Bengaluru Professor Suspended After Viral Video Shows Insulting Student as ‘Terrorist’ | Bengaluru News

PES University suspended an adjunct faculty member, Muralidhar Deshpande, after a video surfaced showing him allegedly insulting a minority student

BENGALURU: A video of a faculty insulting a student from a minority community in PES University went viral on Friday, prompting the university to suspend the faculty. Muralidhar Deshpande, an adjunct faculty with the private university in Bengaluru was teaching the class on Thursday. As per the social media post, he called a student terrorist 13 times and made further insults in front of his classmates. As the video went viral, the university suspended him. Jawahar Doreswamy, chancellor, PES University said that they are verifying the authenticity of the video.According to accounts and a video recording from the classroom, Dr Muralidhar Deshpande reacted aggressively, allegedly calling the student a “terrorist” in front of the class.“The moment the class is going on, you come and disturb it. Sharm nahi aati tumko (do you feel no shame)? Useless fellow, terrorist — I will call you terrorist,” the professor is heard shouting in the video.“I thought today I will be very calm,” the professor added.“Kya kha ke aate ho, sharam nahi aati?” he is also heard saying.“Terrorist,” he repeats later in the video, which is marked by significant background noise.“All our classrooms lectures are recorded. We have asked our technical team to check the authenticity of the video. We are verifying to know the truth in the matter. Meanwhile, we have immediately kept the lecturer under suspension. Disciplinary committee will look through the evidence and proceedings have to be initiated against the faculty. Anything like this has never happened in the history of the institution,” he said.“We also have a policy that all faculty members will be trained in the beginning of the year on how to deal with situations inside the classrooms. Sometimes, there could be indiscipline in the classroom, and people can overreact. In this particular case, this faculty member is not full time faculty member, he is an adjunct faculty. We are looking at our protocol on what message is being given to adjunct faculty members. They will also be included in the trainings henceforth,” he said.“This is 100% unacceptable. The faculty has a PhD, it is surprising he has reacted this way. We don’t want to suppress anything. We will take necessary action,” he assured. However, no police complaint has been made yet. City police told TOI that after the video went viral, they approached the college authorities and students, asking them to file a police complaint so that they can take legal action against the professor.

EC relaxes common symbol norm for unrecognised parties | India News

EC relaxes common symbol norm for unrecognised parties

NEW DELHI: The Election Commission, in a move aimed at strengthening the genuine registered unrecognised political parties (RUPPs), on Saturday amended the Election Symbols Order to allow all candidates fielded by RUPPs to use a common symbol, if the party had polled at least 1% of the total valid votes in one of the two previous elections held in a given state. Earlier, the provision allowed this concession a third time only if the RUPP had contested the two previous polls in that state on a common symbol, and polled at least 1% of the valid votes in the last held election. As per Para 10(B) of the Election Symbols (Reservation and Allotment) Order, 1968, a common symbol may be used by all candidates of an RUPP that has previously used this concession at any two Lok Sabha elections, any two assembly elections or a Lok Sabha election and assembly poll in that state, as the party may choose.Sources in EC said the amendment has been made to facilitate RUPPs that had performed well when it used the common symbol concession at the first election but failed to garner a minimum 1% of the valid votes in the subsequent election in the state. “It was felt that they must be given a third chance even if they could meet the 1% voteshare criteria in one of the last two polls contested,” said an EC official.“The idea is to facilitate the genuine RUPPs to participate in the democratic and electoral process. This contrasts with the tough action initiated in the past year against defunct and inactive RUPPs, as part of which a total 808 RUPPs were delisted. The delisting was on grounds of the RUPPs’ failure to honour statutory conditions of their registration, by not contesting elections over the past six years and/or not filing annual financial statements like contribution reports, annual audit reports and expenditure statements, with the Election Commission. RUPPs is entitled to benefits like income-tax exemption concessions, a common poll symbol and preference over Independent candidates in the ballot paper, etc.

