‘I may call up the national guard’: Trump rants amid Iran tensions; blames Democrats for immigration, airport chaos

'I may call up the national guard': Trump rants amid Iran tensions; blames Democrats for immigration, airport chaos

US President Donald Trump on Wednesday accused Democrats of attempting to “create inner chaos” to distract from what he described as a “great military achievement” in Iran, while also escalating his rhetoric on immigration and signaling he may deploy the National Guard to address issues at airports. In a series of posts on Truth Social, Trump alleged that political opponents were undermining national interests and border enforcement efforts, even as he praised immigration authorities and hinted at stronger federal action.“The Radical Left, Country-Hating Democrats are trying to create inner chaos to take away from the great military achievement we are having in Iran. They hate seeing us WIN so completely and decisively, but the American public sees what is going on. AMERICA FIRST! President DJT,” Trump wrote. The remarks come amid heightened tensions in the Middle East and ongoing domestic debates over immigration policy and border security. Trump also claimed Democrats were obstructing legislative agreements unless provisions for amnesty and citizenship were included.“The Democrats don’t want to make any deal unless Amnesty and citizenship are given to millions of Criminals who have entered our Country illegally, many of whom have been convicted of serious crimes. PROTECT AMERICA! President DJT,” he said.Turning to domestic infrastructure concerns, Trump blamed Democrats for issues at U.S. airports, accusing them of prioritizing undocumented immigrants over American citizens. He suggested that federal intervention could be expanded if necessary.“Blame the Democrats for the Airport’s mess. They want our Country to do badly. They want our Country to fail. They broke the already signed Bill because they want to take care of Criminals who enter our Country illegally, rather than American citizens. Thank you to our great ICE Patriots for helping. It makes a big difference. I may call up the National Guard for more help. President DJT.”The posts reflect Trump’s continued focus on immigration enforcement, national security, and partisan criticism as key themes in his public messaging, while underscoring the sharp political divide over border policy and federal authority.

‘Cricket is my passion. No one can take this away from me’: Prithvi Shaw | Cricket News

'Cricket is my passion. No one can take this away from me': Prithvi Shaw

NEW DELHI: “I like to be in the present.” That sums up Prithvi Shaw’s outlook after a turbulent phase that saw him lose his IPL spot and his place in the Mumbai Ranji Trophy squad. Back after a mental reset, the Delhi Capitals batter is choosing clarity over noise.“Last year when I didn’t play IPL, I enjoyed my life a lot. I went to a couple of places to refresh my mind a little, and then I came back. The same routine, I practised, worked hard… whatever I used to do, I started doing it three times. And I think it was a good break for me. I can’t say that I took a step back,” Shaw told reporters ahead of Delhi Capitals’ intra-squad match at the Arun Jaitley Stadium on Wednesday.

