Ex-India head coach warns KKR on their insane bid over Cameron Green

KKR made some massive investments in the IPL 2026 mini-auction but none of them seemed very wise from a cricketing point of view, as they invested a huge lot of money on talented yet out-of-form and injury-prone cricketers.

The Kolkata Knight Riders under new head coach Abhishek Nayar clearly looked to rebuild a new squad, as they released the majority of their big names as well, which included the franchise veteran Andre Russell. However, the players they picked in return didn’t seem the wisest of choices.

KKR made some wise picks in the form of the New Zealand trio, Finn Allen, Tim Seifert and Rachin Ravindra. However, there was a huge gamble on players like Cameron Green and Sri Lankan pacer Matheesha Pathirana, who did not seem a trustworthy call.

Australian legend sends massive warning to KKR on Cameron Green’s poor form ahead of IPL 2026

Former Australian legend Greg Chappell recently raised concerns about Cameron Green’s form ahead of the IPL 2026 season. To the legendary cricketer, the Australian all-rounder who once looked like a promising athletic all-rounder has now been stuck on the crease.

Chappell’s comments on the Australian all-rounder have come before he joins KKR as their marquee player for the upcoming season.

“I saw a very athletic young batsman with a beautiful setup and able to move in any direction, and now I see a batsman who is stuck at the crease, who cannot move, cannot use his athleticism, and cannot use his reach to score runs,” he said.

However, the former Australian skipper highlighted that his batting has been affected by his bowling workload, and he can still be one of the generation’s finest all-rounders if he manages his skill set well and is put under some quality advice.

“Bowling has impacted his batting. He can still be one of the great all-rounders of the game because he has the talent, but it depends on whether he has the decision-making and the mental skills to go with it, and whether he’s getting the best advice on where he is going,” Chappell added.

Cameron Green’s numbers have been disappointing in 2025

Cameron Green’s numbers have surely been disappointing over the last year in International cricket. The 26-year-old struggled during Australia’s World Cup campaign in the subcontinent, where he managed to score 24 runs with two single-digit scores in three games and picked up just one wicket.

On the other hand, before the start of the World Cup, he was Australia’s highest run getter in the series against Pakistan, where the World cricket giants were left humiliated by the hosts. In that series, he managed to score 93 runs at an average of 31 and a strike rate of 124.

Cameron Green’s last half-century since returning to the Test format came against the West Indies in July 2025, and his last international hundred came in August 2025 against South Africa. In the home Ashes series, he managed to score a mere 171 runs across eight innings at an awful average of 24.42.

Cameron Green’s IPL Stats

Having made his debut in 2023, the 26-year-old Australian all-rounder has played the IPL twice in 2023 and 2024, for the two renowned franchises, the Mumbai Indians and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru.

Green had the best debut season, as he amassed 452 runs first up with a maiden IPL century, averaging nearly 50, and also picked up 6 wickets with the ball. However, his next season with the Royal Challengers did not go as planned, as he managed to put on 255 runs across 13 appearances and picked 10 wickets with the ball.

Speaking of great advice, which Chappell mentioned to shape Green’s career as an all-rounder, he would rightly get it in the KKR camp. He will be practicing under the guidance of one of Australia’s greatest ever white-ball all-rounders, Shane Watson.

