The former cricketer admitted that he has consistently tipped Jaiswal in previous seasons, but believes this could finally be the year the youngster delivers a truly monumental performance.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Chopra said he expects Jaiswal to push the boundaries and potentially produce a season in the range of 700 to 900 runs—something only a handful of batters have achieved in IPL history. His confidence stems not just from Jaiswal’s talent, but also from his aggressive intent at the top of the order.

“Can this be Yashasvi Jaiswal’s year? I say before every IPL whether it could be his year? Can it be a 700-900-run reason for this guy? I will say once again whether it can be his. I will once again focus on Yashasvi Jaiswal because I like him a lot,” said Chopra.

Jaiswal had an impressive IPL 2025 campaign, finishing as the seventh-highest run-scorer. He accumulated 559 runs in 14 innings at a striking rate of 159.71, showcasing both consistency and attacking flair. Despite not clinching the Orange Cap last season, his performances reinforced his status as one of the most dangerous young batters in the league.

Star pacer tipped for Purple Cap glory

On the bowling front, Chopra has identified Mumbai Indians spearhead Jasprit Bumrah as his pick for the Purple Cap in IPL 2026. However, he attached a crucial condition—Bumrah must remain fit and available for the entire season.

Chopra acknowledged that Bumrah’s workload management often limits his participation across all matches, but insisted that if the pacer plays a full season, he could outclass the competition.

“Who can be the highest wicket-taker? That’s an interesting one. Jasprit Bumrah doesn’t play all the matches. If he plays all the matches, he could be the one. If Bumrah plays all matches, let’s make it Bumrah,” added Chopra.

Bumrah had a solid IPL 2025 season, claiming 18 wickets in just 12 innings at an impressive economy rate of 6.67. Despite missing a few games, he still finished as the seventh-highest wicket-taker, underlining his efficiency and impact.

While discussing other contenders, Chopra mentioned several top Indian pacers including Mohammed Shami, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Siraj, and Prasidh Krishna. He also briefly considered overseas options like Mitchell Starc. However, he ultimately circled back to Bumrah as his top choice, citing his unmatched ability to deliver in high-pressure situations.

“I am thinking about Mohammad Shami, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, and Mitchell Starc among the overseas. Who can it be? Josh Hazlewood isn’t going to play all the games. Let’s go with Bumrah,” Chopra added further.

De Villiers admitted that their inability to detach from the result often worked against them, leading to a mental exhaustion that made every loss feel like a personal failure.“Both of us were probably naughty of wanting it too much, as maybe our biggest downfall of our careers is wanting the team to win too much, and it sort of affected us so much that we would take it personally when we lose,” he confessed.Last season, Kohli finally won the elusive IPL title. “So that’s maybe… well, at least he got some trophies. The rupee plunged by 82 paise, or nearly 1 per cent, to settle at an all-time low of 93.71 (provisional) against the US dollar on Friday, weighed down by persistent foreign fund outflows and a sharp rise in global crude oil prices amid mounting geopolitical tensions, PTI reported.Forex traders said the domestic currency remained under intense pressure as elevated energy prices and a shift towards risk aversion dented investor sentiment. Heightened geopolitical uncertainty has also fuelled concerns that higher oil costs could widen India’s trade deficit and push up inflation.At the interbank foreign exchange market, the local unit opened at 92.92 against the greenback and soon breached the 93-mark for the first time. It continued to weaken during the session before settling at 93.71 (provisional), down 82 paise from the previous close.On Wednesday, the rupee had slumped 49 paise to end at its earlier record low of 92.89 against the US dollar. Forex markets remained closed on Thursday on account of Gudhi Padwa.“The rupee hit fresh all-time lows on Friday amid geopolitical tensions in West Asia and FII outflows. Rising global crude oil prices, too, have pressured the rupee,” said Anuj Choudhary, Research Analyst, Commodities Research, Mirae Asset Sharekhan.He noted that major central banks, including the US Federal Reserve, European Central Bank, Bank of England and Bank of Japan, have left interest rates unchanged in their recent monetary policy meetings, citing inflation concerns while reiterating their readiness to adjust policy as required.“We expect the rupee to trade with a negative bias as escalating geopolitical tensions and rising crude oil prices may continue to pressure the rupee,” Choudhary said, adding that the USD-INR spot rate is likely to move in the range of Rs 93.20–93.80.Meanwhile, the dollar index, which measures the greenback’s strength against a basket of six currencies, was trading 0.35 per cent higher at 99.58. Brent crude, the global oil benchmark, rose 1.84 per cent to USD 110.7 per barrel in futures trade.On the domestic equity market front, benchmark indices recovered from the previous session’s losses. The BSE Sensex was trading 325.72 points, or 0.44 per cent, higher at 74,532.96, while the NSE Nifty gained 112.35 points, or 0.49 per cent, to 23,114.50.According to exchange data, foreign institutional investors (FIIs) sold equities worth Rs 7,558.19 crore on a net basis on Thursday, adding to pressure on the local currency.

