Iran Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Tuesday issued a series of direct threats against President Donald Trump and the United States, saying that even the “strongest military force in the world may at times be struck so hard that it cannot get up again,” amid ongoing tensions between Tehran and Washington.Taking to X, Khamenei targeted the Trump administration and warned Washington over its efforts to keep Tehran’s political regime and nuclear programme under close surveillance. He said, “The US President keeps saying that they have the strongest military force in the world. The strongest military force in the world may at times be struck so hard that it cannot get up again.”

US-Iran War Outcome Decided? Trump Deploys ‘Radar-Blinding’ Growler In Middle East

The Supreme Leader also referred to America’s deployment of US warships near Iran. In an apparent escalation, he warned that Iran has the capability to strike them, saying, “The Americans constantly say that they’ve sent a warship toward Iran. Of course, a warship is a dangerous piece of military hardware. However, more dangerous than that warship is the weapon that can send that warship to the bottom of the sea.”He added, “The US President has said that for 47 years, the United States hasn’t been able to eliminate the Islamic Republic. That is a good confession. I say, ‘You, too, will not be able to do this.’”Relations between Tehran and Washington have remained strained for years, with Trump repeatedly threatening Iran’s leadership and warning of possible military action to curb its nuclear ambitions. The United States has also deployed warships near Iran to monitor its activities and keep check on it. Last year, Washington launched “Operation Midnight Hammer” aimed at countering Iran’s nuclear programme, and Trump has continued to warn of potential military action against the Iranian regime.

Auto wholesale growth to normalise at 3–6% in FY27 after strong H2 recovery: Report

Auto wholesale growth to normalise at 3–6% in FY27 after strong H2 recovery: Report

Domestic passenger vehicle (PV) volumes are estimated to grow 4–6 per cent year-on-year in 2026–27, supported by sustained demand momentum.Srikumar Krishnamurthy, senior vice president & co-group head – corporate ratings at ICRA, said, “The current fiscal has unfolded as a tale of two halves for the Indian automotive industry, with the first half witnessing subdued demand while the second half is seeing a strong recovery on the back of policy support and healthy rural demand.“Industry sales volumes have been robust over the past few months, aided by the GST rate cut, pent-up demand, supportive rural output, and conducive financing environment. Although demand sentiment remains optimistic, volumes are reaching levels that would weigh on the potential for outsized growth in 2026-27,” he added, as quoted by news agency ANI.ICRA expects PV wholesale volumes to grow 5–7 per cent in 2025–26 before moderating to 4–6 per cent in 2026–27, due to a higher base and elevated system-level inventory.Utility vehicles continue to outperform other categories, supported by shifting consumer preferences and new model launches. The share of alternative powertrains — including CNG, hybrids and electric vehicles, is rising steadily amid regulatory pushes and evolving customer preferences.

Two-wheelers: Growth to ease after recovery

The two-wheeler (2W) industry is currently witnessing a gradual recovery, with growth estimated at 6–9 per cent in 2025–26, aided by healthy agricultural output and improved financing availability. However, growth is expected to normalise to 3–5 per cent in 2026–27.ICRA noted that premiumisation is shaping demand trends in the segment. While entry-level motorcycle demand remains under pressure due to affordability constraints, premium motorcycles and scooters have recorded a sharp recovery.

Commercial vehicles: Bus segment to lead

Commercial vehicle (CV) wholesale volumes are projected to expand 7–9 per cent in 2025–26, led by the light commercial vehicle and bus segments.Replacement demand and infrastructure activity remain supportive, though regulation-led price hikes may limit stronger growth for trucks. For 2026–27, the CV segment is estimated to grow 4–6 per cent overall, with bus volumes expected to outperform at 7–9 per cent growth, driven by replacement demand from State Road Transport Undertakings.