While 12 people were pulled from the wreckage and rushed to various medical facilities, nine of them were either declared dead on arrival or succumbed to injuries later. The blaze at the building, located in WZ block in Ram Chowk Market, broke out around 7am and a thick cloud of smoke soon engulfed the four-storeyed building. The emergency response team involved 30 fire tenders and 100 firefighters, who battled the blaze for hours. They were supported by 11 CATS ambulances, police as well as personnel from NDRF. The building housed a cloth and cosmetics showroom named ‘Pravesh Moderate’ in the basement, ground floor and first floor, while the family lived on second and third floors. The presence of large stockpiles of garments and cosmetic items acted as fuel to fire. As the flames engulfed lower floors, upper floors became a death trap for the residents. “Seven bodies were recovered from a hall on the third floor, while two bodies were found from a bathroom of the building,” the officer said. After the postmortems, nine bodies have been cremated. Businessman Yogesh Sharma, an eyewitness, said they tried to break open the showroom shutter to rescue those trapped inside. “My son was on his way to his college when he alerted me about the blaze at the shop. Along with other residents, I rushed to the spot. It took nearly 4 to 5 hours to bring the fire under control,” he said. While police claimed that the residents of the building were awake at the time of the incident, locals said they were sleeping and were alerted by other residents.“We came to know that the water motor had been left switched on, which may have caused a spark,” resident Ramesh Kumar said. However, the police said they are still investigating the cause of the fire.At Manipal Hospital, eight victims were identified: Lado Devi, (70), 33-year-old Pravesh, 39-year-old Kamal, 35-year-old Ashu, Himanshi (22) and three minor girls Niharika (15), Ivani (6) , and Jessica (3). At IG Hospital, 28-year-old Deepika was declared dead. Three others are currently battling for life, including 32-year-old Anil and 2-year-old Mitali at IGI Hospital. Sachin, 29, was admitted to Safdarjung Hospital with 25% burn injuries.According to family members, Deepika is suspected to have died of suffocation even though she suffered some burns. Anil and Mitali survived after Anil threw Mitali from the fourth floor and jumped thereafter. Mitali sustained fractures in both her legs after the fall while Anil sustained head injuries. Sachin also survived the fire with injuries after jumping to an adjacent house.A case under sections 287 (negligent conduct with respect to fire or combustible matter), 125 (Act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 106 (1) (Causing death by negligence) of BNS has been registered. The fire was doused by evening after which cooling and search operations were initiated. Compensation packages have been announced by Delhi govt and PMO. PMO said compensation of Rs 2 lakh from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund will be provided to the next of kin of each deceased, while those injured will receive Rs 50,000. Worrying signs for KKR? Ex-Australia captain says Cameron Green ‘cannot move’ | Cricket News

Worrying signs for KKR? Ex-Australia captain says Cameron Green 'cannot move'

Former Australia captain Greg Chappell has raised concerns about the batting form of all-rounder Cameron Green ahead of the IPL 2026 season, saying the youngster is not moving freely at the crease.Green is set to play for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) after being signed for Rs 25.20 crore. Despite scoring a century in the Sheffield Shield against New South Wales, Chappell said there are concerns around his overall batting rhythm. As quoted by SEN Cricket, Chappell said Green’s bowling workload may be affecting his batting, and added that his progress will depend on his decision-making and support system.“Bowling has impacted his batting. He can still be one of the great all-rounders of the game because he has the talent, but (it depends on) whether he has got the decision making, the mental skills to go with it, whether he’s getting the best advice on where he is going,” Chappell said.“I saw a very athletic young batsman with a beautiful setup and able to move in any direction, and now I see a batsman who is stuck at the crease, who cannot move, cannot use his athleticism, cannot use his reach to score runs,” he added.Green had a difficult T20 World Cup, scoring 24 runs in three innings, including two single-digit scores, and picking up one wicket. He was under pressure to justify his price tag and secure his place in Australia’s plans. In the series against Pakistan before the World Cup, which Australia lost 3-0, Green scored 93 runs in three innings at an average of 31.00 and a strike rate above 124, with a highest score of 36.His Test record also shows modest returns. Green has scored 1,736 runs in 37 Tests and 59 innings at an average of 32.75, with two centuries and seven fifties. His last century came two years ago in New Zealand, where he scored 174* batting at number four.During the recent home Ashes against England, he managed 171 runs in eight innings at an average of 24.42, with a highest score of 45. At home, his Test average stands at 28.96 after 20 matches, with four fifties in 31 innings.

Teachers: Why no paternity leave for school staff? | Mumbai News

Mumbai: A teachers’ body wrote to CM Devendra Fadnavis on Wednesday seeking extension of paternity leave and childcare leave (CCL) benefits to school and junior college staff, flagging disparities in existing provisions. It said while male staffers in state govt and degree colleges are entitled to 15 days of paternity leave, those working in schools and junior colleges are not covered under the policy. The representation termed the exclusion inequitable and called for uniform application of leave benefits across institutions. “Why should teachers in schools and junior colleges be denied [paternity leave]? The rules need to be uniform for all educators in the state,” said Shriprakash Dixit, president of Mumbai Regional Junior College Teachers Organisation, in the letter. The letter also highlighted gaps in CCL provisions, noting that women staffers in aided schools are eligible for 180 days of leave as per a July 23, 2018, govt resolution, but those employed in unaided schools are excluded. It urged govt to extend paternity leave to male staff in schools and junior colleges and grant CCL to women in unaided institutions.