‘Welcome to Hell’: Iranian daily’s chilling ‘coffin’ warning to Washington amid US troop buildup

'Welcome to Hell': Iranian daily's chilling 'coffin' warning to Washington amid US troop buildup

The front page of Iran’s English-language newspaper, The Tehran Times, issued a stark warning to Washington following US media reports that the United States may deploy up to 10,000 additional troops to the Middle East.In its Saturday edition, the paper featured the headline “Welcome to Hell,” alongside a message stating that any US troops who enter Iranian territory would “leave only in coffins.”The Tehran Times “warning” came alongside the arrival of around 3,500 Marine soldiers in the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) area of responsibility. CENTCOM oversees America’s military operations across the Middle East. The Marines were transported to the region aboard the USS Tripoli, one of the United States’ largest amphibious assault ships, which deployed from its home base in Japan. The arrival of the Marines has further fuelled speculation that the US may launch an operation to capture Kharg Island — a strategically vital hub that was already targeted earlier this month under Operation Epic Fury, Washington’s ongoing military campaign against Iran.Meanwhile, according to CENTCOM, American forces have carried out strikes against Iran’s military infrastructure, focusing on sites described as posing an “imminent threat” since February 28, when the US and Israel launched joint attacks across Iran, sparking the current conflict. The targets include facilities linked to the powerful Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, air defence systems, missile sites, naval assets, and weapons production infrastructure.CENTCOM also reports that more than 11,000 combat flights have been conducted so far, with over 150 Iranian vessels reportedly damaged or destroyed.

MI vs KKR, IPL 2026, Match Prediction: Who will win today’s game between Mumbai Indians and Kolkata Knight Riders?

The stage is set for a high-octane clash at the iconic Wankhede Stadium as the five-time champions, Mumbai Indians, host the three-time winners, Kolkata Knight Riders, in the second match of IPL 2026. This fixture carries immense history, with MI traditionally dominating the rivalry, though KKR has shown recent signs of breaking the “Wankhede Curse.”

Mumbai Indians enter the 2026 season with a point to prove. Under the leadership of Hardik Pandya, and boasting a core of T20 World Cup winners like Rohit Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav, and Jasprit Bumrah, they are widely considered the most balanced side on paper. The addition of Trent Boult and Deepak Chahar gives them a lethal new-ball pair, while the return of Quinton de Kock strengthens an already terrifying batting lineup.

Kolkata Knight Riders, led by the experienced Ajinkya Rahane, are undergoing a tactical shift. After a disappointing 2025, they’ve invested heavily in all-rounders. The headline acquisition is Cameron Green ($₹25.20$ crore), who will be the linchpin of their middle order. However, KKR faces early-season hurdles with the absence of pacer Harshit Rana (injury) and uncertainty regarding Matheesha Pathirana’s fitness. Their hopes rest on the “Spin Twins,” Sunil Narine and Varun Chakravarthy, to stifle MI’s power-hitters.

MI vs KKR, Head-to-Head Record in IPL

Matches played: 35 | MI won: 24 | KKR won: 11 | No result/Tied: 1

Wankhede Stadium Pitch Report

The Wankhede Stadium pitch for this high-stakes encounter is expected to be a typical batting paradise, characterized by a flat black-soil surface that offers true bounce and allows the ball to come onto the bat beautifully. While a slight green tinge may provide some initial swing for seamers like Jasprit Bumrah in the first few overs, the small boundary dimensions and lightning-fast outfield make it a nightmare for bowlers once the ball softens. A massive factor for this evening game is the heavy dew expected from the 14th over of the second innings onward, which will likely make gripping the ball difficult for spinners and favor the side batting second. Given these conditions, a par score is well above 185, and the captain winning the toss will almost certainly elect to bowl first to capitalize on the easier chasing conditions.

