BEST to receive only half of promised 1.3k e-buses this yr | Mumbai News

Mumbai: Instead of 1,300 electric buses, BEST will receive only 685 buses this year, said minister of state for transport Madhuri Misal in the legislative council on Monday. She was responding to Shiv Sena (UBT) MLC Sunil Shinde, who demanded BEST purchase CNG buses given the rising number of accidents owing to electric vehicles.Misal said considering the population of Mumbai and passengers’ requirement, city needs at least 10,000 buses. For this, BEST had given work orders to various contractors for supply of 6,555 buses. However, as contractors were unable to deliver the buses on time, bus services could not be increased to the expected extent. As per the scrapping policy, the number of buses owned by BEST has come down as buses are scrapped every 15 years. Earlier, BEST had 1,882 owned buses, but currently, this number is down to 249. The remaining buses are on lease; currently there are 2,558 leased buses available, she said.Meanwhile, the govt had in Dec 2024 announced during the winter session that 1,300 electric buses (e-buses) will be added to the BEST fleet “soon”. The state government’s announcement had come at a time when the wet-lease model adopted by BEST had received much flak.Sources said BEST was set to receive Rs 498 crore from 15th Finance Commission to procure these electric buses.

Karnataka suspends online sale of Mysore silk saris as orders surge

Karnataka suspends online sale of Mysore silk saris as orders surge

BENGALURU: Karnataka govt has suspended online sales of Mysore silk saris after surging orders outstripped supply of the GI-tagged weave made with pure mulberry silk, gold zari and silver threads. State-owned Karnataka Silk Industries Corporation will prioritise limited stocks for buyers visiting its exclusive outlets.Sericulture minister K Venkatesh made the announcement in the assembly on Monday, attributing the spike in demand to the high quality of the saris. He said online sales would resume once production stabilises.KSIC launched online sales to make the saris accessible to customers outside the state. It been producing the famed weave since 1912 and currently turns out 300–400 saris a day. Its collective output over the past three years stood at 3.1 lakh saris.

-

Venkatesh said the popularity of the saris was evident during special discount sales. “Since saris with defects remain unsold, we offer 25% to 50% discounts. During these special sales, people queue up from 3am,” he said.KSIC sources premium cocoons mostly from govt markets in Sidlaghatta, Ramanagara and Kollegal in the state. “There is huge competition in procuring high-quality cocoons from Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and other states,” Venkatesh said, adding efforts were being made to secure quality supply. To meet growing demand, the govt has installed 30 e-jacquard looms, increasing production by about 7,500 metres a month. KSIC’s finances have also improved, with profit rising to Rs 101 crore in 2024-25 from Rs 73 crore in 2023-24 and Rs 46 crore in 2022-23.

Government working to ‘optimise’ gas supply as Gulf war hits LNG flow

Government working to ‘optimise’ gas supply as Gulf war hits LNG flow

NEW DELHI: With nearly 40% of India’s LNG flow hit due to the West Asia conflict, govt is working on an “optimisation plan” for industries, including priority segments such as fertiliser. Those familiar with the discussions said the petroleum ministry could work out the arrangement as early as Tuesday, with a reduction in supply to fertiliser sector not ruled out.“Fertiliser units will be given enough supply for them to operate at optimum level,” said a person in the know. Some of the fertiliser units are said to be advancing their maintenance shutdowns, and the lower gas availability won’t be so much of a concern for now due to the lean season. Besides, with sufficient urea stocks at its disposal, the industry is not overly worried. Fertiliser Association of India (FAI) said that India is entering agricultural lean season and kharif sowing will begin in June. “During this phase, fertiliser consumption typically remains moderate, allowing the industry to replenish inventories and undertake routine maintenance operations at production facilities.”Amid concerns over a possibly sharp cut, an industry executive said that fertiliser is a priority for govt and the reduction will not be drastic. The non-priority sectors will, however, need to make do with lower supplies and make alternate arrangements to meet their fuel requirements, insiders indicated.

-

Company executives said India continues to get 60% of its LNG supply from sources other than West Asia and efforts are underway to tie up more supplies, including from countries such as Australia and Canada. One of the challenges will be arranging for tankers that can ship the gas as well as ensuring that new sources of gas have surplus capacity to liquify the gas before it is loaded onto vessels.According to official data, there is sufficient stock of fertiliser, estimated to have increased 36.5% to 17.7 million tonnes as of Friday, compared with nearly 13 MTs a year ago. DAP and NPK inventories are 70-80% higher than last year, FAI said, adding that in case of phosphatic fertilizers India has diversified supplies, which offset the risk from one region.“Fertiliser reserves, which are significantly higher than last year, provide a vital operational cushion, ensuring that international logistics bottlenecks do not translate into domestic farm-gate shortages,” the fertilisers department said in a statement on Friday. It added that agencies had imported the soil nutrients in large quantities, which added up to 9.8 MTs till the end of Feb. Import of another 1.7 MTs has been tied up for the next three months. Some of this, however, may face disruption due to the conflict in West Asia.Currently, 60% of LNG used in urea manufacturing is imported from Qatar, which has been forced to stop production after a hit on the QatarEnergy facility by Iran.

