IPL 2026: Lalit Modi labels LSG owner Sanjeev Goenka ‘clown’ over his reaction to RR and RCB’s record acquisition deal

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 has transitioned from a mere sporting tournament into a global financial behemoth, recently crossing valuation milestones that have sent shockwaves through the sporting world. As the league cements its status as the second most valuable sports property globally per match, the off-field drama is proving to be just as explosive as the action on the pitch. The latest season hasn’t just been defined by centuries and wickets, but by a high-stakes digital spat involving the league’s ‘founding father’ and one of its most prominent current owners.

The fuse was lit following the historic sale of two of the league’s legacy franchises: the Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). The numbers involved are staggering. RR, originally purchased for approximately ₹270 crore in 2008, was recently valued at over ₹15,000 crore. RCB followed suit, with a valuation leap from ₹485 crore at its inception to a massive ₹16,600 crore.

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) owner Sanjiv Goenka took to social media to celebrate these figures, attributing the exponential growth to the current governance of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). Goenka specifically praised the ‘architecture of the IPL’ and the ‘vision of Jay Shah,’ crediting the structuring of digital and broadcast rights for giving investors the confidence to pour billions into the ecosystem. While the tweet seemed like a standard congratulatory note on the league’s health, it acted as a lightning rod for the man who claims the original blueprint for the IPL.

‘Clown’ remark sparks controversy as Lalit Modi hits out at LSG owner

The response from Lalit Modi, the former IPL Commissioner currently living in London, was swift and characteristically unfiltered. Modi, who was instrumental in launching the IPL in 2008 before his controversial exit, took direct aim at Goenka’s historical perspective—or lack thereof.

In a scathing retort, Modi labeled Goenka a ‘clown’ and suggested the billionaire was suffering from memory loss regarding who actually conceived the IPL model. Modi didn’t stop at professional critiques; he made it personal by comparing Sanjiv to his brother, Harsh Goenka, stating he wished the latter owned the franchise instead, calling him a true cricket fan.

Modi’s outburst underscores a long-standing tension between the league’s old guard and its current leadership. By claiming Goenka has zero knowledge and a swelled-up head, Modi is essentially fighting for his legacy, asserting that the current multi-billion dollar valuations are the result of the foundation he laid nearly two decades ago, rather than just the efforts of current BCCI administrators.

The controversy has divided fans and analysts alike. While many acknowledge the incredible job the current BCCI team has done in scaling the league to ₹16,000 crore valuations, others feel Modi’s foundational role in the IPL architecture is often unfairly scrubbed from the official narrative. As the IPL 2026 season kicks off, this war of words serves as a reminder that in the world of cricket’s elite, egos are often as large as the bank balances.

Tectone: Tectone YouTube ban leads to Rumble switch, streamer quits Twitch and YouTube

Tectone YouTube ban leads to Rumble switch, streamer quits Twitch and YouTube

The streaming world saw a major shift this week as Tectone announced he is leaving both YouTube and Twitch. The move comes shortly after he received a one-week ban from YouTube for “excessive swearing.” Because of the suspension, he could not upload videos or go live, which pushed him to rethink his future on the platform. Soon after, he shared a new update on X, confirming that he is now moving to Rumble as an exclusive streamer. In his announcement, Tectone made it clear that this is not a temporary break but a big decision. He said he is “done streaming on YouTube and Twitch” and will now focus fully on Rumble. He also shared that his first stream on the new platform is scheduled for March 28 at 9 AM CST. While he plans to upload censored videos on YouTube, his live content will now be limited to Rumble.

Tectone shifts to Rumble after leaving YouTube and Twitch over bans

Explaining his decision, Tectone openly criticized both platforms for their rules. He said, “I am now going to be a Rumble Exclusive Streamer,” and added that he is “done streaming on platforms that ban me over petty insults.” He also expressed frustration, saying that while he gets punished for language, others are allowed to make serious accusations or disrespect the country they stream from. This shows that he feels the rules are not applied fairly. This is not the first time Tectone has faced issues with streaming platforms. In the past, he has also been banned on Twitch, which has built a pattern around his content style. Some fans believe he often crosses the line, while others support him and think platforms are becoming too strict.Despite leaving, Tectone is not completely cutting ties with YouTube. He confirmed that censored versions of his videos will still be uploaded there. However, his main focus will now be on building his audience on Rumble, where he believes he will have more freedom. For now, all eyes are on how this move will work out. His switch also raises a bigger question about how much freedom creators should have online. When his first Rumble stream goes live, fans will be watching closely to see if this bold move pays off.