For Shaw, the time away helped him reset mentally and reconnect with his personal life.“It was just a needed break, so that I can strengthen myself mentally. It was a good break and I enjoyed it a lot. I got a lot of family time, so I was happy with it.”Shaw, who has played 79 matches for Delhi Capitals since joining the franchise in 2018, found no takers in 2025. In IPL 2023 and 2024, his performances dipped as he failed to cross 200 runs in both seasons and was later dropped from the side. While admitting that the past few IPL seasons haven’t been ideal, he remains grounded about expectations. “In the last couple of years, IPL didn’t go very well for me. Not really bad, not really good. But obviously, people do expect a lot, especially when it comes to an opening batter.”For Shaw, the solution lies in going back to basics, with an emphasis on quality over quantity.“You have to give your 100% during practice… So, overall, it comes down to practice and hard work. And there should be quality practice… at some stage, you have to have quality practice.”Having been labelled a prodigy from a young age, Shaw addressed external expectations and admitted to making mistakes.“Sir, I didn’t write this. That I am this, I am that. I am a human being. I will make mistakes. And obviously, whatever is written outside, they know only half of it. My family knows me. I have kept as many friends in my life as my fingers, so they know me inside out. Whenever there were good things in social media or papers, or bad things, I was very young, obviously,” the DC batter said.“If you see social media every time, I come. If you see in the paper, I come. So, I stopped seeing those things. These were the things that kept me away from all this. And I had belief in myself because I know where I have come from and how hard I have worked. Humans make mistakes. You have also made mistakes in your life.”“I have also made mistakes. That’s it. It’s okay. Move ahead. That’s history. All that has happened. It’s been many years. I must have made some mistakes in my life. And I feel this is the time where I am very happy mentally. I love coming to the ground. This is my passion, and no one can take this away from me, no matter how much anyone writes about me,” he said.Shaw, who has played five Tests, six ODIs and one T20I, admitted that one of the toughest phases came when he was dropped from the Mumbai team, a decision he disagreed with. He was dropped from the Mumbai Ranji Trophy side last year due to poor fitness and lack of discipline. His fitness and discipline issues, however, have made more headlines than his performances in recent months, and Shaw also went unsold in the IPL 2025 mega auction.“The reason that was given to me was not valid according to me. So even at that time, I smiled and left. I said, it’s okay,” he recalled.“I didn’t talk to the selector. I didn’t talk to the president. I didn’t talk to anyone.”“Maharashtra was a little close to Mumbai, and I had friends over there, so I went there. And it was very good,” said Shaw.Shaw did reasonably well for Maharashtra. The right-handed batter scored 537 runs in seven matches, including a double hundred. In the Vijay Hazare Trophy, he managed 193 runs in six games, and in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy, he amassed 183 runs in seven outings, with a strike rate of 160.The numbers are not eye-catching, but he got the opportunity to play, which was important for him, and it has also changed his approach to life.“I feel we think a lot about the future… I like to be in the present,” he said.Shaw also spoke about keeping his support system limited.“For me, if someone has reached out to me through WhatsApp or call, even if someone hasn’t, it doesn’t matter if they want the best for me.”“I used to talk to my coach, Prashant Shetty, and my family was there with me in those times. And that’s it. I don’t talk to anyone else.”Shaw admitted that he still has the desire to play for India, and his ultimate ambition remains unchanged.“If I don’t think of a comeback, it will be wrong because I am playing for that. Obviously, who wouldn’t want to play for India?”“I used to keep targets, but when you can’t achieve them, you feel more pressure. So, I am a present person. I like to be here right now, talking to you guys.”Prithvi is likely to open with KL Rahul for the Delhi Capitals. The Axar Patel-led team will start their campaign against Lucknow Super Giants in Lucknow on April 1.

Despite the straight-set scoreline of 7-5, 7-6, the match was far from easy for Sinner. Michelsen pushed him hard, especially in the second set, where the American raced to a 5-2 lead. However, Sinner showed his class and composure, fighting back to force a tiebreak and eventually sealing the win with a powerful serve.“I feel like I served very well in important moments and that helped me out, especially in the tough moments,” Sinner said. “But today was not easy — I played a night match yesterday and today in the daytime, so the conditions were very different.”With this victory, Sinner remains on course for the “Sunshine Double,” having already won the Indian Wells title earlier.

Upsets and key results in Miami

In other matches, Frances Tiafoe advanced to the quarter-finals and will now face Sinner. One of the biggest surprises came from Spain’s young qualifier Martin Landaluce, who defeated Sebastian Korda in a thrilling three-set match.Landaluce, who had struggled for wins earlier this season, dedicated his victory to his late grandmother, saying, “She would have been 101 last week, and she passed away a few months ago. I wanted to give her the victory.”Elsewhere, Jiri Lehecka knocked out Taylor Fritz, while Tommy Paul, Arthur Fils, Francisco Cerundolo, and Alexander Zverev also progressed, setting up an exciting quarter-final lineup in Miami.

BJP opposes plan for town hall at Azad Maidan again | Mumbai News

Mumbai: The BJP in the BMC opposed the civic administration’s proposal to construct a town hall at the gymkhana grounds near Azad Maidan during the civic standing committee meeting held on Wednesday, and demanded that the site be used to build a new, larger civic hall to address space constraints faced by 232 corporators. This is for the fourth time that the party has opposed the plan. The proposal, prepared by the civic body, was repeatedly placed before the standing committee for approval, but each time was kept on hold. At Wednesday’s meeting, the proposal was sent back to the administration. The plan envisioned a govt-backed town hall, described as a formal civic auditorium designed to host public dialogue. The project was also conceived as a tourist attraction, featuring a glass dome and a viewing gallery offering panoramic views of the surrounding heritage precinct. A rooftop cafeteria was part of the proposal. To remain in harmony with the heritage character of the area, the structure’s height was planned to be proportionate, ensuring it does not obstruct the visibility or aesthetics of nearby historic landmarks. Therefore, a ground-plus-four-storey building that would house the Town Hall, along with restaurants, and would be accessible to the general public.During discussions, BJP leader in the BMC Ganesh Khankar objected to the plan, arguing that the prime location opposite the BMC headquarters should be reserved for a full-fledged municipal hall. Khankar said the current civic house was inadequate, forcing corporators to function in cramped conditions, with limited seating for even civic officials and journalists attending.“The administration should withdraw this proposal and prioritise a new civic house instead. I’m not saying that a town hall plan should be scrapped, but the administration should try to see how to accommodate both,” he said, adding that this proposal shouldn’t be brought before the committee again unless changes as suggested are made in the plans.Standing committee chairman Prabhakar Shinde of the BJP also said that the administration was bound to make a plan that benefits everyone. With the proposal referred back, officials said they would need to appoint a consultant to suggest how the changes could be accommodated. “A corporation hall needs to be made in a manner that the seating is circular so that everyone can see the presiding officer speaking,” said an official.

