Delhi govt working to resolve all pending problems: CM Gupta

NEW DELHI: Delhi government will work to resolve all the pending problems that the previous governments had caused, chief minister Rekha Gupta said on Monday. Gupta was addressing a gathering of BJP workers at a ‘Pravas’ event organised in North East Delhi Lok Sabha constituency. “We will work so much in Delhi that when the next election comes, whether it’s for the municipal corporation, the Lok Sabha or the Assembly, the public won’t need to say anything,” Gupta said. Whichever doorbell you ring, people will say, ‘Yes, when we voted for you last time, you did so much work in Delhi. We will elect you again and vote for you again,’ she added. The chief minister further said that from the day the Delhi BJP government was formed on February 20, 2025, till this date, “No one felt like sitting down or breathing for a single day because we know that the value of every moment of our day is tied to your dedication.” “I have come here with the government’s one-year report card. IDFC First Bank share price today: Stock opens flat a day after 16% slump on Rs 590 crore fraud

IDFC First Bank share price today: IDFC First Bank stock opened in green on Tuesday a day after its shares recorded the worst crash since March 2020. At 9:18 AM, IDFC First Bank shares were trading at Rs 70.37, up 0.47%. The steep fall came on IDFC First Bank admitting to a Rs 590 crore fraud at its Chandigarh branch related to Haryana government accounts.IDFC First Bank on Monday said it expects to stay profitable despite a Rs 590-crore impact from fraudulent transactions involving Haryana government-linked accounts, even as its shares fell 16% during the day.Addressing analysts on a conference call, Managing Director and CEO V Vaidyanathan said the irregularities were traced to employee collusion at the bank’s Chandigarh branch. He said that KPMG has been appointed to conduct a forensic audit and noted that the bank has employee dishonesty insurance coverage of up to Rs 35 crore. According to officials, the fraud stemmed from forged cheques that were cleared at the branch.“This is a specific isolated incident that happened in one branch with one client group,” Vaidyanathan said, adding that it is confined to “a particular branch in Chandigarh and is confined to a limited set of Haryana govt-linked accounts.”He ruled out any digital compromise, saying that the episode involved physical cheque manipulation. “This is a physical transaction where the cheques have been forged. This is the oldest kind of fraud probably known to banking,” he said. “This looks to us on the basis of the work we’ve done clearly a case of employee fraud,” he added, noting that funds were transferred to beneficiary accounts outside the bank.Vaidyanathan said established safeguards such as maker-checker-authoriser controls, positive pay systems for cheques, scrutiny of high-value instruments, SMS alerts and monthly account statements were in place. However, he acknowledged that collusion among employees allowed the fraud to bypass these checks. “The issue in this case is that many of these people connived in making it happen.” The bank has decided to introduce pre-approval requirements for clearing all high-value cheques. In the Haryana Assembly, Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini said on Monday that the funds involved in the IDFC First Bank Rs 590-crore fraud case will “definitely come back” and assured that appropriate action will be taken against those responsible.IDFC First Bank has suspended staff suspected of involvement. Vaidyanathan said KPMG’s forensic audit is expected to take “four to five weeks to conclude.”(Disclaimer: Recommendations and views on the stock market, other asset classes or personal finance management tips given by experts are their own. Stock market today: Nifty50 drops over 100 points; BSE Sensex goes below 83,000 on Trump tariff uncertainty

Stock market today: Nifty50 and BSE Sensex opened in red on Tuesday on weak global cues following fresh tariff threats from US President Donald Trump. While Nifty50 dropped over 100 points, BSE Sensex went below the 83,000 mark. At 9:16 AM, Nifty50 was trading at 25,608.90, down 104 points or 0.40%. BSE Sensex was at 82,935.89, down 359 points or 0.43%.Analysts said domestic markets are likely to remain range-bound with a positive undertone, supported by sector-specific momentum at home despite mixed signals from overseas markets.Dr. VK Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist, Geojit Investments Limited says, “President Trump’s State of the Union address today and the message that he would convey will be keenly watched by markets globally. The EU freezing the deal with the US in the light of the tariff changes following the US Supreme Court verdict and Trump’s warnings to countries backing away from deals indicate that the tariff drama has more in store for economies and markets. We will have to wait and watch how this drama plays out.” “Meanwhile the trend of weakness in tech stocks stemming from the potential AI impact continues. The weakness in the ADRs of Indian IT companies indicates that this segment will continue to remain under pressure.” “A positive trend in the market that will have significant bearing on the markets is the change in the FII strategy in India. FIIs have been buyers in ten out of the last seventeen trading sessions indicating their renewed interest in India. The improving corporate earnings in India is the principal reason for this change in FII stance. Given the robust macros of the Indian economy and improving corporate earnings, this FII buying trend can continue. Therefore, sectors in which FIIs have been buyers like capital goods and financials will remain resilient and the IT segment in which they have been sellers will continue to be weak. So, watch out for the stocks in these segments.”On Wall Street, stocks declined sharply on Monday as investors reacted to persistent fears about the disruptive impact of artificial intelligence on corporate earnings, along with the fallout from Friday’s US Supreme Court ruling on tariffs. The combined effect prompted a shift away from riskier assets.Asian markets mirrored the weakness at the open, pressured by anxiety over how advances in artificial intelligence could affect company profitability. Ongoing uncertainty surrounding tariffs further dampened sentiment among traders in the region. In currency markets, the US dollar remained subdued on Tuesday as Asian investors assessed the implications of renewed turbulence in US trade policy. The greenback held onto its losses as China and Japan resumed trading after holidays. Sentiment was also influenced by President Donald Trump’s warning to countries against stepping back from recently concluded trade agreements following the Supreme Court’s decision to invalidate his emergency tariffs.(Disclaimer: Recommendations and views on the stock market, other asset classes or personal finance management tips given by experts are their own. ‘Was in touch with Hafiz Saeed’: How LeT’s Shabir Ahmed Lone is linked to 8 held for plotting terror attack in India | India News

