Stock market crash today: Nifty50 and BSE Sensex plunged in opening trade on Monday. Nifty50 opened the trading day below 22,500 and BSE Sensex dropped over 1,100 points. At 9:16 AM, Nifty50 was trading at 22,488.20, down 331 points or 1.45%. BSE Sensex was at 72,477.66, down 1,106 points or 1.50%.Dr. VK Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist, Geojit Investments Limited says, “With the conflict in West Asia entering the fifth week, there are signs of escalation of the war with the Houthi’s joining the conflict and the US sending additional troops to reinforce the attack. Brent crude has again shot up to $116. The Goldilocks macro scenario which India had before the war has almost disappeared thanks to the war. Instead of high GDP growth, low inflation, moderate fiscal and current account deficits and expectations of higher corporate earnings growth in FY27, now we face prospects of lower GDP growth, higher inflation, higher fiscal and current account deficits and lower earnings growth for FY27.”The market has largely discounted these negatives as reflected in the decline in the Nifty trailing PE ratio to about 19.9 times. This is fair but not yet cheap valuations. But there are segments which are attractively valued like financials. A significant development today is likely to be strengthening of the rupee in response to the RBI directive capping the net open position (NOP- INR) in the offshore deliverable market at $100 million. Unwinding of large dollar positions will strengthen the rupee in the near-term.”US markets witnessed a sharp selloff last week. All three major indices closed at their lowest levels in more than seven months on Friday, and the Dow officially entered correction territory as the ongoing conflict in the Middle East dampened investor sentiment.Asian equities came under pressure while crude oil prices moved higher amid escalating tensions, with Iran-backed Houthi forces joining the conflict and an expanded US military presence raising fears of a prolonged standoff.Foreign institutional investors remained net sellers, offloading shares worth Rs 4,367.30 crore on Friday. In contrast, domestic institutional investors provided some support by purchasing equities worth Rs 3,566.15 crore.(Disclaimer: Recommendations and views on the stock market, other asset classes or personal finance management tips given by experts are their own. Mumbai man evicted from 70-year-old dad’s flat 10 months after tribunal order | Mumbai News

MUMBAI: Nearly 10 months after a Parents and Senior Citizens’ Tribunal directed a man to vacate his 70-year-old father’s suburban apartment that he had been forcibly occupying for years, police, in the presence of an officer from the tehsildar’s office, evicted him recently. The tribunal’s order had come in May 2025, but the son continued to occupy his father’s property even thereafter. Police then wrote back to the tribunal which appointed an officer from the Borivli tehsildar’s office to oversee the process of vacating the flat. In Dec 2024, the septuagenarian had approached the tribunal. He stated that his elder son, who had moved in with him about a decade ago, harassed and threatened him. After lodging a non-cognisable complaint with the police, his son moved out. The senior citizen decided to rent out his apartment so he could raise money to fund his medical expenses. But his son threatened the tenant and eventually took forcible possession of the property in 2023 after the tenant left.In his submission before the tribunal, the son said he had never stopped his father from entering the house andthat he was within his rights to live there as it was his childhood home. He made counter-allegations of harassment against his father. The father-son had lodged multiple non-cognisable complaints against each other over the past decade and a civil suit is also on.After examining documents and submissions from both parties, the tribunal observed that the apartment was legally owned by the senior citizen and his son should vacate it within one month. The son was also given instructions to not do anything to the detriment of his father’s physical and mental health and pay him a monthlymaintenance of Rs 5,000. The tribunal further ruled that if the son did not comply with the instructions, his father could go to police, who were instructed to provide help to the senior citizen under the Maharashtra Maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Rules, 2010.Police served a copy of the tribunal’s order on the son. In an email to the police station in Nov 2025, the son said he had approached Bombay high court which had directed him to approach Dindoshi sessions court. Police wrote to the tribunal, which appointed an officer from the Borivli tehsildar’s office to evict the son.

Built for the akhara: Inside Ram Charan’s pehelwan overhaul | Telugu Movie News

Four months after the Chikiri Chikiri song previously established Ram Charan as a rural cricketer, the latest glimpse of Peddi reveals a different side of the character. Training in the rain with a heavy wooden gada, the actor has unvieled the bulked-up frame of a pehelwan.Speaking exclusively to Hyderabad Times, director Buchi Babu Sana detailed the training process behind the actor’s new look. “He put in immense effort, training every day for almost eight months to achieve the physique we envisioned for a pehelwan. That level of discipline extended beyond training — while observing Ayyappa deeksha, Ram Charan followed a strict vegetarian diet and steered clear of non-vegetarian food,” he shares. Central to this physical overhaul is the gada, a traditional heavy wooden club used by wrestlers. “Every pehelwan uses a mugdar for training. In Peddi, his character shares a strong connection with the gada, which he uses as part of his workouts,” Sana explains. “He trained extensively with it, and the fight sequences incorporate that, along with elements like mud and traditional wrestling setups.” While the pivot from the cricket field to the akhara has left everyone guessing about the character’s primary discipline, the director remains elusive. “He plays a sportsman. What sport he excels in will be revealed in theatres, but wrestling forms a major part of the film,” he says, signing off.

