of money. A few of the students smelled of alcohol… As drinking alcohol is prohibited on the campus, the IIT security team, including K P Sahu, vigilance, and QRT teams, searched their rooms and found liquor bottles as well as five live cartridges in the front pocket of a student’s bag. The student said that his friend, Chaudhary, had kept it in the bag there during his visit on February 12.”The same day, Chaudhary arrived at the hostel to meet his friend, and was apprehended by the IIT-B security and later handed over to Powai police. In a statement released by IIT-B, the administration clarified that the bullets were brought to the campus by a visitor of a student residing in the hostel. “Both of them are childhood friends. This came to our knowledge when two students had a physical altercation in the hostel and the security came into the picture. One of the students was found to be in a drunken state and as part of the standard process, the security checked his room and found liquor bottles. When they did further inspection of the room they found live ammunition (bullets) in the room. No weapon was found.
