KKR eligible for refund? Former opener questions Cameron Green’s role after bowling snub in IPL 2026 clash against MI

Kolkata Knight Riders’ high-profile signing of Cameron Green for a record ₹25.20 crore has quickly become a talking point in IPL 2026, but not for the reasons the franchise would have hoped. The Australian all-rounder, acquired for his dual skill set, did not bowl in KKR’s opening game against Mumbai Indians, raising eyebrows among fans and experts alike.

On the field, Green had a modest start to his KKR career, scoring a quick 18 off 10 balls on debut. However, his contribution wasn’t enough to prevent KKR from suffering a defeat after failing to defend a daunting total of 220 at the Wankhede Stadium.

While he did not bowl, Green looked sharp in the field, displaying good athleticism and a strong arm from the deep, indicating that his overall fitness may not be a major concern.

Former opener questions Cameron Green’s antics of not bowling in the IPL 2026 match against MI

Former India cricketer Aakash Chopra did not hold back in expressing his concerns over Green’s limited role. Taking to social media, Chopra pointed out the imbalance between what KKR paid and what they received on the field.

He argued that if a franchise spends heavily on an all-rounder but ends up using him only as a batter, it raises valid concerns about value for money. Chopra even went on to suggest that teams should be entitled to some form of “refund” if a player is unable to deliver the complete package they were bought for.

“If you pay for an all-rounder and get a batsman in return… you should be, at the very least, eligible for a refund,” Chopra said in a video shared on X.

Captain Ajinkya Rahane deflects responsibility

KKR skipper Ajinkya Rahane faced the inevitable question after the team’s defeat but chose to distance himself from the situation. When asked why Green wasn’t handed the ball, Rahane stated that such queries should be directed towards Cricket Australia rather than the team management. His response hinted that the decision may not have been entirely in KKR’s control, fueling speculation about underlying fitness concerns.

Putting an end to the uncertainty, Cricket Australia confirmed that Green is currently managing a lower back injury. According to an official statement, the all-rounder has been advised to temporarily refrain from bowling as part of his recovery process. The board further revealed that Green is gradually rebuilding his bowling workload and is expected to return to full all-round duties within 10 to 12 days. Importantly, KKR management had been informed about this development beforehand, suggesting there was no miscommunication between the franchise and the player’s national board.

Interestingly, Green had initially registered for the IPL 2026 auction as a specialist batter. This created confusion around his availability as an all-rounder. The Australian later clarified that it was an error made by his management and reassured teams that he would be fit to bowl.

Switch to PNG if available, else may lose LPG connection within 3 months, warns Maharashtra minister Chhagan Bhujbal | Mumbai News

Mumbai: In cities and municipalities where piped natural gas (PNG) is being provided, those who do not apply for it could lose their LPG connections within three months, food and civil supplies minister Chhagan Bhujbal warned on Monday. “We have found that in areas where PNG is available, some people have not opted for it,” said Bhujbal. In cities and municipalities where PNG is available or the lines are being laid, people must apply for the facility, he emphasised. “If they apply but the work is not complete, they will continue to receive LPG supply. But if they do not apply at all, they stand to lose their LPG connections in three months,” Bhujbal said.He emphasised that this did not apply to rural Maharashtra or to any areas where PNG facilities are not available. “I am speaking only about cities and municipalities where it is available already or the process has begun,” said Bhujbal. He said that the Government of India has sufficient stock of cylinders and citizens should not hoard cylinders. “People are creating an artificial shortage by hoarding cylinders. They should stop this,” he said. Around 27 people had been arrested for black-marketing in cylinders, he added.Bhujbal also said that the public would be allowed to lift three months of ration at a time. “We have enough stock to allow for three months of ration to be lifted at one time,” he added.

