NE DELHI: Beer makers on Tuesday warned of supply disruptions this summer due to cost increase and inadequate availability of packing material, while Indian alcohol makers have asked states to revise prices of Indian Made Foreign Liquor, citing price pressures. Will Jasprit Bumrah miss IPL 2026? MI star’s CoE visit raises questions

Just days before their IPL 2026 opener, Mumbai Indians (MI) find themselves dealing with unexpected uncertainty. Their pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah has checked into the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru, and with no official clarification yet, fans are left anxious about his availability for the start of the season.

The situation has sparked concern mainly because of Bumrah’s absence from a recent Mumbai Indians team event, “The Mix.” While key players like Hardik Pandya, Suryakumar Yadav, and Tilak Varma were present, Bumrah was nowhere to be seen. Instead, reports suggested he had travelled to the CoE – a facility known for rehabilitation and performance monitoring.

Jasprit Bumrah visit to the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence

What makes this development more intriguing is the lack of clarity. Neither the BCCI nor the Mumbai Indians management has confirmed whether Bumrah is dealing with an injury or simply undergoing routine fitness checks. This uncertainty has only fueled speculation, especially with MI set to face Kolkata Knight Riders on March 29 at the Wankhede Stadium.

Earlier, MI head coach Mahela Jayawardene had indicated that players involved in India’s T20 World Cup-winning campaign were given extra rest.

“Every year, our aim is to get there (win the IPL trophy). But I know it’s a long season. So pre-season will start the way we usually start, working hard, getting new boys into the setup. And with our (T20) World Cup guys, we’ve given them a bit of an extended break so that they will join us next weekend,” Jayawardene had said.

While that explains a delayed arrival, it doesn’t fully answer why Bumrah is currently at the CoE instead of linking up with the squad. Naturally, this has led to widespread speculation. Many believe it could simply be a precautionary assessment after his heavy workload, especially considering his standout performance in the T20 World Cup final against New Zealand, where he delivered a match-winning spell.

For now, though, the silence from official channels continues to keep everyone guessing.

Why Bumrah’s availability is crucial for Mumbai Indians?

The concern around Bumrah isn’t just about one player missing a game – it’s about the backbone of Mumbai Indians’ bowling attack. His numbers from IPL 2025 highlight exactly why his presence is so vital. He picked up 18 wickets in just 12 matches while maintaining a stunning economy rate of 6.67 – an extraordinary feat in a format dominated by high-scoring games.

Bumrah isn’t just another bowler; he’s MI’s go-to option in every phase – new ball, middle overs, and death. His ability to deliver under pressure makes him irreplaceable. Even with quality pacers like Trent Boult and Deepak Chahar in the squad, replicating Bumrah’s unique skill set is nearly impossible.

As things stand, MI fans are left waiting for an official update. The hope remains that Bumrah’s visit to the CoE is just a precautionary step before he joins the squad fully fit. But until confirmation arrives, the question lingers – will MI have their biggest match-winner ready when IPL 2026 begins?

RCB’s valuation increases by a staggering 1495 percent in 18 years | Cricket News

RCB's valuation increases by a staggering 1495 percent in 18 years
Rajat Patidar-led Royal Challengers Bengaluru won the IPL 2025.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru was the second-most-expensive franchise when the BCCI sold the original eight teams in the IPL. Vijay Mallya bought the Bengaluru franchise for $111.6 million (Rs 446.40 crore; $1 = Rs 40 then) in 2008, just behind the $111.90 million that Reliance Industries paid for the Mumbai Indians.“My sole purpose behind buying RCB was to promote my whisky brand, Royal Challenge; there wasn’t any cricket love behind it,” Mallya said recently during a podcast about his decision to buy RCB.

Structurally speaking, the team was owned by United Spirits/United Spirits subsidiaries (often described as Royal Challengers Sports/United Spirits Sports, etc.), with Mallya’s UB Group as the promoter of United Spirits. In 2012–13, the Diageo Group agreed to acquire control of United Spirits Limited (USL). By the mid-2010s, Diageo had effective and then majority control of USL, and hence of the franchise, even though UB Holdings retained a minority shareholding in USL for some time.Vijay Mallya eventually exited USL’s board and gave up active control of the franchise around 2016 amid legal and financial troubles. This left Diageo/USL as the effective owner and operator of RCB.In March 2024, the franchise officially changed its name from Royal Challengers Bangalore to Royal Challengers Bengaluru, aligning with the city’s new spelling.RCB ended their IPL title drought by winning the title in 2025, the 18th edition of the T20 competition. In late 2025, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, owned by United Spirits Limited, a Diageo subsidiary, put the franchise up for sale.Multiple bidders came to the table with Aditya Birla Group, TOI Group, Bolt Ventures & Blackstone consortium triumphing by virtue of the biggest bid of $1.78 billion. In absolute terms, Royal Challengers Bengaluru has seen a $1.67 billion increase in value over the 18 years. This represents a 1495 percent rise, or 16-times the original price paid by Vijay Mallya.