Wasim Jaffer outlines his Mumbai Indians playing XII prediction for IPL 2026

As the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 approaches, all eyes are on the Wankhede Stadium. Following a triumphant T20 World Cup 2026 campaign where India clinched the title, the domestic spotlight shifts to the five-time champions, Mumbai Indians (MI). Amidst the tactical buzz, former India opener and domestic legend Wasim Jaffer has shared his specialized Playing XII prediction, offering a fascinating blueprint for Hardik Pandya’s men.

Wasim Jaffer names his ideal Mumbai Indians lineup for IPL 2026

The most striking aspect of Jaffer’s prediction is the structural overhaul of the top order. While Rohit Sharma remains the undisputed cornerstone, Jaffer suggests a spoilt for choice scenario for the opening partner, pitting the explosive Ryan Rickelton against the returning club legend Quinton de Kock. De Kock, reacquired in the 2026 auction for a bargain price of 1 Crore, brings a nostalgic yet potent left-right combination back to the MI fold.

However, the real talking point lies in the middle order. Jaffer has slotted Suryakumar Yadav at his preferred No. 3, but has made a decisive call to promote skipper Hardik Pandya to No. 4. While Pandya featured at this spot only once in the 2025 season, Jaffer points to his successful stint with Gujarat Titans, where he amassed his highest run-tally at this position.

Surprisingly, Jaffer’s combination excludes England’s in-form sensation Will Jacks. Instead, he opts for a more balanced overseas quartet featuring Sherfane Rutherford, Mitchell Santner, and Trent Boult, alongside one of the wicket-keeper openers. This lineup emphasizes depth and versatility, especially with Santner providing a much-needed left-arm spin option on the Wankhede tracks.

Hardik Pandya’s vision for MI in IPL 2026

The upcoming season is more than just a quest for a trophy for Pandya; it’s a mission for redemption and building a legacy. After a rollercoaster 2024 and 2025, MI enters the 2026 campaign with a renewed sense of purpose. Speaking ahead of the season opener, Pandya highlighted his desire to return to the MI Way, a culture of backing players and relentless hard work.

The ultimate dream is to win the IPL for the sixth time. I want us to represent the best cricket Mumbai Indians have ever played,” Pandya stated via Cricbuzz.

The franchise has been inconsistent since their 2020 title, but the addition of experienced campaigners like Deepak Chahar and the retention of the Jasprit Bumrah- Boult pace duo makes them formidable. With young talents like Tilak Varma and Naman Dhir rounding out the XI, the balance looks primed for high-octane T20 cricket.

Mumbai Indians will kick off their IPL 2026 journey on Sunday, March 29, in a high-stakes encounter against the Ajinkya Rahane-led Kolkata Knight Riders at the Wankhede Stadium.

Jaffer’s predicted MI XII for IPL 2026:

Rohit Sharma, Ryan Rickelton/Quinton de Kock, Suryakumar Yadav, Hardik Pandya, Tilak Varma, Sherfane Rutherford, Naman Dhir, Mitchell Santner, Deepak Chahar, Mayank Markande, Jasprit Bumrah, Trent Boult.

West Bengal polls: RG Kar victim’s mother Ratna Debnath gets BJP ticket from Panihati | India News

West Bengal polls: RG Kar victim’s mother Ratna Debnath gets BJP ticket from Panihati

NEW DELHI: The BJP on Wednesday named Ratna Debnath, mother of the RG Kar Medical College rape and murder victim, as its candidate from Panihati in its third list of nominees for the upcoming West Bengal Assembly elections, formally bringing the bereaved mother into the electoral fray.In a press release, the party said its Central Election Committee had approved a third list of 19 candidates for the Assembly polls, with Ratna Debnath fielded from Assembly constituency number 111, Panihati. Her candidature had been widely speculated in recent days after she publicly expressed willingness to contest on a BJP ticket. As per the BJP’s official list released on Wednesday, that possibility has now been formalised.

