82km, 40 mins: Inside Namo Bharat pre-launch run | Noida News

Ghaziabad: The concourse at Sarai Kale Khan rapid rail station felt oddly suspended in time — silent, scrubbed clean, and guarded by security personnel and a handful of NCRTC officials moving with quiet urgency. There were no commuters, no queues, no announcements echoing through the hall. With 48 hours to its inauguration, the Namo Bharat rapid rail, at its pre-launch trial on Friday, covered 82 km in just 40 minutes—touching the top speed of 159kmph—though with no stopovers in between. The Namo Bharat trains have a design speed of 180kmph but a maximum operational speed of 160kmph.

Noida: ₹1200cr Link To Ganga Expressway, Yogi-Vaishnaw Visit, Man Arrested For Firing & More

At precisely noon, the train sped out of the elevated station, before the handful of passengers had settled into the wide recliner seats of the premium coach. Footrests clicked open, screens flickered to life, and the city slipped away below. At traffic junctions below, lines of cars waited for signals to turn green. Elsewhere, vehicles sped along service roads, suddenly sluggish by comparison. While the rapid rail trains are to complete their run from Delhi to Modipuram in less than an hour, the distance is covered by road in around one and a half hours, which sometimes stretches to around two hours during peak traffic.Within four minutes, the train crossed New Ashok Nagar station. The speed display oscillated between 80 and 100 kmph, climbing steadily as the skyline opened up. Soon, the train was gliding over the Yamuna, offering a fleeting aerial view of the DND Flyway on one side and the Signature Bridge near Wazirabad on the other. A staff member pointed out that the 1.3-km bridge beneath the train was Delhi’s longest over the river, and one of several engineering milestones along the route.Groves of kikar trees and scattered water bodies sped past as the train dipped underground near Anand Vihar at 12.10 pm. This is the corridor’s first subterranean station, where the Namo Bharat threads past the Delhi Metro’s Pink and Blue lines and the Anand Vihar railway station above. The pressure change was distinct — a mild ear pop, like the sensation during take-off on a flight. “Keep chewing,” a fellow passenger advised with a grin.Emerging from the tunnel at Sahibabad, the train surged ahead. Between Sahibabad and Duhai, it briefly touched 160 kmph. Dense clusters of buildings and shanties soon gave way to open farmland. Moments later, a calm announcement broke the quiet: “We have reached Meerut.” Industrial sheds and smoking chimneys marked the approach to Meerut South and Shatabdi Nagar. Then, just as abruptly, the train slipped underground again at Begumpul, before resurfacing at Modipuram at 12.39 pm. Forty minutes. Eighty-two kilometres. No halts. The corridor, stitched together by elevated viaducts, deep tunnels and massive pre-cast segments, has already been dressed for its formal inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday. Sarai Kale Khan Namo Bharat station in Delhi, which will be a multi-modal integration with Delhi Metro (Pink Line), Hazrat Nizamuddin railway station, Veer Haqeeqat Rai ISBT and city bus services, will be commissioned along with Shatabdi Nagar, Begumpul and Modipuram in Meerut. The Jangpura station in Delhi will be constructed later. The total project completion cost is Rs 30,274 crore. Currently, a 55km section across 11 stations from New Ashok Nagar to Meerut South is operational.Sarai Kale Khan station will serve as the converging point between all three corridors — Delhi-Panipat-Karnal, Delhi-SNB-Alwar and Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut — under the first phase of RRTS. “This interoperability will allow passengers to travel between corridors without changing trains,” said an official of National Capital Region Transport Corporation, which is executing the RRTS project. After the other two corridors are completed, the length of Delhi’s mass transit system, including Delhi Metro, will be 743km, which is more than the length of London Crossrail, Hong Kong MTR and Paris RER, said officials.(With inputs from Priyangi Agarwal)

Navi Mumbai: Traders evade fee, Rs 18 crore goods seized, Rs 60 lakh fine recovered | Mumbai News

Navi Mumbai: The vigilance squads of the Mumbai Agricultural Produce Market Committee (APMC) carried out a special drive in Jan and Feb against traders and importers evading APMC cess and market fees. In two months, agricultural produce worth Rs 17.5 crore was seized, and a total penalty of Rs 59.9 lakh was recovered from tax evaders. The special drive was carried out in the areas of JNPT, Turbhe, Nerul and along the Thane-Belapur Road, where several vehicles transporting agricultural produce were checked to ascertain that the APMC cess was paid for trading agricultural produce at the APMC market.