Thane transport to adopt AI to optimise shrinking bus fleet and maximise revenue | Mumbai News

Thane: The Thane municipal transport will start adopting AI in a bid to optimise its already strained fleet of buses, maximise carrying capacity, and earn more revenue in the next fiscal year. The plans mentioned in the Rs 791.86 crore budget presentation for 2026-27, made by municipal transport (TMT) manager Balchandra Behere on Monday, outline that while the volume of passengers on TMT buses has increased, the fleet size hasn’t increased in tandem, due to which they have to optimise the existing fleet, most of which often get stuck on traffic-prone routes within and beyond the city limits, pushing the schedules out of gear. Passengers waiting at the Thane Satis or at various points along the Ghodbunder often complain about queues on certain routes getting longer, while empty buses continue to be plied on other routes due to the present rigid timetable, which not just leaves commuters frustrated but also diverts potential revenue to private bus services and agencies. Field officials said the traffic congestion on several routes delays the arrival of the vehicles at bus stations, due to which the route inspectors are unable to schedule them, which will be managed once the ITMS system is fully in operation. Plus, the shortage on certain revenue-rich routes is due to buses plying on non-profitable routes, and the plans are likely to make the schedules of buses more flexible, which means services will be deployed based on the need. Officials also point out how buses often end up in the workshops due to overcrowding and navigating poor road conditions, especially along the Ghodbunder. “Often, our buses carry 100 passengers at any given time, which is over double the permissible passengers, as the volume of on-road buses has shrunk mainly due to frequent wear and tear of vehicles,” confirmed an official requesting anonymity. “We are working on implementing the Intelligent Traffic Management System for our buses, where we will be able to locate the position of buses, analyse the tickets sold at a particular stretch and time, and accordingly reschedule the next bunch of buses on different routes depending on requirements. This will help us reduce the losses incurred by plying buses on non-profitable routes,” said Behere. Meanwhile, the administration claimed to be getting over 360 buses inducted into the Thane transport fleet by the end of the next fiscal year. “Around 100 air-conditioned electric buses are expected to be inducted into the TMT fleet under the PM-eBus Sewa Scheme in 2026-27, while the tendering process is underway for 110 more additional AC e-buses, including 10 double-deckers, and 160 more through the 15th Finance Commission’s NCAP grants,” explained Behere.

Gir Somnath Spaceport: Gujarat government plans India’s third spaceport near Gir Somnath | India News

Gujarat government plans India’s third spaceport near Gir Somnath

NEW DELHI: After Sriharikota spaceport and the upcoming launch port at Kulasekarapattinam in Tamil Nadu’s Thoothukudi district, India’s third satellite launch centre is likely to come up in Gujarat.Gujarat science and technology minister Arjun Modhwadia recently announced in state assembly that a proposed launch site near Gir Somnath district along the Arabian Sea coast has been identified. While speaking on budgetary demands for his department, Modhwadia said the site was identified after consultations with space regulator and promoter Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe). “As per our request, IN-SPACe has found a suitable location which can be developed as a launchpad for putting satellites into orbit, just like Sriharikota. That location is between the UT of Diu and Kodinar. We are now moving forward in that direction,” the minister said.Talking to TOI, a senior space official said, “A state govt or even a private entity can build a satellite launch centre in India. The process has become streamlined, especially after reforms in the space sector. But conducting satellite launch operations from that site will require prior authorisation from IN-SPACe, which serves as the single-window nodal agency under the Department of Space.”According to Norms, Guidelines and Procedures (NGP) for Implementation of Indian Space Policy-2023, “Any space activity, which shall include, inter-alia, launch, operation, guidance and/or re-entry of any space object, as outlined in Section-5 of Indian Space Policy-2023, shall need authorisation from IN-SPACe”.As Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) handles airspace regulation, it issues Notice to Air Missions (NOTAM) to warn aircraft before any satellite or rocket launch. Therefore, DGCA’s role also comes into play before any rocket launch. As part of its initiative to promote the space sector, the Gujarat govt is also setting up a Gujarat space park across 100 acres near Sanand to attract companies working in space technology and satellite manufacturing. Minister Modhwadia said space technology-based industrial units are expected to come up at the facility, which will help build a broader ecosystem for the sector.“I am happy to say that Azista Aerospace has started work to manufacture small satellites at a cost of Rs 500 crore, and the process of allocating land to them has begun,” the minister told the assembly. According to him, the facility will become India’s first private-sector satellite manufacturing plant capable of handling end-to-end operations. These initiatives are aimed at positioning Gujarat as a key hub in India’s rapidly expanding space sector.India’s primary spaceport at Sriharikota, officially known as the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) SHAR, became operational on Oct 9, 1971, with the launch of an RH-125 sounding rocket. The spaceport has till now launched 434 foreign satellites, 134 spacecraft missions and 18 satellites launched by private players or students.India’s second spaceport at Kulasekarapattinam in TN is under construction with Rs 985.9 crore allocated for the project, with commissioning targeted for this financial year.

