IPL pull grows: PSL commentator named in IPL commentary panel, may exit midway

The Pakistan Super League (PSL) began on Thursday with limited activity around the tournament, as Lahore Qalandars defeated Hyderabad Kingsmen by 69 runs at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. The match was played without spectators after the Pakistan government introduced fuel-saving measures amid concerns over supplies due to the ongoing conflict in West Asia. The PSL opening ceremony, scheduled for Thursday night, was also cancelled for the same reason. The situation has extended beyond empty stands, with uncertainty now surrounding player and commentator participation, putting the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), led by Mohsin Naqvi, under pressure.Naqvi had earlier said the board is considering action against players who have exited the PSL for the IPL. “Yes, two to three players have also left. We are planning to take legal action on them,” he told reporters.Among those who switched leagues, Zimbabwe fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani joined Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) as a replacement for Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman. Muzarabani had earlier been signed by PSL’s Islamabad United as a replacement for West Indies pacer Shamar Joseph but opted to move to the IPL.Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka is also set to join Rajasthan Royals as a replacement for the injured Sam Curran, after being part of Lahore Qalandars. Chennai Super Kings have signed Australian pacer Spencer Johnson as a replacement for Nathan Ellis. Johnson had previously signed with Quetta Gladiators for the PSL 2026 season. The movement is not limited to players. Former England cricketer Nick Knight, who was recently named in the PSL commentary panel, has now also been included in the IPL broadcast panel for Star Sports. IPL broadcaster Star Sports named Nick Knight as its commentator for English commentary in the IPL. However, there’s no confirmation on when he will join the IPL.

IPL 2026: Virat Kohli scripts history, becomes the first player to… | Cricket News

In a historic milestone, Virat Kohli became the first cricketer to feature in all 19 seasons of the Indian Premier League, achieving the feat during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s season-opening clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Saturday, March 28, 2026. The match was a perfect stage for Kohli to showcase his class. After SRH posted 201 for nine, stand-in skipper Ishan Kishan starred with 80 off 38 balls, supported by Heinrich Klaasen’s 31 in a 97-run fourth-wicket partnership. Jacob Duffy impressed early with figures of 3 for 22, exploiting the bounce on a pitch that hadn’t hosted top-flight cricket for nearly 10 months. Chasing 202, RCB’s response was led by Devdutt Padikkal and Kohli. Padikkal’s 26-ball 61 and Kohli’s unbeaten 69 off 38 balls powered a dominant six-wicket win, with the hosts reaching the target in just 15.4 overs. The duo stitched a 101-run partnership for the second wicket in 45 balls, entertaining the Chinnaswamy crowd with contrasting but equally effective styles — Padikkal with wristy, aggressive strokes, and Kohli with precision drives, flicks, and his trademark ‘swat’ shot. Padikkal raced to his fifty in just 21 balls, including 6, 4, 6 off David Payne and later a 4 and 6 off Harsh Dubey. Kohli, meanwhile, brought up his half-century in 33 balls, mixing classical drives with quick-fire boundaries. The only minor hiccups came with the dismissals of Padikkal, Rajat Patidar (31 off 12 balls), and Jitesh Sharma, but the chase was never in doubt. For SRH, Kishan’s blitz was the highlight. After early wickets reduced them to 29 for three, Kishan’s fearless strokeplay, including 8 fours and 5 sixes, kept SRH competitive. He fell to a stunning one-handed catch by Phil Salt near deep backward point, with Aniket Verma (43 off 19 balls) trying to accelerate in the final overs after being dropped by Kohli on 26. RCB’s dominant reply, under Kohli’s experienced guidance, set the tone for their IPL-2026 campaign while marking a remarkable personal milestone for the veteran batter.

