Unite to face West Asia crisis, PM tells CMs; urges to boost people’sconfidence
PM meeting CMs on West Asia crisis

NEW DELHI: With the war in West Asia set to enter its fifth week and with no early sign of resolution, PM Modi asked states Friday to ensure the confidence of people remained strong as there are adequate stocks of essential commodities. While he focused on preparing for prolonged disruption of supply lines, Modi also conveyed assurance about the country being in good stead, saying “efforts…in recent years to strengthen India’s economic and supply systems have proved beneficial”. In his virtual meeting with CMs — except those of Assam, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Kerala and Puducherry where assembly polls are due next month — on Friday, PM Modi said while addressing a challenge is a shared responsibility.“We, working together as Team India, will successfully overcome the situation,” an official release quoted him as saying during the meeting. Modi said timely communication of accurate and credible information would help prevent panic. At the meeting, Modi stressed advance planning for keeping fertilisers available for the forthcoming Kharif season and called for continuing engagement with industry and MSMEs, some of which are already under strain because of the uncertainty regarding raw materials. The PM called for special attention in border and coastal states to address any emerging challenges related to shipping, essential supplies, and essential operations. He said states also needed to focus on long-term preparedness — promoting biofuels, solar energy, GOBARdhan initiative, electric mobility, and expansion of PNG connections. The PM said states with citizens in West Asia should activate helplines, appoint nodal officers, and establish district-level support systems to assist affected families and ensure timely flow of information.According to the release, the states appreciated PM’s engagements with different countries to ensure the well-being of Indian citizens abroad. Defence minister Rajnath Singh detailed the steps taken by Centre to ensure timely availability of LPG, while cabinet secretary T V Somanathan gave a presentation on the situation, and steps taken by the Centre as well as the ones that states needed to take.

IPL 2026 | Abhishek, Sooryavanshi changing T20 game; GT batter has a different plan | Cricket News

IPL 2026 | Abhishek, Sooryavanshi changing T20 game; GT batter has a different plan
Sai Sudharsan (Image credit: GT/IPL)

The T20 game has evolved rapidly. With swashbuckling openers like Abhishek Sharma, young talent Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, Priyansh Arya and others making an impact, the format has taken a more aggressive turn. Batters now often walk in with one clear intent — to hit the ball out of the park. However, for Sai Sudharsan, versatility remains more important than chasing high strike rates heading into IPL 2026.“I think it is important to have that versatility. It is important to look at it that way rather than just looking at just I want to improve my strike rate. Rather than that, I think I am looking to be more versatile.”

IPL 2026: Mukesh Kumar on Shami’s influence & India comeback plans

“I think it depends so much on the conditions. It depends so much on a lot of variables. Yes, they (Abhishek, Sanju Samson, Sooryavanshi) have done a brilliant job. And as batters, we would love to and especially I would love to learn from that. And I would love to up my bar as well for sure.”“If the wicket is really good, yes, we will also have to do that (up the strike-rate). But if the wicket is tacky, if the wicket is a little difficult, we will have to be versatile enough to adapt to that as well. I think I am focusing a lot more on being versatile and taking the innings longer and making the team win.”Sudharsan won the ‘Orange Cap’ with 759 runs at a strike rate of around 145 in the last IPL season.‘Gill a trustworthy person’Having opened the batting with Shubman Gill for several years now, Sudharsan has developed strong mutual trust with the Gujarat Titans captain and feels comfortable discussing his thoughts and mental state with him.“Shubman as a skipper is a very trustworthy person. He makes you feel that you belong to the team. He keeps you in a very good place.

Poll

Do you believe versatility is more important than a high strike rate in T20 cricket?

“He is very instinctive. He knows what you are feeling. Most of the times, when I was feeling something in my mind, he used to tell me, ‘I understand what you are feeling but you are there.“At times, he would tell me something to make me feel a bit more positive or make me feel a bit more grounded. I think he is one of the great captains I have played under,” Sudharsan said, leaving no doubt about Gill’s leadership.

Students file fraud plaint against Bandra arch college | Mumbai News

Mumbai: Students of Dr Baliram Hiray College of Architecture in Bandra, who took admission to BSc/BVov (Interior Design), from five batches beginning 2021-22 filed complaints with Bandra police alleging academic fraud, institutional misrepresentation, economic offence, discrepancies in academic records, lack of transparency and mental harassment by college authorities. The first batch of students was told the course was affiliated to Sangai University in Manipur, which was derecognised in 2024. Students claimed they had no idea about the derecognition and cleared their final year in 2025. They were made to wait for their marksheets and degrees since then. Last month, they were told the degrees will be granted by Sikkim International University. Students said this university, too, was on the UGC defaulter list. Despite repeated attempts, the college failed to give them proof of affiliation. On March 14, the first batch students finally got their marksheets but with incorrect details, marks shuffled and key subjects like dissertation removed, citing that the university doesn’t offer those subjects. College officials did not respond to TOI’s message.

