‘Russia driving wedge’: Kyiv denies anti-India plot, seeks fair probe into detention of 6 Ukrainians

NEW DELHI: Ukraine on Thursday called for a transparent and impartial investigation into the detention of six of its nationals in Mizoram, firmly rejecting any suggestion of involvement in terrorist activities and accusing Russia of trying to “drive a wedge between Ukraine and India. The Ukrainian nationals were detained for allegedly entering Mizoram without authorisation and suspected unlawful activities. An American national was also detained in connection with the case. According to reports, the individuals are accused of assisting certain entities in Myanmar that are believed to have links with anti-India insurgent groups.MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “There are certain areas which are restricted in India, and there are certain protected areas. So for those areas, you need permission to travel there, and whether they were in possession of this particular permission or not, it is now in the court. It will be presented, and thereafter, we’ll come to know… I understand that they may want certain documents for travelling to that part of India.Ukraine’s ambassador Oleksandr Polishchuk recently met Secretary (West) in the external affairs ministry, Sibi George, and sought consular access to the detained citizens.Embassy of Ukraine in a statement said, “Ukraine firmly rejects any insinuations regarding the possible involvement of the Ukrainian State in supporting terrorist activities. Ukraine is a state that faces the consequences of Russian terror on a daily basis and, for this very reason, takes a principled and uncompromising stance in combating terrorism in all its forms. The embassy also expressed “serious concern” over media reports suggesting that the action in the case was “prompted” by information from the Russian side, describing the situation as showing signs of a “possible orchestrated and politically motivated nature.”Referring to ties with India, Ukraine noted that both countries have already affirmed their shared position on combating terrorism. It cited the joint statement issued after Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Ukraine on August 23, 2024, where both sides strongly condemned terrorism, said there can be no justification for it, and underlined the need for international cooperation in line with international law and the UN Charter.Building on this, Ukraine said that any allegations related to terrorism must be examined strictly on the basis of verified facts, transparent procedures, and full intergovernmental cooperation. It also emphasised the need for objectivity, transparency, and impartiality in the investigation.Ukraine further expressed its readiness for “active cooperation” between its authorities and Indian counterparts, particularly under the bilateral Treaty on Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters, which provides for extensive cooperation through designated authorities. The statement also underlined that Ukraine has no interest in any activity that could threaten India’s security and alleged that “it is Russia, as an aggressor state, that seeks under every circumstance to drive a wedge between friendly countries – Ukraine and India.”Ukraine also warned that any attempts to use the case to discredit it or create distrust in India-Ukraine relations would be seen as a deliberate effort to harm bilateral ties, which it said are steadily developing and have strong potential for further growth.

Pakistan’s Ahmed Shehzad compares IPL with PSL, calls it retired cricketers’ league | Cricket News

Pakistan's Ahmed Shehzad compares IPL with PSL, calls it retired cricketers’ league

NEW DELHI: Veteran Pakistan batter Ahmed Shehzad has openly criticised the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) after the team’s recent poor performances. He also drew a stark comparison between player quality in the IPL and PSL.“If you look at the IPL, they’ve got many superstars in their league who make the league competitive. Teams there invest for years, building strength,” Shehzad said on his YouTube channel.“On the other hand, PSL has hired retired players and commentators and made them superstars over the last 3–4 years; even retired players become your brand faces. They get money, but what have they actually built? I think this sums up what PSL has become.”

Cricket stars gather for Kuldeep Yadav’s grand wedding reception | Star-studded night

In the T20 World Cup, Pakistan failed to reach the semifinals and then suffered a disappointing ODI series defeat against Bangladesh, prompting a strong reaction from the cricketer. He described the current phase as one of the weakest he has seen and blamed both players and management for the decline.

Strong criticism of players and PCB

Shehzad questioned the quality and impact of the current group of players, especially those who have been consistently backed by the board. He said, “The calibre of your players is not at that level, which was built up as a brand by the Pakistan Cricket Board for the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 5 and 7 years ago. These 6-8 boys… they are also the face of the PSL. They are also the face of our Pakistan team. Will they change Pakistan’s destiny?”He further accused the PCB of heavily investing in a small group of players without getting results. “You provided all the sponsorships to those boys, endorsed them, and invested money in them. You gave them captaincies in the PSL, right? You made them the thumb of the Pakistan team. You handed over the entire Pakistan cricket team to those 6 boys and their agents. And what have they done now? The fire they have lit in the jungle, the fun and parties they have had, the pockets they have filled, the enjoyment they have had… they haven’t given Pakistan any wins by doing so,” he added.