CHENNAI: DMK MLA Ezhilan Naganathan said 85% of the party’s promises made in 2021 poll manifesto have been fulfilled by the govt that the manifesto to be released for upcoming election would reshape Tamil Nadu’s socio-economic landscape. He told reporter in the city on Friday that there were high expectations for DMK’s manifesto for the elections. He said the manifesto would fulfill expectations and would serve as a boost to the electoral prospects of the ruling party. He also took a dig at AIADMK’s poll manifesto, alleging that the opposition party had fulfilled less than 33% of the promises they had give during their regime. On a few allies expressing displeasure over allocation of seats and contesting under DMK’s symbol, Ezhilan said differences during seat-sharing talks were natural. “Discussions and differences of opinion during alliance negotiations are the nature of democracy,” he said, adding that success lies in listening to all partners and arriving at a consensus.Dismissing opposition campaign, he said, “Stories of double engine and triple engine will not work here. In Tamil Nadu, it has always been the Dravidian engine.” He reiterated that the election is for state rights and the self-respect of Tamils, and described it as a battle against communal and divisive forces.Citing welfare measures, including monthly assistance to about 1.31 crore women, Pongal cash support, and the ‘Vidiyal Payanam’ scheme, Ezhilan said DMK’s initiatives have strengthened livelihoods and will aid the bid to secure a massive victory in more than 200 constituencies.

Virat Kohli, Anushka Sharma share adorable flying kiss moment after RCB vs SRH clash

Royal Challenger Bengaluru (RCB) won the IPL 2026 opener in style against the Sunrisers Hyderabad. Virat Kohli again came under the spotlight as he took the team safely over the finish line. Kohli remained not out on the crease for 69 runs to confirm the victory for the team, which is playing as the defending champions for the first time in the history of the league.

After the match, Virat Kohli offered his wife Anuskha Sharma a flying kiss. While Kohli was celebrating the moment, Anuskha was clapping for his husband from the stands of the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. The adorable moment between Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma did not escape the ever-curious eyes of the cricket fans on social media platforms.

Watch the Adorable moment between Virat Kohli and Anushka Sharma here:

Quick-fire knocks from Padikkal and Patidar dismantled the SRH bowling attack

The match was truly entertaining for the fans as both of the power-palaced sides scored over 200 runs in their respective batting phases. Using Devdutt Padikkal as an impact batter was probably the master stroke of the match from the RCB team management. He came and simply took off the required run rate pressure from the team.

Padikkal, the batter who scored tons of runs in the recent past in domestic cricket, smashed 61 runs, facing only 26 balls. The number three batter of RCB’s line-up smashed a total of eleven boundaries, including seven 4s and four 6s, which took his strike rate to 234.62. The skipper, Rajat Patidar, under whose captaincy Royal Challengers Bengaluru lifted their maiden IPL trophy in the last season, scored 31 runs with a strike rate of 258.33.

Virat Kohli remained firm on the deck like an experienced navigator

Batters like Padikkal and Patidar got the free licence to go for every ball, because Virat Kohli was standing on one end of the crease, from the beginning. When SRH pacer Jaydev Unadkat took Phil Salt’s wicket early in the second innings, RCB was on only 9 runs. After that, when Padikkal took the burden on his shoulder, Kohli remained calm on the deck. Steadily, the Indian batting maestro increased his run rate, and when the match reached its final stage, Virat was 69 not out off 38 deliveries, strike rate 181.58. The innings was supported by five 4s and five 6s.

In the first innings of the match, when RCB was the fielding team, Virat dropped a catch of SRH batter Aniket Verma, who scored 43 off 18. The former skipper dropped a catch of Verma, which took everyone by surprise, as Kohli has one of the most safe pair of hands across the globe. The catch drop could prove costly, but the batting line-up of the IPL 2025 winning team was good enough to surpass every hurdle in the match. Jacob Duffy, the New Zealand international pacer, who made his IPL debut tonight for RCB, was named Man of the Match for the bowling figure of 3/22 (4).

