Quote of the day by Novak Djokovic: ‘I always believe I can’ | Tennis News

Quote of the day by Novak Djokovic: 'I always believe I can'
Novak Djokovic (AP Photo)

Novak Djokovic’s belief did not waver, even as he walked off Rod Laver Arena defeated for the first time in an Australian Open final on 1 February. The 38-year-old Serbian lost 2-6, 6-2, 6-3, 7-5 to world No.1 Carlos Alcaraz, ending his perfect 10-0 record in Melbourne finals and denying him a record 25th Grand Slam title. Speaking immediately after the match, Djokovic made it clear that his faith in himself remains intact. “I always believe I can,” he said during his post-match media conference. “If I didn’t believe I wouldn’t be competing. It’s great that I was able to beat Jannik in five in the semifinals and really battle Carlos in four close sets.” Djokovic had stormed through the opening set with vintage authority. But Alcaraz responded with power and relentless movement, breaking early in the second set and steadily taking control. The Spaniard eventually sealed his first Australian Open title and became the youngest man in the Open era to complete a career Grand Slam. “I’m disappointed with the way I felt in the second and third after an incredible start,” Djokovic admitted. “Of course, after a loss, it’s a bitter feeling, but nevertheless, I have to be content with this result.” He also hinted at uncertainty ahead. “God knows what happens tomorrow, let alone six or 12 months.” Still, the hunger remains. “I have belief, confidence and vision to win another Slam anywhere,” he said. “It also feels good a little bit not being the favorite to win Slams.” For now, family comes first. “The best way to deal with anything after I finish a competition is to be with my family… just go back to hug my close ones.” Defeat may have come, but belief remains untouched.

Brother of teen’s killer gave gun, told her to fire: Cops | Mumbai News

Mumbai: A day after a 19-year-old woman was allegedly shot dead in Govandi by a woman who was living with her boyfriend, police on Wednesday arrested the suspect’s brother for handing her a pistol and instructing her to open fire. His friend has also been nabbed for allegedly abetting the crime.Shivaji Nagar police said the victim, Shifa Nabi Shaikh, went to confront her boyfriend, Nadeem alias Rizwan Shaikh (28), over his relationship with Tabassum Shaikh (26) at their home in Baiganwadi, Govandi, on Tuesday. A heated argument broke out. Tabassum’s brother, Sajid Shaikh (23), allegedly handed her a countrymade firearm and asked her to shoot Shifa. Tabassum allegedly fired at Shifa from point-blank range. The bullet pierced her cheek and got lodged in the skull. Shifa’s father, Nabi Shaikh, a civil contractor, told police that while he was leaving for work around 10am, Shifa said she would be stepping out to have breakfast in a while. Within an hour, Nabi’s wife, Yasmin, called him up and asked him to rush home, saying she had been told that Shifa had been shot at. After he arrived home, he learnt that Shifa had been taken to the hospital. By the time the couple reached the hospital, doctors had declared Shifa dead. The probe revealed that Shifa and Tabassum had a tiff three months ago over their relationships with Nadeem. An official said Tabassum and Sajid threatened Shifa. “Owing to the tension, Shifa’s family sent her away to their hometown in Faizabad, Uttar Pradesh. But a little later, Shifa called up her father to say she couldn’t withstand the winter there and was returning to Mumbai. She got back on Jan 12 and stayed put at her home to avoid fights with Tabassum.Charges of murder and criminal conspiracy under BNS and as well as provisions of Arms Act have been invoked against Nadeem, Tabassum, Sajid Shaikh and his friend, Kalam Choudhary (19). All four were produced in a Kurla court, which remanded them in police custody till Feb 16. Police found bloodstains, a human tooth, an empty magazine and a fired cartridge, among other materials, at the crime scene.

R Ashwin defends Pakistan’s Usman Tariq as action debate explodes at T20 World Cup | Cricket News

Pakistan’s spinner Usman Tariq (AP Photo)

NEW DELHI: Pakistan spinner Usman Tariq once again found himself at the centre of a fierce debate over his bowling action after his match-winning performance against the United States in the 2026 T20 World Cup, with veteran Indian off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin stepping in to defend bowlers amid mounting criticism online. Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW!Tariq’s distinctive “pause-and-deliver” action sparked a fresh wave of “chucking” accusations on social media despite the ICC having cleared his action twice last year.

