'Greatest force of change': On Women's Day, Rahul Gandhi shares video of interaction with girl students in Keralam - watch

NEW DELHI: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Sunday hailed women as the “greatest force for change” while extending his wishes on International Women’s Day.The Lok Sabha leader of opposition also shared a video capturing his conversation with young female students in Keralam.“The conversation with young students in Kerala was truly inspiring. Their confidence and determination to pursue their dreams show that women are the greatest force for change,” Gandhi, a former Lok Sabha MP from the state’s Wayanad seat, wrote in the post. The video showed Gandhi entering what appeared to be a school canteen and taking a seat at a table where several female students were gathered. One of the girls told him that, despite the number of women achievers India produces, she feels it is still “shameful” to be a woman in Indian society. He disagreed with her view and cited the example of legendary athlete PT Usha, who hails from Keralam.“What is wrong with running like a girl? What about PT Usha? She’s done pretty well. All this is happening because you are used to living in a male world, and already the male world is unfair to you. They’re making the rules. They’re saying what’s good and bad. You should make the rules. You should not be ashamed of being a woman,” the Congress’ former president said.He then recalled how in his own family, he was “outnumbered” by women, describing his grandmother, former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, as the “boss of the family.”“Women are generally more intelligent than men, for the most part. Men are in a hurry, and they get blinded by silly things. Women think longer term—they don’t apply direct power, they apply indirect power. That’s more effective,” he added.Gandhi then asked what each of them want to be in future. He got a variety of answers, including one student who wanted to pursue research in medical physics, which she chose because she couldn’t opt for MBBS.He also expressed his support for campus politics, saying people should have some sense of what politics is.One student asked what change Gandhi would like to see in India in the next 10 years and how it could be achieved. The Raebareli MP replied that he would want all young people in India to do what they want, and not what others want them to do.“The only real thing you should do is to discover your uniqueness,” he stated. The video ended with students and canteen staff taking pictures with the politician.

Failed Israeli mission to recover pilot’s remains leaves 41 dead in Lebanon

“The IDF will continue to operate relentlessly, day and night, out of a deep commitment to bringing all of Israel’s sons, the fallen and the missing, back home to Israel,” IDF said later. (Photo from X)

An Israeli special forces operation in eastern Lebanon aimed at locating the remains of missing Israeli airman Ron Arad left 41 people dead and 40 wounded, according to the Lebanese health ministry. The overnight operation targeted the town of Nabi Sheet in the Bekaa Valley and involved air strikes and ground clashes, leaving behind gutted buildings, torn-off roofs and scattered munitions around a large crater in the area.

Hezbollah Ambushes IDF Troops Airdropped To Retrieve Remains Of Soldier From Lebanese Town

“The sounds of the explosions were like something out of a movie,” resident Mohammed Mussa, 55, told Agence France-Presse during a media visit organised by the Iran-backed group Hezbollah. “We later realised there was a commando operation under way,” he said.Residents said the raid triggered clashes between Israeli troops and Hezbollah fighters in the area. The blasts were powerful enough to hurl a car onto the second floor of a nearby building, while several homes were heavily damaged.Lebanon’s health ministry said the strikes on Nabi Sheet and surrounding areas killed 41 people and injured 40 others.Israel’s military said it had issued evacuation warnings earlier on Friday, prompting residents to move children out of the town. “We prepared and evacuated the children from the town to protect them,” Nabi Sheet mayor Hani Moussawi said. The Israel Defense Forces confirmed on Saturday that it had carried out a special operation overnight in Lebanon in an attempt to locate Arad’s remains but failed to find any trace of the navigator, who has been missing since 1986.“The IDF will continue to operate relentlessly, day and night, out of a deep commitment to bringing all of Israel’s sons, the fallen and the missing, back home to Israel,” it said in a statement.Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu later said that although the mission did not succeed, Israel remained committed to finding all its missing servicemen.Arad was captured after ejecting from his aircraft over Lebanon in 1986, when his combat jet went down during a mission. He is widely presumed dead, but his remains have never been recovered.