‘PCB looks weak, players not accountable’

Shehzad also slammed the players for not taking responsibility and said the board appears powerless in front of them. “Such is the audacity (of the players) that even today, they are not ready to admit that we are responsible. Not a single one of those players. Even today, they play the blame game. Even today, their ego is such that it isn’t breaking. So weak is the Pakistan Cricket Board now,” he said.He concluded with a harsh take on PCB’s functioning, adding, “Whenever you talk about any player, they start spinning stories. I have never seen the Pakistan Cricket Board this weak in my life, as weak as this PCB is. They have power, right? But in their decision-making, they appear to be kneeling before their players. This PCB can’t do anything. The work they were supposed to do — bringing in new faces — they didn’t. What they do is, after every event, they try to pull a new trick, but the public has now caught their pattern.

‘Riot-like conditions’: Rahul Gandhi targets BJP over Delhi Eid violence fear; HC orders police to amp up security | India News

'Riot-like conditions': Rahul Gandhi targets BJP over Delhi Eid violence fear; HC orders police to amp up security

NEW DELHI: Leader of opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi accused Bharatiya Janata Party-led government in Delhi of orchestrating a “riot-like” situation in the national capital, referring to the fear of violence on Eid after Uttam Nagar Tarun murder case. Moreover, Delhi high court issued directions to the police to make adequate arrangements in Uttam Nagar area on Eid and continue it till Ram Navami.“Bloodshed is what only the BJP and its ecosystem desire, which seizes every opportunity to bake the bread of violence on the griddle of hatred. They want the country to remain entangled in Hindu-Muslim strife, so that people cannot ask why on earth the Prime Minister is compelled to hand over the nation’s defence, energy security, food security, and strategic sovereignty to America – and that is precisely why, in broad daylight, riot-like conditions are once again being engineered in the country’s capital,” Rahul said in a post on X on Thursday.“The people of Uttam Nagar have paid a heavy price for the violence – on one side, a young man, Tarun, has lost his life, and on the other, an entire family is facing persecution. They want no more bloodshed,” he added. He further appealed to the Delhi residents to not to fall for BJP’s “provocation”.“An appeal to the residents of Delhi: do not fall for any provocation – the strength of our nation lies in our unity, brotherhood, and love. Connect the connections, unite India,” he said.High court’s directions came after a PIL was filed regarding concerns over possible violence during Eid in the Uttam Nagar area. The petitioner, citing alleged threats, requested directions to the Delhi Police and district administration to take preventive measures. The plea also refers to a Holi incident in Uttam Nagar in which a 26-year-old was allegedly beaten to death by members of a particular community.Tarun, around 26 years old, was allegedly beaten to death after a neighbourhood dispute between two families from different religious communities in Uttam Nagar escalated. The plea said that although the initial incident in Uttam Nagar was local, it was later widely communalised through the spread of inflammatory content, mobilisation of crowds, and organisation of protests such as “Akrosh Sabhas.” It alleged that these gatherings featured provocative speeches inciting violence against the Muslim community, including slogans promoting extrajudicial killings, economic boycott, and social exclusion. According to the plea, this has created a climate of fear and heightened risk to life and property, especially with Eid approaching, as some speeches have explicitly called for preventing Muslims from celebrating the festival.“The ‘ultimatum’ given in several hate speeches for extrajudicial police encounter of the accused persons in the Tarun murder case, and full punitive demolitions of their houses, has further led to clarion calls of not allowing Eid celebrations in Uttam Nagar and making the Muslims cry like that of Tarun’s family,” the plea said.“It is also submitted that this has created a very high chance of riots or other disturbances being caused on the day of Eid, especially with the circulation of online posters and messages calling for the celebration of Holi in Uttam Nagar on the day of Eid. It is likely that further hateful and provocative speeches will be made targeting the ‘particular community’, since it is in continuation of the already criminal narrative in the public sphere,” the plea added.