‘Was in touch with Hafiz Saeed’: How LeT's Shabir Ahmed Lone is linked to 8 held for plotting terror attack in India
Shabir Ahmed Lone behind 8 arrested linked to Bangladesh terror module

NEW DELHI: The Bangladesh-based terror module recently dismantled by Delhi Police was allegedly run by Shabir Ahmed Lone, an operative investigators say maintained direct links with senior Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) commanders.Lone was also in touch with 26/11 mastermind Hafiz Saeed and operations chief Zaki-ur-Rahman Lakhvi.Delhi Police on Monday said it had busted a terror module linked to Pakistan-based LeT handlers operating from Bangladesh, arresting eight suspects and averting what officials described as a “major untoward incident”.

Who is Shabir Ahmed Lone

Investigators describe Lone as a long-time Lashkar-e-Taiba associate who has been on security agencies’ radar for nearly two decades. He’s a resident of Ganderbal in Kashmir, currently based in Bangladesh. He was arrested in 2007 with an AK-47 rifle and grenades and was allegedly part of a planned fidayeen attack targeting a senior political leader. He spent about a decade in jail on terrorism charges before being released on bail in 2019. Officials say that after his release he fled to Bangladesh, where he re-established contact with Lashkar-e-Taiba leadership and rebuilt his network.“Initial investigations have revealed that he reconnected with the LeT leadership and re-established his organisation to carry out terrorist activities,” Special Cell Additional CP Pramod Kumar Kushwaha said.Delhi Police sources say Lone was operating the India-based module on behalf of LeT and remained in direct touch with its top commanders. His alleged contact with Hafiz Saeed places him in the upper tier of the group’s external operations network, investigators believe.According to investigators, Lone coordinated activities from Bangladesh through encrypted messaging platforms and intermediaries. He was allegedly tasked with recruiting and radicalising undocumented Bangladeshi migrants in India, arranging fake identity documents such as Aadhaar cards, and setting up logistics bases, including a rented safe house near Kolkata.Police also linked the network to anti-India posters that appeared in Delhi and Kolkata, which were allegedly printed in Kolkata after a PDF was sent from Bangladesh by Lone.

Arrests and suspected attack plans

The eight arrested suspects, picked up from Tamil Nadu and West Bengal, were allegedly working in the garment sector while concealing their identities with forged documents.Security agencies are probing whether the group was planning attacks on a temple or other crowded locations in Delhi. Alerts had earlier warned of a possible improvised explosive device (IED) strike near the Red Fort and other high-footfall areas.Authorities are also examining whether the network had any link to the November 2025 car blast near the Red Fort that killed 12 people. Lone, believed to be in Bangladesh, remains a key figure in Lashkar-e-Taiba’s cross-border recruitment and operational network targeting India.

Australia vs India, Women’s ODI Series: Schedule, Team News, Broadcast and Live Streaming Details

As the focus shifts to the 50-over format, the rivalry between Australia and India reaches a fever pitch. India enter this ODI leg with a significant psychological advantage and a 4-2 lead in the multi-format series points table, having just secured a historic 2-1 T20I series win on Australian soil.

For the hosts, this match marks the beginning of an emotional farewell. Alyssa Healy returns to the side to lead Australia in her final ODI series before retirement, adding a layer of high-stakes sentiment to an already intense battle.

