Mumbai: MNS wins BMC’s G-North ward committee as Shiv Sena (UBT) withdraws from election at the 11th hour | Mumbai News

Mumbai: A last-minute withdrawal by Shiv Sena (UBT) corporator Joseph Koli cleared the way for Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) corporator Yashwant Killedar to be elected unopposed as G-North ward committee chairperson on Friday.Killedar is among the six MNS corporators in BMC and, given the party’s limited strength, it would otherwise have been unlikely to secure the post for him.Sources indicated there was an understanding between Sena (UBT) and MNS to allow the latter’s candidate to head the committee, after Sena (UBT) reportedly declined to share nominated corporator positions within its quota. Sena (UBT) had nominated Sainath Durge, Madhuri Manjrekar, and Kailash Pathak.Alongside G North, elections for five ward committee chairpersons were also held on Friday. BJP corporators Shrikala Ramachandran Pillai (P-South), Rohan Rathod (K West) and Prakash Musale (K-North and K-South) were elected unopposed. Shiv Sena (UBT) corporators Rohini Kamble (H-East and H-West) and Padmaja Chemburkar (G-South) were also elected unopposed. The elections for P-South, K-West, and K-North and K-South ward committees were presided over by mayor Ritu Tawde, while the polls for H-East and H-West, G-North, and G-South ward committees were conducted under the supervision of deputy mayor Sanjay Ghadi.Several corporators, who were part of the election process, arrived at BMC headquarters to attend the standing committee meeting after casting their votes. Congress corporator Tulip Miranda from Kalina said they made it a point to participate in the ward committee voting as these bodies play a key role in deciding the fate of local development works and civic projects in their respective areas. Over the last two days, the election process for 12 ward committee chairpersons has been completed. Polls for the remaining five ward committees — L, N, S and T, M-West, and M-East — will be held on Monday.

South Delhi home horror: Woman ‘kills’ 2 daughters, tries suicide; bandage, crushed naphthalene balls found at scene | Delhi News

South Delhi home horror: Woman 'kills' 2 daughters, tries suicide; bandage, crushed naphthalene balls found at scene
In a shocking Malviya Nagar incident, police found two sisters dead and their mother unconscious. Authorities suspect the mother, Sunita, killed her daughters, Radhika and Gunisha, before attempting suicide. Crushed naphthalene balls and a crepe bandage were recovered from the scene. Investigations into potential depression and domestic discord are ongoing.

NEW DELHI: Crushed naphthalene balls and a strip of crepe bandage were what police found in the Malviya Nagar flat where two sisters were found dead and their mother unconscious on Thursday. Police suspect the 50-year-old woman, Sunita, killed her daughters Radhika (33) and Gunisha (28) and then tried to die by suicide. Police suspect that Gunisha was strangled with the crepe bandage. The elder daughter, Radhika, was smothered with a pillow. Cops said they found signs of struggle that indicated smothering. “The elder daughter was a special child. She used to assist a teacher working with specially-abled children, but quit working a few years ago. The younger daughter had completed a law course,” a source said. Sources added that the mixture of naphthalene balls may have been used to sedate one of the daughters, and Sunita may have consumed it as well. “These are our suspicions. We are awaiting the post-mortem reports of the sisters and medical reports of the woman, who was receiving treatment,” the source added. Police also found cut marks on the hands of one of the daughters. When the cops entered the house through a ventilation window after breaking the glass pane, they found Sunita lying on the floor and Gunisha on a bed in a room. Sunita’s husband had left for the garment shop that he runs in south Delhi. Several family members live in the same building where Sunita and her family occupied the ground floor. A senior police officer said they suspect Sunita first killed her daughters, then attempted suicide. “We learned that the family was not social and may have been dealing with some form of depression. All angles are being investigated, including possible domestic discord,” the officer said.

