Veteran Hollywood star Robert Duvall, known for his iconic performances in The Godfather and Apocalypse Now, has died at the age of 95. His death on Sunday was confirmed by his wife, Luciana Duvall, on Monday.“Yesterday we said goodbye to my beloved husband, cherished friend, and one of the greatest actors of our time. Bob passed away peacefully at home,” she said in a statement.“To the world, he was an Academy Award-winning actor, a director, a storyteller. To me, he was simply everything,” she added, remembering his passion for acting, good food and conversation.

Oscar winner with a six-decade career

Blunt-spoken, prolific and famously averse to Hollywood glitz, Duvall built a career spanning more than six decades. He won the Academy Award for Best Actor in 1983 for his performance in Tender Mercies, where he played a washed-up country singer seeking redemption.He also received six other Oscar nominations over the course of his career and seamlessly transitioned between lead and supporting roles. Later, he also stepped behind the camera as a director.

Iconic roles that defined cinema

Among his most memorable characters was the soft-spoken and loyal mob lawyer Tom Hagen in the first two installments of The Godfather. Pune: The Inspector General of Registration and Stamps (IGR) on Monday scheduled March 3 as the next hearing date for Amadea Enterprises LLP’s appeal chellenging the stamp duty shortfall and penalty in connection with the Mundhwa land deal.Amadea, in which Digvijay Patil and Parth Pawar (son of the late Ajit Pawar) are partners, owes a stamp duty shortfall of Rs 21 crore for a sale deed executed in May 2025, besides a statutory penalty of 1% per month under the Maharashtra Stamp Act.During the first hearing on Amadea’s appeal, the firm’s lawyers sought additional documents from the department and requested a month’s extension before the next hearing. “The IGR office, however, granted only 15 days, with the next hearing scheduled for March 3,” a senior official said.Registration officials emphasised that no stamp duty waiver had been granted to the firm. Since the matter is quasi-judicial, the IGR is obligated to provide a hearing once the firm contested the demand notice and refused to accept the liability.The department had earlier warned the firm that coercive recovery measures would be taken against it if dues were not cleared by Feb 10. “While internal recovery steps have already started, the final course of action will depend on the outcome of the March 3 hearing. There is no stay order, and the recovery process will continue as per procedure,” the official said.Earlier, the firm’s lawyers told TOI that the liability was unacceptable, arguing that no coercive action could be taken while the appeal was pending before the IGR. Another revenue official, however, said: “The penalty amounts to Rs 21 lakh per month, totalling Rs 1.47 crore for seven months up to Nov 2025. With the shortfall, the dues currently stand at Rs 22.47 crore, and liabilities will rise further once penalties for Dec (2025) and Jan are added.“The department had issued a demand notice last Nov, granting the firm 60 days from Dec 10 to pay the dues. The firm’s plea seeking exemption from the liability was later rejected, and the department reiterated that the full deficit and penalties must be paid. “If the dues remain unpaid after completion of due process, recovery measures under the Maharashtra Stamp Act could include attachment and auction of the firm’s movable and immovable assets,” the official added.

Australia’s innings of two contrasting halves

The opening assault led by Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head left Sri Lanka scrambling early on. The duo powered their side to 70 runs in the powerplay and stitched together a fluent 100-run partnership. At 100 in just 8.2 overs, a mammoth total of 220–240 seemed well within reach.

Head smashed 56, playing with trademark aggression, while Marsh contributed a commanding 54. Their clean striking had Australia cruising at 110/2 after 10 overs. But the tide turned dramatically in the second half. Once Head departed, Australia lost direction. They could have won in regulation time. They could have won in the first Super Over but for a last ball six by Tristan Stubbs. And then a hat-trick of sixes wasn’t enough in the second Super Over.

Rashid Khan, a leader in the dressing room and one of the most experienced players in the format, stressed the need to keep their heads up or they would go “one or two years back.”The dinner helped as well. The squad devoured Peshawari food, including Dal Bukhara (Dal Makhani) and Tandoori Chicken, to “vent their anger.” It is understandable that the Afghan squad misses home food as they travel from country to country and are stationed away from home.Ever since becoming a Full Member of the ICC, Afghanistan have never played at home and have used different training facilities to prepare for major events such as the T20 World Cup. From Dehradun at start to Sharjah now, Afghanistan have never found a home footing.

There are pockets in the national capital – such as Lajpat Nagar and Bhogal – which the refugees have called home for many years now.Some of them made the trip to the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Monday morning carrying flags and some wearing the traditional attire. Their presence, and noise, became even more important in the aftermath of the heartbreak that the team suffered less than a week ago.As it transpired, the Afghan team needed every ounce of that positive energy to go past the UAE — winning by 5 wickets with four balls remaining — and keep their T20 World Cup Super Eight hopes alive. New Zealand are still favourites to seal the second spot from the group, alongside the already qualified South Africa, if they beat Canada on Tuesday. That would render Afghanistan’s final contest against Canada as a dead rubber.

“Hoping for the best. Yes, (we) still have a little bit of hope, we can make it to the next stage and we just need to come up with a positive mindset (against Canada),” said Rashid after beating the UAE, once again stressing on the need to remain upbeat. “Next game, you never know, it’s a T20 game, we’ll have to come up with a good brand of cricket.