PM Modi to inaugurate two new Delhi Metro corridors: Key routes and how they will help commuters

PM Modi to inaugurate two new Delhi Metro corridors: Key routes and how they will help commuters

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for major infrastructure projects in Delhi on Sunday, with a total investment of around Rs 33,500 crore. The projects include two new corridors of the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation, worth over Rs 18,300 crore, aimed at strengthening public transport across the national capital.CM Rekha Gupta said that the metro expansion is expected to make daily commuting smoother, cut traffic congestion and help tackle pollution in the capital. She further noted that the projects would also boost connectivity for residents of the National Capital Region, particularly commuters from Noida and Faridabad, by offering better access to Indira Gandhi International Airport. Here is a look at the projects:

Majlis Park–Maujpur Babarpur corridor (Pink Line)

Pink Line

PM Modi will inaugurate the Majlis Park to Maujpur-Babarpur stretch of the Pink Line, which spans around 12.3 kilometres and includes eight elevated stations. With the addition of this section, the Pink Line will extend to about 71.56 kilometres, making Delhi home to the country’s first fully operational Ring Metro. Stations along the corridor are Majlis Park, Burari, Jharoda Majra, Jagatpur-Wazirabad, Soorghat, Nanaksar-Sonia Vihar, Khajuri Khas, Bhajanpura, Yamuna Vihar and Maujpur-Babarpur.The project also includes the construction of a new bridge across the Yamuna River and a double-decker viaduct that will carry both a metro track and a road flyover.

Deepali Chowk–Majlis Park corridor (Magenta Line)

Magenta Line

The second section to be inaugurated is the Deepali Chowk to Majlis Park stretch of the Magenta Line, which is about 9.9 kilometres long. The new link will enhance connectivity for areas such as Madhuban Chowk, Haiderpur Badli Mor, Bhalaswa and Majlis Park, strengthening the overall transport network in northern parts of the city.Talking about the corridor, CM Rekha Gupta said, “These metro corridors are also significant achievements from an engineering perspective. A portion of the Deepali Chowk–Majlis Park corridor reaches a height of approximately 28.36 metres, making it one of the highest elevated sections in the Delhi Metro network.”

New metro corridors under Phase V-A

Alongside the inauguration of the two corridors, PM Modi will also lay the foundation stone for three new routes under Phase V-A of the Delhi Metro, covering a combined route length of around 16.10 kilometres. The proposed corridors include:

  • Central Vista Corridor connecting R.K. Ashram Marg to Indraprastha
  • Golden Line extension from Aerocity to Indira Gandhi Airport Terminal 1
  • Golden Line extension from Tughlakabad to Kalindi Kunj

Officials said that these new routes will improve connectivity to key locations across the capital and facilitate travel for commuters moving between Noida, South Delhi and the airport.

GPRA redevelopment projects

Before the programme, the PM will visit the GPRA Type-5 quarters at Sarojini Nagar and hand over keys to female allottees. He will also inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for projects worth Rs 15,200 crore under the General Pool Residential Accommodation (GPRA) Redevelopment Plan. The projects are being implemented at Sarojini Nagar, Netaji Nagar, Kasturba Nagar and Sriniwaspuri as part of a broader effort to modernise government housing colonies and develop improved infrastructure for government employees and administrative offices. The redevelopment is being carried out through a self-sustainable financial model under which a limited portion of the project area is being developed and monetised for commercial and residential use to finance the overall redevelopment.Once completed, the plan will provide more than 9,350 modern flats for government employees and create about 48 lakh square feet of office space, aimed at enhancing administrative efficiency while also generating monetisation potential.

'Give them all that is required': Daren Sammy shares another emotional post as West Indies remain stranded in India

NEW DELHI: West Indies head coach Daren Sammy has expressed frustration after the team’s return home from India was delayed following their exit from the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. The delay has been caused by international airspace restrictions in the Gulf region due to the ongoing Israel–Iran conflict, which has forced airlines to change several flight routes.

Can India erase bad memories in Ahmedabad with T20 World Cup title? Pressure will be key!

Sammy made his feelings clear on social media. In a short post on X, he wrote, “I just wanna go home.” Later, he also shared an emotional message on Instagram, saying, “Dear Lord. I put this situation in your hands and I pray that you bless everyone handling it. Give them all that is required to get us all safely to our destination sooner than later. These I ask in your precious name. Amen.”Cricket West Indies confirmed that the team’s travel plans had been postponed because of security concerns affecting flight routes in the Gulf region. In a statement, the board said, “These restrictions are a direct result of the security threats posed by military action in the Gulf Region, which has impacted several international flight routes and required airlines to adjust scheduled services for safety reasons.”The board also stressed that the safety of players, coaches, and staff remains the top priority and said it is working with the International Cricket Council, government authorities, and airlines to arrange the earliest safe journey home. The delay comes after West Indies were knocked out of the tournament in the Super Eights following a five-wicket defeat to India at Eden Gardens. Despite performing well in the group stage, the Caribbean side could not make the semi-finals.West Indies had posted 195/4 in their final match, but India chased the target comfortably, led by a brilliant unbeaten 97 from Sanju Samson.West Indies remain one of the most successful teams in T20 history, having won the T20 World Cup twice — in 2012 and 2016.