Bandage, Crushed Napthalene Balls Found At ‘Murder-Suicide Bid’ Spot

Neighbours in Malviya Nagar’s F Block seemed shocked. They described the mother and daughters as well-behaved and good natured, though they mostly kept to themselves. The family had lived in the area for the last 50 years. On Friday, senior officers visited the spot and spoke to family members for over an hour. Lalit, a neighbour, said Sunita was a caring mother and accompanied her daughters whenever they went out. “They mostly kept to themselves and rarely came out of their home,” he added. The family lived in a four-storey building. Sunita’s mother-in-law lived on the second floor, and the remaining two floors were occupied by her husband’s brother and his family. Ranjana, who works in homes in the area, said the last time she spoke to Sunita, she mentioned that she wanted a house help. “She was polite.” Neighbour Ramesh Thakur (75) said that Sunita’s husband returned home around 5 pm and kept knocking on the door. No one opened it. He also went to the rear of the house, but was not successful in entering the flat. “He tried to contact key makers but came to know that the door cannot be opened by key makers. Other neighbours also came, and after half an hour, the police was contacted,” he said.

She said there were “a lot of rumours that she was against Khalistanis and that she abused them”. “I clarified several times that I am not against genuine Khalistanis; people have their rights. But I am against those Khalistanis who abuse women and issue dirty threats. I am against violence and burning the Indian flag,” she said.Grewal was stabbed on March 3 in LaSalle in Ontario. According to the LaSalle Police Service, emergency responders were called to the 2400 block of Todd Lane shortly before 9:30pm following reports of a stabbing. Police said a 45-year-old woman was found with injuries and was taken to hospital by Essex-Windsor Emergency Medical Services, where she later died. Authorities later identified the victim as Nancy Grewal and said the homicide investigation was ongoing. “To ease public concern, we are sharing that investigators are viewing this as an isolated incident,” the LaSalle Police Service said in a statement, urging anyone with information or video surveillance footage to come forward. Grewal was active on social media and often expressed views on social and political issues related to Punjab. She had spoken against Khalistan supporters and had also made remarks about pro-Khalistan activist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun. In recent weeks, she had also commented on Radha Soami Satsang Beas head Gurinder Singh Dhillon after he met Shiromani Akali Dal leader Bikram Singh Majithia in Nabha Jail on February 2. Her mother alleged that Nancy had been receiving threats for some time. “She was stabbed multiple times,” Kaur said, claiming that some hardliners based in Windsor had developed hostility towards her daughter. Kaur also said Nancy had earlier survived another attack when her house was allegedly set on fire. “Nancy continued to receive threats,” she said. According to Kaur, a masked youth had once come near Nancy’s residence to conduct a recce. “Nancy had installed CCTV cameras at her residence. When she spotted him, he got scared. Had the CCTV cameras not been installed, he could have killed Nancy at her residence,” she said. Kaur said Nancy moved to Canada in 2018, where she completed a nursing course and worked for two companies. The mother said she last spoke to her daughter on March 2. Nancy did not answer her calls the next day. “Nancy used to share everything including about her patients,” she said.

Global conflicts show wars won’t be short, need to build resilient defence industrial capacities: Navy chief | India News

Global conflicts show wars won’t be short, need to build resilient defence industrial capacities: Navy chief

Navy chief Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi

NEW DELHI: Stressing the need for stronger industrial preparedness for modern warfare, Navy chief Admiral Dinesh Kumar Tripathi on Friday said recent global conflicts have challenged the long-held assumption that wars would be short and decisive, highlighting the urgent need for nations to build resilient defence industrial capacities.Speaking during a session at the ongoing Raisina Dialogue 2026 in Delhi, the Admiral said developments over the past few years have underlined the importance of sustained military readiness, technological adaptability and large-scale defence production. “There is obviously a thought process that the post-Cold War peace dividend has certainly ended. Therefore, countries must be ready for their own national security, and that requires building their own defence industrial complexes,” Admiral Tripathi said. The Navy chief touched upon the need to stay abreast of fast-evolving technology in the defence sector. “Not only must one produce [military equipment] at scale, but one must also be ready to upgrade while producing, because technology is changing at the speed of thought. We have seen the need for that and must be ready on that count,” he said.He said rapid adaptation is a must because time waits for no one, and surge capacity must be sufficient to deal with challenges.“It is not that you will be subjected to situations when your equipment is ready. Managing inventory is critical, and we need the capacity to surge when required. That requires very evolved defence industrial bases. These are some of the lessons learnt from what is happening around the world,” the Navy chief said.