India Energy Data National Security: Gulf crisis: Government classifies energy data as national security matter; seeks real-time updates across oil, gas sector

Gulf crisis: Government classifies energy data as national security matter; seeks real-time updates across oil, gas sector

The Centre has classified key energy data as a matter of national security and directed all entities across India’s oil and gas value chain to submit detailed operational information, as the government moves to tighten oversight of supplies disrupted by the ongoing Middle East war.The oil ministry has issued the Petroleum and Natural Gas (Furnishing of Information) Order, 2026, requiring refiners, LNG importers, pipeline operators, city gas distributors and petrochemical firms across both public and private sectors to regularly report granular data to the Petroleum Planning and Analysis Cell (PPAC), in some cases on a daily basis.

New order seeks real-time view of India’s energy supply chain

The March 18 gazette notification mandates disclosure of data such as production, imports, stock levels and consumption patterns. The order is aimed at creating a centralised, real-time information system that would allow the government to respond faster to supply disruptions, prioritise critical sectors such as power, fertilisers and household LPG, and make better procurement decisions during crises.Officials cited by news agency PTI said that the initiative is designed to improve India’s ability to monitor supply chains, manage inventories and reduce vulnerability to geopolitical shocks.

Move comes amid war-driven supply stress

The order comes against the backdrop of heightened energy security concerns after the war in the Middle East disrupted gas and LPG supplies.India imports around 88 per cent of its crude oil, 50 per cent of its natural gas and 60 per cent of its LPG.Before the conflict, more than half of India’s crude oil imports came from Saudi Arabia, Iraq and the UAE via the Strait of Hormuz. 85-95 per cent of LPG imports and about 30 per cent of gas supplies also moved through the strait. With the Strait effectively shut due to the war, India’s energy flows have been hit. While crude oil disruptions have been partly cushioned through alternate sourcing from Russia, West Africa, the US and Latin America, gas and LPG supplies to industrial and commercial users have been curtailed because of shortfalls from Gulf suppliers.

Who must report and what data must be shared

The order has a wide scope and applies across the petroleum and natural gas ecosystem.According to PTI, it covers crude oil producers and importers, oil refining companies, oil marketing firms, storage and terminal operators, natural gas producers, LNG importers and terminal operators, gas pipeline operators, gas marketers, city gas distribution entities, petrochemical plants using gas or petroleum products as feedstock, and any public or private entity forming part of the oil and gas supply chain. The notification states, “Every entity engaged in the production, processing, refining, storage, transportation, import, export, marketing, distribution or consumption of petroleum products or natural gas… shall furnish to PPAC, information relating to production, imports, exports, stocks, storage, allocation, transportation, supply, consumption and utilisation of petroleum products or natural gas, aggregated or disaggregated by geography, time or consumers as may be specified”. The government has also left the reporting format flexible.“The information shall be furnished in such form, manner, electronic platform and periodicity as may be specified by the Central government or by PPAC and may include daily, weekly, monthly or other periodic returns,” the order said.

Confidentiality clauses will not apply

One of the most significant parts of the order is that it overrides confidentiality protections. The notification makes it clear that companies cannot refuse to share information by citing commercial sensitivity or proprietary concerns.“The obligation to furnish information under this order shall apply notwithstanding anything contained in any contract, agreement, commercial arrangement or confidentiality obligation and no entity shall refuse to furnish information required under this notification on the ground that such information is commercially sensitive or proprietary,” the order said.

Legal backing under Essential Commodities Act

The ministry has invoked powers under the Essential Commodities Act, 1955 to issue the order. The law allows the central government to require any person producing, importing, exporting, stocking or dealing in an essential commodity to provide information on production, supply, distribution, stocks or utilisation. The government said it considers the new system necessary in the public interest to build a centralised institutional mechanism for the systematic collection, compilation and analysis of petroleum and natural gas data for effective monitoring of the supply chain.

