India has begun process to take a leap from 5G to 6G: Scindia | India News

India has begun process to take a leap from 5G to 6G: Scindia

NEW DELHI: India has begun the process to make the leap from 5G to 6G, communication minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said on Thursday.“The process is being rolled out today with regard to global standards of technology, interoperability. That is being done at the International Telecommunications Union and 3GPP (3rd Generation Partnership Project), both standard-setting bodies for the world. We see the standards and the rollout happening only by 2030. So, we are still in ideation mode. But the difference is that India was nowhere on the table with regard to global standard setting for telecom on 3G or 4G. We made our first foray in 5G when we submitted a proposal for ubiquitous connectivity across the world,” he said. This time around, as far as 6G is concerned, “we are partners on that round table”, he said. “This is the first time in history of independent India that the country is on the standard-setting table for telecom tech that is being rolled out. We have set up Bharat 6G alliance in 2024, implementing the very early vision of PM Modi when even 5G had not fully rolled out in 2023 post Covid,” he added. The Bharat 6G alliance started with 14 members to start with and it has now grown to 85 members, he added.TNN

No shortage of oil and gas, won’t impose curbs: Govt | India News

'India Is An Oasis Of Energy Security': Govt Says No Fuel Shortage, Warns Against Misinformation

NEW DELHI: Govt on Thursday ruled out imposing restrictions on sale of petrol and diesel, asserting there was no shortage of oil and gas and that refiners were tying up additional imports.Calling India an “oasis of energy security” that supplies refined fuel to over 150 countries, govt said domestic petrol and diesel availability is structurally assured. “All one lakh-plus retail fuel outlets are open and dispensing fuel without interruption. Not a single outlet has been asked to ration supply,” it said, adding that two months of oil supplies and one month of LPG requirements are already available.

‘India Is An Oasis Of Energy Security’: Govt Says No Fuel Shortage, Warns Against Misinformation

“India’s petroleum and LPG supply situation is fully secure and under control. There is no shortage of petrol, diesel, or LPG anywhere in the country,” the petroleum ministry said. The clarification comes amid global steps to curb fuel use and speculation India could follow suit. Reports of shortages and rumours of a lockdown led to queues at filling stations, but the ministry said these were isolated incidents triggered by “deliberate misinformation”.Govt said alternative arrangements have been made to offset reliance on imports, particularly from West Asia. India imports nearly 90% of crude, 60% of LPG and over half of its natural gas. Against a reserve capacity of 74 days, actual availability is about 60 days.“Nearly two months of steady supply is available for every Indian citizen, regardless of what happens globally. The next two months of crude procurement have also been secured,” the ministry said, It added that oil companies have also increased credit to petrol pumps from one day to three days to prevent disruptions.India has diversified crude sourcing to 41 countries, with higher volumes from the western hemisphere compensating for any disruption in the Strait of Hormuz. Domestic LPG production has been ramped up 40% to 50,000 tonnes a day, meeting about 60% of demand, while 800,000 tonnes of inbound cargoes are en route. Over 50 lakh cylinders are being distributed daily.Govt said transforming LPG connections to PNG is part of a strategy to shift to cheaper fuel, and began before the current situation.

BMC to tap into waste water to generate ‘revenue stream’ | Mumbai News

Mumbai: In a move aimed at bringing about a sustainable solution while simultaneously raising a revenue stream for the city, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation has decided to make the best of its waste water. The civic standing committee on Wednesday gave nod to sell 3 million litres per day (MLD) of treated wastewater from its Colaba Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) at a concessional rate to private entities for construction and other purposes. This water is currently discharged into the sea due to lack of demand. The move proposes to sell the treated water at a concessional rate of Rs 15 per 1,000 liters to a self-help group, which will supply the water to L&T for the Orange Gate tunnel project, as well to a construction project and gardens. The move, however, is facing opposition from some standing committee members who recommend the civic body use treated water for its own purposes, such as cleaning tourist areas, fire brigade, watering gardens and bus depots. While the STP plant has a treatment capacity of 37 MLD, it has a facility to provide tertiary treatment to 10 MLD of sewage water. The cost of tertiary treatment is Rs 12 per kilolitre. The civic administration said three to four million litres is currently being discharged into the sea because of lack of demand, besides, non-potable water is being supplied by private parties in the city at a price between Rs 15-18. The treated water can be used for a variety of non-potable purposes, including construction, landscaping, gardens, as well as for cleaning purposes. The civic administration said selling treated water for non-potable use would generate revenue for the municipal corporation, thereby allowing for partial recovery of both the capital expenditure incurred for the Colaba STP and the recurring costs associated with operation and maintenance of the plant, besides, enabling conservation of fresh water.Shiv Sena (UBT) corporator Shailesh Phanse said the purpose should be to save drinking water and use treated water for purposes like road washing, besides supplying it to the fire brigade, bus depots and buildings for their fire fighting systems. MIM corporator Zameer Qureishi questioned the need to sell water to private firms and said that the civic body should use it for their own purposes. Currently, about 1 MLD of treated water is being supplied to the Indian Navy.

India among few engaging all sides in West Asia conflict, says Rijiju

NEW DELHI: India remains one of the few countries that is able to engage with all sides in West Asia conflict, parliamentary affairs minister Kiren Rijiju said on Thursday, defending govt’s diplomatic approach and rejecting opposition claims that India has become a bystander in the crisis.“If our ships are passing through the Strait of Hormuz and continue to move safely, that itself shows India’s position. Our PM has spoken to the US President, Israeli PM, Iranian President and leaders of Gulf countries. Very few leaders in the world can speak to all sides,” Rijiju said.