Electrification: A key structural theme

Highlighting broader industry trends, Krishnamurthy said, “The Indian automotive industry is currently at crossroads amid changing consumer preferences, technological advancements, and focus on sustainability.” “ICRA expects the growth trajectory to continue in 2026-27, even as growth is likely to remain modest across segments. Over the medium term, vehicle electrification is expected to be a key structural theme, with EV penetration rising steadily across segments”, Krishnamurthy added.Overall, while growth is set to continue into 2026–27, it is expected to remain moderate as the industry adjusts to a higher base and evolving demand dynamics.

From Kapil Dev to Clive Lloyd – Check out the full list of 14 legendary captains demanding justice for Pakistan great Imran Khan

In a rare and powerful display of cross-border solidarity, 14 legendary international cricket captains, including Indian icons Sunil Gavaskar and Kapil Dev, have issued a joint appeal to the Government of Pakistan on February 17, 2026.

The letter, addressed to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, expresses ‘profound concern’ over the deteriorating health of the 1992 World Cup-winning skipper Imran Khan, who has been incarcerated since 2023. This extraordinary intervention by the global cricketing fraternity highlights the severe medical crisis facing the 73-year-old, specifically reports of significant vision loss. By setting aside political and national rivalries, these sporting titans have called for basic human dignity and specialized care for a man they describe as a “global sporting icon.”

14 legends demand dignity for Pakistan iconic captain Imran Khan

The appeal, spearheaded by former Australian captain Greg Chappell, serves as a moral plea from a “Who’s Who” of cricketing history, featuring names like Clive Lloyd, Allan Border and Steve Waugh. The signatories emphasized that while their competitive battles on the field were fierce, the respect for a peer of Khan’s stature must transcend the boundary rope during his time of personal crisis.

The letter states: “As fellow cricketers who understand the values of fair play, honour, and respect that transcend the boundary rope, we believe that a person of Imran Khan’s stature deserves to be treated with the dignity and basic human consideration befitting a former national leader.”

By involving figures like Gavaskar and Kapil Dev, the petition carries immense weight in the subcontinent, reminding the authorities that the eyes of the world are on the treatment of a man who led Pakistan to its greatest sporting triumph. The captains collectively urged the government to honor the spirit of sportsmanship: “Cricket has long been a bridge between nations. Our shared history on the field reminds us that rivalry ends when the stumps are drawn and respect endures.”

Imran Khan’s alarming medical reports from Adiala Jail

The catalyst for this high-profile intervention was a series of distressing reports concerning Khan’s health within Rawalpindi’s Adiala Jail, most notably a claim that he has lost 85% of the vision in his right eye. According to a report submitted to the Supreme Court by a court-appointed lawyer on February 10, 2026, the former Prime Minister is suffering from persistent blurred vision and retinal issues that were allegedly ignored for months by jail authorities.

The 14 captains have specifically demanded: “Immediate, adequate and ongoing medical attention from qualified specialists of his choosing to address his reported health issues.” While a government medical board recently claimed a slight improvement in his vision to 6/9 with glasses, his family and the PTI party remain skeptical, describing the state-conducted examinations as “malicious” and “unacceptable” without the presence of personal physicians. The captains’ letter underscores the urgency, stating: “Recent reports concerning his health, particularly the alarming deterioration of his vision while in custody, have caused us profound concern.”

The petition represents a unprecedented collective effort, uniting captains from India, Australia, England, the West Indies, and New Zealand in a singular humanitarian cause. Beyond the immediate health concerns, the letter advocates for “humane and dignified conditions of detention in line with international standards, including regular visits by close family members and fair and transparent access to legal processes.”

The list of signatories is a testament to Khan’s enduring legacy as one of the greatest all-rounders the game has ever seen: Michael Atherton, Allan Border, Michael Brearley, Greg Chappell, Ian Chappell, Belinda Clark, David Gower, Kim Hughes, Nasser Hussain, Sir Clive Lloyd, Stephen Waugh and John Wright, alongside Sunil Gavaskar and Kapil Dev. Their joint statement concludes with a powerful reminder of Khan’s 1992 legacy: “He led Pakistan to their historic 1992 Cricket World Cup victory, a triumph built on skill, resilience, leadership, and sportsmanship that inspired generations across borders.”