‘Pink looks good on me’: Ravindra Jadeja shines on return to Rajasthan Royals | Cricket News

'Pink looks good on me': Ravindra Jadeja shines on return to Rajasthan Royals
Rajasthan Royals’ Ravindra Jadeja (ANI Photo)

Ravindra Jadeja made a memorable return to Rajasthan Royals after 17 years, marking his comeback in striking fashion with a double-wicket spell against Chennai Super Kings at the ACA Stadium on Monday. Sporting the Royals’ pink jersey, the veteran left-arm spinner impressed with figures of 2/18, using clever variations and subtle changes of pace to complement an early onslaught from Jofra Archer and Nandre Burger. “I think pink looks good on me, I guess. I’ve known Shivam Dube for a long time—I’ve bowled to him in the nets, so I understand how he approaches spinners. I was prepared for that and tried to bowl outside off, because I knew he would look to play big shots against me,” Jadeja said during the mid-innings broadcast chat. His dismissals of Sarfaraz Khan and Shivam Dube proved pivotal as RR bowled out five-time champions CSK for a meagre 127. Social media buzzed after Jadeja’s fiery delivery to Dube, which showcased his return in style. Reflecting on the pitch, Jadeja added, “I felt the wicket was a bit sticky and the ball was turning, so I really enjoyed bowling—my job was just to hit the right areas and let the pitch do the rest.”On the chase, Jadeja reminded the young Royals side of the need for focus, saying, “You can’t take anything for granted in cricket; no matter the target, you have to work hard, play your shots, and give your 100 percent.” With RR’s bowling and batting firing, CSK were left scrambling, with only Jamie Overton (43 off 36) offering a minor resistance. Archer, Burger, and Jadeja shared the spoils, all claiming crucial wickets in a clinical team performance. The bowlers’ efforts laid the platform for an explosive batting display from 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who blazed his way to a 15-ball half-century, effectively ending the contest. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Riyan Parag finished the chase in just 12.1 overs, giving RR a dominant eight-wicket victory.

Bombay high court declines plea to add PNB as accused in fraud case | Mumbai News

Mumbai: The Bombay high court declined a plea by an accused that sought to make Punjab National Bank (PNB) an additional accused in the case where Gitanjali group allegedly defrauded the bank. The HC said, “Admittedly, fraud is committed with PNB by the officials of PNB and Gitanjali Group of Companies... in fact, PNB is a victim, so PNB cannot be added as an accused.”Justice Shivkumar Dige, sitting singly, also imposed Rs 10,000 as costs on Nitin Shahi, accused number eight, who filed the petition in 2020, which it dismissed. The HC order was out on Monday. The CBI, through special public prosecutor, informed the HC on March 18 that the bank, PNB, suffered over Rs 7,000 crore worth of loss in the case of Gitanjali Gems and group companies alone and hence the company and bank cannot be measured by the same yardstick.A special CBI trial court in 2020 rejected Shahi’s plea to add PNB as an additional accused. His lawyer Vritee Soni argued that the chargesheet alleged a conspiracy was hatched by bank officials in connivance with staff of Gitanjali group and hence the bank too ought to be made an accused and cannot shift blame only to its employees. The petitioner’s case was that Gitanjali Gems Ltd is an accused and all its Key Managerial Persons (KMPs) are accused, but PNB is not arrayed as an accused when its officials are for allegedly not informing the bank about fraudulent Letters of Undertaking (LOUs) and Letters of Credit (LCs).Munde said, “PNB’s senior and junior employees have been chargesheeted because they had conspired and cheated PNB,” and the senior management of the company too are facing trial. The CBI on Feb 15, 2018, registered the crime on a complaint from Avneesh Nepalia, Dy General Manager, PNB in Mumbai, against Gokulnath Shetty, Dy Manager, PNB, and 15 other accused, for cheating, criminal conspiracy, and under the Prevention of Corruption Act case for allegedly defrauding PNB of over Rs 750 million USD or nearly Rs 5,000 crore and later filed additional complaints of frauds worth an additional Rs 1,250 crore and around Rs 950 crore between 2013 and 2017. The trial is pending in the case.

