NEW DELHI: Congress MP Karti Chidambaram dismissed social media claims linking him and his father, former Union minister P Chidambaram, to a scene in the recently released film Dhurandhar, calling the allegations a blend of “fact, fiction and WhatsApp forwards”.In an interview to ANI, the Sivaganga MP talked about his “cameo” in Aditya Dhar’s movie said he had not yet watched the film but was told that a character resembling him appears in it. “No, I haven’t seen it, but I’ve been told I have a cameo there. It’s a three-hour-long movie, so maybe I’ll watch it during my flights,” he said.Taking a swipe, Chidambaram joked that the filmmakers should have consulted him to finalise the actor to play him on screen. Asked who he would want to portray him on screen, he replied, “Pierce Brosnan, maybe,” and suggested Michael Caine or Sean Connery as possible choices to play his father.

Karti Chidambaram Opens Up on His Alleged Dhurandhar Cameo

Karti Chidambaram was responding to a scene in the film in which an Indian minister and his son hand over currency-printing templates to a Pakistani intelligence operative after a deal in London. Several social media posts claimed the scene reflected real events during P Chidambaram’s tenure as a Union minister, allegations that remain unverified.Rejecting the claims outright, Karti Chidambaram said that if such an incident had actually occurred, it would have left an official trail. “If people really think this happened, shouldn’t the government of India have some records?” he asked. He criticised the growing inability to distinguish between fact and fiction in the age of viral messaging. “Thanks to WhatsApp, everything merges. With artificial intelligence, it’s only going to get worse,” he said.

Lucknow: Woman dies during childbirth; Class 12 student, BA graduate held for illegal C-section | Lucknow News

LUCKNOW: In a glaring example of medical negligence and quackery, the Ambedkar Nagar police on Friday arrested a class 12 student and an Arts graduate for allegedly conducting a caesarean surgery at an unregistered private hospital, resulting in the death of a woman during childbirth. Probe revealed the illegal hospital had been running for five years. The accused were identified as Yogesh Verma (32), a BA graduate from Malipur, and Shubham Vishwakarma (19), an intermediate student from Sultanpur. The duo allegedly performed surgeries at Navjeevan Hospital in Baskhari without possessing any recognised medical degree or surgical qualification.

The deceased, Priyanka, was admitted to the hospital on February 5 for delivery. According to police, the duo conducted a caesarean section, after which she delivered a baby girl. However, Priyanka allegedly suffered excessive bleeding and never regained consciousness following the administration of anaesthesia. As her condition deteriorated, she was referred to Lucknow, but she died. The incident triggered protests by the victim’s family, after which the hospital operator, identified as Ruby, fled the spot and remains absconding. The police seized mobile phones linked to the case and launched efforts to trace her. Baskhari SHO Sunil Kumar Pandey, who is leading the investigation, said that two so-called “doctors” were called in to conduct the surgery. “Yogesh Verma is only a graduate. His father worked as a ward boy at CHC Jalalpur, and he learned basic medical procedures while assisting him. He reportedly performed surgeries for several years,” the SHO said. The second accused, Shubham Vishwakarma, is associated with Bajrang Nursing Home in Belwai under Akhandnagar police station limits of Sultanpur district. During questioning, he told police that he gained experience by observing procedures at a local hospital after completing his class 12. Both the accused allegedly arrived on call to conduct surgeries at Navjeevan Hospital, which had been operating for nearly 5 years. Police sources revealed that the duo allegedly charged between Rs 3,000 and Rs 5,000 per caesarean operation—significantly lower than qualified surgeons—attracting poor patients seeking affordable treatment. Following directions from the Chief Medical Officer, a joint inspection was conducted on the night of February 8 by the CHC superintendent, sub-divisional magistrate Tanda, and Baskhari police. During the inspection, officials found that the hospital operated illegally from four rooms of a residential building without any registration certificate, biomedical waste (BMW) authorisation, fire NOC, or required medical staff as per norms. “No signboard displaying hospital registration details was found on the premises. Various medicines, surgical and medical equipment were recovered from the site. After preparing an inventory, authorities sealed all the four rooms in the presence of the SDM and police,” said Dr Ajay Kumar, CHC superintendent. An FIR was lodged on February 9 on the complaint of the CHC superintendent under relevant sections for the illegal operation of a hospital and medical negligence. Police said further investigation is on to identify other hospitals where the accused may have performed surgeries. Authorities also ordered verification of all medical credentials linked to the hospital and warned of strict action against illegal healthcare establishments operating in the district. Police said that Priyanka’s husband Sandeep lodged another FIR under the charges of BNS 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), and efforts are on to catch Ruby.

