'Sangh does not seek popularity or power': RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat

NEW DELHI: Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat on Saturday said that Sangh is was not founded as reaction or in opposition to any organisation and it does not seek power or popularity. While speaking at a program held as a part of the RSS centenary celebrations in Mumbai, Bhagwat said that those who want to know about RSS, must come should come within the organisation and observe it from close quarters.“The Sangh has not emerged in competition with any other institution or organization, nor as a reaction or in opposition to anyone. The Sangh does not seek popularity. The Sangh does not seek power. Whatever good deeds are being done in the country—may they be done well; the Sangh exists to help make that happen,” RSS chief said.“If you want to know Sangh, come inside and see it for yourself,” he added.Bhagwat claimed that more than one lakh thirty thousand small and big seva works re carried out by RSS volunteers across the country.“More than one lakh thirty thousand small and big seva works are carried out by Swayamsevaks without taking any government money, spending their own funds with the cooperation of society. In the history of our country, no Sangh like work occurred after Tathagat Buddha,” He said.“The work of the Sangh is meant for the entire nation — Bharatvarsh,” he added.Talking about the situation in the country that preceded the RSS’s birth in 1925, Bhagwat the British founded the Indian National Congress as a “safety valve”, but the Indians transformed it into a powerful instrument in the struggle for independence.Referring to RSS founder Keshav Baliram Hedgewar, Bhagwat described the difficult circumstances of his childhood including the death of both his parents due to the plague at age 13 and the financial hardship he suffered subsequently.Hedgewar actively participated in various movements during the freedom struggle, including the Vande Mataram agitation in his school days, Bhagwat said. When he cleared the matriculation examination with a first class, some people in Nagpur raised funds to send him to Calcutta (Kolkata) for medical education, where he came in contact with revolutionary groups, Bhagwat said.Recalling an anecdote from that period, Bhagwat said Hedgewar operated under the code name “Koken”, inspired by the name of a person called Kokenchandra. Once a police team which had arrived to arrest Kokenchandra instead detained Hedgewar, an incident documented in a book by Rash Behari Bose, he said.During the ceremony, noted guests such as film actor Salman Khan, Subhash Ghai and Prasoon Joshi were also present. The two-day lecture series titled ‘100 Years of Sangh Journey: New Horizons’ seeks to reflect on the journey of RSS, its role in society, and the ideas and perspectives shaping its future.

External factors unlikely to disrupt India-China trade as both back multilateral trade, says Consul General Qin Jie

External factors unlikely to disrupt India-China trade as both back multilateral trade, says Consul General Qin Jie

India-China trade is unlikely to be influenced by external geopolitical or economic developments, as both countries are large economies that support multilateralism and global trade frameworks, China’s Consul General in Mumbai Qin Jie said on Saturday.Speaking to PTI on the sidelines of the International Business Conclave at Advantage Vidarbha 2026 in Nagpur, the diplomat said bilateral economic engagement between the two neighbours has strong structural foundations.

China Backs BRICS Presidency, Highlights Record Trade Growth With India Amid Diplomatic Reset

When asked how India-China trade may evolve amid India’s recent trade agreements with other global partners, he said external developments are unlikely to have a major impact.“Because India is a very big economy and China is also a very large economy. We are countries that both support multilateralism and multilateral trade and multicultural exchange,” he said.On India’s trade engagements with the United States and the European Union, Qin Jie said India is sovereign in shaping its external partnerships but emphasised the need for continued bilateral cooperation between India and China.“India is free to decide its relations with the EU or other parts of the world… But for India and China, we should continue cooperation, strengthen ties, and maintain communication in many fields,” he said.Responding to a question on whether India should revisit Press Note 3 issued in 2020, which mandates prior government approval for foreign direct investment from countries sharing land borders with India, Qin Jie said he had seen reports indicating that India may already be reviewing the policy.“I think it is a very positive and good move because we need our investors, our (China-India) business and communities to come together, and we need a lot of cooperation in various fields like cultural, education and artistic communication,” he said. The Chinese Consulate General also said China is looking forward to stronger mutual engagement, increased two-way exchanges and deeper people-to-people ties with India. On the ‘China Plus One’ strategy, under which global firms diversify supply chains beyond China, Qin Jie said India and China should focus on complementary strengths rather than competitive positioning.“We should look at how we can work together, rather than on who replaces whom,” he said, noting China’s manufacturing strengths and India’s capabilities in software and services. The China Plus One strategy broadly refers to companies expanding manufacturing or sourcing beyond China to diversify supply chain risks.