Elon Musk joined Trump’s call with PM Modi on Iran war earlier this week: Report | India News

Elon Musk joined Trump's call with PM Modi on Iran war earlier this week: Report

Elon Musk participated in a phone call on Tuesday between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and US President Donald Trump, an unusual instance of a private citizen joining a discussion between two heads of state during an ongoing geopolitical crisis, reported New York Times. The inclusion of Musk, confirmed by US officials, comes months after a reported fallout between him and Trump following his exit from a government role. Recent developments suggest ties between the two have improved. The conversation focused on the evolving situation in West Asia, with both leaders emphasising the importance of keeping the Strait of Hormuz open, secure and accessible. The key maritime corridor handles a significant share of global oil shipments and remains critical to international energy markets. However, it remains unclear why Musk was included in the call or whether he spoke. His companies have investments linked to Middle Eastern sovereign wealth funds, and he has been seeking greater commercial opportunities in India.US ambassador to India Sergio Gor said the leaders discussed regional tensions and the strategic need to ensure uninterrupted movement through the Strait. In a post on X, PM Modi said India supports de-escalation and early restoration of peace, adding that both sides agreed to remain in touch regarding efforts towards stability. According to the Indian readout, he also highlighted that safe passage through the Strait is vital for global economic well-being.The call came a day after Trump announced a five-day pause on potential US strikes on Iranian facilities, raising hopes of easing hostilities. It also coincided with reports that Washington may send Vice President JD Vance to Pakistan for talks with Iranian officials.Separately, external affairs minister S Jaishankar discussed the conflict and its implications for global markets and India’s energy security with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio. India has also remained in touch with Iran to facilitate the movement of Indian vessels, some of which remain near the Strait despite recent passage granted to others.Jaishankar also met Iran’s ambassador to India, Mohammad Fathali, conveying India’s concerns and thanking Tehran for its support to Indian nationals. India has not officially responded to Trump’s delaying of military action on Iranian energy installations with the MEA only saying the government is closely monitoring developments related to the conflict. Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said Tuesday both Modi and Jaishankar are stressing in their engagements that peace can be restored only through dialogue and diplomacy. Like many of US’ European allies, India had shown little interest in joining a US-led naval coalition to keep Strait of Hormuz open.

RCB’s big changes ahead of IPL: New rules, tribute & squad update

“As you would have seen, there were multiple international parties interested in the teams through the process. It is great validation for the IPL and WPL’s success to date and their promise and trajectory ahead. Many of these investors see the IPL as the highest growth sports opportunity around the world today,” Gajwani, RCB’s new co-owner, told news agency PTI.Gajwani is part of the consortium comprising Aditya Birla Group, Times Group, David Blitzer’s Bolt Group and American Private Equity firm Blackstone, which bought a 100 percent stake in RCB for $1.78 billion (Rs 16,600 crore). On the same day, the Rajasthan Royals were acquired by a consortium of US-based entrepreneur Kal Somani, Walmart owner Rob Walton, who also owns NFL team Denver Broncos and Sheila Ford Hemp (related to Ford group), who is the principal owner of Detroit Lions for $1.63 billion. For many, RCB’s $1.78 billion has been considered a ‘steal’, especially with RR going for $1.63 billion.“The media has reported the value to be a ‘steal’ of sorts given the pricing,” Gajwani said.“Pricing is always subjective. It is a strong price for a strong franchise, and I think both the buyers and sellers are happy with the outcome,” he continued. Gajwani revealed that the Times Group was also interested in acquiring Rajasthan Royals.“Yes, we evaluated both franchises closely. They are different and have their sets of pros and cons. We are extremely happy with the outcome of the process.”‘Once deal is complete, we will have discussions with Virat’For the past 18 seasons, Kohli has been integral to RCB’s identity and Gajwani understands that. Once the new owners take over, they plan to hold extensive discussions with the legendary former India and franchise skipper to understand his goals going forward.“Virat is an iconic player, and we’re grateful to be able to partner with him. When the deal finally gets completed, I am sure we will have close conversations with him and his team to understand their goals and objectives, and how we can collaboratively drive success for all involved,” the vice-chairman commented.

Lucknow Super Giants IPL 2026 Full Schedule: Date, Time & Venues of LSG matches

Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) will begin their IPL 2026 journey with a home fixture against Delhi Capitals (DC) on April 1 at the Ekana Stadium. With a new-look squad, all eyes will be on how captain Rishabh Pant shapes the team’s identity right from the opening game.

