Nashik Astrologer Ashok Kharat Case: Palghar ‘godman’ booked for rape; complainant mustered courage after Nashik astrologer Ashok Kharat case | Thane News

PALGHAR: A self-styled godman from Maharashtra’s Palghar district has been booked for allegedly raping a 35-year-old woman after claiming to be an incarnation of Lord Shiva, an official said on Friday. The woman came forward to file a complaint against the 40-year-old accused following the recent arrest of former Merchant Navy officer and self-styled godman Ashok Kharat in Nashik, the official added.Police said the woman, a resident of Pune, first came into contact with the accused through Facebook in 2023.“In December of that year, the accused visited Pune to meet the woman. He allegedly deceived her by claiming he was an incarnation of Mahadev (Lord Shiva) and that she was his ‘Parvati’,” said the official, citing the FIR.The complainant alleged that the accused took her to a lodge in Pune’s Manjari area, where he administered a numbing substance before raping her. During the assault, he also allegedly took photographs of her without her knowledge. She told police that the accused, who runs a social organisation in Palghar district, later used these photographs to blackmail her. In May last year, he allegedly called her to a hotel in Vasai and attempted to sexually assault her again.Senior Inspector Hiralal Jadhav of Manikpur police station said the woman decided to come forward after the “Captain” Kharat case in Nashik gave her the courage to share her ordeal.Since the primary offence allegedly took place in Pune, Manikpur police registered a Zero FIR on Wednesday and subsequently transferred the case to Hadapsar police station in Pune for further investigation, he said.A Zero FIR is a first information report that can be filed at any police station in India, irrespective of where the crime occurred or which station has jurisdiction. The complainant has further alleged that the accused used a similar modus operandi to lure and sexually exploit several other women. Efforts are underway to apprehend him, the official added.(With agency inputs)

‘They asked for 7, I gave them 10’: Donald Trump reveals Iran’s ‘big present’ to US as Hormuz deadline delayed

'They asked for 7, I gave them 10': Donald Trump reveals Iran's 'big present' to US as Hormuz deadline delayed

US President Donald Trump on Thursday explained why he granted Iran a 10-day cooling-off period, describing it as a response to a “gift” from Tehran, allowing the passage of eight oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz, while pausing planned strikes on its high-value energy infrastructure. He also portrayed the move as a sign of progress in ongoing diplomatic efforts amid tensions in the Middle East.Speaking to Fox News, Trump said Iran had approached his administration seeking more time as part of continuing engagement between the two sides.

“They said to me very nicely, through my people, ‘Could we have more time?’ Because we’re talking about tomorrow night, which is pretty quick, and if they don’t do what they have to do, I will knock out their power plants,” Trump said.MAGA supremo added that the 10-day extension was granted after Iran allowed eight oil tankers to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, calling it a “present” during negotiations. “We talked about the eight ships, the present that I talked about the other day, but they asked for seven, and I gave them ten. And they were very thankful about that,” the US President said.Earlier in the day, Trump announced that the pause on strikes targeting Iran’s energy infrastructure would be extended by another 10 days, until Monday, April 6, 2026, as talks continue. In a post on Truth Social, he said the decision followed a request from the Iranian government and insisted that negotiations were progressing well.“As per Iranian Government request, please let this statement serve to represent that I am pausing the period of energy plant destruction by 10 Days to Monday, April 6, 2026, at 8pm, Eastern Time. Talks are ongoing and, despite erroneous statements to the contrary by the Fake News Media, and others, they are going very well,” the post read.Earlier this week, Trump had already ordered a temporary halt to military action. On Monday, he said he instructed the US Department of War to delay strikes on Iranian power plants and energy sites for five days, citing ongoing diplomatic engagement. In another Truth Social post, he described recent discussions as constructive and aimed at resolving hostilities. “I am pleased to report that the United States of America, and the country of Iran, have had, over the last two days, very good and productive conversations regarding a complete and total resolution of our hostilities in the Middle East,” he said.“Based on the tenor and tone of these in depth, detailed, and constructive conversations, which will continue throughout the week, I have instructed the Department of War to postpone any and all military strikes against Iranian power plants and energy Infrastructure for a five day period, subject to the success of the ongoing meetings and discussions. Thank you for your attention to this matter!” it added. Before that, Trump had issued a sharp warning to Tehran, giving it 48 hours to reopen the Strait of Hormuz or face military action. In an earlier Truth Social post, he said: “If Iran doesn’t FULLY OPEN, WITHOUT THREAT, the Strait of Hormuz, within 48 HOURS from this exact point in time, the United States of America will hit and obliterate their various POWER PLANTS, STARTING WITH THE BIGGEST ONE FIRST!”The latest extension, first from a 48-hour ultimatum to a five-day pause, and now an additional 10 days, highlights the shifting timelines as diplomacy continues alongside heightened tensions.