Faf du Plessis makes shocking T20 World Cup 2026 winner call

The former South Africa captain, Faf du Plessis, makes a shocking call ahead of the T20 World Cup 2026 Final. After beating England in a high-scoring match, India is in the final of the tournament, preparing to take on New Zealand.

During a quick question-answer round with ESPNcricinfo, du Plessis was asked to predict the winner of the T20 World Cup 2026. The reply made by the former can put many cricket fans in disbelief.

Faf du Plessis predicted the winner of the T20 World Cup 2026

It was rapid fire round, where the former skipper had to reply with quickness. For most parts of the round, he preferred to name his own nation, which is South Africa. Though the way South Africa was eliminated from the title race was disappointing for him.

But will be the champion of this edition’s T20 World Cup 2026? Over a strong-performing New Zealand cricket team, Faf du Plessis said that India will lift the title again.

If the Men in Blue can claim the title for the second straight edition, then it will be a historic moment. So far, none of the teams have been able to defend their title, and none of the teams have been able to win the trophy on their home ground. If India manages to reclaim the title, then they will be the first ever to defend the title successfully, and the first ever team to win on home soil.

Faf du Plessis’ replies for each quickly fired question:

Faf du Plessis shared his quick picks while answering a series of questions. When asked about Big Hits, he went with South Africa, and for All Class, he again chose his national side. For the Bankable Star, du Plessis picked Jasprit Bumrah from India.

Talking about raw pace, he named Jofra Archer of England as lightning-quick. For Tactical Wizard, du Plessis selected South Africa captain Aiden Markram. He described Zimbabwe as the Underrated side of the tournament, while also labeling South Africa as Disappointing in one category.

For the ‘Safe Hands’ category, there were multiple names in his thoughts, like New Zealand star Glenn Phillips and South Africa’s experienced keeper-batter Quinton de Kock. But Plessis mentioned Marco Jansen as Phillips and de Kock, both dropped catches.

But, when he was asked to predict the name of the winner, du Plessis, taking no time, said, “India”.

Semi-finals of the T20 World Cup 2026

Talking about the semifinals of the tournament, India entered the final by defeating England by 7 runs at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. India went to bat first and registered 253 runs in exchange for 7 wickets, thanks to Sanju Samson’s 89-run innings. In reply, England scored 246 runs, mostly supported by Jacob Bethell’s valiant century. But his sole effort was not enough to save the match for his team.

In the other semifinal, New Zealand defeated South Africa in a one-sided match. Finn Allen smashed an undefeated century to ensure a 9-wicket win, chasing 170 at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata. Finn Allen’s opening partner, Tim Seifert, registered a half-century as well in the run chase.

‘Jana Nayagan’ heads for censor review on March 9; Film may arrive in theatres In THIS date – Reports | Tamil Movie News

'Jana Nayagan' heads for censor review on March 9; Film may arrive in theatres In THIS date - Reports
Thalapathy Vijay’s ‘Jana Nayagan’ is nearing its censor certification, with a screening scheduled for March 9, 2026. This development could pave the way for a release, potentially before the Tamil Nadu elections in late April or early May. The film’s release was initially planned for Pongal but was delayed.