RR vs CSK, IPL 2026: Probable XI for Match 3, Barsapara Cricket Stadium T20 Stats and Records

The 2026 IPL season ignites with a high-stakes match as the Rajasthan Royals host the Chennai Super Kings at the Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati. This Match 3 encounter is defined by a landscape-shifting trade that has fundamentally altered both franchises. Sanju Samson, the long-standing heartbeat of the Royals, makes a surreal appearance in CSK yellow, while the legendary Ravindra Jadeja returns to the nursery where his career began under Shane Warne in 2008. Adding a layer of local fervor, Guwahati’s own Riyan Parag steps up as the full-time captain of the Royals, eager to prove his leadership on home soil.

On the opposite side, Ruturaj Gaikwad returns at full fitness to lead a revitalized Chennai squad looking to erase the memories of a lacklustre 2025 campaign. However, the Super Kings face a significant emotional and tactical hurdle: the absence of MS Dhoni. The veteran icon is set to miss the initial two weeks of the 2026 season due to calf strain injury, leaving a void in the lower order and the leadership group. As these two heavyweights clash in the humid Assam air, the narrative of traded icons and missing legends sets the stage for a truly unpredictable thriller.

IPL 2026: No rust despite rest as Kohli does Kohli things | Cricket News

IPL 2026: No rust despite rest as Kohli does Kohli things
Virat Kohli (Image credit: BCCI/IPL)

BENGALURU: Since anchoring Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s maiden IPL title run last season, Virat Kohli has stayed in imperious form. Across nine ODIs and two Vijay Hazare Trophy matches, he has piled up 821 runs, with his lowest score since returning from Australia’s back-toback ducks being 23 against New Zealand in Rajkot. In an era of relentless scheduling, Kohli has largely operated as a one-format (ODI) international. Yet on Saturday night, returning to T20 cricket at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium for the first time since last season’s final, there was no trace of rust.

Greenstone Lobo predicts IPL 2026 winner

The 37-year-old looked in complete rhythm, carrying forward the touch from his last outing — a composed 124 against New Zealand in January — as his unbeaten 69 off 38 balls guided RCB to a six-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad. It was a knock built on controlled aggression, beginning with a crisp boundary off Jaydev Unadkat through mid-off and progressing through calculated acceleration. At the post-match press conference, skipper Rajat Patidar called him the “number one chase master.”Kohli credited his recent ODI run and preparation for the smooth transition.“The way I batted in the One-Day series recently helped me stay in that momentum. I’ve put enough work physically behind the scenes with my fitness. As long as I had rhythm, things would come together nicely,” said Kohli, RCB’s top scorer last season with 657 runs.He also highlighted the importance of breaks in a packed calendar.“With the amount of cricket I’ve played over the last 15 years, there was always a risk of burnout rather than being undercooked. These breaks help me stay fresh and excited. Whenever I come back, it’s 120%,” the opener said.Fitness remains the foundation“As long as you’re physically fit and mentally excited, things fall into place, and you can contribute to the team.”Despite his stature, Kohli stressed that places must be earned.“You don’t want to hold on to a spot. You want to keep performing and keep putting in the work for the team,” he said, after being dropped on 29 by Heinrich Klaasen off Harshal Patel.

US market is doomed without my company, says China’s fourth richest man to America

US market is doomed without my company, says China's fourth richest man to America

The world’s no. 1 battery maker — CATL — has a message for America: You cannot make Electric Vehicles (EVs) without China. Chinese battery giant CATL, formally known as Contemporary Amperex Technology, is the largest EV battery producer in the world. At second position, after CATL, is another Chinese company BYD. As some lawmakers in the US want to block automakers from using Chinese batteries, Chinese companies seem unfazed and are reportedly saying: Good Luck with that, Hahaha. The general conclusion in the Chinese battery industry, led by CATL, is that the US auto market is going to suffer and lag others due to these protectionist efforts. Robin Zeng, founder of CATL and China’s fourth richest person, strongly believes that the US market is doomed without his company. As around a third of the world’s new EVs had CATL batteries in 2025. Also, BYD, the world’s no. 1 EV car company produces its own batteries.

America’s ‘problem with Chinese batteries

According to a recent report in Wall Street Journal (WSJ), critics of China argue that embedding a Chinese battery maker in the US supply chain would make the country even more vulnerable to Beijing’s economic coercion and undercut the chances of American battery companies catching up. In 2025, America placed the battery maker CATL on a Pentagon list of companies working with China’s military. On its part, CATL calls this designation “erroneous”.While the designation does not involve immediate bans on the Chinese companies added to this list, it is seen as a blow to the reputations of affected companies and represents a stark warning to US entities and firms about the risks of conducting business with them.