Delhi University bans on-campus protest for a month after backlash over UCG equity guidelines | India News

Delhi University bans on-campus protest for a month after backlash over UCG equity guidelines

NEW DELHI: Delhi University on Tuesday prohibited meetings, processions and protests on its campuses for one month, citing law and order concerns days after clashes erupted over the new equity guidelines issued by the University Grants Commission. The order was issued by the DU proctor following a face-off between student groups during a protest demanding implementation of the UGC’s equity regulations, which have been stayed by the Supreme Court.“This order is issued in view of information received indicating that unrestricted public gatherings, processions, or demonstrations on campus may lead to obstruction of traffic, threats to human life, and disturbance of public peace. In the past, organisers have often failed to control such protests, which have escalated and spread widely, resulting in deterioration of law and order within the University campuses,” the notification stated. The order prohibits holding any public meeting, rally, dharna, protest or agitation; assembly of five or more persons; carrying hazardous materials such as mashals, beacons or torches; shouting slogans or making speeches; and engaging in activities that may disturb public tranquillity or traffic flow. The move follows tensions on Friday when rival student groups accused each other of violence and intimidation during a pro-UGC equity guidelines protest. According to the Left-backed student union AISA, some students were allegedly threatened and subjected to casteist abuse by members of a rival group, reported ANI.Countering the claims, ABVP alleged that a female journalist associated with a YouTube channel was assaulted by Left-backed activists. The journalist claimed she was targeted by a mob, as reported by ANI. “The entire crowd came towards me and attacked me. This is clear in the video. About 500 people attacked me. They only have fabricated narratives and allegations. The girls around me whispered rape threats in my ears just because I am a Brahmin; ‘aaj tu chal, tera nanga parade niklega,’ is what they said.Earlier, DU vice chancellor Yogesh Singh appealed for calm. “I request all teachers and students of Delhi University to maintain harmony among themselves. Do not engage in any activity that increases mutual discord and harms the image of the nation and the university. The incident at Delhi University yesterday is a cause for concern. Students from all states in India and from all communities study at the university. Social harmony is the greatest thing, and maintaining it is the duty of all of us,” he said in a statement shared on the university’s X handle. On January 29, the Supreme Court stayed the UGC (Promotion of Equity in Higher Education Institutions) Regulations, 2026, observing that there was “complete vagueness” in Regulation 3(C), which defines caste-based discrimination, and that it could be misused. “The language needs to be re-modified,” the court said, adding that the 2012 UGC regulations would continue to apply for now.The new regulations were introduced to curb caste-based discrimination and require higher education institutions to set up special committees and helplines to address complaints from students belonging to Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe and Other Backward Classes categories.

NGT clears Rs 90,000-crore Great Nicobar project, here’s why it can be a game changer

NGT clears Rs 90,000-crore Great Nicobar project, here's why it can be a game changer