Australia draft Steve Smith as Josh Hazlewood’s replacement ahead of their T20 World Cup 2026 clash against Sri Lanka

Pallekele International Cricket Stadium in Kandy for a heavyweight Group B showdown. On February 16, 2026, co-hosts Sri Lanka will face off against Australia in Match 30 of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. With the atmospheric Kandy hills providing the backdrop, this fixture has evolved from a simple group game into a battle for survival and supremacy, as both sides eye a coveted spot in the Super 8 stage.

Steve Smith bolsters Australia squad following Josh Hazlewood’s exit from T20 World Cup 2026

The Australian camp has been forced into a late tactical pivot following the official withdrawal of premier pacer Josh Hazlewood. The veteran right-armer, a cornerstone of Australia’s pace battery, has been ruled out of the remainder of the 2026 T20 World Cup due to a persistent calf strain. Despite the best efforts of the medical staff to nurse him back for the knockout rounds, Hazlewood failed to meet the necessary fitness benchmarks.

In a move that signals a shift in strategy, the Event Technical Committee of the ICC has approved the inclusion of Steve Smith as his replacement. While Smith was initially a travelling reserve providing cover for the injured Mitchell Marsh, he now finds himself officially back in the 15-man squad.

The Event Technical Committee of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 has approved Steve Smith as a replacement for Josh Hazlewood in the Australia squad. Smith is named as a replacement for Hazlewood, who is now officially ruled out from participating in the tournament due to a calf injury,” the ICC confirmed in a media release.

Smith’s return comes at a fascinating time. Having not featured in a T20I for nearly two years before this call-up, his sensational form in the recent Big Bash League, where he boasted a strike rate of nearly 168, suggests he is more than ready for the subcontinental grind. His experience against spin will be vital on a slowing Pallekele surface.

A crucial must-win fixture for Australia’s Super 8 ambitions

For the Lions, the equation is clear: victory tonight guarantees them a place in the Super 8. Currently sitting at the top of Group B with two wins from two matches, Sri Lanka have been the form team of the group. Their massive 105-run win over Oman has given them a healthy Net Run Rate (NRR) of +3.125, making them the team to beat on home soil.

However, the pressure is arguably higher on Australia. Following a shock 23-run defeat to Zimbabwe, the 2021 champions are currently third in the table. A loss to Sri Lanka would leave their qualification hopes hanging by a thread, likely requiring other results to go their way and a massive win against Oman in their final fixture.

The Pallekele pitch is expected to offer a balanced contest, but as the lights take effect, the surface typically slows down, aiding Sri Lanka’s formidable spin of Maheesh Theekshana. Australia will look to Smith and a returning Marsh to navigate these tricky middle overs. With the local Kandy crowd expected to turn out in droves, Sri Lanka holds the psychological edge.