Nirav Modi case: UK judges say claims of interrogation torture in India worrying, only India govt promises reassured them | India News

Nirav Modi case: UK judges say claims of interrogation torture in India worrying, only India govt promises reassured them

TOI correspondent from London: The judges who ruled against fugitive jeweller Nirav Modi’s attempt to reopen his appeal against extradition said their judgment “presents a worrying picture of the use of proscribed treatment to obtain confessions, which was characterised as ‘commonplace and endemic’”.Lord Justice Stuart-Smith and Justice Jay said in their order: “Were it not for the statements made and assurances given by the govt of India, we would be minded to re-open this appeal.”Nirav Modi could be extradited to India within a month after losing his final roll of the dice. He cannot go to the Supreme Court as permission to reopen his extradition appeal was refused at the high court on Wednesday. He could approach the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) to try and get an injunction under Rule 39 preventing removal. Such requests are granted on an exceptional basis, when applicants would face an imminent risk of irreversible harm.Barrister Ben Keith, of 5 St Andrew’s Hill, told TOI: “The timetable for removal is 28 days from the decision of the HC. This might be delayed by an application to the ECHR, or if there is an ongoing immigration application, or other logistical difficulties. However, it seems that it is likely to be the end of the line.”Nirav’s barrister, Edward Fitzgerald KC, had argued that Nirav’s appeal against extradition should be reopened after defence middleman Sanjay Bhandari won his appeal on the basis that he would face a real risk of torture at the hands of the investigating bodies in India.

J&K Postwoman: You’ve got mail: J&K’s first postwoman clocks 25 letters a day, 30 years on foot | India News

You've got mail: J&K's first postwoman clocks 25 letters a day, 30 years on foot

SRINAGAR: Ulfat Bano collects around 25 letters from the district post office in south Kashmir’s Shopian every morning and sets out on foot. There is no postal van to hop onto or a bicycle she can use if weariness strikes. The 55-year-old trudges through her native village of Hirapora, past stone walls and wooden barns with corrugated tin roofs – and when winter arrives, through knee-deep snow — to put each envelope in the right hands.Ulfat’s routine hasn’t changed in over three decades, yet she treats the job with the enthusiasm and energy of a recent recruit. For Hirapora, Kashmir’s first postwoman remains the lone postal link with the outside world. The terrain Ulfat negotiates in the line of duty does not make allowances. Hirapora sits at an altitude where snowfall buries walking tracks for weeks.Whenever it snows, which is often during winter in these parts, Hirapora goes to sleep in more ways than one. But the postal department can count on Ulfat to be out on her route, as usual, with an umbrella in one hand and a bundle of mail in the other, her pheran the only spot of colour against the white hillside. She refuses to take a break. Sun, rain or snow, the mail goes out.In a profession dominated by men, Ulfat earns Rs 22,000 a month, working the same hours and covering equal ground as her male counterparts elsewhere in J&K. She doesn’t see a distinction. Neither does she seek any concession. At her age, with barely five years to go for retirement, the work takes a toll Ulfat didn’t feel at 25. “It gets difficult at times,” she tells TOI. “But my passion for this job does not allow me to quit.”What keeps her going are the intangible rewards of her profession. Over the past 30 years, Ulfat has witnessed hundreds of families break into celebration whenever she has been the bearer of good news – a long-awaited letter, a job offer or a parcel from someone far away.“I see my work as a good deed,” says Ulfat. “It connects people across geographies.”Outside the Hirapora post office, a small brick building with the familiar India Post sign above a green curtain, Ulfat sits on the wooden steps, hands folded on her lap. It’s a typically bright spring morning, which should make the grind less taxing than it is when the weather isn’t her ally.Inside the building, the next batch of letters and parcels is getting packed.

Kashmir Terror Recruitment: Terror recruitment case: Raids in 10 locations in 3 Kashmir districts | India News