Gold, Silver Rate Today Live Updates: Gold, silver prices continue to climb after worst crash in over 40 years; what’s the outlook?

The weakening of the dollar made bullion, which is priced in the greenback, more affordable for investors using other currencies.

“For weeks, gold has been treated as a liquidity asset sold to cover volatility and margin calls elsewhere, but at current levels, it is now looking more like a value proposition for investors, which is why it’s back in favour today,” said Tim Waterer, chief market analyst at KCM Trade.

“However, hawkish central banks wary of persistent oil-driven inflation, continue to act as a heavy lid on gold’s ambitions to the upside, keeping any rally firmly in check.”

Govt cuts excise duty to Rs 3 a litre on petrol, to nil on diesel amid Middle East tensions

Government has revised its fuel duty structure, lowering the special additional excise duty on petrol to Rs 3 per litre while removing it entirely on diesel. The decision comes against the backdrop of ongoing disruptions in global oil supply chains due to the conflict in the Middle East, where Iran continues to tighten control over the Strait of Hormuz.According to a government order dated Thursday, “the additional excise duty on petrol was cut to Rs 3 per litre from Rs 13 per litre earlier. Meanwhile, the excise duty on diesel was cut to Rs 0 from Rs 10 per litre earlier.”

After the last revision back in April 2025, the excise duty on petrol stood at Rs 13 per litre, while for diesel it was Rs 10 per litre.Meanwhile in global markets, crude prices cooled on Friday after the United States indicated that negotiations with Iran were “going very well” and extended its deadline with the country by 10 days. The shift in sentiment saw both major benchmarks decline by around 2% in early trade.Brent crude, which had climbed as high as $108 per barrel, slipped to $105.75 per barrel, down 2.08%. Meanwhile, West Texas Intermediate (WTI) fell 1.94% to $92.67 as of 7:50 am IST. The pullback follows a sharp rally in the previous session, when Brent rose 4.8% to settle at $101.89 per barrel, as hopes of a return to normal operations in the Strait weakened. Prices remain well above the roughly $70 levels recorded before the conflict began, with the US benchmark also having risen 4.6% to $94.48 per barrel.Earlier on Thursday, Nayara Energy, India’s largest private fuel retailer, raised petrol prices by Rs 5 per litre and diesel by Rs 3 per litre amid rising input costs tied to the Middle East situation. The company, which operates 6,967 of the country’s 102,075 petrol pumps, has decided to pass on part of the increased costs to consumers, PTI sources said.

Prithvi Shaw targets India return with ‘200% effort’ ahead of IPL 2026

There was a time not too long ago when Prithvi Shaw looked like a certainty for India’s future. He burst onto the scene as a teenager, captained the Under-19 World Cup-winning side in 2018, and made his Test debut shortly after with a hundred on the very first day. But cricket, as it often does, had other plans. A string of injuries, inconsistency, fitness concerns, and a long stretch away from the national side slowly pushed him to the margins. His last appearance for India came back in July 2021, and since then, the wait has only grown longer.

Now, with IPL 2026 just around the corner, Shaw is using every opportunity to make a statement. Signed by Delhi Capitals for ₹75 lakh in the accelerated phase of the auction after going unsold initially he is not taking this second chance lightly. If anything, it seems to have lit a fire under him.

