As its name indicates, the trust was meant for Parsis and its trustees too belonged to the community. However, it is learnt that a few decades ago, it became a cosmopolitan trust. According to documents made available to TOI, the present trustees are Kamlesh Ghisulal Mehta, Vadappa Ramappa Kori and Vikas Champalal Mehta.“It is one of the last verdant areas in south Mumbai which has a cluster of old bungalows with servant quarters. The Pawars have been staying here for many years,” said a neighbourhood resident. Nestled amidst giant banyans and peepuls and wide roads, this is a cluster of old world Mangalore-tiled bungalows and old world politicians.“Bill Clinton had attended a lavish brunch in the garden which Pawar had hosted. Clinton had ended his term in office and was visiting Mumbai when he came to Silver Oak,” recollected another resident. Bungalow No 2, a ground-plus-one-storey structure where the Pawars stay, is in the name of Nishant Finance and Trading Company, whose director is Sadanand Bhalchandra Sule, son-in-law of the NCP leader. The trust had purchased the land way back in 1942 and currently has six bungalows and other structures occupied by tenants and lessees. The Silver Oak complex also has a tower named Palacimo. However, this building is excluded from the development agreement signed between the trust and developer.“The trust has been facing a financial crunch for the last several years and the income is barely sufficient to meet routine expenses. It is thus unable to undertake charitable activities in consonance with its objects. In order to raise funds, the only source available to the trust is the sale of development rights in respect of its properties,” said the trust. Last year, it invited offers from interested bidders for the sale of development rights.Subsequently, the trust accepted Lodha Developers’ security deposit of Rs 125 crore. In Oct last, the charity commissioner’s office granted approval for the sale of development rights. According to the agreement, the trust will receive 42.5% of the gross revenue from the development of the free sale project and a building with about 54,000 sq ft carpet area.

NCP (SP) warns of moving Bombay HC over tree-felling issue at Regional Mental Hospital in Maharashtra | Mumbai News

Thane: The alleged felling of over 400 trees at the Regional Mental Hospital now escalated into a major confrontation between the NCP (SP) and municipal authorities, with the party warning of approaching the Bombay High Court following inaction by civic officials over the loss of green cover.NCP (SP) district President Manoj Pradhan said the alleged tree cutting, despite no approval by the tree authority, violated the Maharashtra (Urban Areas) Protection and Preservation of Trees Act, 1975, the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, and the Indian Forest Act, 1927. He also pointed out that the lush green foliage in the area was home to birds such as kites, parrots, and mynas. “Senior officials of the public works department carried out the felling in blatant violation of the law, with Thane Municipal Corporation officials seemingly casting a blind eye to the action,” Pradhan alleged.

Despite repeated requests, including a site visit on Dec 8, 2025, the municipal corporation took no action. Pradhan warned that if the joint inspection and inquiry promised by the deputy commissioner and the garden department were not completed and cases not filed within eight days, the NCP (SP) would approach the HC with a contempt petition, Pradhan said on Thursday.

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei warns: ‘AI tsunami is coming’ as society is dangerously underprepared for ‘what’s about to happen’ |

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei (Image source: Wikipedia)

The world may be on the brink of a major disruption caused by artificial intelligence, according to Dario Amodei, the chief executive officer of Anthropic, a leading AI company. In a recent interview, Amodei described the rapid evolution of AI systems as an “AI tsunami” that is approaching society faster than most people realise. He said that AI is getting closer to being able to do things that people can do faster than expected, but most of the world is still not ready for what that means. There is a lot of talk right now about how AI could change jobs, industries, the economy, and the balance of power in the world. People are paying attention to Amodei’s comments because they suggest that both public knowledge and rules may not be keeping up with new technologies. The comments also show that people in the AI research community are very worried about how fast and how much innovation will change things.

What Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei meant by ‘AI Tsunami

According to Amodei, society is at a moment where powerful AI systems are moving beyond simple tasks and are beginning to perform complex functions once thought to require deep human intelligence. In an interview on a podcast with entrepreneur Nikhil Kamath, he said the world must recognise the large-scale changes ahead, rather than dismissing them as insignificant. He used the term “tsunami” to describe AI’s rapid rise, adding that many still treat it as “just a trick of the light.Amodei explained that automation is already affecting technical areas such as coding, mathematics, and scientific research. He said that AI models are increasingly handling routine and specialised work previously done by humans, potentially leading to major shifts in labour markets and business models.

‘Biggest Mistake Young People Make…’: OpenAI CEO Sam Altman Shares Blunt Take On AI At IIT Delhi

Economic and geopolitical impacts

The CEO said that the rise of advanced AI systems could have big effects on the economy and the world as a whole. He said that the spread of technology won’t be limited to one industry or sector; it could also affect jobs, global markets, and competition between countries. AI investments and tools are already influencing stock prices and investor behaviour, with some financial commentators dubbing recent market reactions the “Claude Crash,” after Anthropic’s Claude models, which are competitors to other major AI systems.Amodei said that while human-centred jobs that require empathy and interpersonal skills may persist longer, roles involving repetitive or structured cognitive tasks are likely to change first. He noted that coding may be one of the earliest areas where AI takes on a significant share of the work.

Reactions on social media platforms

People on tech forums and in online communities have been talking about what Amodei said. People on Reddit agreed with some of his warnings, saying that AI could have huge effects on the economy that would affect not just tech jobs but also many other areas. Some said that investors and markets are very worried because companies and workers are trying to figure out how AI will change their fields. The comparison to a tsunami shows how quickly and on a large scale some people think AI could grow. Even though the term is a metaphor, it shows that many people and organisations may not fully understand how quickly things are changing.

PM Modi questions NCERT lapse, Pradhan vows action

NEW DELHI: Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Thursday vowed to take action against those responsible for the reference to judicial corruption in an NCERT textbook, amid indications of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s unhappiness over what he considers to be a grave lapse.Modi is learnt to have flagged the controversial inclusion of corruption among judiciaries in the theme dealing with problems facing administration of justice in the new NCERT Class VIII social science texbook. “What are we teaching Class VIII children about judicial corruption?” sources quoted the PM as saying at the meting of the Union Cabinet on Tuesday. As the NCERT scrambled to stem the fallout from the Supreme Court’s fury over the issue, taking off the book’s e-version from its website and figuring out ways to get hold of the 32 hard copies that had been sold, Pradhan offered an unconditional apology. He affirmed respect for the judiciary while promising to fix accountability and take action against those who drafted the controversial chapter. The issue centres on Chapter 4 — “Role of the Judiciary in Our Society” — in the new social science textbook (Part 2) brought out by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT). Edited by Michel Danino and Alok Prasanna, the chapter listed corruption, massive case pendency and shortage of judges as challenges faced by the judicial system. The controversy escalated on Thursday when the Supreme Court observed that there appeared to be a “well-orchestrated conspiracy” to defame the judiciary and imposed a “blanket ban” on the NCERT book, ordering that all physical and digital copies be seized.Meanwhile, NCERT, when asked, said the e-version of the textbook was “not uploaded online”.“Thirty-two physical copies were sold before distribution was halted” — a figure also cited by the solicitor general in court. The council to a question on how it was tracking and recalling the already-sold books, a senior NCERT official said, “As all the books have been sold through NCERT depots, they were tracked and majority of them have been already recalled.” The chapter will now be rewritten in consultation with appropriate authorities and made available from the 2026–27 academic session. On the top court’s observations, Pradhan said he was “deeply saddened by what had happened, stressed that there was no intention to insult the judiciary” and added that “an inquiry would be conducted to identify those responsible”. He added that circulation of the textbooks was immediately put on hold once the issue came to light and that the govt would fully comply with the Supreme Court’s directions.Following stern remarks from the SC that it would not allow “anyone on earth” to tarnish the judiciary’s integrity, NCERT pulled the textbook from its website. The council on Wednesday apologised for “inappropriate content” and said the chapter would be rewritten in consultation with appropriate authorities before being reissued, even as officials said tighter review mechanisms for future textbooks are now being examined.