Qatar expels Iranian military, security attachés and staff after strikes on key energy facilities

Qatar expels Iranian military, security attachés and staff after strikes on key energy facilities
QatarEnergy says Iranian missiles hit Ras Laffan Industrial City, causing “extensive damage”

Qatar on Wednesday expelled key Iranian military and security officials along with their staff from its territory, escalating tensions after missile strikes hit key energy infrastructure in the Gulf. The Qatari Foreign Ministry said on Thursday it had declared the military and security attachés at the Iran embassy, along with their staff, “persona non grata” and ordered them to leave within 24 hours. “The Ministry of Foreign Affairs delivered an official note to the Embassy of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the State, stating that Qatar considers both the military attache and the security attache at the embassy, in addition to the staff of the two attache offices ‘persona non grata’, and requests that they leave the country within a maximum period of (24) hours,” the ministry said. The move followed a meeting between protocol chief Ibrahim Yousif Fakhro and Iran’s ambassador to Qatar, Ali Salehabadi. Doha said the decision came “in response to repeated Iranian targeting and the blatant aggression against the State of Qatar, which violated its sovereignty and security, in a flagrant breach of the principles of international law, United Nations Security Council Resolution No. 2817, and the principles of good neighbourliness.” “The continuation of this hostile approach by the Iranian side will be met with additional measures by the State of Qatar, in a manner that ensures the protection of its sovereignty, security, and national interests,” the ministry added, stressing that the country “reserves the right to take all necessary measures to protect its sovereignty and security, in accordance with the provisions of international law.” The diplomatic fallout came after missile strikes targeted the Ras Laffan Industrial City, a critical gas processing hub. Qatar’s Interior Ministry said emergency teams were responding to a fire “following an Iranian targeting,” while QatarEnergy confirmed the site had suffered “significant damage.” “QatarEnergy confirms that Ras Laffan Industrial City this evening has been the subject of missile attacks. Emergency response teams were deployed immediately to contain the resulting fires, as extensive damage has been caused. All personnel have been accounted for and no casualties have been reported at this time,” the company said.Qatar warned the strikes marked a “dangerous escalation, a flagrant violation of the State’s sovereignty, and a direct threat to its national security and the stability of the region.”

‘Fly to India for free’: DHS uses Taj Mahal to promote ‘self-deportation’ with $2,600 incentive for undocumented migrants

The US Department of Homeland Security promoted a “self-deportation” scheme using imagery of India’s Taj Mahal and offering financial incentives to undocumented migrants who agree to leave the country voluntarily. In a post shared on social media, the department appeared to advertise free flights to India alongside a cash benefit of up to $2,600 for those choosing to exit the United States on their own. The message featured the Taj Mahal, suggesting that the programme was an easier and more beneficial alternative to forced deportation. It also featured China and Colombia, which have large populations in the US as immigrants.

India On Target? Taj Mahal In Controversial US Deportation Ad Sparks Debate Over Migrant Exit Policy

Under the initiative, migrants without legal status are encouraged to notify authorities of their intention to leave. In return, they may receive assistance with travel arrangements and a financial payout. Officials say the programme is designed to reduce enforcement costs and ease pressure on detention systems, while also allowing individuals to avoid legal penalties linked to formal deportation. However, the campaign has drawn backlash, particularly over its use of cultural imagery. Social media argued that using the Taj Mahal, one of the seven wonders of the world, risks trivialising a serious issue. Some have also questioned whether the messaging unfairly targets specific communities, raising concerns about racism and xenophobia, or oversimplifies the complex realities faced by undocumented migrants.

Poll

Do you think the self-deportation scheme effectively addresses the issue of undocumented migrants?

Immigration advocates say the offer of money and free travel may appeal to those in difficult situations, but warn that such schemes can mask long-term consequences. Leaving the US voluntarily under these programmes may still affect a person’s ability to return legally in the future, depending on their immigration history. The DHS has also advised migrants to use the Customs and Border Protection (CBP) app to begin the process, allowing them to register their intent to leave the country voluntarily, submit their details, and access information about travel assistance and the financial incentive offered under the programme.