Tighter compliance burden for industry

Industry players will now have to upgrade their internal data systems and reporting processes to comply with the tighter framework. The order signals a broader shift in how the government is approaching energy security. Beyond securing alternate supplies, the Centre is now placing equal emphasis on real-time visibility across the chain, from imports and storage to allocation and final consumption, as it prepares for prolonged volatility in global energy markets.

‘Cautious stand’: Tharoor breaks from Congress’ stance; backs govt on Middle East crisis | India News

'Cautious stand': Tharoor breaks from Congress' stance; backs govt on Middle East crisis

NEW DELHI: Congress MP Shashi Tharoor on Thursday yet again took a different stand from his party and rest of the opposition and came in support of the Centre for its stand on the ongoing US-Israel and Iran conflict in the Middle East.Speaking to news agency PTI, Tharoor said that he understands the government’s desire to take a cautious stand on the conflict and hoped that it could make a public call to both sides to end the war quickly. However, Tharoor said that India should have condemned the assassination of Ayatollah Khamenei in a US-Israel strike. “I don’t know about condemning it, but we should certainly have condoled it. After all (he was) the spiritual leader of a country with which he have friendly relations,” the Congress leader said. “It would have been appropriate, the day it happened, for us to express public condolences and share the grief of his loved ones and of his nation just as two years ago when president Raisi was killed in a helicopter crash, we immediately issued a condolence as well as announced national mourning,” he added. The Thiruvananthapuram MP said that the moment the Iranian embassy opened the condolence book, foreign secretary Vikram Misri went and signed the book, which was a “good thing”, he said.“But I guess we could have been a bit more… it is simply the courteous thing to do for any country. For example, the president of some faraway country, with which we do not even have such a close relation, were to be such a victim, it would be odd for us not to offer condolences,” Tharoor said.“But apart from that, I think I understand the government’s desire to take, for the lack of a better word, a cautious stand,” he said.Tharoor also said that a good group of countries not party to the conflict on either side could go to both sides and ask them to call off the conflict, and India should be at the forefront of this.Tharoor said that India has enormous stakes in what is going on and its energy security is dependent on the situation in the Gulf, including its LPG and LNG imports.“We have 9 million of our citizens living there, which are an important source of remittances, and their safety and well-being is naturally a priority, there are investments coming to us from countries like the UAE and Saudi Arabia, and we have very important overall trade relations as well as political interest and security cooperation, all of that,” Tharoor said.“You don’t want to see that jeopardised. So for us, peace and stability in the Middle East-West Asia is extremely important,” he added. This comes as the opposition attacked the Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his government for its “silence” on the assassination of Khamenei, saying “a compromised prime minister no doubt wants to avoid antagonising his American and Israeli friend”.Condemning the assassination, the opposition said that India condemned Iran’s attacks on Gulf states but was “completely quiet” on the US-Israeli assault on Iran on Iran in the first place.Earlier this month, the Congress had staged a walkout in the Rajya Sabha and protested in the Lok Sabha to express its dissatisfaction with the statement of External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on the West Asia situation in both Houses of Parliament. The party had termed Jaishankar’s statement “vapid” and alleged that PM Narendra Modi’s foreign policy “(mis)adventurism”, coupled with the government’s “undermining” of the Indian Foreign Service, is pushing India into “vassalage”.Making a suo motu statement in Parliament, Jaishankar had said New Delhi stood for maintaining the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all states in the region. He defended allowing the Iranian ship to dock at an Indian port as the right decision taken on humanitarian grounds.

Kristin Cabot: Viral kiss cam scandal fallout: Kristin Cabot speaks out on betrayal, backlash, and life after the Coldplay moment, “I have to keep explaining and justifying” |

Kristin Cabot still feels the sting from that one awkward moment on the kiss cam at a Coldplay concert last summer. Caught hugging her boss, Astronomer CEO Andy Byron, during the July 2025 show in Massachusetts, she watched her life unravel fast. Frontman Chris Martin joked onstage about a possible affair, and the clip exploded online, bringing scrutiny, harassment, even death threats that left her kids scared to be seen with her.

