‘Welcome 4’ will feature new villains

Earlier ‘Welcome’ movies starred the late Feroz Khan and Naseeruddin Shah as antagonists. Reportedly, the makers of the fourth film are keen to introduce new villains. ‘Welcome 4’ will have more than one lovable don known more for comic capers and timing than for underworld deeds. Top leading actors are in talks for these roles. It falls under the universe of genres that includes humour, glamour, and action.

‘Welcome’ franchise comedy universe

The ‘Welcome’ franchise is a popular comedy film series produced by Firoz A. Nadiadwala and directed by Anees Bazmee. It started with the 2007 blockbuster ‘Welcome’, which centred on Dubai‑based don Uday Shetty (Nana Patekar) and his foster brother Majnu Bhai (Anil Kapoor) trying to marry off Uday’s sister while hiding their criminal past. The film featured a star cast including Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif, Paresh Rawal, Mallika Sherawat, and the late Feroz Khan in his final role. The series continued with ‘Welcome Back’ (2015), which shifted the setting but brought back Uday, Majnu Bhai, and Dr. Ghungroo (Paresh Rawal) in another crime‑and‑comedy setup aimed at family audiences, featuring over‑the‑top action with comic‑style villains instead of dark gangsters.

WATCH: Ricky Martin, Sukhbir and Falguni Pathak deliver electrifying performances at T20 World Cup 2026 Final closing ceremony

The cricketing world stood still tonight at the iconic Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad as the T20 World Cup 2026 reached its fever-pitch conclusion. In a high-stakes rematch of legendary proportions, India faced off against New Zealand on March 8, 2026. With over 120,000 fans transforming the arena into a sea of blue and black, the atmosphere was electric long before the first ball was bowled.

India’s captain, Suryakumar Yadav, showed no signs of nerves at the toss. Despite New Zealand’s Mitchell Santner winning the flip and electing to bowl, Surya expressed supreme confidence in batting first on the red-soil surface. “We were looking to bat; it’s been working for us,” Surya remarked, eyeing a formidable total to defend on the same ground where history was made in 2023. Meanwhile, Santner banking on a “tinge of grass” to assist his seamers, made a tactical shift by bringing in Jacob Duffy for Cole McConchie.

Ricky Martin, Sukhbir & Falguni Pathak light up the T20 World Cup 2026 Final closing ceremony

Before the battle of the willow and leather commenced, the T20 World Cup 2026 closing ceremony delivered a masterclass in entertainment. The spectacle kicked off with the “Prince of Bhangra,” Sukhbir, who turned the stadium into a massive dance floor with a high-octane rendition of Ishq Tera Tadpave. The energy was then elevated by the “Queen of Dandiya,” Falguni Pathak, whose traditional folk-pop fusion resonated deeply with the Ahmedabad crowd, celebrating the cultural heartbeat of Gujarat.

The undisputed highlight, however, was the arrival of international sensation Ricky Martin. The Latin pop icon set the stage on fire with Livin’ la Vida Loca and The Cup of Life, his signature charisma bridging the gap between global pop culture and the spirit of cricket. The fusion of Martin’s pulsating rhythms with the rhythmic dhol of the Indian performers created a visual and auditory feast, perfectly setting the stage for the intense sporting drama to follow.

India and New Zealand’s quest for glory

As the music faded and the lights focused on the pitch, both teams revealed their tactical blueprints. India opted for stability, sticking with the same XI that dominated the semi-finals. The explosive trio of Sanju Samson, Abhishek Sharma and Ishan Kishan at the top, supported by the middle-order prowess of Tilak Varma and the finishing touch of Hardik Pandya, makes India a daunting side to restrict.

New Zealand, known for their clinical precision in ICC knockouts, bolstered their pace attack. With Lockie Ferguson and Matt Henry leading the charge, the Kiwis aim to exploit any early movement under the Ahmedabad lights.