‘6 days left’: BLA claims Pakistan soldiers in custody; sets deadline again

'6 days left': BLA claims Pakistan soldiers in custody; sets deadline again

The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) has issued a renewed warning to the Pakistani government, stating that six days remain for Islamabad to respond to its demand for a prisoner exchange involving seven alleged Pakistan army personnel detained during recent attacks in Balochistan. The statement follows a message released on Sunday through its media wing, Hakkal. BLA spokesperson Jeeyand Baloch said the group had activated a seven-day countdown, setting a deadline of 15 February 2026 for the government to formally express readiness for a swap. The BLA warned that if there is no “tangible progress” within the stipulated timeframe, it will carry out what it described as “court sentences” handed down by a self-styled “Baloch National Court”.The ultimatum follows the second phase of the group’s so-called “Operation Herof”, during which the BLA claims to have detained 17 individuals in coordinated attacks across the insurgent region. As of Monday, there has been no official response from the Pakistan government.According to the rebel group, 10 of those detained — identified as ethnic Baloch affiliated with local policing units or Levies — were released after being “warned”, a move the organisation said was in the “broader interests” of the local population.“The remaining detainees are members of regular units of the Pakistan Army. Proceedings were convened in a Baloch National Court, where the captives faced accusations ranging from involvement in actions against civilians to aiding enforced disappearances and taking part in the genocide of the Baloch people. During the hearing, the men were allowed to respond to the allegations, evidence was presented, and statements were recorded before a guilty verdict was delivered,” the statement read.BLA also maintained that they have convened what it called a “Baloch National Court” where the captives were tried for accusations ranging from involvement in actions against civilians to aiding enforced disappearances and taking part in what the organisation labels genocide.Islamabad has historically maintained a policy of not negotiating with banned separatist organisations, including the BLA.The BLA has accused the authorities of disregarding previous exchange proposals and “failing to prioritise the lives of their personnel”.

‘Darkest period in our history’: Mohammad Yousuf lashes out after India humiliate Pakistan in T20 World Cup

NEW DELHI: India’s emphatic 61-run demolition of Pakistan in the T20 World Cup has triggered an extraordinary outpouring of anger and anguish from former Pakistan great Mohammad Yousuf, who described the current phase as “the darkest period in our cricketing history.Go Beyond The Boundary with our YouTube channel. SUBSCRIBE NOW!The defeat extended Pakistan’s dismal World Cup record against India, who have now won eight of nine T20 World Cup meetings and all eight ODI World Cup clashes between the rivals. On Sunday night, Suryakumar Yadav’s side piled up 175/7, powered by a blistering 77 from Ishan Kishan, before bowling Pakistan out for 114 in 18 overs to storm into the Super Eights alongside the West Indies.

Mike Hesson press conference: ‘Ishan took the game away from us’ after India beat Pakistan

Soon after the defeat, Yousuf vented his frustration on social media, writing, “Time’s up for Shaheen, Babar, and Shadab, Pakistan’s T20 squad needs new performers, not empty wins against weaker sides.” A day later, his criticism deepened. “Unless we remove political influence and personal agendas from Pakistan cricket, we cannot return to the team we once were. This is the darkest period in our cricketing history, and my heart bleeds for it. Incompetent individuals must be removed from office and from the team,” he posted on X.Pakistan’s collapse was swift and brutal. Chasing 176, they were 13/3 inside three overs after early strikes from Hardik Pandya and Jasprit Bumrah. When Axar Patel bowled Babar Azam for five, the scoreboard read 34/4 and the contest was effectively over. Usman Khan’s 44 provided brief resistance, but a reckless charge at Axar ended his stay and triggered another collapse.Earlier, Kishan had set the tone with fearless strokeplay, bringing up his fifty in just 27 balls. “I was just keeping it simple and watching the ball,” Kishan said, while Suryakumar added, “After we were 0-1, someone had to take responsibility and the way he took it was amazing.”For Pakistan, however, the conversation has shifted beyond one defeat. Yousuf’s stinging words have framed it as something deeper.