AFT puts Col Purohit’s retirement on hold till his promotion plea is heard | India News

AFT puts Col Purohit’s retirement on hold till his promotion plea is heard
Colonel (time scale) Purohit Prasad Shrikant

NEW DELHI: In a reprieve for Colonel (time scale) Purohit Prasad Shrikant, the Armed Forces Tribunal (AFT) has directed that his retirement be kept in abeyance until a decision is taken on his statutory complaint seeking consideration for promotion and other service benefits following his acquittal in the 2008 Malegaon blast case. He was due to retire on Mar 31.A bench comprising AFT chairperson Justice Rajendra Menon and administrative member Rasika Chaube passed the order while hearing a plea filed by the Army officer seeking promotion to the rank of Colonel and thereafter to Brigadier.Invoking the jurisdiction of the tribunal under Section 14 of Armed Forces Tribunal Act, 2007, the applicant contended that he was denied promotions while facing a criminal trial after his arrest in 2008.In its order passed on Mar 16, the tribunal issued notice to the Union govt and other respondents, asking them to explain as to why directives should not be issued to consider the officer’s case for promotion and grant of all consequential service benefits on a par with his batchmates or subordinates. On being contacted, a source in the Army told TOI, “Indian Army will examine the judgment and thereafter take action as per policy provisions.”Explaining the ‘Colonel (time scale)’ rank, the source said, “In the service bracket of 15-18 years, Lt Colonels are considered for promotion (by a promotion board). Around 30-50% of Lt Colonels become Colonels. The rest of them stay as Lt Colonels. Once these Lt Colonels complete 26 years of service and also have an impeccable service (record), they are given the rank of Colonel (time scale). Purohit completed 26 years of service long back. Since he was facing disciplinary action and vigilance ban, he was given the Colonel (time scale) rank only after his acquittal.”“Prima facie, we find that a case is made out where the applicant may be right in contending that he is entitled to be considered for the grant of promotion and all other service benefits at par with his juniors, which were denied to him,” the AFT observed. It further said that the officer’s claim that he was “implicated in the case in an illegal, fabricated manner” appeared to have been established by the criminal court. The matter has been listed for further hearing on May 22.

2012 IPL hero Manvinder Bisla joins KKR in a new role

Former IPL Champion player from the Kolkata Knight Riders camp, Manvinder Bisla, has now taken up a new role for the Knights ahead of the 2026 IPL season. The KKR wicketkeeper was formerly part of Gautam Gambhir‘s IPL-winning team in 2012.

Kolkata Knight Riders have largely revamped their coaching unit. Dwayne Bravo, the IPL legend, will continue to serve as their mentor. However, Abhishek Nayar has replaced Chandrakant Pandit as the head coach, and his role will be key for KKR.

Kolkata Knight Riders finished their previous campaign on a low note after they managed to win only 5 of their 14 games. To no one did it seem the same team that won the IPL 2024 under skipper Shreyas Iyer and mentor Gautam Gambhir. However, this time they will have to aim to turn the tide.

Former IPL champions Manvinder Bisla re-associated with KKR ahead of the 2026 season

KKR’s head coach, Abhishek Nayar, gave a light introduction of the coaching staff before the start of the IPL 2026 season, as the team gathered to begin the preparations for the IPL. In doing so, he introduced former KKR star Manvinder Bisla as one of the scouting members for the team.

“We have got Bisla and Biju (George), who are our heads of scouting. Our scouting team is here to help us in the phase of building up,” said the KKR head coach.

Bisla is a known name with the Kolkata Knight Riders, as he was part of the squad that won the first-ever IPL title for the Kolkata Knight Riders, only the fourth franchise to have won it back then in 2012.

Head coach Abhishek Nayar gives Shane Watson a warm welcome at KKR

The KKR head coach, who had formerly been part of the KKR unit as an assistant coach and later joined the Indian team for a brief stint, is now back as the Head coach of the unit and seems blessed to have former CSK and RR all-rounder Shane Watson as his assistant coach for the season.

“Just a very formal welcome from me. A few new entrants. I think I should start by introducing them. Everyone knows Shane Watson as a player, but I have known him as someone who has played under him as a player, and I’m really, really happy, ‘Watto,’ to have you with us.

“I think you have been a terrific addition, even in this small period that I’ve interacted with you. Tap into his experience; you know you will learn a lot. We’ve had a lot of good coaches, but I’m pretty sure that Shane Watson is going to add a lot of value to us.

“So, Watto, welcome to the KKR family,” Abhishek Nayar said in his welcoming speech.

KKR to start their IPL 2026 campaign against the Mumbai Indians

Kolkata Knight Riders will be aiming to make a promising start, and the season begins on the KKR skipper Ajinkya Rahane‘s home ground, the Wankhede Stadium, against the five-time champions Mumbai Indians.

KKR will be up against the mighty MI side, comprising the World Cup-winning all-rounder Hardik Pandya, Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav and ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah, oogling fire after the terrific World Cup showdown.