Thalapathy Vijay‘s most awaited actioner ‘Jana Nayagan’ is reportedly moving closer to completing its censor formalities. The movie, directed by H. Vinoth, has been awaiting its certification for some time. Now, new reports suggest that the process could finally move forward.According to a report by Valai Pechu, the makers of Jana Nayagan have received an email from the Revising Committee of the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The committee is said to have scheduled a screening for the film on March 9, 2026. Apparently, the film will be screened by the committee on March 9, 2026, at 2 pm. If everything proceeds without complications the certification could be issued soon after the screening. That would allow the team to finalize the film’s theatrical release plans.Film initially planned for January releaseJana Nayagan was originally planned for a Pongal release. The film was earlier scheduled to hit theatres on January 9, 2026. However, the release did not happen as expected. The delay was primarily due to the film still awaiting its censor certificate. Without certification from the CBFC, the movie cannot be released in theatres.

Toxic postponement creates opportunity

Recently, the makers of Yash’s ‘Toxic’ announced a change in their release plan.‘Toxic’ production house confirmed that ‘Toxic’ would not release on March 19, 2026, as originally planned. Instead, the team is now targeting June 4, 2026 which was a move influenced by the current situation in Middle Eastern countries. This postponement disappointed many fans who were eager for the film’s release. However, the change has also created an open window in the theatrical calendar. For the team behind ‘Jana Nayagan’ this newly available slot reportedly could a blessing in disguise. With fewer major releases around that time, the film might enjoy a clearer run at the box office.

Makers avoid clash with ‘Toxic’

Earlier reports had suggested another possible release date for ‘Jana Nayagan’. Some sources claimed that the film might arrive in theatres on June 18, 2026.However, the producers reportedly do not want Vijay’s film to release too close to ‘Toxic’. Releasing just two weeks after a major pan-Indian film could affect box office performance.A report by the Valai Pechu YouTube channel stated that the Jana Nayagan team expects the newly revised censor board committee to complete the film’s review and issue certification by March 17, 2026. If the process moves as planned the film may arrive sooner than anticipated.Because of this, the makers are said to be exploring an earlier release window instead of waiting until June.Another factor that could shape the film’s release is the upcoming Tamil Nadu legislative assembly elections.Sources indicate that if the censor approval comes through on time, ‘Jana Nayagan’ could be released exactly a week after the Tamil Nadu legislative assembly elections.Although official election dates have not yet been announced, the voting is expected to take place in the third week of April 2026.If that timeline holds, Vijay’s film could arrive in theatres by late April or early May. However, the makers are yet to confirm the final release date.

‘Red corridor’ will be crushed by March 31, says Amit Shah | India News

'Red corridor' will be crushed by March 31, says Amit Shah

BHUBANESWAR/CUTTACK: Union home minister Amit Shah on Friday hailed security forces for decisively curbing Naxal activities, declaring that the extremists’ long-cherished ambition of establishing a “red corridor” stretching from Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh to Pashupati in Nepal will be removed by March 31.He was speaking at the 57th raising day celebrations of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) at Mundali in Cuttack district of Odisha, where he launched five housing projects worth Rs 890 crore for the paramilitary force which he hailed a “key catalyst” in India’s industrial growth.“Naxal-free India is the resolve of the Narendra Modi govt. I want to reassure citizens that by March 31, left-wing extremism (LWE) will be completely wiped out. By defeating those who dream of a red corridor from Tirupati to Pashupati, our security forces will establish their dominance,” Shah said. Highlighting the CISF’s role in anti-Maoist efforts, Shah said: “Be it Odisha, Chhattisgarh or Telangana, CISF has made a significant contribution in our fight against LWE.Although CISF is not directly engaged in combat operations, officials say they play a crucial supporting role – serving as road-opening parties, securing routes for troop movement, protecting installations in Naxal-affected areas, and assisting state govts in outreach and welfare initiatives to build trust. From the Mundali training centre, Shah laid the foundation stone virtually for three CISF residential complexes in Assam, Maharashtra, and Madhya Pradesh.