‘You were in bad form, I was out for two years’: Ishan Kishan’s witty reply to Abhishek Sharma | Cricket News

Ishan Kishan and Abhishek Sharma (PTI Photo)

NEW DELHI: Young Indian cricketers Ishan Kishan and Abhishek Sharma spoke candidly about their journeys of struggle, criticism and self-belief after playing key roles in India’s triumph at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. Both batters struck half-centuries in the final as India defeated New Zealand national cricket team by 96 runs on Sunday to clinch their third T20 World Cup title. India had earlier won the tournament in 2007 and 2024.Kishan was one of India’s standout performers throughout the tournament, scoring three half-centuries. Abhishek, however, had a far more difficult journey leading up to the final.

Ahmedabad erupts as Team India arrive at hotel after T20 World Cup win

The left-handed opener faced heavy criticism after failing to score in his first three matches of the tournament, registering ducks against the USA, Pakistan and the Netherlands. He finally broke the streak against South Africa but managed only 15 runs. A knock of 55 against Zimbabwe briefly lifted his confidence, but he struggled again in the following games, scoring just 10 and 9 against West Indies and England.Despite the poor run of form, the team management continued to back him. Their faith paid off in the most important match of the tournament. In the final, Abhishek delivered a stunning performance, smashing 52 off just 21 balls, including eight sixes, to provide India with a blistering start.Kishan’s journey to the World Cup was also far from easy. He had spent a long period out of the national team and was even left out of the central contracts list. However, he continued to work hard and waited patiently for his opportunity. The wicketkeeper-batter eventually earned his place back in the side after leading Jharkhand to the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy title earlier this year. After India’s victory in Ahmedabad, both players addressed the media and spoke about overcoming difficult phases in their careers. When asked about dealing with setbacks, Abhishek began responding before Kishan interrupted him, joking that his own struggles had lasted much longer, triggering laughter in the room.“I can also answer that. You were in bad form for a month, I spent two years out of team,” Kishan said as the duo broke into laughter.Reflecting on how he managed to stay mentally strong, Kishan stressed the importance of belief and resilience.“I think for me the most important thing is self belief. Because once you go into that self-doubt zone then that puts pressure on your game. That does not help individually and you are not also helping the team. So, self belief, hard work and when you help others in their bad time, it returns to you as well,” Ishan said.He added that his time in domestic cricket helped him change his perspective and focus on contributing more to the team environment.“So, this is what i learned in domestic. Instead just focussing on myself, I thought why should not I take the whole team forward…. Have good company, do hard work, be happy and never lose confidence in yourself. And you definitely have to improve your game,” Kishan, who led Jharkhand to the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy this year, said. After Kishan finished, Abhishek — who had dominated the bowlers in the final — took the microphone to share his thoughts.“Your company matters a lot in these times. If you are surrounded by people who are there to make you happy and make you feel that you have achieved something. Everyone (in the team) was so supportive and so happy. All the players, coaches and support staff, I never see any doubt on anyone’s face even though I was doubting myself,” Abhishek said.

WATCH: Jasprit Bumrah and Axar Patel’s fatherly love steal the spotlight amid India’s T20 World Cup 2026 celebrations

The grand stage of the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad witnessed more than just a cricketing masterclass on March 08, 2026. As India dismantled New Zealand by 96 runs to clinch their third T20 World Cup title, the 86,000 fans in attendance were treated to a rare, humanizing glimpse behind the Men in Blue personas. While the scorecard will forever highlight India’s mammoth 255/5 and Jasprit Bumrah’s lethal 4/15, the real viral moments came from the tender father-son bonds shared by the champions on the turf.

Angad Bumrah’s big debut as he walks out for national Anthem with father Jasprit Bumrah

The emotional tone of the final was set long before the first ball was bowled. In a move that pulled at the heartstrings of millions, India’s pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah walked out for the national anthem holding the hand of his young son, Angad. Acting as a tiny player mascot, Angad stood tall beside his father as Jana Gana Mana echoed through the world’s largest cricket stadium.

For Bumrah, this wasn’t just another game. Returning to the venue where India faced a heartbreaking ODI World Cup final loss in 2023, the sight of him sharing the pre-match ritual with his son felt like a poetic full circle. Fans on social media quickly noted the contrast between the silent assassin who terrorizes batters and the doting father whispering words of encouragement to a toddler on the world’s biggest stage. It was a moment of pure serenity before the impending storm of his 145-plus kmph thunderbolts.

Bumrah and Axar Patel put their dad mode on display during India’s T20 World Cup 2026 victory celebrations

Once the final wicket fell in the 19th over, the work ended and the family time began. The post-match celebrations weren’t just about champagne and trophies; they were a celebration of fatherhood. Bumrah, crowned Player of the Match, was seen cradling Angad in his arms, draped in the Indian tricolour. In a touching interview with his wife, Sanjana Ganesan, Bumrah admitted that winning was special, but having his son witness the victory was the greatest joy of his career.

Not far away, Axar Patel, the local boy who turned the game with his 3/27, was also in full ‘Dad Mode.’ Joined by his wife Meha and their son Haksh, Axar was seen playing with his little one on the outfield, letting the youngster touch the gold medal. The ‘Gujarati Jugalbandi’ of Bumrah and Axar didn’t just break the New Zealand chase; it provided the most wholesome imagery of the tournament. Seeing these elite athletes transition from fierce competitors to gentle fathers within minutes of a World Cup win reminded the world that behind every wicket and trophy is a support system that keeps them grounded.

As India become the first team to successfully defend a T20 World Cup title on home soil, the 2026 triumph will be remembered as much for the ‘fatherly love’ in the spotlight as it will be for the tactical brilliance on the field.