West Asia crisis: Congress again attacks government's foreign policy

NEW DELHI: Taking a swipe at Modi govt after its broker nation reference to Pakistan, Congress Thursday said “the self-styled Vishwaguru’s” diplomacy of bombast and narrative failures have turned a “broken country into a broker country”.Congress spokesman Jairam Ramesh said the EAM is doing his best to cover up India’s “extreme embarrassment” and the setback to its regional diplomacy from Pakistan’s emergence as a mediator of talks to end West Asia war.He called it “atrocious” that Pakistan is being considered for role of “peace maker” when its role in state-sponsored terrorism and hosting Bin Laden is well known, as is its role in nuclear proliferation. “…Fact remains that colossal failures in our diplomacy, outreach, and narrative management have made a broken country a broker country.” Ramesh said.

Dowry claims lives of thousands, do not give bail for such deaths mechanically: SC | India News

Dowry claims lives of thousands, do not give bail for such deaths mechanically: SC

NEW DELHI: The Supreme Court on Wednesday told high courts to be circumspect in exercising discretion to grant bail to the accused in dowry death cases, highlighting that the social evil continues to take the lives of thousands of women.Cancelling a Patna high court order granting bail to an accused husband, whose wife was murdered within one and a half years of marriage, allegedly because her parents could not meet dowry demands, a bench of Justices J B Pardiwala and Vijay Bishnoi expressed deep concern over the “seemingly mechanical approach being adopted by the high courts in granting bail in cases of dowry deaths.”Advocate Samir Ali Khan and Rajnish Kumar, appearing for Bihar govt and mother of the deceased woman, respectively, argued that Patna high court had erred by granting bail despite the accused having been in custody for just one and a half years. They said that high court had not assigned any special reason for granting relief to the man accused of a heinous offence. The court termed the high court order as ”wholly unsustainable” and said, “in a very serious crime like dowry death, the high court should have been very careful in exercising its discretion… The high court lost sight of many important aspects of the matter, more particularly the post-mortem report indicating number of injuries on the body of the deceased, and the presumption of commission of offence as provided under Section 114 of the Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam, 2023.”Having heard innumerable dowry harassment cases, many involving murder or suicide by the woman, in courts, the judges said, “Dowry deaths are indeed a profound disgrace and a major social evil representing a severe violation of human rights and dignity.“Despite the legal prohibitions, this practice continues to result in the unnatural deaths of thousands of women, often through murder or (as they are) driven to suicide because of greed-driven demands for money or valuables from the groom’s family. Dowry deaths are a severe blot on society,” the bench said. When the accused husband’s counsel Santosh Kumar Mishra argued that the deceased was of unsound mind and died by suicide by jumping from the sixth floor of an apartment building, the bench said the accused would have to prove this claim during trial. It said that as the trial is in progress, the high court should have rejected the bail plea. Setting aside the bail order, the bench directed the accused to surrender before jail authorities within a week.

‘Franchise has backed you’: Irfan Pathan challenges LSG star to step up in IPL 2026 | Cricket News

'Franchise has backed you': Irfan Pathan challenges LSG star to step up in IPL 2026
Lucknow Super Giants’s Mayank Yadav celebrates (PTI Photo/Shailendra Bhojak)

Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan has made it clear that IPL 2026 could be a defining season for Mayank Yadav, urging the young pacer to justify the faith shown in him by Lucknow Super Giants. Mayank burst onto the scene in IPL 2024 with raw pace, consistently clocking over 150 kmph, but injuries have stalled his progress since then. Despite his limited appearances, LSG retained him for ₹11 crore ahead of the 2025 mega auction, signalling strong backing. However, he featured in just two matches that season. Recently, he returned to action with two outings for India A during the T20 World Cup 2026 warm-ups and is now fully fit, working under bowling coach Bharat Arun ahead of the new IPL season.

Impact Player Rule: Game-changer or all-rounder killer?

Pathan pointed out that the franchise’s patience now needs to be rewarded. “Mayank Yadav has played six matches in two years, it is not enough. He is a retained player. He has to be available this year. If there is no place for him in the team, then that is a separate thing. The franchise has supported him. Mohsin Khan missed last year entirely, and even in the seasons before, he has not played all the games. But they have been backed; no other franchise does this. I have seen KKR and MI do it, but many franchises run out of patience after one or two seasons,” Pathan said on his YouTube channel. On the bowling front, Pathan feels LSG possess significant depth despite releasing Akash Deep. He highlighted the importance of Mohammed Shami, who is expected to lead the attack. “Their fast bowling is quite strong, they have a lot of options. Shami has played so much domestic cricket, he is in rhythm, and is experienced. Everyone knows that if there are seaming conditions, then you will get a bank of two overs with Shami. Last year, he had to bowl on flat wickets in Hyderabad. I think he will get much more help from the Lucknow pitch,” Pathan added. Shami will be supported by a strong Indian pace unit that includes Avesh Khan, Mayank Yadav, Mohsin Khan, Prince Yadav, Arjun Tendulkar, and Naman Tiwari. Pathan also reflected on LSG’s journey as a franchise, suggesting they are still trying to define their identity after four seasons. The team has moved on from early pillars like KL Rahul, Ravi Bishnoi, and Marcus Stoinis, while undergoing multiple changes in coaching staff and branding. “This is a team that is searching for its identity. If you look at the Mumbai Indians, you associate it with the great Sachin Tendulkar, Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah. Then you associate Chennai with MS Dhoni, and RCB with Virat Kohli. In comparison, Lucknow is quite a young team. It seemed that Gautam Gambhir’s stamp would be on this team for a long time. Gambhir has since left LSG, gone to KKR, and is now with the Indian team. This team has a lot of potential,” Pathan explained. The franchise, which made the playoffs in its first two seasons under Rahul before exiting in the Eliminator, has since struggled, finishing seventh in the last two editions.