NEW DELHI: NCP (SP) leader Rohit Pawar on Saturday said that he will present a detailed presentation on February 10 on the air crash that killed Maharashtra deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar. He said that questions and doubts persist over the circumstances of the incident, which will be addressed during the briefing in Mumbai.Speaking to reporters after casting his vote in the Zilla Parishad elections in Baramati, Rohit Pawar said that several questions remained unanswered about how and why the crash occurred. He added that the forthcoming presentation would address these concerns in detail.“Everyone has questions and doubts in their minds. Why the crash happened and how it might have happened—these issues will be raised on February 10,” he said. The Zilla Parishad and Panchayat Samiti elections in Maharashtra were held on Saturday for 12 Zilla Parishads and 125 Panchayat Samitis. The polls had earlier been postponed following Ajit Pawar’s death in the air crash on January 28.Ajit Pawar was killed along with four others when a chartered Learjet aircraft crashed while attempting to land at the table-top airstrip in Baramati, Pune district. Those killed included his personal security officer, the pilot, co-pilot and a flight attendant.Rohit Pawar said that the late leader had wished for unity between the rival factions of the Nationalist Congress Party and that efforts toward a merger would continue. The NCP (SP), led by Sharad Pawar and the NCP have jointly contested the Zilla Parishad elections, with candidates fighting on the latter’s ‘clock’ symbol.“Ajit Dada sincerely wished that everyone should come together as one family. Everyone has come together today. Dada had made efforts, and we will continue to make efforts in the same manner. The family is still united,” Rohit Pawar said.Earlier, West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee alleged that Ajit Pawar’s death could be the result of a political conspiracy and demanded a Supreme Court-monitored probe.Citing reports that Pawar was considering leaving the BJP and rejoining the NCP (SP) led by Sharad Pawar, Banerjee said, “I demand a proper investigation under the supervision of the Supreme Court. We have trust only in the Supreme Court. All other agencies have been completely compromised.”She described Pawar’s death as a major loss and said he was expected to return to the original faction of his party. The Opposition MLA, who represents the Karjat-Jamkhed constituency in Ahilyanagar district, also said that he would explain the reasons and intent behind the proposed party merger on February 12.“I will explain why the merger was supposed to happen and for what purpose. Whether Ajit Dada’s intention was political or emotional, I will clarify this on February 12,” he said.On the investigation into the crash, Union Minister of State for Civil Aviation Murlidhar Mohol said that the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) and the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) were making rapid progress.Providing an update, Mohol said the aircraft’s black box had been recovered and was being analysed.“The black box has been recovered, and the AAIB team and the DGCA are working on it. The data will be downloaded, followed by analysis and an inquiry. A preliminary report will be released after that,” Mohol said.He added that investigation teams from the AAIB and the DGCA’s Mumbai Regional Office reached the crash site on the day of the incident and that the AAIB Director General personally oversaw the initial probe. The investigation is being conducted under Rules 5 and 11 of the AAIB Rules, 2025, to determine the sequence of events during the aircraft’s attempted landing amid reported poor visibility.Authorities have cautioned against drawing premature conclusions, stating that the findings will be based on technical analysis of the black box data.

