The story of our times and the tesseract of truth

Time is the fourth dimension, in addition to the length, width and height of the usual spatial cognition of our world, though most may not realise its ubiety. It is what takes our square existence beyond the humdrum two-dimensional flatness, beyond even the stereoscopy of the cube to the refracting multifacetedness of the hyper-cube, the tesseract. Understanding the tesseract, then, is the key to understanding the story of us and deciding the way forward.Nowadays, when information is abundant but discernment is not, truth very often gets obscured. Only a detailed chronicling of time – our times – reveals the intricate contours of the tesseract, the geometry of truth, going beyond the 3D of what has been all-too-easily accepted as reality down the ages, or even the only reality. Time provides the crucial context, tracks and marks every change, and therefore determines the diverse perceptions of truth too.Humankind has been on a quest for truth even before the concept of time dawned on us. Beyond what was, what is and even what will be, though, is the fourth axis of ‘what could’. It has always been there but not perceived until minds were awakened to its prescience. Transcending the three axes to the reflective fourth one, the tesseract, has become an imperative in our times of clashing truths and blinding contradictions that defy reason and confound the mind.A tesseract is complex but not complicated. As a metaphor for our space-time continuum, it is lucid and yet profound, liberating and illuminating, and yes, utterly mind-bending and mind-blowing in its vividness. When the curtain rises on The Tesseract: The Geometry of Truth at the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA) in Mumbai today, take a journey into the story of our times and understand the clarion call to Let Truth Prevail.

‘I don’t see a point’: Cheteshwar Pujara questions MS Dhoni’s batting position at CSK | Cricket News

'I don’t see a point': Cheteshwar Pujara questions MS Dhoni’s batting position at CSK

The batting position of MS Dhoni in the Chennai Super Kings line up has become a talking point in recent seasons. Fitness concerns have often seen the legendary wicketkeeper batter walk in much lower down the order, sometimes at No. 8 or even No. 9. As a result, Dhoni has been left with only a handful of deliveries to influence the game with the bat.In his prime, Dhoni built a reputation as one of the most destructive finishers in world cricket. Even now, the former CSK captain has produced several quick cameos that remind fans of his finishing ability. Those flashes have sparked debate among supporters and experts who feel he should bat higher to maximise his impact.

Sanju Samson opens up on T20 World Cup journey, and title win

India Test veteran Cheteshwar Pujara is among those who believe Dhoni should be given a bigger role with the bat. Speaking on JioHotstar, Pujara said he struggles to understand the logic behind sending the former India captain so far down the order.“I don’t see a point in MS Dhoni batting at No. 8 or 9, because he has the potential to turn games around single-handedly, something no other batter in the CSK team can do. If he bats for only five or ten balls, imagine what Mahi bhai can do if he plays 25 or 30 balls,” Pujara said on JioHotstar.Pujara, who was part of the CSK squad that lifted their record-equalling fifth Indian Premier League title in 2021, also spoke warmly about the franchise’s dressing room culture.“I’ve been in the CSK setup. In that environment, players are very comfortable; it’s like a family. When you’re in that setup, there is clarity about what is expected of you as a player,” Pujara said.He added that loyalty has always been a defining feature of the franchise’s philosophy.“Loyalty also comes into the picture because most of CSK’s players, if you look at the history, stay for a long time once they become part of that setup. There is a transition in the team now, so there is a bit more preference for young players,” he added.Meanwhile, CSK chief executive Kasi Viswanathan has expressed confidence that Dhoni will feature regularly for the team throughout the season.“He (Dhoni) will play all the matches, according to me,” Kasi said.CSK recently secured the services of wicketkeeper batter Sanju Samson from the Rajasthan Royals, a move that has raised fresh questions about what role Dhoni will perform in the playing eleven.Kasi clarified that the final call on Dhoni’s responsibilities will rest with the team’s coaching staff rather than the administrative management.“That is a cricketing decision which will be taken by the cricketing staff, not by the administrative staff. So they will decide whether he is going to play as a batsman, as a wicketkeeper-batter, or as an impact player,” he said.