Playing XI of both the teams

India: Abhishek Sharma, Sanju Samson (wk), Ishan Kishan, Suryakumar Yadav (c), Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya, Shivam Dube, Axar Patel, Varun Chakaravarthy, Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah.

New Zealand: Tim Seifert (wk), Finn Allen, Rachin Ravindra, Glenn Phillips, Mark Chapman, Daryl Mitchell, James Neesham, Mitchell Santner (c), Matt Henry, Lockie Ferguson, Jacob Duffy.

With the defending champions tag on their shoulders and a vocal home crowd behind them, India look to etch their name in history once more, while a peaking New Zealand stand ready to spoil the party.

Founder of Arya Mahila Samaj, she wrote The High-Caste Hindu Woman (1887) in the US and founded Sharada Sadan, a shelter that imparted vocational training and education to widows, in 1889 in Bombay. A century later in 1989, Harvey Road–leading to the sea–was renamed for this woman who swam against the tide

Sanju Samson continued his remarkable run in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 with another stunning knock in the final, giving India a blazing start with 89 runs off just 45 balls. The wicketkeeper batter once again set the tone at the top, attacking from the outset and keeping the pressure firmly on the opposition bowlers.Samson’s latest effort also helped India script a unique record in T20 World Cup history. For the first time ever, the top three batters in a team’s innings all crossed the 50-run mark in the same match. It highlighted the dominance of India’s batting line up on the biggest stage of the tournament. The 31 year old has also rewritten the record books with his six hitting this edition. Samson now holds the record for the most sixes in a single T20 World Cup campaign with 24, surpassing Finn Allen who had struck 20 sixes in an earlier edition. His 89 in the final has also gone down as the highest individual score in a T20 World Cup final. The Indian star surpassed the previous best of 85 not out by Marlon Samuels in 2016 and 85 by Kane Williamson in 2021.

Poll

Should Sanju Samson be a permanent starter for India in future T20 tournaments?

Samson’s consistency has been one of the standout stories of the tournament. He also joined an elite list of players who have scored half centuries in both the semi final and the final of a T20 World Cup. Only Shahid Afridi in 2009 and Virat Kohli in 2014 had previously achieved the feat before Samson added his name to the list in 2026.The Indian batter has also equalled another notable record for consecutive fifty plus scores in the tournament. Samson now has three successive scores of 50 or more in a T20 World Cup, placing him alongside some of the most consistent performers in the format. The list includes Mahela Jayawardene who achieved it in 2010, Virat Kohli who did so between 2016 and 2021, Babar Azam in 2021, KL Rahul in 2021, and two other players in the current edition, Kusal Mendis and Sahibzada Farhan.Sanju Samson also etched his name in the record books by becoming the highest-scoring Indian in a single edition of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. He surpassed Virat Kohli’s long-standing record of 319 runs, which was set during the 2014 tournament. What makes Samson’s achievement even more remarkable is that he was not part of India’s playing eleven at the start of the competition and featured in only five matches during the campaign.

The atmosphere at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad reached a fever pitch today, March 08, 2026, as the world witnessed a historic collision between India and New Zealand in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Final. In a tournament defined by high-octane drama and the evolution of the shortest format, the summit clash provided a cinematic opening that bridged India’s glorious past with its ambitious present.

MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma bring out the silverware in T20 World Cup 2026 Final

Before the first ball was even bowled, the capacity crowd of over 100,000 fans was treated to a sight for the ages. In a masterstroke of symbolism, former World Cup-winning captains MS Dhoni and Rohit Sharma walked out onto the lush Ahmedabad turf carrying the ICC T20 World Cup trophy.

The sight of Captain Cool, the man who led India to the inaugural title in 2007, alongside Rohit, the architect of the 2024 triumph, sent a clear message: the torch has been passed, but the legacy remains unbroken. As they placed the trophy on its pedestal, the stadium erupted in a deafening roar, signalling the start of a battle between New Zealand’s tactical precision and India’s raw power. New Zealand captain Mitchell Santner won the toss and elected to field, a decision that would quickly be put to the ultimate test by a relentless Indian batting order.