New rail tech policy in works; India eyes major boost for domestic manufacturing

New rail tech policy in works; India eyes major boost for domestic manufacturing

India plans to unveil a new “rail tech” policy in the coming weeks to boost domestic manufacturing of next-generation railway technology and equipment. Under the proposed framework, the Railway Board is expected to offer partial funding, technical support, and access to testing facilities to manufacturers. The policy is part of the government’s rail modernisation drive and aims to reduce dependence on imported railway technology, including from China.“A new Rail Tech policy will give much needed impetus to innovation for mass transport,” a senior official told ET, noting that is would encourage collaboration between domestic firms and research institutions. India’s imports of railway and tramway locomotives, rolling stock, and equipment stood at about Rs 6,098 crore in FY25, with locomotive components forming the bulk of the import basket, reflecting reliance on imported sub-systems.Trade data and project reports for 2024–25 estimate that around 55% of railway component imports are for Indian Railways, with 45% for metro and rapid rail systems. Imports account for a limited share of India’s overall railway component requirements. The FY27 Union Budget allocated Rs 52,108.73 crore for rolling stock capital expenditure, up from Rs 50,007.77 crore this fiscal year, primarily for new locomotives, coaches, including Vande Bharat train sets, and wagons as part of fleet modernisation. The government’s proposed rail technology policy builds on the Indian Railway Innovation Policy launched in June 2022, which offered grant support of up to Rs 1.5 crore on a 50:50 cost-sharing basis for startups and smaller companies to develop functional prototypes. The earlier policy focused on improving safety, efficiency, and maintenance, and provided innovators with ownership of their solutions, access to a secure testing environment, and assured procurement for successful low-cost technologies.India plans to be entirely self-sufficient in building seven new bullet train networks, the railway minister said. Currently, China dominates India’s railway equipment imports, followed by Germany and Austria for engineering systems, and the US and Japan for specialised propulsion and signalling components.

Popular radio show host David Greene claims Google stole his voice; Google responds

Popular radio show host David Greene claims Google stole his voice; Google responds

Popular radio show host David Greene has sued Google, alleging the tech giant of ‘stealing’ his voice for its NotebookLM tool, which uses AI to create on-demand podcasts. The lawsuit, filed in Santa Clara County alleges that Google cloned Greene’s voice and distinctive broadcasting style without permission or compensation. Greene argues that Google’s NotebookLM T tool voice’s rhythm, intonation, and even his characteristic verbal tics are so similar that even his friends, colleagues, and listeners assumed he’d licensed his voice to Google.“So… I’m probably the 148th person to ask this, but did you license your voice to Google? It sounds very much like you!,” a former co-worker asked David Greene in a fall 2024 email, a Washington Post report says.

What David Greene says

“I was, like, completely freaked out,” Greene told the publication, adding “It’s this eerie moment where you feel like you’re listening to yourself.” Greene said the AI voice sounds very similar to his own, and that the impact goes beyond losing a chance to make money from his best-known asset. “My voice is, like, the most important part of who I am,” Greene reportedly said. In the lawsuit, Greene’s lawyer argues that the recordings make the resemblance clear. “We have faith in the court and encourage people to listen to the example audio themselves,” said Joshua Michelangelo Stein, a partner at the firm Boies Schiller Flexner.

Google responds to the lawsuit

Google responded denying the allegations. Google spokesperson José Castañeda told Washington Post: “These allegations are baseless. The sound of the male voice in NotebookLM’s Audio Overviews is based on a paid professional actor Google hired.”The Washington Post reported, “The lawsuit is the latest to pit the rights of individual human creators against the rights of a burgeoning AI industry that promises to transform the economy by enabling the on-demand generation of stunningly lifelike speech, prose, images, and video. Behind the artificial voices found in tools like NotebookLM are language models trained on vast libraries of real-life human text and speech. The humans used to train these models are unaware that their words and voices will be used by AI, raising serious questions about copyright and ownership.”.

‘Why haven’t you gone to the Gauhati HC?’: SC refuses to hear pleas against Assam CM Himanta; flags ‘disturbing trend’ | India News

'Why haven't you gone to the Gauhati HC?': SC refuses to hear pleas against Assam CM Himanta; flags ‘disturbing trend’

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Monday refused to entertain petitions seeking the registration of an FIR and the constitution of an SIT probe against Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma over his ‘target-shooting’ video, and asked the petitioners to approach the Gauhati high court. The apex court questioned why the petitioners had not moved the Gauhati High Court and said its authority should not be “undermined.” A bench of Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and Vikul Pancholi said it would ask parties to exercise restraint and remain within the boundaries of constitutional morality. The bench also observed that filing petitions before elections is “becoming a trend.” “This is a disturbing trend that every matter ends up here. We have already deprived HCs of environmental and commercial litigations,” the bench said. The development comes after the Bharatiya Janata Party Assam unit posted a video on X showing Sarma purportedly aiming a rifle at two people, one wearing a skullcap and another with a beard. The video was later deleted following backlash.
