The relationship between Pakistan and Bangladesh is hinted to take a new turn after some significant comments made by the head of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Mohsin Naqvi, who is also an interior minister of the nation.
In a fresh statement, Naqvi claimed that only because of the President of Sri Lanka, Anura Kumara Dissanayake, they withdrew their boycott of the India match stance. Mohsin Naqvi called Dissanayake the “Real Hero.”
Through an official statement on social media platforms, the Government of Pakistan informed that they would not take the field on February 15 to play against India. The official statement was believed to be heavily influenced by Naqvi.

The PCB chief held a meeting with Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to discuss the situation after the snubbing of Bangladesh from the T20 World Cup 2026.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) ejected the Bangladesh cricket team from the flagship tournament as they refused to travel to India for their 2026 T20 World Cup group matches, citing ‘safety and security’ concerns.
The council gave an ultimatum to the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) to rethink their decision, but the BCB officials remained strong in their position only to be thrown out of the tournament.
As soon as the ICC dismissed Bangladesh from the T20 World Cup 2026, Pakistan came into the scenario, creating a fresh tension before the beginning of the competition. Pakistan stated that they would participate in the tournament but would not play against India.
To ease the matter, ICC held a meeting with PCB in the presence of Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Malaysian cricket representatives. The meeting proved fruitful. After the discussions, Pakistan took a U-turn and went to play the February 15th match with India in Colombo.
A couple of days later, after the India vs Pakistan match, Mohsin Naqvi revealed that only because of a phone call from the Sri Lankan president, Anura Kumara Dissanayake, they reversed their boycott call.
“You were the actual hero because of you 2 billion people were entertained. It’s only because of you we played the match. As soon as the Prime Minister received the call, he called me up and said there is no more issue, and the President has called me, and we have to play the match,” Mohsin Naqvi said, thanking the Sri Lankan President.
According to media reports, Dissanayake was concerned about the financial losses if the India vs Pakistan game was cancelled. Additionally, in the recent past, Sri Lanka travelled to Pakistan to play matches in an effort to repolish their relation with Pakistan.

In the past, organisers have often failed to control such protests, which escalated and spread widely, causing deterioration of law and order on university campuses,” the order stated.DU proctor Manoj Kumar said, “There is no specific reason behind fixing the duration at one month.”
Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has called for former Pakistan skipper Imran Khan to be treated with dignity and proper care, amid growing concern over the latter’s health in prison.Ganguly’s remarks follow a joint appeal by 14 former international captains from five Test-playing nations urging the Pakistan government to ensure improved prison conditions and appropriate medical attention for the World Cup-winning leader. “They have done the right thing. So, I’m sure Imran Khan must be looked after and respected,” Ganguly told reporters.

They stressed that someone of his stature deserves humane treatment, medical care from specialists of his choosing, regular family access, and fair legal proceedings without delay.The appeal underscored cricket’s long-standing role in fostering respect beyond rivalry, urging authorities to uphold principles of decency and justice. Gavaskar described the situation as “terrible,” noting their long-standing friendship that predates their on-field contests.Supporters claim Khan has lost 85 per cent vision in his right eye and faces limited access to family and personal doctors. He and his wife, Bushra Bibi, have been jailed since August 2023, and his recent convictions amount to a cumulative 31-year sentence.

AHMEDABAD: Gujarat’s electoral strength contracted 13.4% to 4.4 crore voters on completion of a special intensive revision (SIR) that saw 77 lakh-odd names being deleted from the 2025 rolls and 9.5 lakh new electors getting added to the final list published Tuesday. The double-digit percentage decline caps two rounds of scrutiny, starting with 73.7 lakh deletions when the draft rolls were published last Dec after updating mortality records, migration data and incorrect registrations. Another 3.9 lakh names were removed before the final rolls were put out. Between the publication of the draft and final rolls, the electorate expanded 1.3%, a large section of them first-time voters. Around 40 lakh voters in the unrevised 2025 rolls were found to have permanently shifted, 18 lakh were dead, 9.8 lakh couldn’t be traced to their registered addresses, and 3.8 lakh had duplicate voter cards.Another 1.9 lakh voters’ names in Gujarat were omitted for other reasons. Based on objections and further verification after the draft rolls were published, another 3.9 lakh names were deleted from the rolls.At 49.1 lakh, Ahmedabad district has most voters in GujaratAhmedabad topped the state with 49.1 lakh voters in the final rolls, up from 48 lakh in the draft list. The district also recorded the highest number of additions at 1.5 lakh new electors. In percentage terms, Dang registered the highest proportional increase at 2.15%, although its total voter base stands at 1.9 lakh. Other districts with notable percentage growth were Porbandar (2.1%), Jamnagar (2%), Botad (1.9%), Chhota Udepur (1.9%) and Gandhinagar (1.8%).Surat, Vadodara and Rajkot reported substantial additions, reflecting migration patterns and youth enrolment. Surat added 1 lakh-odd voters while removing 85,734 names, the highest among cities.
MUMBAI: Even as property prices continued to rise at a faster pace – 2.2 % in the Dec quarter, rental demand declined by 2.4% quarter-on-quarter across India, indicating a market adjusting to yield compression rather than a broad-based slowdown, Magicbricks said in a report. Chennai emerged as the top market in terms of gross rental yields at 4.16%, followed by Ahmedabad at 3.98% and Hyderabad at 3.93%. Bengaluru and Kolkata reported similar yield levels at 3.88% each. “A key structural takeaway is the sustained outpacing of rental growth by capital value appreciation across cities, resulting in visible yield compression,” analysts at the firm said.
NEW DELHI: Despite the surge in gold and silver imports upsetting the trade balance, the trends for the two precious metals are very different. With the average price of gold rising nearly 25% on a year-on-year basis to $94,554 a kg during April-Dec, buyers became cautious, resulting in demand falling. Data released by the commerce department slowed gold import volume dipped 18.3% to 522 tonnes during the nine-month period. But higher unit value meant that the value of imports was 1.8% higher at $49.4 billion. In contrast, despite silver price (unit value) soaring 46.7% to $1,357 a kg, imports shot up 56% to 5,727 tonnes. As a result, silver imports more than doubled in April-Dec to $7.8 billion against $3.4 billion in nine-month period in 2024. A part of the reason is industrial use for silver, whereas gold is seen more as an investment instrument.
Salman Khan‘s father Salim was admitted to a hospital in Mumbai on Tuesday, February 17.