Income cannot be sole decider of OBC creamy layer: SC | India News

Income cannot be sole decider of OBC creamy layer: SC

NEW DELHI: The income of parents cannot be the sole criterion for exclusion of a candidate from OBC quota on the ground of being part of ‘creamy layer’, the Supreme Court has said, stressing that status and category of parents’ jobs have to be considered, with income/wealth test as an additional criterion for exclusion. At present, the threshold income to determine ‘creamy layer’ is Rs 8 lakh per annum. The court’s ruling would have huge implications for wards of PSU and private sector employees as income was taken as the sole determining factor to decide on ‘creamy layer’ status for them, unlike in the case of wards of govt employees for whom category of job is the deciding factor. A bench of Justices P S Narasimha and R Mahadevan said children of Group A and B govt employees are barred from availing OBC reservation because of status of their job, but wards of Group C and Group D employees are eligible to get OBC reservation benefits even if their income levels surpass the limit, because of promotion and efflux of time. The court rejected the plea of Centre which had insisted on income/wealth test criterion and accepted the contention of aggrieved children of PSU employees who fought this case through their advocate Shashank Ratnoo for over a decade. The office memorandum issued by Centre in 1993 had said the same principle would be applied to employees of public sector undertakings, banks, insurance organisations, universities, and similar bodies holding equivalent or comparable posts. But the “equivalence of posts” as contemplated in the OM has not been done, and a clarificatory letter was issued by govt in 2004 making income/wealth test the sole criterion for PSU and private sector employees.SC said overemphasis on the 2004 letter without regard to parental status or category of service would defeat the structural framework of exclusion envisaged under the 1993 OM.Can’t have dual criteria for govt staff kids: SCIt is also evident from a comprehensive reading of the 1993 OM along with the clarificatory letter that income from salaries alone cannot be the sole criterion to decide whether a candidate falls within the creamy layer. The status as well as the category of post to which a candidate’s parent or parents belong is essential. The exclusion under Categories I to III of the Schedule is status-based rather than purely income-based, reflecting the policy understanding that advancement within the governmental service hierarchy denotes social progression independent of fluctuating salary levels. The status of a candidate as to whether he/she falls within the creamy layer or the non-creamy layer of the OBCs cannot be decided solely on the basis of income,” Justice Mahadevan, who penned the judgment, said. “Thus, determination of creamy layer status solely on the basis of income brackets, without reference to the categories of posts and status parameters enunciated in the 1993 OM, is clearly unsustainable in law.”Highlighting there cannot be different criteria for children of govt employees and the rest, the court said it would amount to discrimination which can’t be allowed.“Adopting an interpretation that disadvantages one segment of the same backward class without rational justification would amount to treating equals as unequals and would thus become the antithesis of equality… Having regard to the peculiar facts of the present cases, the reasoning adopted by HC that treating similarly placed employees of private entities and PSUs differently from govt employees and their wards, while deciding their entitlement to reservation, would amount to hostile discrimination, is certainly one that inspires the confidence of this court,” it said.

Mumbai: BJP MLA Sudhir Mungantiwar introduced a private member’s bill proposing stricter responsibility for govt employees towards their dependent parents. The proposed bill stated that if a state govt employee failed to properly care for their ageing parents, authorities might direct that 20% of the employee’s salary be transferred to the parents to support their well-being. Mungantiwar stated that it would strengthen family responsibility and ensure financial security for senior citizens who were neglected by their children. The proposed bill might come before the Assembly for discussion in the next session.Referring to his earlier tenure as a minister, Mungantiwar said, “Often when files would come to me pertaining to the officers seeking transfer to their home district. Most of the time, they cited the same reason: that they needed to take care of their parents. Also, now officers use their parents’ name along with their own on nameplates. Then why not make it their legal duty to take care of their parents, through the new law. If they fail, on the parents’ request, 20% of their salary is transferred to them for their well-being.”He named the proposed law the Maharashtra Employee Parent Responsibility, Accountability and Care Act, which will have a provision that if a dependent parent or disabled sibling sought a maintenance allowance from their state govt kin, they might apply to the designated authority for a portion of their salary to be paid to them every month.

Irfan Pathan explains why MI vs RCB would be the biggest clash of IPL 2026

As the dust settles from India‘s spectacular 2026 T20 World Cup triumph, the cricketing world is already shifting its gaze toward the next grand carnival: IPL 2026. Set to kick off on March 28, this season carries a unique weight. For the first time in history, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will walk onto the field not as perennial hopefuls, but as the defending champions.

While the season opener features RCB against SRH, former Indian all-rounder and veteran commentator Irfan Pathan has singled out one specific fixture as the undisputed heavyweight clash of the tournament. According to Pathan, the April 12 face-off between Mumbai Indians (MI) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Wankhede Stadium is the game that will define the league’s pulse.

Why Irfan Pathan crowns MI vs RCB as the ultimate blockbuster of IPL 2026?

For Pathan, this isn’t just a match; it’s a logistical and emotional phenomenon. Speaking on the frenzy that surrounds this rivalry in a Star Sports show, he noted, “Ismein koi do-raye nahi hai, yeh housefull hone wala hai. Humein koi ticket zyada extra us muqable mein milti nahi hai, bada mushkil ho jata hai.” (There are no two ways about it, this is going to be houseful. We don’t even get extra tickets for that match; it becomes very difficult.)

Beyond the ticket scramble, Pathan emphasizes that the superstar quotient of this game is unparalleled. While the IPL is a galaxy of stars, the MI-RCB rivalry brings a specific quality of cricket that Pathan believes is the gold standard. He pointed out that Rohit Sharma has found a second wind in his form over the last two years, looking sharper than ever. On the other side, the world is waiting to see a refreshed Virat Kohli return to his hunt for runs after a brief post-World Cup hiatus. The clash of these two icons, potentially in the twilight of their IPL careers, elevates the game to a spiritual level for Indian fans.

Defending champions vs The quest for lost supremacy

The 2026 season presents a fascinating role reversal. Royal Challengers Bengaluru, under the leadership of Rajat Patidar, who took them to their maiden title in 2025, are no longer the hunters but the hunted. Despite some recent struggles in domestic cricket, Pathan believes Patidar will find his stride as a captain-leader. RCB’s squad depth, featuring the explosive Jacob Bethell and the clinical finishing of Jitesh Sharma (who recently made a strong case for himself before his brief national team exit), makes them a formidable unit to displace.

Conversely, the Mumbai Indians are desperate to reclaim their “big brother” status. After a few seasons of transition and leadership shifts under Hardik Pandya, MI is eyeing 2026 as the year to regain their supremacy. Pathan highlighted that the bowling battle will be equally enticing, noting that the veteran Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s swing will be a massive daromadar (responsibility) for RCB against MI’s powerhouse batting.

Ultimately, whether it’s the six-hitting potential, the electric Wankhede atmosphere, or the sheer density of world-class talent, Pathan’s verdict is clear if you can only watch one game this season, make it this one.