The public interest litigation was moved by T Prabhakaran. As per the fixtures released by the organisers of IPL, two matches are scheduled in MA Chidambaram Stadium on April 3 and April 11, between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Punjab Kings, and CSK and Delhi Capitals.According to the petitioner, since the election process to the Tamil Nadu state Assembly has commenced, the entire state machinery is under the control of the Election Commission of India (ECI), and the entire bureaucratic machinery is geared up to conduct the election and ensure that a free and fair election is conducted.Particularly, the police department, which is tasked with the duty of regular law and order in addition to other work pertaining to the prevention of crimes, will be tasked with election-related work. While so, permitting IPL matches in Chepauk stadium will burden the Chennai police with providing security to the matches and players and maintaining law and order in and around the stadium, he said.“It is also pertinent to note that considering the fact that the matches are viewed worldwide, there is also a viable possibility that the political parties contesting the election may see to it that their supporters gather inside and outside the stadium in order to ensure propaganda for their respective parties and, in such circumstances, the same may result in clashes inside the stadium,” he said. The PIL is likely to be taken up for hearing by the first bench of the court, headed by Chief Justice Sushrut Arvind Dharmadhikari, on Thursday.

Former CSK star picks his ideal playing XI of Mumbai Indians for IPL 2026

The excitement around the Indian Premier League (IPL) is getting high day-by-day as the 2026 season is all set to get underway on March 28. With teams finalizing their combinations and fans eagerly waiting for the action to unfold, all eyes are once again on one of the most successful franchises in the league’s history — Mumbai Indians (MI).

After a few inconsistent seasons, MI head into IPL 2026 with renewed confidence and a squad that looks both balanced and explosive. The return of familiar faces and the addition of dynamic players have sparked optimism among fans and experts alike. With Hardik Pandya leading the side, the five-time champions are aiming to reclaim their dominance and potentially create history by clinching a record sixth IPL title.

Former CSK batter picks his ideal playing XI of Mumbai Indians

Former Chennai Super Kings batter S Badrinath has shared his ideal playing XI for Mumbai Indians ahead of the new season, and his selection reflects both experience and firepower across departments.

At the top of the order, Badrinath has backed Rohit Sharma and Quinton de Kock to provide a solid yet aggressive start. The duo’s experience and ability to handle pressure make them one of the most reliable opening combinations in the league.

The middle order looks equally formidable with Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, and all-rounder Hardik Pandya forming the core. Suryakumar’s innovative strokeplay, Tilak’s composure, and Hardik’s all-round capabilities offer MI both stability and explosiveness in crucial phases of the game.

Adding further depth is England’s Will Jacks, who brings power-hitting and off-spin options, along with young talent Naman Dhir, who has impressed with his domestic performances.

In the all-rounders and bowling department, Mitchell Santner provides a spin option alongside batting depth, while the pace attack looks lethal with Deepak Chahar, Trent Boult, and Jasprit Bumrah. This trio is capable of dismantling any batting lineup with the new ball and at the death. Badrinath has also named Shardul Thakur as the Impact Substitute, giving MI additional flexibility depending on match conditions.

S Badrinath’s MI XI for IPL 2026: Rohit Sharma, Quinton de Kock, Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Hardik Pandya (c), Will Jacks, Naman Dhir, Mitchell Santner, Deepak Chahar, Trent Boult, Jasprit Bumrah

Impact Sub: Shardul Thakur

Can Mumbai Indians win their sixth IPL title?

Mumbai Indians enter IPL 2026 as one of the strongest contenders to lift the trophy. On paper, the squad ticks nearly every box, with a powerful Indian core and impactful overseas additions. The presence of Rohit, Suryakumar, and Tilak ensures stability in the batting lineup, while the return of De Kock strengthens the top order. Will Jacks adds an X-factor as a finisher, making the batting unit deep and versatile.

Their bowling attack is equally impressive, with Bumrah and Trent Boult reuniting to form one of the most dangerous pace duos in T20 cricket. Chahar’s ability to swing the new ball further enhances their powerplay threat. However, there are a few concerns. The lack of experienced Indian spin options could be a potential weakness, especially on turning tracks. Additionally, the fitness of key pacers like Bumrah and Chahar will be crucial over the course of the tournament.