T20 World Cup | Sahibzada Farhan on India vs Pakistan matches: ‘Not one-sided’

“Even football doesn’t allow players to pause during a penalty run-up anymore. How is this ok? Action — all good. But pause? That too while loading to deliver. This can’t be continued seriously,” Goswami posted.Ashwin, however, offered a different perspective, agreeing with the football analogy but arguing that cricket’s regulations often place disproportionate restrictions on bowlers. “Agree football doesn’t allow it! While the batter can switch-hit or reverse without informing the umpire or bowler, after committing to bat on one side, why are the restrictions only limited to the bowler?” Ashwin wrote on social media. “In fact, the bowler isn’t allowed to change the arm with which he/she bowls without informing the umpire. They should first change that rule.”Under ICC rules, a bowler’s elbow extension must not exceed 15 degrees between the arm reaching horizontal and the point of release — a guideline frequently referenced in online criticism of Tariq. The spinner has previously addressed the scrutiny, insisting that his arm bend is natural.

NEW DELHI: Left-arm spinner Gudakesh Motie broke through England’s middle order as the West Indies secured a 30-run win in their T20 World Cup match in Mumbai on Wednesday.West Indies posted 196 for 6, built around Sherfane Rutherford’s unbeaten 76, with support from Jason Holder in the final overs.England were bowled out for 166 in 19 overs in reply. They began the chase quickly, but Motie, who mixes left-arm orthodox and wrist spin, dismissed Tom Banton, Jacob Bethell and captain Harry Brook in a spell of 3 for 33.England slipped from 85 for 2 in the eighth over to 131 for 5 in the 14th when Brook was out for 17. Sam Curran tried to keep the chase alive with 43 not out from 30 balls but ran out of partners. The result gave West Indies their second win in two matches and moved them to the top of Group C in the race for the Super Eights.England started strongly as Phil Salt took 24 runs from Jason Holder’s first over, hitting two sixes and three fours to move the score to 31 without loss after two overs. Salt made 30 before being caught by Rutherford off Romario Shepherd in the fourth over.England reached 67 for 1 at the end of the powerplay, with Jos Buttler on 15 and Bethell on 20. Fans go gaga as Sherfane Rutherford, Gudakesh Motie lead West Indies to an emphatic win over England in T20 World Cup 2026

The Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai witnessed a Caribbean carnival on February 11, 2026, as the West Indies dismantled England by 30 runs in a high-stakes Group C encounter of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. In a match defined by raw power and tactical spin, the Windies overcame a disastrous start to post a formidable 196/6, ultimately bowling England out for 166. The victory not only sent the Mumbai crowd into a frenzy but also signaled the West Indies’ intent to reclaim their throne as the kings of the shortest format.

Sherfane Rutherford’s brutal assault resurrects the West Indies against England

The game began like a nightmare for the Men in Maroon. By the second over, Jofra Archer and Sam Curran had removed Shai Hope and Brandon King, leaving the Windies reeling at 8/2. However, the early tremors were merely the setup for a Sherfane Rutherford masterclass.

Rutherford, coming in with the score at 77/4, played an innings of sheer calculated aggression. While Roston Chase (34) and Shimron Hetmyer (23) provided the necessary stabilization, Rutherford provided the fireworks. He hammered an unbeaten 76 off just 42 deliveries, a knock decorated with 6 towering sixes and 9 boundaries.

His assault peaked during the death overs, where he dismantled England’s pace attack with surgical precision. Alongside Jason Holder, who chipped in with a vital 33 off 17, Rutherford powered the West Indies to a total of 196/6. The match flow shifted dramatically in the final five overs, as the Windies plundered runs at a rate exceeding 12 per over, leaving the English bowlers, particularly Will Jacks and Archer, searching for answers.

Gudakesh Motie’s spin web and disciplined bowling halt England in T20 World Cup 2026 game

Chasing 197, England started with the characteristic aggression of Phil Salt, who blazed 30 off 14 balls. At the end of the Powerplay, England sat comfortably at 67/1, looking well on track to chase down the target. However, the introduction of Gudakesh Motie completely flipped the script.

Motie, the left-arm orthodox maestro, proved to be the undoing of England’s middle order. He removed the dangerous Jacob Bethell (33) just as he was looking to anchor the chase, before dismissing Tom Banton and the English captain Harry Brook in quick succession. Motie’s spell of 3/33 acted as a stranglehold, drying up the boundaries and forcing errors.

While Sam Curran waged a lone battle with an unbeaten 43, the lack of support from the other end was glaring. Chase complemented Motie perfectly with 2/29, removing the experienced Jos Buttler just as he threatened to cut loose. The discipline of the West Indies’ bowling unit was reflected in their ability to take wickets at regular intervals, preventing any significant partnerships from forming after the 10th over.