This season signals a new chapter for LSG. Under Pant’s leadership, the franchise has undergone several key changes, strengthening both their batting and bowling departments. The additions of Mitchell Marsh and Mohammad Shami bring experience and versatility, while the pace duo of Anrich Nortje and Mayank Yadav adds serious firepower. In the spin department, Wanindu Hasaranga offers wicket-taking ability, giving LSG a well-rounded bowling attack. Alongside established names like Nicholas Pooran and Aiden Markram, the squad appears balanced and competitive.

LSG will enjoy strong home support this season, with seven matches scheduled at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium. After their opener against DC, they will host Gujarat Titans (GT), Rajasthan Royals (RR), Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB), Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Punjab Kings (PBKS). Playing a majority of matches at home gives LSG a great opportunity to build consistency, especially if they can adapt well to the conditions in Lucknow.

LSG will also need to adjust to afternoon conditions in two matches this season. They travel to Hyderabad to face Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on April 5 and later host GT on April 12, with both games starting at 3:30 PM IST. Afternoon matches often demand different strategies due to heat and pitch behaviour, making preparation key.

With a new captain, a strengthened squad, and a schedule that balances opportunity with challenge, LSG will be aiming to make a strong statement in IPL 2026. If they can navigate the early away stretch and capitalize on their home advantage, they have the potential to emerge as serious contenders this season.

IPL 2026: Defending champions RCB begin title defence against SRH at Chinnaswamy | Cricket News

IPL 2026: Defending champions RCB begin title defence against SRH at Chinnaswamy

BENGALURU: Until June 3, 2025, Royal Challengers Bengaluru carried the tag of underachievers — a team that spent 17 previous seasons chasing an elusive trophy. On a muggy night in Ahmedabad, that narrative finally shifted. Built less on individual stardom and more on collective performances, RCB shed their long-standing baggage and got the monkey off their backs. When they return to the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Saturday evening, they do so with a title to defend, a reputation to protect and expectations recalibrated. Against fellow southerners Sunrisers Hyderabad, RCB begin their campaign as defending champions — a feat only Chennai Super Kings and Mumbai Indians have managed to follow up with a successful title defence.

RCB’s big changes ahead of IPL: New rules, tribute & squad update

While it is a long season ahead, a strong start will be crucial. Chinnaswamy hasn’t always been a fortress for RCB, and against an SRH side packed with explosive batters, the challenge is immediate. On paper, the two teams share striking similarities. Both boast formidable batting units, both are without their premier Australian quicks, and they will rely on a blend of experienced Indian names and promising youngsters. The conditions only add to the intrigue. The last completed IPL game at the venue last season — RCB’s clash against CSK — saw a staggering 424 runs scored, with the hosts defending 215 by just two runs. If the surface stays true to its batting-friendly reputation, bowlers from both sides could be in for a long evening.RCB have largely retained the core that delivered their maiden title, using the mini-auction to plug specific gaps. The additions of Venkatesh Iyer and England’s Jordan Cox bring flexibility, while young Indian recruits like Mangesh Yadav and Vihaan Malhotra add depth and future promise.Their batting remains their biggest strength. With Virat Kohli and Phil Salt expected to set the tone at the top, Jacob Bethell’s recent form adds another dynamic layer. The middle order is stacked with experience and firepower in Rajat Patidar, Devdutt Padikkal, Jitesh Sharma, Tim David and Venkatesh Iyer. The team management, in fact, faces the enviable headache of narrowing down a balanced playing XI.However, the absence of Josh Hazlewood — their most impactful bowler last season — could be a significant setback. The Australian pacer, still working his way back from injury concerns, only rejoined the squad on Thursday and will sit out of the match. His absence puts the onus on Bhuvneshwar Kumar to lead the attack, especially in conditions that traditionally offer little margin for error. RCB are also without Sri Lankan quick Nuwan Thushara, who is yet to clear the fitness test in his home country. In Hazlewood’s absence, New Zealand pacer Jacob Duffy could be handed an IPL debut. He is expected to slot into an otherwise Indian-heavy bowling unit, with youngsters Mangesh Yadav and Rasikh Dar pushing for inclusion. The spin department, featuring Krunal Pandya and Suyash Sharma, will also have a key role in controlling the middle overs.SRH, meanwhile, look equally formidable with the bat. Led by Ishan Kishan, they have a destructive line-up comprising Abhishek Sharma, Travis Head, Heinrich Klaasen and Nitish Reddy. However, their bowling appears relatively undercooked in the absence of regular skipper Pat Cummins, even though they can call upon the experience of Harshal Patel, Brydon Carse and Jaydev Unadkat.Away from the on-field contest, it will be a sombre homecoming for RCB. The players will wear black armbands in memory of the 11 lives lost in the stampede during last year’s title celebrations — a tragedy that continues to cast a shadow over the team and the venue.