No tax hike or new projects in 6,704cr Navi Mum civic budget | Mumbai News

Navi Mumbai: Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) standing committee chairman Ashok Patil presented a Rs 6,704-crore budget for 2026-27 to mayor Sujata Patil at a specially convened general body meeting on Monday. The budget prioritised completion of ongoing works and strengthening basic amenities, infrastructure, healthcare, education, water supply and sanitation, while proposing no hike in property or water taxes for another year.NMMC expects revenue of Rs 6,704 crore and plans spending of Rs 6,689 crore, leaving a surplus of Rs 15 crore. Some residents claimed the estimates were inflated and less realistic than in earlier years. No new projects were set aside this year, as the administration aims to complete long-pending works. A major project included was the Palm Beach elevated road extension connecting Ghansoli and Airoli, which finally began after years of delay following HC’s environmental clearance. To bolster healthcare, the budget proposed a nursing college and a dedicated burns unit at National Burns Centre in Airoli. For children with special needs, an Airoli sub-centre of Vashi’s Education Training Centre was planned to decentralise services.Environmental measures received little emphasis, with no clear allocation. Nature advocates said the budget failed to address debris dumping, mangrove destruction, tree cutting, rising pollution and mitigation steps. “This budget serves politicians more than taxpayers. Wetlands are being destroyed and the city’s landscape is vanishing year after year. Yet, the administration seems unconcerned,” said environmentalist Sameer Tupe. The civic encroachment department plans to spend Rs 12 crore to remove illegal structures amid growing encroachments, while expecting minimal revenue from penalties and fines, implying a financial loss for NMMC.This was NMMC’s first budget presentation by an elected body after six years of administrative rule. Conventionally, the commissioner presents the budget to the standing committee chairperson in the presence of the media and the elected House. But this time, the standing committee drafted the budget and presented it directly to the general body. Media representatives objected to not receiving the budget booklet. Opposition Shiv Sena corporators were silent during the presentation.Forest minister and Airoli MLA Ganesh Naik said the budget reflects key priorities to meet public expectations.

Police Used AI Facial Recognition: Tennessee woman who spent months in jail after police used AI facial recognition to link her to crimes in Dakota, says she has never been to the State |

AI-generated image for representation purpose

A Tennessee woman spent months in jail after police used an AI facial recognition tool to link her to crimes in another state. According to a CNN report, the woman, identified as 50-year-old Angela Lipps, said she had never been to North Dakota, the state where the alleged crimes took place. As per the report, authorities in Fargo, North Dakota, have admitted there were mistakes in the case and said they are reviewing their procedures, though they have not issued a formal apology. The case highlights concerns about the use of facial recognition tech in investigations.

What exactly happened

According to the Fargo Police Department, Lipps was arrested in Tennessee on July 14 after a warrant had been issued in North Dakota weeks earlier. The warrant was related to multiple bank fraud incidents reported in and around Fargo. Police said the arrest was based on a facial recognition match, which later appeared to be incorrect. In their search for a suspect in the bank fraud cases, investigators used “our partner agency’s facial recognition technology” as well as “additional investigative steps independent of AI to assist in identification” before submitting the report to the Cass County State Attorney’s Office, Fargo Police Department Chief Dave Zibolski, CNN reports.Notably, Lipps was taken into custody by the police despite being more than 1,000 miles away from the location of the alleged crimes.Fargo police department told CNN that they use Clearview AI, a startup with a database of billions of photos scraped from the internet. Clearview “identified a potential suspect with similar features to Angela Lipps” and West Fargo police shared that report with Fargo police, reads a statement from the police department.

Police admit errors, review process

Fargo police said there were “a few errors” in how the case was handled. In a press conference, Fargo Police Department Chief Dave Zibolski said his police department’s reliance on some of the information from a neighboring agency’s AI system is “part of the issue”. “At some point, our partner agency over at West Fargo purchased their own AI facial recognition system that we were not aware of at the executive level …, and we would not have allowed that to be used, and it has since been prohibited,” he said.