The match concluded in the 19th over when Shamar Joseph dismissed Adil Rashid, sparking wild celebrations in the stands. With this 30-run victory, the West Indies have firmly established themselves as the team to beat in Group C.

Budget sets total expenditure at Rs 53.47 lakh crore for 2026-27 as govt balances growth with fiscal discipline: FM Sitharaman

Budget sets total expenditure at Rs 53.47 lakh crore for 2026-27 as govt balances growth with fiscal discipline: FM Sitharaman

The Union Budget for FY 2026-27 has pegged total expenditure at Rs 53.47 lakh crore, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said while replying to the discussion on the Budget in the Lok Sabha, outlining the government’s strategy of maintaining high capital spending alongside fiscal consolidation. The revised estimate for the current financial year ending March 31 has been placed at Rs 49.64 lakh crore, lower than the Rs 50.65 lakh crore projected in February 2025, PTI reported. The Budget size for FY 2024-25 stood at Rs 46.52 lakh crore. The government has projected tax receipts of Rs 44.04 lakh crore for FY27, an increase of about 8% over the previous year, even as overall expenditure continues to remain significantly higher to support growth priorities.

Tax Holidays, Safe Harbour, Incentives: Budget 2026 Pushes Investment In India, Boosts IT Sector

Record capex push and state investment support

Highlighting the government’s infrastructure-led growth strategy, Sitharaman said capital expenditure allocation has been raised to a record Rs 12.2 lakh crore. This accounts for 3.1% of GDP and is 11.5% higher than the revised estimates for FY 2025-26, she said.On the recommendation of state finance ministers, the Centre has increased 50-year interest-free capital expenditure loans under the Special Assistance to States for Capital Investment (SASCI) scheme to Rs 2 lakh crore. With this, effective capital expenditure is estimated to reach Rs 17.1 lakh crore, or about 4.4% of GDP, the minister added.

Fiscal deficit and borrowing roadmap

The government has projected fiscal deficit at 4.3% of GDP, or Rs 16.95 lakh crore, for FY27, reaffirming its fiscal consolidation path.To finance the deficit, net market borrowings from dated securities are estimated at Rs 11.7 lakh crore. The remaining financing will come from small savings and other sources, while gross market borrowings are estimated at Rs 17.2 lakh crore.Sitharaman said the government continues to focus on reducing the debt-to-GDP ratio in line with the Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management (FRBM) framework. She recalled that the government had indicated in Budget 2025-26 that it aims to bring the debt-to-GDP ratio to 50±1% by FY 2030-31.In line with that roadmap, the debt-to-GDP ratio is estimated at 55.6% in Budget Estimates for FY27, compared with 56.1% in the revised estimates for FY26.A declining debt ratio will gradually free resources for priority sector spending by reducing interest outgo, she said.

Health infrastructure and medical hub push

The finance minister said states can compete to be selected for one of five proposed regional medical hubs through PM Gati Shakti filters.States can propose integrated hubs where medical education and patient treatment infrastructure will be developed together, she said.Dedicated institutions for nursing and 10 allied health services will be set up within these hubs to support skill creation and employment. Over time, these hubs could evolve into medical tourism centres, she added.

Fertiliser availability and farm support

Addressing concerns over fertiliser availability, Sitharaman said there is sufficient stock to support farmers. The government has allocated Rs 1.71 lakh crore towards fertiliser imports to ensure continued supply and price stability, she said.

Centre-state fiscal transfers

On fund transfers to states, Sitharaman cited findings of the 16th Finance Commission, which analysed devolution between 2018-19 and 2022-23.“So, we are not the only ones claiming this. The Finance Commission itself, after studying this in detail, has stated in its report that the money which has to go from the Centre to the states, taking the years 2018–19 to 2022–23 as examples and examining them, has clearly said that whatever amount has to go from the central government to the state governments has been given,” she said.“There is no scope for any doubt in this for the states,” she added. For FY27, the states’ share in central taxes is estimated at Rs 25.44 lakh crore, an increase of Rs 2.7 lakh crore over the previous year. She also said cess and surcharge collections are used for development works across sectors and are separate from the 41% tax devolution recommended by the Finance Commission.

