“Yes, RCB’s identity is still built around him.” – Anil Kumble

Former RCB skipper Anil Kumble, who has led the Challengers formerly in the IPL, went on to reflect on Virat Kohli’s deep-rooted bond with the franchise he has been playing for for around 18 years. He also pointed out the loyalty of the fans in Bengaluru.

“Yes, RCB’s identity is still built around him. If you look back at RCB over the last 10-12 years, it has always been about someone like Virat Kohli. Once he took over the captaincy in 2013, it has been about his presence with the franchise,” he said.

“Of course, AB de Villiers and Chris Gayle received a similar kind of support. I was fascinated when AB walked in to play his 100th Test match at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium; you could see the kind of reception he received even while representing South Africa.

Anil Kumble hints at Virat Kohli’s ABD-like transformation in IPL 2026

“That shows the kind of love people of Bengaluru have for RCB and for Virat. Like we speak about MS (Dhoni) and CSK, Virat and RCB will always be synonymous, and I don’t think that will change. That legacy will remain,” Kumble said on Star Sports’ IPL Today Live.

The legendary Indian spinner spoke about the mentality of legendary cricketers, and he stressed that they always tend to evolve and do more for their betterment. He hinted that Kohli could manifest new strokes this season

Virat Kohli eyes massive IPL milestone in 2026

As one of the league’s biggest draws, his comeback in the IPL always adds up to some immense buzz. Virat managed to score 8661 runs in 267 IPL matches and is the highest run-scorer in the history of the competition.

He is on the brink of being the first ever cricketer to have scored 9000 runs in the history of the IPL. He could be the first-ever player in the history of any franchise tournament to amass 9000 runs in a single tournament.

Also, the veteran cricketer has 13543 runs and could be the fifth cricketer to have amassed 14000+ runs in T20 cricket after the end of this year’s IPL. Kohli has been consistently scoring over 500+ runs, and this would be his set target in the upcoming season as well.

IPL 2026 should be audition for the next India T20I captain

“Virat definitely is still the heartbeat of the franchise. Not only through his performances and the consistency he has achieved with the bat over the years, but also through his presence and the energy he brings to the squad. The way he conducts himself on and off the field, always fighting for the team, stands out. He brings that energy and makes the youngsters believe that they can ultimately go on and win the trophy, which RCB did last year,” de Villiers told JioHotstar, as cited by news agency IANS.De Villiers said the difference last season was the contribution from multiple players instead of relying on a few.“What I liked about last season, yes, he was one of the main run-scorers in the team, as openers usually are, but there were other players who stepped in. In the past, RCB were often guilty of relying on just two, three, or four players performing consistently. This time, I felt the entire team chipped in,” he added.Referring to the IPL 2025 final, where RCB won their first title, he pointed to the role played by others in the batting line-up.“The final is a great example, with Virat scoring 43 runs off 35 balls. But it was actually Patidar, Livingstone, Jitesh Sharma, and Romario Shepherd who scored at a high strike rate and helped the team post 190-plus, ultimately winning the game. Krunal Pandya also chipped in with the ball.”He said the team now has better support around Kohli.“That’s my point, players contributing like that throughout the season, and the bowling attack stepping up. Virat can feel that; he can sense that he is not the only one carrying the load anymore. He has a squad of fighters around him, all gunning to win the trophy. I think they are in a really good place. It’s a similar squad, they didn’t have to change much, and they have good reason to believe they can go all the way again this coming season,” he said.

The menu is out, and Rory McIlroy has made it personal. Just days before The Masters begins, the world No. 2 has shared what he will serve at the famous Champions Dinner. And it is not just about food. It tells a story about his life, his childhood, and his journey to finally winning the green jacket. The dinner will take place on April 7 at Augusta National Golf Club. It happens two days before the tournament starts. Only past champions attend, along with Augusta National chairman Fred Ridley. As last year’s winner, McIlroy gets to choose the full menu. His choices quickly caught attention. From elk sliders to Irish comfort food, the menu mixes luxury with simple memories. Some dishes are inspired by top restaurants, while others come straight from his childhood. It is a mix that feels both new and deeply personal. And as fans looked closer, one thing became clear. Every item on the menu has a reason behind it.

Rory McIlroy’s Masters dinner menu features elk sliders and tribute to his mother and childhood

Rory McIlroy did not just pick random dishes. He built this menu step by step, using parts of his life as inspiration. For starters, he chose yellowfin tuna carpaccio, inspired by Le Bernardin, a well-known restaurant he likes. But then, he added something unusual. Elk sliders are part of the appetisers. He explained why, saying, “In the build up to the Masters last year, I was eating a lot of elk. I got this big shipment of elk, and I was eating a lot of that.Still, he knew not everyone might like it as a main dish. So he added, “[But] I didn’t want elk to be the main course, because I didn’t know if everyone would like that, so I incorporated it into the appetisers.” Along with that, guests will also get rock shrimp tempura, peach and ricotta flatbread, and bacon-wrapped dates. That last dish is very special. It comes from his mother’s recipe, making it an emotional part of the menu. For the main course, McIlroy has kept things balanced. Guests can choose between Wagyu filet mignon or seared salmon. On the side, he included Irish champ, a dish close to his heart. He shared, “When I was a kid, I used to eat champ by the bowl full. So I’m trying to tie in a little bit of my upbringing.”His close friend Shane Lowry also helped him pick the wines. One of them is a 1990 Bordeaux, known for its high value. To finish, McIlroy went with a classic dessert. Sticky toffee pudding with vanilla ice cream and warm toffee sauce. This dinner also marks a special moment in his career. Last year, McIlroy finally won The Masters after many attempts. He beat Justin Rose in a playoff and completed his career Grand Slam. So this menu is not just about taste. It is about where he came from, what he achieved, and the people who shaped his journey.