Large crowds took to the streets on Saturday across the United States and parts of Europe in “No Kings” rallies, protesting the war in Iran and the actions of president Donald Trump. From big cities to small towns, people gathered to voice anger over multiple issues, with Minnesota emerging as the centre of the protests. In St Paul, thousands packed the Capitol lawn for the flagship event. Musician Bruce Springsteen headlined the rally and praised residents for resisting a recent surge in immigration enforcement by US authorities. He performed “Streets of Minneapolis,” a song written after the fatal shootings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti by federal agents. Reflecting on the moment, he said, “Your strength and your commitment told us that this was still America… this reactionary nightmare… will not stand.”In Minnesota, the main rally featured Robert De Niro, singer Joan Baez, actor Jane Fonda, and Senator Bernie Sanders. A large banner read, “We had whistles, they had guns. The revolution starts in Minneapolis.” The protests stretched across the country, from New York City to small towns like Driggs with more than 3,100 events registered across all 50 states. Most gatherings remained peaceful, but there were clashes in Los Angeles, where police used tear gas after some protesters threw objects near a federal detention centre. Authorities said arrests were made when people refused to disperse. In Washington, DC, hundreds marched past the Lincoln Memorial to the National Mall, holding signs reading “Put down the crown, clown” and chanting “No kings.”

The rallies drew sharp criticism from Republican leaders. White House spokesperson Abigail Jackson dismissed them as the work of leftist funding networks and said they lacked real public support. The “only people who care about these Trump Derangement Therapy Sessions are the reporters who are paid to cover them,” Jackson said in a statement. The National Republican Congressional Committee also criticised the protests. “These hate America Rallies are where the far-left’s most violent, deranged fantasies get a microphone,” NRCC spokesperson Maureen O’Toole said. The protests were not limited to the US. Demonstrations were held in several countries. In Rome, crowds marched while criticising Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and opposing recent military actions involving Iran. In London, people carried signs reading “Stop the far right” and “Stand up to racism.” In Paris, several hundred people, including Americans living abroad, gathered at the Bastille.

It was expected that the explosive opening pair of Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma – popularly known as Travishek – would set the stage on fire, but that didn’t happen.

Abhishek Sharma, who has been struggling with form, was able to score just 7 runs while his opening partner got out after scoring 11 runs. The young all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy, who was promoted to No.4, disappointed everyone as he scored just one run.

Captain Ishan Kishan, meanwhile, led from the front and blasted 80 runs off 38 balls, with 8 fours and 5 sixes, and he got decent support from Heinrich Klaasen, who scored 31 runs off 22 balls.

In the end, Aniket Verma smashed 43 runs off 18 balls, with three fours and four sixes to power SRH to 201/9.

Defending the target, the SRH bowling unit, which consisted of Eshan Malinga, Harsh Dubey, David Payne, Jaydev Unadkat, Harshal Patel and Nitish Kumar Reddy, looked absolutely clueless against the RCB batters.

They were taken to cleaners by the Royal Challengers Bengaluru batters, and the match finished in no time with SRH suffering a 6-wicket defeat with 26 balls remaining.

I actually enjoyed a lot – Ishan Kishan

During the post-match interaction, Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper Ishan Kishan stated that the pitch played better after the first few overs and urged his bowlers to improve. He stated:

“[Thoughts at halfway mark] The wicket played well after first few overs. We lost early wickets and we have to be careful about it. The wicket got better in the second innings and we have to be a little smarter with the shot selection. [On his bowlers] You have to give credit to the batters. Especially, Virat bhai. It is very important to get his wicket early. We have to work harder and these mistakes are acceptable in the first game but we need to be cautious.”

When asked about his captaincy, Ishan Kishan said that he enjoyed it a lot. He stated:

“[On captaincy] I actually enjoyed a lot. But yeah, it is IPL. Sometimes, nerves are there. If we win the games coming ahead, it would be good for us going ahead in the tournament.”

No words for him – Rajat Patidar on Virat Kohli

During the post-match presentation ceremony, the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) skipper Rajat Patidar said that he was mighty impressed with the way his team played. He said:

“100%! The way the boys played. First of all, it was the season opener. Yes, the way Duffy bowled. He was playing the first game. Abhinandan was also playing his first game. Duffy picked up the wickets of Abhishek and Head.