Adani Defence delivers first batch of 2,000 LMGs to Army ahead of schedule

Adani Defence delivers first batch of 2,000 LMGs to Army ahead of schedule

NEW DELHI: To provide lethal punch to the Indian Army‘s firepower, Indian defence major Adani Defence & Aerospace on Saturday delivered the first batch of 2,000 ‘Prahar’ light machine guns (LMGs) manufactured under the ‘Make in India’ initiative. The delivery of the first batch of the 7.62 mm-calibre weapon, manufactured at the company’s small arms complex on the outskirts of Gwalior, was completed in seven months well ahead of the contracted schedule. The company spokesperson said the total order for the LMGs stands at around 40,000.The LMG weighs 8 kg and is 1,100 mm long and it has an effective range of 1,000 m, according to the company’s data. Prahar has a rate of fire of 600–750 rounds per minute.During the truck flagging-off ceremony, Ashish Rajvanshi, CEO of Adani Defence & Aerospace, told the media, “The journey that has begun today took us six years, starting from bid submission, and we have delivered the first batch, 11 months ahead of schedule. The original timeline which was given to us by the customer has been seven years plus, but I can assure you that in the next three years the full order will be delivered.”Each weapon has undergone lifecycle testing, ballistic assessment and environmental trials before deployment, ensuring adherence to the operational and reliability standards required by the Indian armed forces, a company statement said. The flagging-off ceremony on the premises of the Gwalior facility on Saturday was attended by A Anbarasu, DG acquisition, defence ministry. Anbarasu lauded the company for saving several months by delivering ahead of schedule, and said it shows there is the ability to “race and fire” against time in turning contracts into deliveries. He said the govt stands shoulder-to-shoulder with its defence industry partners, asserting that “scale” and “speed” are the twin pillars of defence acquisition that guide the entire procurement process. Anbarasu stressed that the govt and the private sector have to be together in the nation’s journey towards achieving Atmanirbharta in defence. The Indian Army uses LMGs, such as Prahar and Negev NG-7, to strengthen its firepower along the Line of Control (LoC) and the international border with Pakistan by providing high-volume, long-range fire (up to 1,000m) to secure bunkers, provide defensive fire and counter infiltration attempts.Designed for scale, the Gwalior facility has an annual production capacity of up to 1 lakh weapons, with more than 90% domestic sourcing. The facility is contributing to a broader industrial ecosystem in MP by generating skilled employment and supporting MSMEs across the supply chain. The Gwalior unit is also geared to manufacture close quarter battle (CQB) weapons for the armed forces, further expanding India’s indigenous small arms capability. The manufacturing capability is also supported by Adani Defence’s ammunition complex in Kanpur, commissioned in 2024.

‘Sharm nahi aati tumko’: Bengaluru professor who called student ‘terrorist’ 13 times suspended | Bengaluru News

'Sharm nahi aati tumko': Bengaluru professor who called student 'terrorist' 13 times suspended

BENGALURU: A video of a PES University faculty member insulting a student from a minority community has gone viral. The university suspended the professor, who later issued a written apology “for not upholding classroom decorum”. According to a social media post, the professor called the student “terrorist” 13 times in a fit of rage. “While the class is on, you come and disturb everyone. Sharm nahi aati tumko (aren’t you ashamed)? Useless fellow, terrorist. Yes, I’ll call you a ‘terrorist’,” the professor is heard shouting in the viral video clip. There is still no clarity on what triggered the act, and no police complaint has been filed by either the student concerned or the university. Police, though, have registered a suo motu criminal case against the professor. Muralidhar Deshpande, an adjunct faculty member with the Bengaluru-based private university, was teaching supply chain analytics to the BBA second year class on March 24 when the incident happened. While some university sources said he was annoyed after a student repeatedly sought permission to leave the classroom, others said he lost his temper over a noisy class. The student reported the incident to the department chairperson the same day, who visited the classroom and asked the professor what had happened. When the professor continued to behave inappropriately, the chairperson told him to leave midway through a lecture, sources said. As the video went viral, the university suspended him. Jawahar Doreswamy, chancellor, PES University, said the varsity authorities were still verifying the authenticity of the video. “This is unacceptable. The faculty holds a PhD. We don’t want to suppress anything. We will take necessary action,” the chancellor said. “All our lectures are recorded. We have asked our technical team to check authenticity of the video. We are trying to get to the truth. Meanwhile, we have kept the lecturer under suspension. Disciplinary committee will check evidence before initiating further action against him,” Doreswamy said. “All our faculty members are trained on how to deal with situations in classrooms. At times, there can be disciplinary issues and people can overreact. We are looking at our protocol on what briefings were given to adjunct faculty members,” he added. “I would like to clarify that the word used was not directed at any [specific] student, but I understand and acknowledge that it was inappropriate,” the lecturer said in his apology. Police told TOI they approached college authorities and students, asking them to file a complaint for them to initiate legal action against the lecturer. “The university management, though, told us to wait for a while,” a senior police officer said. Girinagar police have registered a suo motu criminal case against the professor under various provisions of BNS, including Section 299, which deals with deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious sentiments. A senior officer from Girinagar police station said a notice will soon be issued to the professor as part of investigation.