India targets a record-breaking total against New Zealand in the grand finale

Once the ceremonies concluded, the focus shifted to the middle, where India’s openers turned the final into a highlight reel. Despite the pressure of a World Cup final, Sanju Samson and Abhishek Sharma treated the New Zealand bowling attack with utter disdain. The Men in Blue signaled their intent from the opening over, racing to 50 runs in just 3.6 overs.

The Powerplay was nothing short of a nightmare for the Black Caps. India hammered 92 runs in the first 6 overs without losing a wicket. Abhishek Sharma was the primary aggressor, reaching a blistering 50 off just 18 balls, decorated with six boundaries and three towering sixes. Though Abhishek fell shortly after the drinks break for a 21-ball 52, the momentum never wavered.

By the 12-over mark, India sat comfortably at 161/1, boasting a current run rate of 13.41. With a live forecast predicting a mammoth total of 253, the New Zealand bowlers led by Lockie Ferguson and Matt Henry found no respite on a pitch that rewarded brave stroke-making. With heavyweights like Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya still in the hut, India is well on its way to setting a target that could redefine the standards of T20 World Cup finals.

‘Mitchell ko sorry bolne gya tha’: Arshdeep Singh after on-field spat with Daryl Mitchell | Cricket News

T20 World Cup final: Fans in Ahmedabad go wild | India create history

NEW DELHI: India created history at the Narendra Modi Stadium on Sunday, defeating New Zealand by 96 runs to become the first team to retain the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, claim a third title, and lift the trophy on home soil in front of 86,824 fans. Captain Suryakumar Yadav will now join the elite group of Indian captains to win a men’s cricket World Cup, maintaining an unbeaten record since taking charge in July 2024.The final had its share of drama during New Zealand’s chase, with India pacer Arshdeep Singh rattling Daryl Mitchell in a heated moment. In the fifth delivery of the 11th over, Arshdeep, reintroduced after the halfway mark, threw a follow-through ball at the stumps after collecting it, inadvertently hitting Mitchell on the thigh.

T20 World Cup final: Fans in Ahmedabad go wild | India create history

Mitchell, frustrated after earlier being sent for a six, charged at Arshdeep with animated gestures. Suryakumar quickly intervened, calming Mitchell, while the umpire spoke to Arshdeep. The pacer immediately apologized after delivering the final ball of the over, shaking hands and sharing a side hug with Mitchell.Reflecting on the incident in an interview with Harsha Bhogle, Arshdeep said: “Mai Mitchell ko sorry bolne gya tha [I just ran off to apologise to Mitchell]. The ball reverse-swung when I threw it and it hit him. Right now it feels great but the emotions will sink in the next 2-4 days. This is a very good team with a lot of match-winners, and the result will be cherry on the cake. As a bowler, our role is to restrict them to under 250 if we score 250 and when bowling first, it’s just to restrict them to as little as possible.Earlier, India’s batters had set the tone, with Sanju Samson blazing 89 off 46 balls, complemented by Abhishek Sharma’s 52 and Ishan Kishan’s 54. Their power-hitting propelled India to 255/5, the second-highest total of the tournament and the highest ever posted in a T20 World Cup final. James Neesham briefly slowed the onslaught with three wickets in a single over, but Shivam Dube’s unbeaten 26 off eight balls took India past 250.In reply, Axar Patel and Jasprit Bumrah demolished New Zealand’s top order, reducing the visitors to 52/3 inside the powerplay, extinguishing any chance of a record chase. India lived up to the hype, sealing a historic victory and capturing their third T20 World Cup title, having previously triumphed in 2007 and 2024.