Move follows her public call to enter politics

Earlier, Ratna Debnath had said she wanted to contest the election to “secure justice” for her daughter and fight for women’s safety in West Bengal.“A long time has passed since the brutal killing of my daughter. Despite prolonged movements and struggle, we are yet to get justice. I have decided to contest the election on a BJP ticket to secure justice for her,” she had said the previous week. Her husband had also indicated that preliminary talks had taken place with BJP leaders over her possible candidature and said she was prepared to enter politics directly over the justice issue.

Political and protest backlash had followed

Ratna Debnath’s demand had triggered sharp reactions from some faces associated with the ‘Reclaim the Night’ protest movement that had emerged after the RG Kar case, with several activists and public figures calling the decision “unfortunate” and expressing concern over the political turn,Some protest voices said they understood the family’s frustration over delayed justice but questioned the decision to join electoral politics. Others said the prolonged wait for accountability may have pushed the family towards a more direct political route. The BJP’s official announcement on Wednesday, however, confirms that the party has gone ahead with her candidature from Panihati.

BJP’s third list features 19 names

Apart from Ratna Debnath in Panihati, the BJP’s third list includes candidates for constituencies such as Coochbehar Dakshin, Raiganj (SC), Islampur, Hemtabad (SC), English Bazar, Santipur, Howrah Madhya, Uttarpara, Singur, Chandannagar, Chunchura, Haripal, Tamluk, Medinipur, Purbasthali Dakshin, Katwa, Saithia (SC) and Nalhati, as per the party’s release.Ratna Debnath’s candidature is likely to draw significant political attention in the coming days, given the emotional weight of the RG Kar case and the wider debate it had sparked around women’s safety and justice in West Bengal.

India not a 'dalaal' nation like Pakistan: S Jaishankar at all-party meet amid Iran mediation buzz

NEW DELHI: External affairs minister S Jaishankar on Tuesday told leaders at the all-party meeting that India does not see itself as a “dalaal” (broker) like Pakistan, amid growing reports of mediation efforts in the ongoing Iran conflict, news agency PTI reported quoting sources. The remarks came as multiple countries, including Pakistan, Turkey have stepped up efforts to act as intermediaries between Washington and Tehran to de-escalate tensions in the Middle East.

Oil, War, And A Phone Call: PM Modi Draws India’s Red Line At Strait Of Hormuz In Talks With Trump

There is nothing new in Pakistan’s mediation efforts in the matter as that country has been “used” by the US since 1981, PTI sources quoted S Jaishankar as saying. “We are not a dalaal nation,” Jaishankar is said to have told the attendees of the meeting convened at the Parliament complex to discuss the Middle East crisis.Prime Minister Narendra Modi conveyed to US President Donald Trump that the war in West Asia must end soon as it is affecting all sides, the government told Opposition leaders during the meeting, reiterating its position on de-escalation.Responding to Opposition criticism, the government rejected the charge that New Delhi was silent on the crisis, asserting that “we are commenting and responding”. It also pointed to diplomatic outreach, noting that when the Iran embassy was opened, the Foreign Secretary visited promptly and signed the condolence book, countering allegations of delayed response.PTI sources said the government underlined that its primary focus remains the safety of the Indian diaspora in the Gulf region and ensuring domestic energy security. It added that both objectives have been managed effectively so far despite the evolving situation. However, the Opposition described the government’s responses as “unsatisfactory” and pressed for a detailed discussion in Parliament. Congress leader Tariq Anwar criticised the government, saying Pakistan is taking on a mediator’s role while “we are still mute spectators”. He demanded debates in the Lok Sabha under Rule 193 and in the Rajya Sabha under Rule 176.The meeting was attended by key members of the Cabinet Committee on Security, including Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, external affairs minister S Jaishankar and Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. Health Minister JP Nadda and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju were also present, while Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri gave a presentation.Among Opposition leaders present were Tariq Anwar and Mukul Wasnik of the Congress, Dharmendra Yadav of the Samajwadi Party and Sasmit Patra of the BJD.