The National Green Tribunal gave a green light to Centre’s Rs 90,000-crore-plus Great Nicobar infrastructure project on Monday, concluding that the environmental clearance granted in 2022 was backed by sufficient safeguards and there was no “good ground to interfere. A bench of the tribunal dismissed a series of petitions that had questioned the validity of the clearance issued by the Union environment ministry. It observed that the concerns raised had already been scrutinised by a high-powered committee formed in 2023 to re-examine the approval. While allowing the project to proceed, the tribunal stressed that authorities must ensure “full and strict compliance with the EC conditions”. “We find adequate safeguards in the EC conditions. The remaining issues flagged earlier have been addressed by the High-Powered Committee. Given the project’s strategic importance, we see no ground to interfere,” the NGT ruled, as cited by ET. The tribunal had earlier, in April 2023, upheld the environmental clearance on multiple counts and constituted the high-powered panel to consider outstanding issues, ET reported. The bench also highlighted the strategic benefits of “strong presence in Indian Ocean region to counter the pressure being built by foreign powers growing presence… (and) capturing the strategic location to develop a new economic hub in Indian Ocean region.”The project, planned near Galathea Bay on Great Nicobar Island, envisages the construction of a container transshipment port, a dual-use civil-military airport and an integrated township spanning 166 sq km. It requires the diversion of around 130 sq km of forest land on the island, which is recognised globally as a biodiversity hotspot and supports species including the Nicobar megapode, leatherback turtle and Nicobar macaque. The order quoted, “The area is located in China’s ‘string of pearls’ strategy which is sought to be countered by Indian authorities under India’s ‘Act East’ policy. Indian Ocean has emerged as a key intersection zone of Indian and Chinese strategic interests.”A pre-feasibility report prepared in March 2021 says the project is aimed at strengthening national security and boosting India’s position in the Indian Ocean region. The island lies along a key east–west shipping route and is almost equally distant from Colombo, Port Klang and Singapore, which makes it strategically important.

Buying a home? Key documents you must check to avoid legal trouble and disputes

Buying a home? Key documents you must check to avoid legal trouble and disputes

Purchasing a property is one of the most important financial transactions that a person undertakes in their lifetime, and it is therefore imperative to ensure that the property is legal and compliant with the relevant regulations to prevent any form of disputes, fraud, or liabilities in the future. As we see several cases of ownership disputes or compliance issues, these days, it is important for a buyer to carry out due diligence before completing any transaction. For example, it is essential to check whether the project is registered with the Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA).

Key documents for buyers to check

Here are the key documents that byer should check before buying a property, according to experts:

  • Title deed (original): Confirms the seller’s legal ownership of the property and their right to transfer it. Buyers should check the deed is genuine and actually registered in the seller’s name.
  • Chain of title documents: These include previous ownership records that establish the property’s ownership history. A clear and uninterrupted chain confirms there are no disputes or competing claims.
  • Encumbrance certificate: Certifies that the property is free from financial or legal liabilities such as loans, mortgages, or third-party claims.
  • Sale agreement: Defines the terms and conditions of the transaction, including price, payment schedule, possession timeline, and responsibilities of both parties.
  • Property tax receipts: Latest tax receipts confirm there are no outstanding dues and that the property is properly recorded with local authorities.
  • Approved building plan: Issued by the municipal authority, this shows that the construction complies with approved layout and zoning regulations.
  • Completion certificate (CC): Provided after construction, showing that property is completed as per approved plans and regulatory norms.
  • Occupancy certificate (OC): Certifies that the building is fit for occupation and complies with civic and safety requirements such as water supply, sanitation, and electricity.
  • Rera registration details: Buyers should verify the project’s registration number and review disclosures related to approvals, deadlines, and any legal proceedings on the official RERA portal.
  • No Objection Certificates (NOCs): Includes clearances from relevant authorities such as fire department, environment authority, water, electricity, and other regulators, depending on the project.
  • Possession letter: Issued by the builder, confirming the date on which the buyer will receive possession of the property.
  • Loan clearance certificate (if applicable): Ensures that any existing loan against the property has been fully repaid and the lender no longer has a claim.

Experts recommend consulting a qualified property lawyer and conducting independent verification through government portals and local authorities before completing the purchase to undestand all the intricacies.Failure to verify the documents or misunderstanding the terms and conditions can expose buyers to serious consequences. These include title-related disputes where the property may be stuck in ongoing litigation, unauthorised construction that could be sealed or demolished by municipal authorities, and land use violations if the property is built on land not approved for residential purposes. Buyers may also face bank enforcement if the property has an undisclosed mortgage, denial of basic utilities such as electricity and water due to missing completion or occupancy certificates, and liability for pending electricity, water, or property tax dues linked to the property.Proper due diligence not only protects buyers from legal disputes and financial losses but also ensures secure ownership and peaceful possession of the property.