What makes CATL dominate EV battery market worldwide

CATL has grown to become the world’s largest electric-vehicle battery manufacturer thanks to its technology and low costs. It posted record profit of more than $10 billion last year, and an estimated one in three EVs sold around the world carries its batteries. The EV market in the U.S. will remain small “for several years. But after that, it’ll have to be booming, because it is the trend. It is the future,” said ZengAlso, CATL’s dominance in the world EV market so far is largely without sales in the US and Europe, where electric adoption lags behind that in China. Also, like the US in Europe too, CATL’s presence is limited. One of America’s largest auto companies, Ford reportedly recently ditched South Korea’s SK Group as its joint-venture partner for battery projects, focusing instead on its plan to build CATL-designed batteries at a $3 billion factory in Michigan. As per WSJ report, Ford is paying to license the Chinese company’s intellectual property, a workaround that the US allows while it puts up legal and political barriers to prevent CATL from building its own plants.Similarly, General Motors (GM) is reportedly set to import China-made batteries from CATL and put them in its new Chevrolet Bolt. This after swallowing a 60% tariff due to the company’s Chinese origin. GM is selling the Bolt for only one model year while it makes longer-term plans. The report said that GM is paying a hefty tariff to get CATL batteries at a time when two US battery plants GM spent billions of dollars to build are lying idle. The reason is reportedly their inability to make cheaper batteries that the automaker needs for the $30,000 vehicle. Not just this, America’s largest electric car maker Tesla too is using CATL technology for a battery plant in Nevada producing energy-storage systems, a business that is growing strongly while Tesla’s core EV business has stalled.

CATL CEO Robin Zeng is China’s national hero

In China, Zeng is a national tech hero. In 2025, he was invited to meet Chinese PM Xi Jinping. In March 2026, he was invited to Beijing to attend China’s biggest annual political event as an advisory body member. “We will sell our Chinese products globally and at the same time, we will promote our technology and standards worldwide,” he is said to have told reporters at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. Talking of America, Zeng said, “US people all go to chips, software, AI” because “they get a lot of money,” he said. Batteries are considered “a very stupid industry in the US.”

‘RCB will win IPL this year’: Security breach in Bengaluru jail; inmates hide phones in toilet pipes, leak videos | Bengaluru News

In a major security breach at Central Prison, Parappana Agrahara, three undertrial prisoners recorded videos using mobile phones and falsely claimed that Director General of Police (DGP) and Director General, Prisons & Correctional Services, Alok Kumar, had provided the devices to them.

BENGALURU: In a major security breach at Central Prison, Parappana Agrahara, three undertrial prisoners recorded videos using mobile phones and falsely claimed that Director General of Police (DGP) and Director General, Prisons & Correctional Services, Alok Kumar, had provided the devices to them.Preliminary investigation has revealed that the inmates deliberately targeted Alok Kumar in an attempt to demoralise him and derail ongoing measures aimed at curbing illegal activities inside the prison.

RCB’s big changes ahead of IPL: New rules, tribute & squad update

The prisoners allegedly mocked the officer by falsely accusing him of supplying the mobile phones. They also spoke about the IPL match between RCB and SRH on March 28, stating that RCB would win and saying, “eesala nu cup namde” (“This year also, the cup is ours.”)Following the breach, three warders have been placed under suspension on charges of dereliction of duty. According to sources, the videos were recorded on the evening of March 27 and shared with family members and friends. By Saturday morning, the clips had gone viral and were circulated to a regional news portal around 9am, prompting an immediate internal probe.Chief superintendent of Prison Anshu Kumar, along with his team, traced the source of the leak and recovered two mobile phones concealed inside a pipe in a toilet chamber within the prison premises. The devices had been carefully packed in milk packets and hidden in the pipeline.Prison officials identified the undertrial prisoners as Darshan and his younger brother Abhi, both accused in a murder case reported in Hennur Bande around two-and-a-half years ago. The voice heard in the clips is that of another inmate, Zypsin Daniel. Officials said the trio are associated with the Sunkadkatte Rakshit gang.

Barrack shift triggered backlash

According to Alok Kumar, preliminary findings indicate that the videos were recorded after the prison administration initiated a new system of shifting inmates to different barracks based on the alphabetical order of their names. The move aims to break communication links among inmates and prevent coordinated criminal activities.Darshan had been shifted to a quarantine barrack on the evening of March 27 as part of this system. Officials said the video was recorded just minutes before his relocation.Investigators believe the clips were deliberately leaked to the media to derail the reform process, tarnish the image of the prison administration, and demoralise senior officials of the Prison and Correctional Services Department.A complaint was filed at the Parappana Agrahara Police Station on March 28 against the accused inmates. Simultaneously, disciplinary action has been initiated against prison staff for lapses in duty.

Three warders suspended

Warders Niranjan Kamat, Hanumantappa Hadpad, and Shivanand Karlabatti have been suspended for dereliction of duty during the night of March 27 and the morning of March 28, when the mobile phones were allegedly used to record the videos. Action is also being initiated against the jailer who was on supervisory duty at the time, officials said.In a concerning development, authorities also detected active Airtel network signals in certain parts of the prison, raising serious questions about communication loopholes. Officials have issued a warning to the telecom provider to take corrective measures and prevent misuse.Despite the incident, prison authorities asserted that reform measures will continue. “Efforts to streamline and improve prison administration will not be deterred by vested interests attempting to disrupt the system,” a senior official said.