Prithvi Shaw opens up on the 200% mindset

Shaw has been open about the shift in his preparation and the effort he is putting in to make a comeback to the Indian team and achieve that goal. He admitted he is working “three times harder” and feels he is giving more than his full capacity, while also acknowledging the ups and downs in his career with maturity. Shaw emphasized that he has learned from past mistakes and believes consistent hard work, discipline, and staying positive are the only ways to make a strong comeback.

“I think that’s why I’m playing. There’s no doubt that I have to come back to the Indian team. That’s why I’m working very hard. The amount of hard work I used to put in, I put in three times more today”, Shaw said during an interaction with PTI.

“Actually, I don’t like to talk about it, but I feel that I’m giving not 100%, but 200% to come back to the Indian team, to win this trophy or to give 100% on a match day or on a practice day as well.”

“Whatever ups and downs happened in the last few years, I took it all with a lot of respect and a smile. And obviously, it stays in my mind when I’ll be back. But there’s only one way to do it work hard and give your 100%. If you’ve made some mistakes, learn from them,” he added.

His domestic numbers in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025–26 also support this, as he recorded a strike rate of over 160 in the tournament.

Where does he fit at Delhi Capitals?

Even with all this motivation, Shaw’s path at Delhi Capitals is not without its complications. Captain Axar Patel has indicated that KL Rahul is likely to open for the side, which leaves Shaw’s exact role a little unclear. There are overseas options being considered too, and with Ben Duckett having pulled out, the team’s top-order puzzle has a few moving pieces.

But Shaw has taken a mature view of the situation.

“I haven’t thought about it actually. If KL (Rahul) is opening and with whosoever is opening with him should have a great season. I won’t say that I should open. Whoever opens, should win us the match. Obviously, there is competition. Cricket is such a thing that whether you play Ranji Trophy, IPL, India, or India A, there will be competition. Today, there are 10 openers as you can see. So there will be competition,” Shaw said.

Delhi Capitals are set to begin their IPL 2026 campaign on April 1 against Lucknow Super Giants, and whether Shaw is in the playing XI from the first game or not, what is clear is that he is showing up as a genuinely transformed cricketer, one who has gone through the fire and come out more determined than before.

The IPL has always been a stage where careers are resurrected and reputations rebuilt. For Shaw, this season is exactly that a chance to remind everyone, including the Indian selectors, what they have been missing.

Rupee Record Low: Rupee hits record low past Rs 94 per US dollar amid Iran war

Rupee hits record low past Rs 94 per US dollar amid Iran war

Rupee extended its losing streak on Friday, tumbling 28 paisa in early trade, to hit a fresh record low of 94.24 against the US dollar. This comes after the currency fell sharply in the last session on Wednesday, when it slipped 29 paise to breach the 94 par US dollar mark to hit 94.05 amid the ongoing Middle East tensions. This fall comes as the currency is dragged down by persistent foreign institutional investor outflows, along with Iran crisis that continue to weigh down sentiment. In Wednesday’s trade, rupee began the session at 93.94 against the US dollar in the interbank foreign exchange market and moved between 93.86 and 94.08 before settling at its lowest-ever closing level. This followed Tuesday’s decline, when the currency had already weakened by 23 paise to finish at 93.76. Traders pointed out that supportive cues, including a fall in global crude oil prices, a softer US dollar, and strength in domestic equities, did little to support rupee’s fall.Anil Kumar Bhansali, head of treasury and executive director, Finrex Treasury Advisors LLP, said, “we expect the RBI to protect the level of 94 in the current financial year and possibly take it down to 93.30 to 92.80.” The expert further added that the currency is likely to trade in the range of 93.25-94.25.The downward momentum was reflected in Dalal Street as well with Nifty50 opening below 23,100, while BSE Sensex shed over 800 points. Around 9:16 AM, Nifty50 plunged to 23,045.55, down 261 points or 1.12%. BSE Sensex was at 74,438.18, down 835 points or 1%. In the commodities market, global oil prices softened after the US indicated that negotiations with Iran were “going very well” and extended its deadline with Tehran by 10 days. Both key benchmarks declined around 2%. Brent crude, which had earlier climbed to $108 per barrel, eased to $105.75, marking a 2.08% drop. Meanwhile, West Texas Intermediate (WTI) fell 1.94% to $92.67 as of 7:50 am IST.