AUS vs IND, Women’s ODI series: Team news

Australia Women

The narrative surrounding the Australian camp is dominated by an emotional transition. Legendary wicketkeeper-batter Alyssa Healy returns to the playing XI and the captaincy for the start of her “swansong” series. After making the shock announcement in January that she will retire from all forms of international cricket following this multi-format series, Healy opted to sit out the preceding T20Is to allow the team to prepare for the 2026 T20 World Cup under new leadership. Now, she returns to the 50-over format, where she has been most destructive, aiming to overturn India’s 4-2 series lead.

Tactically, Australia welcomes back star leg-spinner Alana King. Having been overlooked for the T20I leg, King’s inclusion is a clear intent to control the middle overs. Her ability to extract bounce and turn, even on a generally true surface like Allan Border Field, will be vital in curbing India’s aggressive stroke-makers. With Sophie Molineux serving as vice-captain and having led the side during the T20Is, the Australian leadership group remains robust. The hosts will rely heavily on Ellyse Perry and Beth Mooney to provide the batting stability that was occasionally missing during their 2-1 T20I series loss.

India Women

India enter the ODI leg with immense psychological momentum. As the reigning ODI World Cup champions, having secured their first-ever title in late 2025, they have proved they can dismantle Australia on the biggest stage. Their recent T20I series victory on Australian soil, secured by a dominant performance from Smriti Mandhana, who smashed a match-winning 82 in the decider, has only bolstered their “giant-killer” reputation.

The most significant boost for India is the return of Pratika Rawal. The 25-year-old opener, who averages a staggering 50.45 in ODIs, has finally completed her rehabilitation following a severe ankle injury sustained during the 2025 World Cup group stages. Rawal was a pillar of India’s World Cup campaign, scoring 308 runs including a crucial century against New Zealand. Her return allows India to reunite one of the most feared top-orders in the game alongside Mandhana and Shafali Verma. With Jemimah Rodrigues also in peak form, boasting an average near 50 against Australia, India’s batting lineup looks deep and resilient. Captain Harmanpreet Kaur will look to her spin twins, Sneh Rana and Deepti Sharma, to mirror the discipline shown in the T20Is and secure a historic bilateral series win on Australian soil.

‘He will lead the pack’: Trump denies US general Daniel Caine opposed potential war with Iran

'He will lead the pack': Trump denies US general Daniel Caine opposed potential war with Iran

US President Donald Trump has rejected reports that America’s top military commander, General Daniel Caine, warned against a potential war with Iran, calling the claims inaccurate and misleading. He said the reports suggesting that Caine had flagged the risks of a prolonged military campaign were “100% incorrect”. He said, “Numerous stories from the Fake News Media have been circulating stating that General Daniel Caine, sometimes referred to as Razin, is against us going to War with Iran. The story does not attribute this vast wealth of knowledge to anyone, and is 100% incorrect.”Elaborating further on Truth Social, he added, “General Caine, like all of us, would like not to see War but, if a decision is made on going against Iran at a Military level, it is his opinion that it will be something easily won. He knows Iran well in that he was in charge of Midnight Hammer, the attack on the Iranian Nuclear Development. It is a Development no longer, but rather, was blown to smithereens by our Great B-2 Bombers. Razin Caine is a Great Fighter, and represents the Most Powerful Military anywhere in the World.”The US president went on to say that if military action were ordered, Caine would be at the forefront. “He has not spoken of not doing Iran, or even the fake limited strikes that I have been reading about, he only knows one thing, how to WIN and, if he is told to do so, he will be leading the pack. Everything that has been written about a potential War with Iran has been written incorrectly, and purposefully so.”He added, “I am the one that makes the decision, I would rather have a Deal than not but, if we don’t make a Deal, it will be a very bad day for that Country and, very sadly, its people, because they are great and wonderful, and something like this should never have happened to them.”However, The Wall Street Journal has reported that Caine warned an extended confrontation “could incur significant costs to US forces and munitions stockpiles.”The move comes after thousands of people in Iran reportedly received anonymous text messages on Monday warning of possible US action and calling the American president a “man of action”, according to Iran International English citing Iranian state media. At the same time, the United States has been reinforcing its military footprint in the region, fuelling worries about a possible wider confrontation with Iran. The New York Times had earlier reported that hundreds of US servicemen have been relocated from the Al Udeid base in Qatar, citing Pentagon officials.Comparable troop and logistical movements have also been observed at American facilities in Bahrain, where the US Navy’s Fifth Fleet is headquartered, as well as in Iraq, Syria, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Jordan and the United Arab Emirates.Officials fear that the 30,000 to 40,000 American troops stationed across the region could become the Islamic Republic’s primary targets if a full-scale conflict breaks out.Meanwhile, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi is expected to meet a US delegation in Geneva on Thursday for the next round of negotiations over Tehran’s nuclear programme. The two sides have already held two rounds of talks this month aimed at securing a deal.