Terror recruitment case: Raids in 10 locations in 3 Kashmir districts

SRINAGAR: J&K Police’s investigative wing, Counter Intelligence Kashmir (CIK), Thursday raided 10 locations in three districts of Kashmir Valley and busted a “terrorist recruitment module” allegedly linked to handlers across the Line of Control (LoC) and a network based in Bangladesh, a CIK statement claimed. The raids were carried out in Srinagar, Ganderbal and Shopian districts on warrants issued by the special NIA judge in Srinagar. The seizure included “incriminating materials, including digital devices, SIM cards, mobile phones, laptops, and other documents” pertinent to the investigation, the statement said. An FIR under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act was registered at CIK police station.A Bangladesh-based Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist, Shabir Ahmad Lone, had been handling the module, CIK stated. Lone, a native of Kangan in Ganderbal, operated under multiple aliases, including Raju and Zafar Saddique. A “highly radicalised and trained” handler, Lone underwent “structured arms training in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir” and initially worked as an overground worker for a terror outfit in the late 1990s before joining LeT in the early 2000s, the statement said.“He later infiltrated India via the Bangladesh border and remained actively involved in terror-related activities, including conspiracy in high-profile attacks,” CIK stated, adding that Lone later exfiltrated to Bangladesh, from where he has been “operating and coordinating terrorist recruitment and network expansion”.Investigation further revealed that Lone was in close touch with the senior leadership of proscribed terrorist organisations and played a key role in reviving cross-border terror modules, CIK stated. He currently continues direct operations from Bangladesh “through a network of associates and overground workers” and is the “most wanted terrorist operating from a foreign land,” the statement said.CIK had earlier stated that it arrested one of Lone’s close associates, Irfan Ahmad Wani (45) from Shopian’s Heerpura. Wani had been in continuous contact with Lone and other terrorists based in Pakistan and Afghanistan through encrypted messaging platforms. “He was actively engaged in facilitating recruitment, radicalisation, and logistical support at the local level,” CIK had stated.

72 Mumbaikars have filed their living will with civic officials | Mumbai News

Mumbai: Seventy-two Mumbaikars have filed their living will with civic officials so far, according to BMC public health department. A living will is a written, legal document that provides instructions for medical care, or for the termination of medical support, in certain circumstances.“These 72 living wills have been submitted to the appropriate officials in our various ward offices,” BMC executive health officer Dr Daksha Shah said on Thursday. There is a surge in interest in living wills following the death of Harish Rana, India’s first passive euthanasia case, in Delhi. However, even two and a half years after the Supreme Court simplified guidelines for passive euthanasia, there is still a lack of clarity over how these living wills will be processed and handled at the state or corporation level. City gynaecologist Dr Nikhil Datar, who was the first to file a living will in Feb 2023, said that the state govt’s work on digitising living wills for online registration is still incomplete. In 2024, the Maharashtra govt appointed custodians in all civic bodies to receive and safely keep the living will documents of citizens. There are 417 custodians across municipal corporations and other local bodies. These custodians have to safekeep the advanced medical directives or living wills. “After I filed a petition in the high court in this regard, the state said that it would complete digitisation of the living will process within three months. The deadline was July 2025, but the process is incomplete,” said the doctor.A senior civic official said that state-level guidelines are still trickling in. “We need uniformity in the guidelines across the country. What if a person who has filed a living will in Mumbai travels to another state and the provisions have to be implemented?” said the official.

Nirav Modi Trial: Nirav Modi defiant, blames CBI and ED for destroying his businesses | India News

Nirav Modi defiant, blames CBI and ED for destroying his businesses

TOI correspondent from London: Nirav Modi appeared defiant in the dock in his Bank of India (BOI) trial on Thursday, saying that the banks, together with the CBI and ED, had destroyed the business he had spent 20 years building up and that he had committed no fraud against Punjab National Bank.Nirav was giving evidence in a separate civil trial at which he is accused of owing BOI in excess of $10.7 million (Rs 100 crore) via a personal guarantee he allegedly gave on a loan given to Firestar Diamond FZE. He denies he “knowingly and intentionally” signed the guarantee and says he does not owe BOI anything.Dressed in a smart suit, he arrived from prison and looked unfazed by Wednesday’s adverse extradition judgment. He took his oath on the Bhagavad Gita and put both hands through the dock bars as he read from a laptop.Beasley, representing BOI, asked him why he claimed there was no material adverse event for BOI to call in the BOI loan in 2018 given the allegations that appeared in the media about his companies and his alleged fraud against PNB at that time.“It started Feb 5,” Nirav replied. “That is when the media reported on it,” he said. “I remember the date. It was a life-changing event,” he said. “They said Rs 11,000 crore, it was Rs 6,000 core, there was no fraud, and I don’t think his amount would make the top 20 in India.”He then accused PNB of colluding with the CBI. “Normally there would be preliminary investigation and then an FIR — it is unheard of for an FIR to be filed without hearing from the complainee. On Feb 2 , I don’t think anyone was aware except the CBI. Maybe PNB was working with CBI as PNB put it on social media on Feb 3. On Feb 15, the ED pulled the plug on everything — no manufacturing or finance could continue. My business stopped and the ED and CBI seized and attached everything. After the hearing, he told TOI he can’t comment on the extradition judgment.