PBKS SWOT: Allrounder-heavy Punjab Kings face middle-order concern | Cricket News

PBKS SWOT: Allrounder-heavy Punjab Kings face middle-order concern
File Pic: Punjab Kings players (ANI Photo)

Punjab Kings (PBKS), the last season’s runners-up, have built a high-ceiling, high variance squad, stacked with allrounders. They, however, have a noticeable gap in the middle-order that could potentially upend their balance and expose vulnerabilities in high scoring games. Under captain Shreyas Iyer, they will be eyeing their maiden IPL crown.Strengths: With Marcus Stonis, Azmatullah Omarzai and Marco Jansen, PBSK can stretch their batting till No.8 without sacrificing their bowling options. In Arshdeep Singh and Marco Jansen, they possess two world-class left-arm seamers who can be summoned at any time of the game. The squad has a strong core of Indians, including Iyer, Arshdeep, Yuzvendra Chahal and Prabhsimran Singh.Weaknesses: Punjab lack an established high-scoring domestic opener, which could put the onus on their captain to do bulk of the scoring at the top of the order. Lockie Ferguson brings raw pace, but he has the propensity to be erratic. Ageing stars like Stoinis and Chahal’s impact remains intact, but their sustainability across a long tournament like the IPL remains a question.Opportunities: Young batters like Priyansh Arya can redefine Punjab’s starts in the Powerplay with players Musheer Khan and Suryansh Shegde could become the X-factors.Threats: PBKS’s over-dependence on Iyer or Arshdeep could prove to be their undoing. If either of the two have lean patches, their progression to the knockouts would appear uncertain. Overall, they have a team replete with options but yet to nail down their first-choice playing XI.

Stock market today (March 27, 2026): Nifty50 opens below 23,100; BSE Sensex down over 800 points as US-Iran war, oil prices weigh on sentiment
Stock market today (AI image)

Stock market today: Nifty50 and BSE Sensex dropped in opening trade on Friday as US-Iran war tensions and crude oil prices continued to weight on sentiment. While Nifty50 went below 23,100, BSE Sensex was down over 800 points. At 9:16 AM, Nifty50 was trading at 23,045.55, down 261 points or 1.12%. BSE Sensex was at 74,438.18, down 835 points or 1%.Dr. VK Vijayakumar, Chief Investment Strategist, Geojit Investments Limited says, “The on and off reaction of the market to news and events regarding the war is likely to continue in the near-term. The spike in Brent crude back to around $108 level will again trigger another round of risk-off in the Indian market. The market correction since the war began has brought down Nifty valuations to fair levels. Nifty is now trading at about 19 times, which is lower than the last 10-year average of 22.4 times. But if India’s macros take a hit due to this energy crisis, valuations may again decline factoring-in the feared hit to earnings growth in FY27.”“The Indian economy is strong enough to absorb the shock if the war ends, crude cools down and gas availability becomes normal. But if the war prolongs, crude remains elevated for months together, and gas availability constraints continue, the stress on India’s macros will be significant and the market will discount that. In brief, everything boils down to how long the war will last. The market hope is that since a prolonged war is in nobody’s interests, it may end soon. The US itself is now looking for an exit strategy. Market corrections and rising retail price of petroleum products may exert pressure on the US regime to cool down the conflict.”Global cues remained weak. US markets declined sharply, with the Nasdaq Composite dropping more than 2% to enter correction territory, while the S&P 500 and the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell over 1% each. Investors moved towards safer assets amid concerns over a potential escalation in the US-Israeli conflict with Iran, which has driven oil prices higher and intensified inflation worries. The weakness in Wall Street spilled over to Asian markets, with traders remaining cautious even after Donald Trump once again extended the deadline for Iran to reach an agreement. Crude oil prices, however, edged lower. On the domestic front, foreign institutional investors were net sellers on Wednesday, offloading equities worth Rs 1,805.37 crore. In contrast, domestic institutional investors remained net buyers, purchasing shares worth Rs 5,429.78 crore.(Disclaimer: Recommendations and views on the stock market, other asset classes or personal finance management tips given by experts are their own.