When asked about Virat Kohli once again finishing the match, Rajat Patidar said he doesn’t have words to define the greatness of the chasemaster. Rajat Patidar stated:

“No words for him (when asked about Virat Kohli). The way, every time he goes in and chases. He is the number one batter. He was there till the end. It was a terrific catch from Phil Salt. He is a very good fielder. I have seen him take such catches. He is an amazing fielder. I was trying to add as much impact with the bat as possible. The look is always there.”

IPL pull grows: PSL commentator named in IPL commentary panel, may exit midway

The Pakistan Super League (PSL) began on Thursday with limited activity around the tournament, as Lahore Qalandars defeated Hyderabad Kingsmen by 69 runs at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore. The match was played without spectators after the Pakistan government introduced fuel-saving measures amid concerns over supplies due to the ongoing conflict in West Asia. The PSL opening ceremony, scheduled for Thursday night, was also cancelled for the same reason. The situation has extended beyond empty stands, with uncertainty now surrounding player and commentator participation, putting the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), led by Mohsin Naqvi, under pressure.Naqvi had earlier said the board is considering action against players who have exited the PSL for the IPL. “Yes, two to three players have also left. We are planning to take legal action on them,” he told reporters.Among those who switched leagues, Zimbabwe fast bowler Blessing Muzarabani joined Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) as a replacement for Bangladesh pacer Mustafizur Rahman. Muzarabani had earlier been signed by PSL’s Islamabad United as a replacement for West Indies pacer Shamar Joseph but opted to move to the IPL.Sri Lanka captain Dasun Shanaka is also set to join Rajasthan Royals as a replacement for the injured Sam Curran, after being part of Lahore Qalandars. Chennai Super Kings have signed Australian pacer Spencer Johnson as a replacement for Nathan Ellis. Johnson had previously signed with Quetta Gladiators for the PSL 2026 season. The movement is not limited to players. Former England cricketer Nick Knight, who was recently named in the PSL commentary panel, has now also been included in the IPL broadcast panel for Star Sports. IPL broadcaster Star Sports named Nick Knight as its commentator for English commentary in the IPL. However, there’s no confirmation on when he will join the IPL.

In a historic milestone, Virat Kohli became the first cricketer to feature in all 19 seasons of the Indian Premier League, achieving the feat during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s season-opening clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Saturday, March 28, 2026. The match was a perfect stage for Kohli to showcase his class. After SRH posted 201 for nine, stand-in skipper Ishan Kishan starred with 80 off 38 balls, supported by Heinrich Klaasen’s 31 in a 97-run fourth-wicket partnership. Jacob Duffy impressed early with figures of 3 for 22, exploiting the bounce on a pitch that hadn’t hosted top-flight cricket for nearly 10 months. Chasing 202, RCB’s response was led by Devdutt Padikkal and Kohli. Padikkal’s 26-ball 61 and Kohli’s unbeaten 69 off 38 balls powered a dominant six-wicket win, with the hosts reaching the target in just 15.4 overs. The duo stitched a 101-run partnership for the second wicket in 45 balls, entertaining the Chinnaswamy crowd with contrasting but equally effective styles — Padikkal with wristy, aggressive strokes, and Kohli with precision drives, flicks, and his trademark ‘swat’ shot. Padikkal raced to his fifty in just 21 balls, including 6, 4, 6 off David Payne and later a 4 and 6 off Harsh Dubey. Kohli, meanwhile, brought up his half-century in 33 balls, mixing classical drives with quick-fire boundaries. The only minor hiccups came with the dismissals of Padikkal, Rajat Patidar (31 off 12 balls), and Jitesh Sharma, but the chase was never in doubt. For SRH, Kishan’s blitz was the highlight. After early wickets reduced them to 29 for three, Kishan’s fearless strokeplay, including 8 fours and 5 sixes, kept SRH competitive. He fell to a stunning one-handed catch by Phil Salt near deep backward point, with Aniket Verma (43 off 19 balls) trying to accelerate in the final overs after being dropped by Kohli on 26. RCB’s dominant reply, under Kohli’s experienced guidance, set the tone for their IPL-2026 campaign while marking a remarkable personal milestone for the veteran batter.