Mumbai: Violent Clash, Transport Fines, City Development & More

APMC member secretary Sharad Jare said, “The traders at the APMC markets were warned in advance of penal action if found indulging in evasion of 1% cess and market fees. It was found that several traders were selling spices without obtaining a licence from the market committee and also without paying cess and maintenance costs. However, some miscreants bypassed the market yard to evade the tax. Their modus operandi was to stock the goods in cold storages and warehouses and stealthily transport them, followed by selling them off, allegedly with the help of miscreant agents, it is presumed.”Jare added, “It was also found that some traders were directly trading pulses by evading cess. Some importers of agricultural produce did not give any prior notice before bringing the imported agricultural produce for trading within the limits of the APMC. It was also found that many did not have an importer’s licence as well. After the vigilance team was convinced that there was an intention to evade APMC cess and maintenance cost fees, penal action was taken against the tax evaders under Section 32(9) of the Maharashtra Agricultural Produce Marketing (Development-Regulation) Act, 1963.Jare continued, “The cess, market fees, maintenance costs and ancillary charges, along with a three-fold penalty, were recovered from the offenders. Those who paid the three-fold penalty were returned their seized vehicles. If the tax-evading traders do not produce valid documents of the traded commodities seized and fail to pay the penalty within 10 days, their entire seized commodities will be auctioned officially.

Fresh evidence of ancient naval battle found at Sindhudurg in Maharashtra | Mumbai News

Navi Mumbai: A study, highlighting evidence of an ancient naval battle at Kharepatan in Sindhudurg district has drawn attention from historians. This new evidence strengthens Konkan’s maritime history. At the temple complexes of Kapileshwar and Kalbhairav at Kharepatan, the researchers identified the hero stone (Veergal) depicting a vivid naval battle scene.

The sculpture portrays two boats engaged in combat. This visual evidence suggests that organised naval warfare once took place at Kharepatan, indicating not only active maritime trade but also the presence of structured naval power and coastal defense mechanisms in the region. The research was conducted by local scholars Murari Bhalekar and Rishikesh Jadhav under the guidance of historian Dr. Anjay Dhanawade. Their research findings were presented at the 15th National Annual Conference of the ‘Konkan Itihas Parishad’ held at Vasai. A Veergal is a commemorative memorial erected in honor of warriors who sacrificed their lives while defending their village or region from enemies. Dr. Dhanawade estimates that the naval battle likely dates back to the mid-12th century. Researchers have expressed hope that with proper conservation and scientific preservation, the neglected heritage of Kharepatan could transform the region into an important historical and heritage tourism destination.

Mumbai: Tree-destruction in eco-sensitive zone, complaint lodged by NGO | Mumbai News

Mumbai: The environmental NGO Vanashakti has recently lodged a complaint with various state authorities including the forest department and the BMC about the destruction of trees and other vegetation within the Royal Palms township in Goregaon (E) for the construction of huge sheds over two-acres area.“This site near the Windsor Gate of Royal Palms complex, near SGNP, is an eco-sensitive zone (ESZ). Hence, no major construction activity can be allowed here without the permission of the ESZ monitoring committee and the forest and civic bodies. However, it is disturbing to see several trees and vegetation cleared from the area in order to build huge sheds which will be rented out for film shoots. We are demanding that this illegal construction be stopped immediately,” said D Stalin, director of Vanashakti.

On Feb 17, a formal site inspection was carried out, based on the Vanashakti complaint. “The inspection team confirmed the destruction of trees, and have now communicated to BMC to take cognizance of the case, since this happens to be in ESZ,” said Stalin. He added that for the past many months, the biodiversity of this region, including wild animals, birds, has been affected.

“Toh vo khel kyu raha hai?” Mohammad Hafeez slams Miks Hesson for Babar Azam’s role in team

Former Pakistan skipper Mohammad Hafeez lashed out at Pakistan’s men’s cricket team head coach Mike Hesson for making some comments over Babar Azam’s strike rate in the format. For Hafeez, Hesson’s comments made no sense.

The former cricketer claimed that he went through Mike Hesson’s comments multiple times but couldn’t decode the meaning of them.