Government lacks intent to achieve gender parity in courts: Ex-CJI | India News

Government lacks intent to achieve gender parity in courts: Ex-CJI

NEW DELHI: In a startling disclosure on International Women’s Day, former CJI NV Ramana on Sunday said the govt either lacked intent or determination towards achieving gender parity in constitutional courts, even though there was a healthy 40% representation by women among trial court judges.Speaking at a question-answer session during the first national conference of ‘Indian Women in Law’ at SC, Justice Ramana – who faced numerous pulls and pressures during his tenure as CJI from April 2021 to Aug 2022 – said, “The govt always showed a causal attitude in appointments of women (as judges of SC and high courts).”During his tenure as head of the collegium, three women judges – Justices Hima Kohli, Bela M Trivedi and BV Nagarathna – took oath on Aug 31, 2021, and created history. No other woman judge has been appointed to SC since then, despite the baton passing on to five CJIs – UU Lalit, DY Chandrachud, Sanjiv Khanna, BR Gavai and now Surya Kant. Justice Nagarathna will become the first woman CJI on Sept 24 next year. Speaking in her presence, the former CJI said there are two future CJIs in this gathering (referring to Justice Nagarathna and and her successor Justice PS Narasimha) and hoped that during their tenure at least 7-8 women judges will be appointed to SC. Justice Nagarathna, who will retire on Oct 29, 2027, assured Justice Ramana that she would try her best to get more women judges to the top court.Explaining what he meant by lack of intent on the govt’s part, Justice Ramana said though successive law ministers had routinely requested high court chief justices to recommend names of women advocates and judicial officers for appointment as HC judges, “the govt has never strongly insisted on effective representation of women in each and every recommendation.”Justice Ramana said there is a healthy 40% representation of women among judicial officers. There are only 116 women HC judges among a sanctioned strength of 1,122 and only one woman judge in SC, which has a sanctioned strength of 34 judges. He said it would be unfair to lay the blame entirely at the govt’s door for the skewed representation of women in the judiciary. “The judiciary must respond with sincerity towards inclusivity as there is no dearth of talented women lawyers who can be HC judges,” Justice Ramana said.“Except few HC’s, most major metropolitan centres – there exists a large pool of highly competent women lawyers. It is very worrisome, as to why these numbers are not reflected in the judicial appointments,” he said.

Gender balance in judiciary remains unfinished task: CJI | India News

Gender balance in judiciary remains unfinished task: CJI

NEW DELHI: With just one out of 33 judges in SC and around 15% of judges in HCs being women, CJI Surya Kant, on International Women’s Day, admitted that their fair and equal participation in the judiciary remained an unfinished task and appealed to HC collegiums to consider elevation of more women to the bench.Of the total working strength of 781 judges in 25 HCs, the number of women judges is only 116. Over the years, 291 women judges had been appointed in HCs out of a total appointment of 5,161, which makes it a meagre 5.6%. No woman judge has been appointed to SC since Sept 2021.Speaking on “Half the Nation, Half the Bench” at an event on SC premises, the CJI said women judges do not bring a different standard of justice but they do bring in a distinct perspective, and diversity. He said the institution must rise to address the concern of 650 million females in the country and make them believe the justice system understands the realities and would respond to them with fairness. He said institutional intent is not enough and should be accompanied by institutional imagination to realise the goal.“HC collegiums must recognise that the moment for measured action is not in the future, it is now… when suitable and meritorious women members are available at the Bar, then their consideration should not be an exception but a norm,” the CJI said.He underscored the need to widen the zone of consideration for judicial appointments and urged HCs not to reject candidates merely because they do not strictly meet the age requirement. “Where in certain HCs, if suitable women candidates within a particular age limit are not immediately available, that should not become a barrier,” he said.Justice Kant said the concern of enough women representation was being addressed, but more was needed. He said at present, two HCs have women chief justices, and with the elevation of Justice Lisa Gill, the number will rise to three. He mentioned Punjab and Haryana HC, which has 18 sitting women judges.“Every woman who takes a place on the bench sends a clear message to those who still face obstacle that your perseverance is not unseen and it is not in vain,” he said.