WATCH: Brandon McMullen plucks a screamer to remove dangerous Shimron Hetmyer | WI vs SCO, T20 World Cup 2026

The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 moved into high gear at the iconic Eden Gardens in Kolkata as West Indies and Scotland faced off in a crucial Group C encounter. In a game defined by Caribbean power and Scottish grit, the highlight of the night wasn’t a towering six, but a moment of pure defensive genius in the deep that left the Kolkata crowd in awe.

Brandon McMullen takes a stunning catch to dismiss Shimron Hetmyer

The West Indies innings was anchored by a blistering knock from Shimron Hetmyer, who looked set to propel the Windies toward a 200-plus total. Entering the final stages of the innings, Hetmyer had raced to 64 off just 36 deliveries, punishing the Scottish attack with five boundaries and two massive sixes. However, the momentum shifted dramatically on the final ball of the 19th over.

Safyaan Sharif delivered a high full toss that Hetmyer looked to dispatch over the leg side. While the connection was solid, it lacked the distance to clear the ropes. Brandon McMullen, stationed at wide long-on, showcased elite athleticism as he sprinted to his left, covering significant ground in seconds. With the ball appearing to fade away from him, McMullen launched into a full-length dive, snatching the ball in his fingertips just inches above the turf.

The screamer sent Hetmyer back to the pavilion at 175/4, effectively stalling the West Indies’ death-overs charge. Despite a brief pause for a height review on the full toss, replays confirmed the ball was dipping significantly, validating one of the tournament’s best catches so far. Thanks to that breakthrough, Scotland restricted the West Indies to 182/5 a competitive but chaseable target on the lightning-fast Eden Gardens outfield.

Scotland struggles against Caribbean pace in early chase

While McMullen’s heroics provided a morale boost, the Scottish chase began under heavy pressure from the West Indies’ refurbished pace battery. Chasing a target of 183, Scotland needed a flying start, but the Men in Maroon had other plans, utilizing the evening dew and bounce to stifle the openers.

The Powerplay proved disastrous for the Scots as they slumped to 38/3 within the first six overs. Jason Holder struck early, removing Michael Jones for just 1, caught by Sherfane Rutherford. The hero of the first innings, Brandon McMullen, tried to replicate his fielding energy with the bat, hitting a four and a six during a brief 14-run cameo, but his stumps were rattled by a searing delivery from Romario Shepherd in the 5th over.

The collapse continued when George Munsey (19), who had shown glimpses of resistance, was undone by the raw pace of Shamar Joseph, leaving Scotland reeling. By the time the drinks break was called at 5.4 overs, Scotland sat at a precarious 37/3. With the required run rate climbing above 10.5 runs per over and the Win Probability favouring the West Indies at over 90%, Captain Richie Berrington and Tom Bruce face a monumental task to keep Scotland’s World Cup dreams alive in Kolkata.

‘Blow to stomachs of Indian farmers’: Opposition slams India-US trade framework — who said what | India News

'Blow to stomachs of Indian farmers': Opposition slams India-US trade framework — who said what
Randeep Surjewala, Piyush Goyal

