Government asks refineries to boost LPG for homes amid Middle East crisis

NEW DELHI: The government has directed oil refineries to increase the production of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and divert the additional output for domestic household use in view of geopolitical disruptions affecting fuel supplies, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas announceed on Monday. The move comes amid constraints in LPG availability due to global supply pressures, prompting the ministry to prioritise cooking gas supply for households. As part of the measures, the government has increased the minimum waiting period for booking a domestic LPG refill from 21 days to 25 days. The step is aimed at preventing hoarding and black marketing while ensuring equitable distribution of cylinders, sources said. The ministry has asked refineries to maximise LPG recovery and channel the incremental production towards domestic consumption to maintain stable supplies for households. For non-domestic consumption, the government has decided to prioritise supplies from imported LPG for essential sectors such as hospitals and educational institutions.Meanwhile, a committee comprising three executive directors of oil marketing companies (OMCs) has been constituted to examine requests for LPG supply from other non-domestic users, including restaurants, hotels and industries. The panel will review representations from these sectors and take decisions on supply allocations based on availability and priority requirements, sources said. The measures are part of the government’s contingency planning to manage LPG distribution amid uncertainties in the global energy market and to ensure uninterrupted supply of cooking gas to households.

Abhishek Sharma shares the story behind using Shivam Dube’s bat in the T20 World Cup 2026 Final

In the high-pressure cauldron of a T20 World Cup 2026 Final, cricketers often cling to routine. But for Abhishek Sharma, India’s explosive opener, the path to redemption required a departure from the norm. On Sunday, at the packed Narendra Modi Stadium, Abhishek silenced his critics with a historic 18-ball half-century against New Zealand. However, the biggest talking point following India’s third T20 World Cup title wasn’t just the speed of his innings, but the equipment he used to achieve it: the bat of teammate Shivam Dube.

Abhishek Sharma explains why he used Shivam Dube’s bat in the T20 World Cup 2026 Final

Abhishek entered the 2026 tournament as the world’s top-ranked T20I batter, yet he spent most of the campaign searching for his rhythm. Aside from a lone fifty against Zimbabwe in the Super 8s, the left-hander had struggled to replicate the fearless form that defined his rise. Feeling the weight of a month-long lean patch, Abhishek decided to change his vibe on the morning of the final.

I felt like trying something different,” Abhishek revealed during the post-match celebrations. With his usual batting partner Shubman Gill unavailable at the moment he made the decision, Abhishek approached the towering Dube. The trade proved to be a masterstroke. The Dube blade, known for its heavy swing and power, seemed to suit Abhishek’s aggressive intent perfectly.

Beyond the physical bat, Abhishek credited the unwavering psychological support of the Indian dressing room. In a sport where a string of low scores can lead to isolation, the 24-year-old emphasized that the “company you keep” saved his tournament.

When I was not contributing, everyone in the team still believed in me,” he noted. This collective faith allowed him to walk out in Ahmedabad not with the fear of failure, but with the freedom to dominate.

Abhishek’s record-breaking redemption and India’s clinical title defence

The tactical switch paid immediate dividends. Opening the innings against a formidable Black Caps attack, Abhishek unleashed a relentless assault during the powerplay. He reached his milestone in just 18 deliveries—smashing three boundaries and four towering sixes—to claim the record for the fastest fifty in a T20 World Cup knockout match. This eclipsed the previous record of 19 balls set by New Zealand’s Finn Allen earlier in the tournament.

Abhishek’s blistering 52 off 21 balls (at a strike rate of 247.62) acted as the catalyst for a record-breaking Indian total. Following his exit, Sanju Samson played a majestic knock of 89, while Ishan Kishan added a rapid 54. Fittingly, Dube, the owner of the magic bat provided the finishing touches to propel India to a massive 255/5.

The scoreboard pressure proved too much for New Zealand. Despite a fighting half-century from Tim Seifert, the sheer class of Jasprit Bumrah (4/15) and the guile of Axar Patel (3/27) dismantled the Kiwi chase. India’s 96-run victory not only secured their third T20 World Cup trophy but also established them as the first nation to successfully defend the title. For Abhishek, the tournament ended exactly how it began: with him at the top of the world, albeit with a little help from a teammate’s gear.

Fuel shortage fear grips Pakistan: Sharif orders school shutdown, four-day workweek amid Mideast conflict

Midnight missiles: Japan quietly deploys 1,000 km Type-12 launchers, China now within reach |

Midnight missiles: Japan quietly deploys 1,000 km Type-12 launchers, China now within reach

Japan has begun preparations to deploy its first batch of domestically developed long-range missiles, with launchers arriving at an army camp in Kumamoto Prefecture early Monday, officials said. The upgraded Type-12 land-to-ship missiles are set to be operational at Camp Kengun by the end of March, completing the initial deployment phase, chief cabinet secretary Minoru Kihara confirmed, AP reported.Army vehicles carrying the launchers and related equipment arrived past midnight in what was described as a highly secretive operation. The move drew criticism from local residents, with dozens gathering outside the camp, shouting “Stop long-range missile deployment!” and holding protest banners.“The prefecture has never been notified,” Kumamoto Governor Takashi Kimura told reporters. “It is extremely disappointing that we learned this from media reports.” In response, the regional defense bureau in Kyushu announced plans to invite local representatives for an equipment exhibit at the camp next week, ahead of the full deployment on March 31. No town hall meetings are planned. The defense ministry had moved up the deployment schedule by one year last year. Japan’s accelerated military buildup in the southwestern region comes amid rising tensions around Taiwan, claimed by China. The Type-12 missile, developed and produced by Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, has a range of about 1,000 km (620 miles), significantly extending the original 200 km (125 miles) range and capable of reaching mainland China. The missile is expected to be next deployed at Camp Fuji in Shizuoka later this year. Japan has deployed PAC-3 interceptors and midrange surface-to-air missiles on southwestern islands, including Okinawa, Ishigaki, and Miyako. Defense Minister Shinjiro Koizumi said last month that midrange SAMs will be deployed on Yonaguni Island, east of Taiwan, by March 2031.Japan’s prime minister Sanae Takaichi has indicated that any Chinese military action against Taiwan could trigger a Japanese military response. She plans to revise national security policy by year-end, boost Japan’s military capabilities with unmanned weapons and long-range missiles, and lift restrictions on lethal arms exports to strengthen the defense industry.