Addressing the Inter-Ministerial Briefing, Additional Secretary (Gulf) in the MEA, Aseem R Mahajan, said Indian missions in multiple countries worked closely with authorities to locate the missing person and facilitate the return of the deceased to India.“Six Indian nationals have unfortunately lost their lives, and one is missing in various incidents. Our missions in Saudi Arabia, Oman, Iraq and UAE are in regular touch with the concerned authorities regarding the missing Indian national and for the early repatriation of mortal remains of the deceased Indian nationals to India,” Mahajan said.The travel situation from the Gulf region was gradually improving, with a significant number of passengers already returning to India, an MEA official said.“Situation continues to improve with additional flights operating from the region. Since February 28, around 300,000 passengers have returned from the region to India,” the MEA official said .According to the MEA, airlines from the United Arab Emirates were continuing to operate limited non-scheduled flights depending on operational and safety considerations.“From the UAE, airlines continue to operate limited non-scheduled flights based on operational and safety considerations. Today, again, around 90 flights are expected to operate from various airports in the UAE to India,” he added.

“If MS Dhoni says that he is playing and will play regularly, then that’s one thing. You see, there comes a time when even the greatest player in the world has to leave. Will he play every game or not? Will Mahendra Singh Dhoni play all the games or not? This is something I have believed and talked about for many years. If Dhoni plays, for at least the last two years, it’s true that even two overs are enough to please Chennai fans, but it doesn’t really benefit the Chennai team. If Dhoni wants to play, he should play at least four over,” Pathan noted on his YouTube channel.

He emphasized that if the veteran wicket-keeper does take the field, he must commit to batting at least four overs to justify his spot in the modern T20 ecosystem.

MUMBAI: A self-proclaimed spiritual leader’s arrest in Maharashtra in a sexual assault case and videos of him assaulting women has led to the Opposition dubbing the incident as Maharashtra’s ‘Epstein files’. Ashok Kharat’s arrest from Nashik in a rape case has led to the Opposition slamming the state government due to his alleged links to senior politicians of ruling alliance. Like the Epstein files, there are allegedly 58 videos of assault recorded by Kharat, as per the Opposition.UBT Sena MP Sanjay Raut said: “All this is like Jeffrey Epstein files. In fact, it is more horrifying than that. I have got a few videos. I believe there are some people from BJP and the ruling alliance. If the police has extracted 56 such clips from his phone, then the Maharashtra government will fall.”While it is unclear as to how many videos or how many more women Kharat had abused, there is at least one video that has gone viral where Kharat is seen abusing a woman in his office after conducting a fake ritual. One of Kharat’s office employees is facing a case in Shirdi for threatening a woman by leaking her obscene photos and clips. Kharat is accused of luring unsuspecting women with intoxicants and then abusing them and filming them.Raut trained his guns on the chairperson of the Maharashtra State Commission for Women, Rupali Chakankar, for being associated with Kharat. “What is the job of the chairperson of the Women’s Commission? She is supposed to get justice for women who are facing injustice. But here, she is seen washing feet of a man accused of rape. Ministers are being seen with this man.”Kharat was photographed with deputy CM Eknath Shinde in 2022 when the latter visited the Shri Shivnika Sansthan Temple which Kharat is associated with. The real heat is being faced by NCP leader Rupali Chakankar, a trustee of the temple trust along with Kharat and there are photos and videos of Chakankar with Kharat in public. In one photo, Chakankar is holding an umbrella for Kharat and in another she is seen washing Kharat’s feet.In the wee hours of Wednesday, Kharat was arrested after a 35-year-old woman complained to the police that Kharat had sexually abused her for three years from 2022 to 2025 under the guise of resolving her personal problems.Chakankar has claimed that she was not aware of Kharat’s activities and that the law should take its own course. Rupali Thombre Patil, a NCP leader and at loggerheads with Chakankar, has sought her resignation.Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis has constituted an SIT to probe the case. Kharat has been remanded to police custody till March 24.

NEW DELHI: The central government on Friday informed the Supreme Court that it has constituted a three-member expert committee to rewrite the chapter on the judiciary in the NCERT Class 8 textbook, following a row over a section referring to “corruption in the judiciary.”The committee comprises former Attorney General K. K. Venugopal, former Supreme Court judge Indu Malhotra, and Justice Aniruddha Bose.After the government assured the Court about the formation of the committee, the Supreme Court closed its suo motu proceedings in the matter. The Court had earlier stayed the sale of the book and sought responses from the authorities.NCERT had earlier acknowledged the error and withdrawn the chapter. On February 25, it pulled the new Class 8 Social Science textbook from sale.The issue was raised before the CJI-led bench by senior lawyers Kapil Sibal and Abhishek Manu Singhvi. They argued that students were being taught about corruption in the judiciary as if it existed in no other institution.“They have left out bureaucracy, politics, etc. Not a word on other sectors. They are teaching as if it only exists in this institution,” the senior lawyers said.CJI Surya Kant said that no one would be allowed to “defame” the institution of judiciary and initiated suo motu proceedings over the inclusion of the section in the textbook.The inclusion of the section marked a notable shift from previous editions, which had largely focused on the structure and role of courts. The revised chapter, titled “The Role of the Judiciary in Our Society,” went beyond explaining court hierarchy and access to justice, and addressed challenges faced by the judicial system, including corruption and case backlogs.