Cutting ties over trust

In her latest chat on The Oprah Podcast, released March 17, 2026, Cabot revealed she cut ties with Byron last fall. “There was a big miss on honesty and integrity,” she told Oprah Winfrey. “He wasn’t the person he represented himself to be, to me, and lying is a non-negotiable for me”. When pressed on whether Byron lied about his marriage, she held back to protect his privacy. “I wanna be really careful, because the world spoke for me and on my behalf, and I don’t wanna do that to somebody else and their family,” Cabot said. Still, she added, “A lot of what was represented to me was not true”

Facing fallout

The imbalance hits hard, after the scandal, Andy Byron was spotted with his wife, rings on, while staying silent. Here, Kristen Cabot feels abandoned. “I was left holding the bag, and I don’t, you know, being the one that was attacked for this and he’s remained silent, to me, that’s not a quality that I would look for in a friend or a partner or a boss,” she shared with Winfrey. “So we have no relationship now” .She owns her role but questions the punishment. “I own the poor decision that I made in that moment, and I’ve paid an unimaginable price for that,” Cabot said, noting every detail of her appearance got ripped apart online. Byron fields job offers; she struggles to get hired, deemed “unemployable.” “I think he has the luxury of staying silent, and he can go back to work when he’s ready. I don’t,” she explained. “I have to explain and explain and justify”Through it all, Cabot learned about empathy in a meme-driven world. “I can’t stay silent and accept what has happened,” she told Oprah. “And I do feel like it’s important that people understand the real story and also how harmful it is to just make assumptions and judge”. Her story reminds us one clip doesn’t define a person, but the internet sure tries.

WATCH: Shivam Dube recalls hilarious train trip to Mumbai following T20 World Cup 2026 victory

In the high-octane world of international cricket, World Cup winners are usually greeted with private jets, red carpets, and high-security motorcases. However, following India’s historic T20 World Cup 2026 triumph at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, star all-rounder Shivam Dube proved that even national heroes sometimes have to rely on the Indian Railways to get home. In a recently surfaced interview with Sambhavna Seth, Dube and his wife, Anjum Khan, shared a hilarious, human account of their undercover journey from Ahmedabad to Mumbai.

Shivam Dube recounts a light-hearted train journey experience after lifting T20 World Cup 2026

With flights back to the city entirely sold out due to the post-final rush, Dube found himself in a relatable dilemma: he was desperate to get home but had no way to fly. Opting for practicality over prestige, the power-hitter booked a ticket on the Sayajigunj Express. To avoid the inevitable mob of ecstatic fans, Dube resorted to some classic cloak and dagger tactics, sneaking onto the platform just as the train pulled in and immediately scrambling into the upper berth of a 3-tier AC coach.

The highlights of the trip involved a close call with a suspicious Ticket Collector (TC). When the TC questioned if the man hidden in the blankets was indeed the World Cup winner, Dube didn’t skip a beat, replying in Hindi: “Woh thodi na aayega. Aap kya baat kar rahe ho” (Why would he be here? What are you even saying?). The ruse was further aided by a fellow passenger who unknowingly defended Dube’s anonymity, claiming the cricketer would surely be busy partying rather than sitting in a third-class compartment.

Here’s the video:

Dube’s impactful finisher role in India’s 2026 campaign

While the train journey was light-hearted, Dube’s performance throughout the T20 World Cup 2026 was anything but casual. Transitioning from a promising talent to a cold-blooded finisher, Dube was the X-factor that allowed India to dominate the middle and death overs. His ability to dismantle spin a hallmark of his game proved vital on the varying pitches of the tournament, providing the necessary bridge between the top-order anchors and the lower-order hitters.

In the final against a formidable bowling attack, Dube’s composure was the difference-maker. His knack for clearing the ropes with minimal effort ensured that India maintained a high strike rate even during the pressure-cooker moments of the knockout stages. Beyond his batting, his utility as a medium-pacer gave the captain crucial flexibility, often breaking partnerships just when the opposition looked threatening.

Upon reaching Mumbai, the stealth mission finally required professional backup. To navigate the growing crowds at the station, Dube sought assistance from the local police, who provided a discreet escort to ensure the World Cup hero made it home safely. It was a fittingly chaotic end to a whirlwind 24 hours, going from the loudest stadium in the world to a quiet upper berth, and finally, back to the arms of a celebrating city.