NEW DELHI: Opposition leaders on Saturday criticised the India-US Interim Trade Agreement framework, accusing the government of compromising India’s interests and raising concerns over its impact on farmers, tariffs, and oil imports.Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala warned that the agreement could harm farmers and rural livelihoods. He said, “A blow has been delivered to the stomachs of India’s 720 million farmers. Work has been done to snatch away the livelihood of India’s 720 million food providers, farm labourers, and farmers.”He also raised concerns over agricultural imports from the US. “US corn, US soybeans, US sorghum (jowar), US walnuts, almonds, pistachios, fresh fruits like apples and oranges, processed fruits, and other ‘additional’ agricultural products will all flood the Indian market,” he said.Surjewala questioned the government on possible impacts. “We are already importing $334 million worth of cotton from the US, which has caused cotton prices for Indian farmers to crash. Now, with corn, cotton, sorghum, fruits, processed fruits, and soybeans coming from the US, I ask PM Modi and Piyush Goyal: what will happen to India’s farmers? Where will they go?” he said.Congress leader Pawan Khera also attacked the government over the India-US Interim Trade Agreement, questioning what he called a shift in India’s diplomatic posture. “Where is the India which used to look Nixon, George Bush and Obama in the eye and forge practical relations?” he asked. Khera alleged that the interests of ordinary Indians were being undermined, saying, “This is not an agreement with the US, but a compromise with our self-respect.” He said those projecting the framework as a success were aware of its implications. “This is not a deal, but a surrender,” he said, adding that the opposition was being stopped from raising these issues in Parliament because the government feared scrutiny over the terms of the agreement.RJD MP Manoj Kumar Jha also criticised the tariff changes and accused the government of misleading the public. “On most things, our tariff, in the worst of times and the best of times, was 2.9%. Through threats, it was raised to 50%. Then it was reduced to 18%. Is this something to celebrate? Aren’t you misleading the entire nation?” he said.He warned that the deal could lead to public anger once its full impact is known. “When this takes further shape and comes to the forefront, there will be unrest on the streets,” Jha said.On Saturday, India and the US announced a framework for an Interim Agreement on reciprocal and mutually beneficial trade, as part of broader negotiations on a Bilateral Trade Agreement.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi can’t play for India right now – Here’s why | Cricket News

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi can't play for India right now – Here's why
Vaibhav Sooryavanshi (X-Cricbuzz)

The dust is still settling at Harare Sports Club, but Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s breathtaking display in the Under-19 World Cup final against England continues to resonate across the cricketing world. His 175 off just 80 balls was more than an innings—it was a record-breaking blitz. With 15 towering sixes and a strike rate that seemed to mock the intensity of a final, the 14-year-old prodigy from Bihar has left fans asking one burning question: If he can dismantle England’s top U19 players and smash IPL centuries, why isn’t he part of the senior Indian team? The answer lies with the International Cricket Council (ICC). The key obstacle for Sooryavanshi is the ICC’s Minimum Age Policy. Introduced in 2020 to protect the mental and physical well-being of young athletes, the rule mandates that players must be at least 15 to feature in international cricket.

Why Gautam Gambhir and Hardik Pandya had an intense chat before India vs USA T20 WC

Born on 27 March 2011, Vaibhav was still 14 during his World Cup triumph in February 2026. Ironically, while he is too young for the senior squad, he has also outgrown the U19 team. The BCCI enforces a strict “One-Tournament” rule for the U19 World Cup, designed to prevent age-group specialists and ensure a constant influx of fresh talent. Having already dominated the 2026 edition and won the Player of the Tournament award, Vaibhav is ineligible for the 2028 or 2030 editions, even though he would still be under 19.

Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Records

The excitement around the young opener is easy to understand, given the string of records he has broken in the past year:

  • U19 World Cup Final High: 175 off 80 balls against England, the highest score in a U19 final.
  • World Cup Sixes Record: 30 sixes in the 2026 edition, surpassing Dewald Brevis’ previous mark.
  • Global List-A Record: Youngest in history to score a List-A century at 14 years and 272 days.
  • Fastest 150 in History: 150 off 59 balls in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, breaking AB de Villiers’ record.
  • IPL Century Milestone: Youngest IPL centurion at 14 years, 32 days, with a 35-ball ton for Rajasthan Royals.
  • India A Pioneer: First player to score a T20 century for India A, with a 32-ball hundred against UAE.
  • Youth ODI Speed: Fastest Youth ODI century with a 52-ball ton against England U19.
  • Youth Test Record: Fastest Youth Test century by an Indian (58 balls), second fastest in world history.
  • Domestic T20 Record: Youngest centurion in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy with an unbeaten 108.
  • Boundary Landmark: First player to hit 100 career sixes in Youth ODIs.

For now, the “Sooryavanshi Storm” is confined to domestic cricket and franchise tournaments. But the clock is ticking. As soon as he turns 15 later in 2026, it is only a matter of time before the blue jersey bearing his name makes its debut at the highest level.