Trade deal politics and opposition response

The finance minister also responded to criticism from Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi regarding India’s interim trade agreement with the US.Echoing remarks made by Union Minister Kiren Rijiju, Sitharaman said, “Koi mai ka laal paida nahi hua jo humare desh ko bech de ya kharid le (no one has the audacity to sell or buy out India).”She further alleged that the Congress-led UPA government had compromised India’s position at the World Trade Organization and also criticised governance and law-and-order conditions in West Bengal.West Bengal is scheduled to go to elections in the next two months.

19 vacancies in National Medical Commission, govt admits in Rajya Sabha | India News

19 vacancies in National Medical Commission, govt admits in Rajya Sabha
Minister of state for health Anupriya Patel (ANI photo)

NEW DELHI: Nearly one-third of posts in the National Medical Commission (NMC), the country’s apex medical education regulator, are lying vacant, the Centre informed the Rajya Sabha on February 10, 2026.Replying to a question by Shri Vivek K. Tankha, minister of state for health Anupriya Patel said the sanctioned strength of the NMC and its four autonomous boards is 54, of which 19 posts are vacant. At present, only 35 positions are filled across the Commission and its boards.Within the Commission itself, out of 33 sanctioned posts — comprising the Chairman, ex-officio members and part-time members — 28 are in position. The Secretary’s post is filled. However, vacancies are more visible across the autonomous boards responsible for regulating undergraduate and postgraduate medical education, medical assessment and accreditation, and ethics and medical registration.Parliamentary data indicate that some boards are functioning with only a limited number of members in place, with several President and whole-time member posts unfilled. These boards play a crucial role in approving medical colleges, monitoring standards of training and enforcing professional ethics.Addressing concerns about functioning amid vacancies, the Commission informed the government that “appropriate institutional mechanisms” are in place to ensure continued discharge of statutory responsibilities under the National Medical Commission Act, 2019.The ministry added that filling up vacancies is a continuous process and action is taken as per provisions of the Act, including issuing advertisements from time to time to fill vacant posts. The disclosure comes at a time when India is expanding its medical education capacity, increasing the number of colleges and seats, making full staffing at the regulatory level critical to maintaining standards and oversight.

Everything to know about the Seahawks Super Bowl parade 2026: when it starts and how to watch

Following the Seahawks’ dominant 29–13 victory over the New England Patriots in Super Bowl LX, the city is ready to welcome home the Lombardi Trophy. Whether you’re heading downtown or watching from home, here is your complete guide to the 2026 Championship Parade.

The Schedule: Wednesday, Feb 11

The festivities are split between a stadium ceremony and the public parade. If you don’t have a ticket for the stadium, your best bet is to find a spot along 4th Avenue early.

  • 8:30 AM: Gates open at Lumen Field for the Trophy Celebration.
  • 10:00 AM: The Official Trophy Celebration begins (Sold Out). This event features speeches from Coach Mike Macdonald and Super Bowl MVP Kenneth Walker III.
  • 11:00 AM: The Victory Parade officially kicks off from Pioneer Square.
  • 11:00 AM – 1:30 PM: The procession travels through downtown, ending near the Seattle Center.

The Parade Route

Unlike the 2014 celebration, this year’s route runs South to North, allowing fans to transition from the stadium district toward the Space Needle.

  1. Start: 4th Avenue S and S Washington Street.
  2. The Path: The team will ride on open-top vehicles directly up 4th Avenue.
  3. End: 4th Avenue and Cedar Street.

Note: No formal rally is planned at the Seattle Center after the parade, the procession will conclude once the final vehicles reach the Cedar Street intersection.

How to Watch & Follow Along

With crowds expected to exceed 1 million people, local officials are encouraging fans to watch the broadcast if they want to avoid the “sea of 12s.”

  • Live Television: KING 5 is the exclusive local broadcast partner. Coverage begins at 9:00 AM.
  • Streaming: You can watch the full ceremony and parade via the KING 5 app or KING5.com.
  • Radio: Seattle Sports 710 AM will provide live play-by-play of the parade atmosphere.

Essential Fan Tips

  • Transportation: Sound Transit and King County Metro are running on “commuter-plus” schedules, but expect heavy delays. Avoid driving into the downtown core; most cross-streets on 4th Avenue are closed until 1:30 PM.
  • Weather: Expect classic Seattle February luck, partly sunny with a high of 50°F. It’s significantly warmer than the “Big Freeze” parade of 2014, but layers are still recommended.
  • Rally Cards: Select Starbucks locations along the route are handing out exclusive “World Champions” rally cards while supplies last.

This victory marks a historic “redemption” for Seattle, coming exactly 11 years after their last meeting with the Patriots on the championship stage. Today, the city makes sure the trophy stays in the Pacific Northwest.