Why there are noises around Babar Azam

During an interaction season with Game On Hai, Hafeez criticized the coach heavily. Hesson, in the pre-match press for their Super 8 match with New Zealand, stated that Babar Azam’s strike rate is not suitable for top-order batting when the team needs to score runs at a quick pace.

After being demolished by Team India, Pakistan had no option but to outclass Namibia in their final group clash. During the must-win match with Namibia, while Pakistan’s opener Sahibzada Farhan scored a splendid century, Babar Azam, who was assigned to bat at number 4, did not come to bat because of management’s decision.

Pakistan head coach criticised Azam’s strike rate

Pakistan’s win over Namibia was not enough to distinguish the doubts around Babar Azam’s role in the team. The right-handed batter, who has been struggling with form in the format, still holds the top spot in the list of most runs in a career in T20Is with 4571 runs in 144 matches.

“I think he’s well aware that his strike rate in the powerplay in (T20) World Cups is less than 100. “So clearly, that’s not a role that we think we need here,” Mike Hesson said in the press conference when he was asked about Azam’s role in the setup.

“We think he’s a fine player through the middle, if required, in terms of if we’re in a little bit of trouble. Or as we saw against the USA, once he gets himself set, he can increase his strike rate at that point. So, we brought Babar back in for a specific role post the Asia Cup. We wanted some batsmanship through the middle, and he certainly brought that for us,” he continued.

Hafeez raised a question against Mike Hesson

Hesson’s comments did not go well with Mohammad Hafeez. The former skipper questioned, If the batter is not for the strategy, then why is he in the playing combination?

“He (Mike Hesson) said neither he’s a powerplay batter because his strike rate is 100… I read this statement 15 times, but I didn’t understand, which is why I am asking you, because you are like an elder brother, maybe you’ll understand. He said that Babar can’t bat in the first six overs, because his strike-rate is quite low; he gave that stat, nor could he bat after the 10th over. Toh vo khel kyu raha hai? (Why is he playing?)” Hafeez straightaway said.

GUWAHATI: Union home minister Amit Shah on Saturday accused the opposition of turning infiltrators into a vote bank and said if BJP returns to power in Assam in the upcoming assembly elections, infiltrators will be removed from the electoral rolls and deported from the country within five years. He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi possesses the “courage, determination, and firm resolve to free the country from infiltrators”.“The support of the state govt is essential to remove infiltrators, which would never be possible if the opposition party comes to power,” he said.He further said the Election Commission is conducting the Summary Revision (SIR) to help identify infiltrators, but “the Leader of the Opposition has launched an agitation against it.” Shah said, “The country will certainly be freed from infiltrators. Under our govt, the country is becoming free from Naxalism, and in the same way, Assam and the entire nation will also become free from infiltrators.”Shah was speaking at the foundation stone-laying ceremony of the Assam Police 10th Battalion headquarters at Kachutoli near the city on the land that was freed from encroachers in 2024.“During the rule of the opposition party’s govt, infiltrators had encroached upon 174 bighas of land, which has now been freed from their possession by the present chief minister of Assam, Himanta Biswa Sarma, and today’s programme is being held on that very land,” he said.“At the very place from where security challenges had once emerged, the 10th Battalion of the Assam Police — which will eliminate those challenges — is now being established,” he said.He added that the land occupied by infiltrators had posed a major threat to Guwahati, Assam, and the entire country and the “presence of these infiltrators was a serious challenge to the development of Assam.”Shah said,“During the tenure of the previous govt, infiltrators had entered the region and pushed Assam’s demographic situation to a dangerous level. The opposition party bears direct responsibility for several areas of Assam — such as Dhubri, Barpeta, Morigaon, Darrang, Bongaigaon, and Nagaon — becoming infiltrator-dominated.”He highlighted that chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has freed nearly 1.45 lakh bighas of land from infiltrators and provided govt jobs to more than 1.4 lakh people in Assam without corruption and issued a firm pledge, “If our govt is formed again in the next five years, we will identify and deport every infiltrator from the country.”Shah alleged that infiltrators had become a vote bank for the opposition and declared, “Once our party’s govt is formed, within the next five years we will remove infiltrators not only from the electoral rolls but also from the country.”Accusing the opposition of endangering Assam’s identity, Shah said, “By allowing infiltrators to enter, the opposition party handed over Assam’s fertile land to them, which harmed the identity of the Assamese community and also put its cultural heritage at risk.”
